Guest Reviews
- De chezelles (8/5): - Charming place with a great location, good value for money A bit noisy inside the rooms, too much light from the corridors and common area
- Tony (9/5): -

A atendente Camila é atenciosa.
- Monika (1/5): Check your beds - a cat pissed in mine - My stay here was very disappointing. I woke up in the middle of the night to a strong, foul odor. When I checks, I realized that my pillow and bed sheets all smelt like old cat piss. It was disgusting, and I couldn’t sleep for the rest of the night.
When I raised my concerns with the hotel staff I was told “Well cats live here and this can happen” and “you should have told u” well unfortunately, the only contact method provided was through messaging on Booking.com, and I realistically didn’t expect a response at 1AM… especially considering it took 10 minutes just to get someone to answer the door when I arrived earlier that day to check in. Even if someone did answer I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect a guest to be changing bed sheets in the middle of the night due to uncleanliness.
I love animals and I love cats but if a hotel chooses to feature cats on the property, there should be strict policies in place to ensure they do not enter guest rooms. I think that was one of the worst sleeps I’ve ever experienced.

- Marcantonio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karon (10/5): Beautiful art and decorations in the house. The rooms are nice and spacious. - Excellent location. Friendly staff. The art and decorations in the house are beautiful.
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vanita (7/5): Great location. - Central location in the old town. John, the owner and his business partner were very helpful and available during my stay. The very high ceiling in my room with a small window that rattled during the night due to the wind. It sounded like someone is knocking on the wall and I had a hard time getting used to it.
The sewage smell in the bathroom. It was very clean with air freshener available but the smell was still noticeable. To be fair, it is a very old house.
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sabrina (4/5): Disappointing - The place is a old villa in a central location with a lot of art and cats. The room I got was not the one I booked and did not match the pictures. There were no proper walls but windows two two sides of the room just partly covered with curtains that did not block the light from outside. The door did not shut properly so that a gap remained open which did not make me feel safe. Also I could hear everything from outside because there was no sound blockage at all. The common area, especiall the kitchen, was not very clean. I left early and stayed somewhere else.
- Thomas (9/5): Superb - Like being at home. Clean and comfortable bed and room. Air conditioning. Well equipped kitchen. Nice smoking porch. Very nice people.
- Helen (9/5): Superb - We had at a great stay at El Secreto Casa. The tenants are lovely and it has the living of living as a part of community. And Jhon is a great host. The shared bathroom is always clean. The cats are lovely, Zeus is especially such a sweetheart. Chilling at the Patio is comfy. Refrigerator is in a good condition (not like the most hostels). The location is convinient. All in all, the vibe is good! It is a relatively old house, so once it rains heavily one would experien see stuff from it which needed to be paid more attention to.
- Bg18 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angelo (8/5): Nice place! - Location is great - near lots of shops and restaurants (but quieter street) and next to a park. The house is gorgeous - the host and the art are very inviting! The house isn't accessible if you need to up stairs. I didn't know there would be cats roaming the house. The air conditioner in the room I stayed in leaked as well. My biggest complaint is that the listing didn't state I need to pay in cash - while there is a bank around the corner, it was annoying
- Catherine (7/5): Good -
- Marvin (8/5): Very good -
- Pavan (7/5): A beautiful place for a visit. - Eclectic, artsy looking shared living room space with a very high greenhouse ceiling open to the outside air. The owner is an artist among other things and works on fixing up this living space himself. He is down to earth, approachable, friendly, and passionate so easy to appreciate his effort! The room itself was clean, good a/c, and quiet. The common area, while very pretty, is not very comfortable to sit in due to the seating, bugs, and sometimes raindrops (if it was raining). The kitchen feels a bit tight for space and lighting and is separated from the outside by a tin roof an curtain to the patio. The shared male washroom is quite tight for space. Still a fantastic value to stay here!
- Massimo (8/5): Very good - Big room and amazing location between art and artworks and pictures. Perfect because in the center
- Gaia (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly stuff, cozy common places, clean bathrooms, great location
- Capelle (6/5): Pleasant -
- Harald (8/5): Very good - It is an old house that has a nice atmosphere with all the art in it.
The owner was very helpful with any advice we asked for. It is an old house some of the facilities would need a bit of renovation.
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional -
- Baciu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (9/5): Unique stay at a central location - Great location, great vibe, lovely artworks, cute cats and super friendly staff My room had no windows and there’s nothing to do in the neighbourhood in the evening
- Mohammad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brumel (9/5): Superb -
- Elena (8/5): Cosy but cold. - Amazing and beautiful building. Artsy. John was super friendly and helpful with recommendations. A very relaxing, jazzy vibe. Nice hot shower. I dont think we were prepared for how cold it was, there was no heater in the room and its an old building so the nights got very cold even with all the blankets. Also, the mattress on one of our twin beds was at the end of its life and sloped strongly towards the wall so wasnt that comfy. BUT i do think this would be a great hostel in summer.
- Weliton (8/5): Very good - Localization and Staff hygiene
- Pooveneswary (8/5): Good for the value!! - The hotel is very comfy and full of Arles. The owners , couple who are artist presented the house with the arts drawing and sculpture. Friendly and helpful owners. The room comfy and bed is comfortable. The bathroom can have some makeovers, the shower is very poor pressure and needs regular cleaning.
- Branko (10/5): Awesome experience - This was not an accomindation for us, but additional lovely experience to visiting Montevideo. Owners are young artists renovating a culutural heritage house in the old town. You can feel here history melting with their new energy with sesinble artistic approach. They will welcome you as friends in their house and you can feel it is sincere. We had fabulous time together, we will recommend the place to all friends without a doubt and would love to meet them again. Nada
