Guest Reviews

- federico (10/5): -

- Mohammed (10/5): -
- Tal (10/5): -
- Karin (9/5): Great place to stay in a beautiful mountain location - Beautiful location and great views from the room. Cabins felt luxurious and were clean. Beds were comfortable with warm covers and extra blankets in the closet. Breakfast was really good and restaurant overlooking the mountains.
Friendly staff.

- Kathleen (9/5): - Very friendly front desk staff. Restaurant on site was convenient and offered menu with nice selections. On edge of a national park so wildlife sightings were great, particularly birds.
- Carol (8/5): Good accommodation - The actual lodgings were very good. Lots of space, lovely verandah, parking. Staff were very helpful and gave us ice each day. Breakfast was really good, I recommend the pancakes. We only ate evening meal once, mine was good but my husbands burger and fries were not hot. I was surprised at the lack of hikes which was our main reason for being in the area. Also, despite sugar feeders galore the bird activity was not what I expected.
- Kerry (10/5): Great rural lodge with hummingbirds and rainbows. - Excellent restaurant, some of the best food we ate in Costa Rica. Lodges are in a very quiet location. Loved the views, the hummingbirds and the rainbows over the valley.
Staff were very helpful, arranged birdwatching and quetzal tours. Nothing.

- Stephens (10/5): - Wonderful setting, friendly staff, beautiful lodge, dining room and exquisitely prepared food.
- Karen (7/5): Great lodges and food - The room was comfortable and the breakfast was lovely The shower was cold and didn't warm up even though my friend had got it hot the night before, the next morning we couldn't get it to go warm even leaving it to run for 5 minutes. We had to leave for a tour so didn't say anything.
- Sue (9/5): Lovely location and lovely food. - Good choice at breakfast. Overall the food was good quality. The scenery was lovely and the balcony was nice. There was a nice hot shower and plenty of spare blankets. The room was cold and there was nowhere to hang clothes.
- Jeannette (10/5): Excelente - El lugar es súper
- Marlon (10/5): Extraordinaria - Tranquilidad /limpieza y servicio personalizado

Gute Matratzen. Bungalows mit 2 Wohneinheiten sind recht hellhörig. Frühstücksportionen könnten größer sein.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Rianne. D (9/5): - erg goed restaurant.
mooi uitzicht
- Sylvana (10/5): - If you need to decompress from the business of big city, please come here. You will be relaxed . The surroundings is so beautiful
- Lisa (8/5): Very good - This place is great to have a chilled out time and get out of the city to be in nature for a while. The restaurant could have more options of food and be careful with the salt.
The stones to go up to the cabins are slippery.
The trail should be worked on to make it more attractive.

- Maria (9/5): Superb - Location was great, surrounded by mountains The balcony was not very secure for little kids.
- Keri (10/5): - From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel right at home at this beautiful ecolodge! Our family of 4 spent three nights at the Toucanet, and it was an incredible experience. From the charming reception, to the delicious made to order breakfast, to the stunning surrounding grounds, it was everything we could have hoped for. We wanted to be immersed in the cloud forest experience, and with the help of our Toucanet concierge, Michael, we were able to book an intimate and extraordinary tour of a local coffee plantation as well as a guided bird seeking expedition. We didn’t glimpse the elusive quetzal, but we gained a ton of knowledge about the region and toured the beautiful highlands of Copey. This is a true ecolodge with few frills in the cabins, but they are immaculately kept, the grounds are lovely (with a creek running through), and the view from our large balcony overlooking the valley made morning coffee taste all the better. Thanks, Toucanet Lodge, for an unforgettable stay! We will be back!
- Bud (9/5): I would come back again for sure. - This is a really nice lodge with simple rooms and a really good breakfast. Staff was exceptionally good as was the dinner and dessert menu. The shower was very comfortable with nice warm water available on very cool mornings. Just a bit more comfort in the room. For example, there was a very small mat or rug inside the door of the room on which to wipe your feet. However it was on a varnished wood floor and one could easily slip on it and fall hard. It would have been nice to have another at the side of the bed so that when you get up you are not on hardwood floors with bare feet.
- John (9/5): Very excellent lodge and staff, highly recomment to family & friends. - Beautiful location in the mountains of Copey. Quiet and peaceful. Great views. Rustic atmosphere. Staff that we met, Michael & the chef were great. Nice hiking trail up the mountain. Stream with the soothing sounds of flowing water. A few very minor issues just to bring to management. Shower head flow was good but in a compact flow due to calcification of head instead of more of a spray pattern. The only other issue is the rug in entry, the wood floors are beautifully finished, but the rug can easily slip out from under you if your not paying attention. I would recommend a non-slip backing to any rugs used on the wood floors to prevent potential guest falls. I only mention this because I worked in product safety for 25 years.
- Rony (8/5): - The reception person was kind and friendly.
The place was clean. Breakfast was good. We went hiking in the property and it had a beautiful view of the mountains.
Overall good experience
- Chloe (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous place to stay, a comfortable lodge in the middle of nature. The staff were so friendly. The food was good!
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutelly nice, perfect place to stay a little out of the beaten tracks, but in full comfort and perfect service. Nothing
- Elena (8/5): Very good - Add print rules, wifi password and restaurant schedulle will be nice to have, also we would like cofffe in the rooms or availability im early morning since restaurant opens 7 am No coffee availability
- Jim (7/5): Good -
- Rodrigo (8/5): Very good - Great location. Food very good. Rooms.could be improved Rooms.too simple
- Raul (8/5): Very good - The balcony view was awesome! Bed is too hard
- Esteat (7/5): Good - The silence and peace around the hotel and rooms. The sounds of nature.
- Susan (10/5): - This is a beautiful place to stay. The restaurant is excellent and the owner wonderful. Gorgeous scenery and great bird watching. Loved it.
- Marilyn (10/5): A delightful, quiet, well appointed hotel in the mountains. Well worth the drive. - El Toucanet is a delightful small hotel in the mountains with rustic cottages and a spacious, beautiful restaurant overlooking a garden. Moises, at the desk, was a gracious and caring host, as was the kitchen staff. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Navigation is a must, as the hotel is about 30 minutes from the Pan American Hwy (Hwy 2) - absolutely worth the effort to get there. The sunny morning at breakfast with windows open and many species of hummingbirds feeding was most memorable.
- Eifiona (9/5): Beautiful cabins and terrific food - Lovely cabins set on a hillside overlooking a valley and farms on the opposite side. Our cabin had its own bathroom plus a king-sized bed, mini-fridge, coffeemaker (BYO coffee) and wood fireplace. But the best feature is the exceptional food in the restaurant. Do not miss the baked trout. There is one hiking trail on the property, and we took a long walk on a mostly-unpaved road up to a magnificent vista point, but there is not a lot else to do right there. That is not a criticism of the hotel itself.
- Lori (8/5): Very good - Beautiful setting and property. Excellent views. Clean comfortable room. The breakfasts were excellent but our party had some uneven experience with the suppers.
- Simpson (9/5): Superb -
- Leandro (8/5): Very good -
- Miele (4/5): - Good place to enjoy birdwatching as well as jut relaxing. A good place to get out of the warm weather.
PROS: Very quiet and cool weather. Love the stream that runs under the little bridges. The breakfast was good. Many extra blankets available in the room. Restaurant looks new.
CONS: American Express not accepted. Had to booked on Expedia due to this. Had to book a different room online, family room for 6p with fireplace, because that was they only one that would come up as available, reception told us to book it online, but they would still give us a smaller standard room for 3p. The price was cheaper for a bigger room online than if you paid in person for the standard room.
The price is pretty high for what you receive. Simple bedroom with a bathroom that needs urgent remodeling. The bathroom looks so outdated, you can even see the pipes under the sink... Some lights did not work in the room, the cheap white bulbs really kill the nature ambiance.
At check in they said the restaurants closed at 8pm, but when we went to eat around 7:15pm, the restaurant was already closed, they said they closed it at 6:30 because no one had come to eat. So we were forced to skip dinner. there is nothing around, so you have NO other options. Keep in mind this was in high season (January) on a Saturday night.
Very basic hotel room $130 USD for 1 night... Price is too high for what you get.
No discount for CR residents
- Evan (9/5): One of the most atmospheric places we've stayed. - The staff are wonderful and helpful in every way possible. The lodges are so atmospheric, with stars galore at night and wood fires if the weather gets damp. The hummingbird garden by the stunning restaurant vista is bliss. The best thing I can say is that my wife and I both felt slightly bereft when we came to depart. Wonderful homely and peaceful place to stay and from the owner to every single staff we were made to feel warmly welcomed. Also, they helped us organise a quetzal tour which delivered us many of those beautiful birds. Not much. The restaurant menu could have had a few more vegetarian options for dinner but it did have some and this was not an issue at breakfast so it's up to you if you want some variety to eat elsewhere for a night or two. We stayed for 4 nights which I think is more than most so likely something unnoticeable. Also the chef kindly cooked up a tomato soup on request so no complaints. The hot tub seemed a bit erratic, not sure if we worked it out properly or it's faulty but a hot bath was just as good anyway. Really nothing to detract from a fabulous stay but hopefully this feedback is helpful.
- Tamara (8/5): Very good - The restaurant is very atractice and cozy and the food is good, We also recieved good service from the waitress. The trail was not spectacular.
- Erick (8/5): Very good -
- Gwendolyn (9/5): We loved the cool weather after spending time at the humid-hot southern CR coast. - The lodge is a place to sit back, relax, and watch watch humming birds go about their business.
