- Matt (9/5): - Great location just a 2min walk to the entrance to Red desert walks, and 2mins to an observatory.
The family running it were lovely and friendly, they will cook you breakfast, lunch and dinner (at a price of course), and sell water, beer etc.
The room is basic and fine - had a queen and a single bed plus toilet. The shower didn't have a head that was fine, still did the job, and the water is cold which was perfect as it was 35 degrees when I was there.
Nice to walk around the grounds at sunset - good views and lots of birds.
Looked like they rented bikes to explore the desert if you like, thought we didn't use them as we organised a tuktuk from Villavieja to take us to the accommodation for 30,000, and an additional 70,000 to take us to the Grey desert and back.
Great value place! Fans only operate between 8pm and 7am. Not too much of an issue and totally understandable to keep energy costs down
- Anna (9/5): Superb - We stayed for one night during our trip to the Tatacoa Desert. The location is amazing — the tuk-tuk driver to Villavieja knows the address, and from the hotel, it's easy to walk to the observatory or the trekking trails in the Red Desert.
The owners are very friendly and helpful. The property is quiet and cozy, with many rooms. We stayed next to the fence with a view of the fields at sunset. The room had a shower, toilet, and a fan. Fan works from 8 pm until around 7 am. Room is very simple. Outside there is table and chare.
Since there’s no electricity in the desert, the owners use solar panels. You can charge your phone during the day in the common area, where the owners are and breakfast is served. The breakfast was 10,000 COP and included coffee and an omelet — very tasty.
The tuk-tuk ride to and from Villavieja cost 25,000 COP for two people. On the way back we took ride direct to ferry. nothing
- Leonie (9/5): Superb - Everything great, but be aware of restaurant opening times. Bring your own snacks. Lovely staff and very clean. Good value for the price. Would recommend.
- Doron (8/5): Good value for money located in amazing place - Located in amazing place with very nice staff.
As you are in the desert expect for wildlife, even in the room 😅
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional - This was such a sweet place to stay. It’s run by a lovely family who helped us with everything we needed. You walk out and you’re at the red desert and a short walk from the observatory. It was perfect for us.
- Jana (9/5): Superb - The perfect place. Close to the red dessert. Good food, clean and nice staff. Good atmosphere. You cannot charge your phone in the room. I charged my phone the next day in the common area.
- Flora (9/5): lovely stay! - Breakfast was great, filling and tasty! Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Dinner was also great. The room did get very hot during the night even with the fan.
- Rutovitzzz (8/5): Very good -
- Mariolog (8/5): Great place for a great price at a great location - The place is located right in the desert. You can get stunning sunset and sunrise views by just going outside or crossing the street for a panoramic landscape view of the red desert.
You'll wake up listening to birds and you can also enjoy their presence by sitting on your private chairs and table just outside your room. Birds like vultures, chachalacas, parrots, parakeets, vermillion flycatchers and caracaras among many more.
They don't have an open kitchen but they offer meals and drinks until 19:00h (or 16h, I don't quite remember) at a reasonable price (from 15k to 30k).
It wasn't clear weather you could drink water from the tap but we saw a family member drinking directly from their well. Anyway, we brought 8L from Villavieja.
They gave us some advises and tips when we got there based on what we wanted to do.
We got a ride from Villavieja on 2 motorbikes for 15k after negotiating with some locals. The only furniture in the room is just a little table so almost all you have will be on the floor.
No hooks on the walls for neither your clothes or your towels after your shower.
No mosquito net on the window or the bed, but fortunately we had our own, and there are mosquitoes.
The mattress was quite uncomfortable.
- Marie-louise (5/5): Basic accommodation in great location - Great location, directly next to the Tatacoa desert and the walking tour through it. It is much outside of town. You need to take either a TukTuk (30.000 one way) or Mototaxi (10.000 one way). No card payment, cash only. Very basic accommodation, no mosquito net, fan couldn’t be adjusted and therefore blew in the wrong direction. No electricity in the rooms, charging only between 6 PM - 22 PM in the common area. The basic food (also breakfast) not included in the price. No water refill station, only bottled water (4000).
- Alicia (7/5): Good - Location, private room, quiet space, good food Renting bikes was kind of expensive for the quality, communicating with the staff was not always easy, hot drinks were way to sweet
- Gabriela (7/5): Great location, good for one night. - Great location, right by the Red Desert and the observatory. Had the bare necessities for a one night stay. No electricity in rooms. A little expensive as for the facilities but location great.
- Milan (7/5): Good -
