Guest Reviews
- Tereza (10/5): Super nice! - Such a lovely stay! The owner was super kind, even though we booked it in kind of a hurry. Super tidy, amazing views of farm animals and the breakfast was awesome, everything stacked neatly in the room!
- Sasha (10/5): Wonderful - Kate and Jake friendly and down to earth! A real kiwi couple. Frank the dog wants food and hugs! Belie Archie and Billy are adorable and a gift from god.
- Lorraine (7/5): - The peace of staying amongst nature The outdoor shower and toilet.
- Will (9/5): Overall very very good, Jake and Kate were very accommodating and the cabin was very lovely. - Location and simplicity Abit cold, was afraid to use the heat pump, did not want to be charged extra
- Julie (4/5): Tolerable. Not value for money. - Not much. Yes it was cute having animals close by and view into valley nice but cabin stuck behind shed with OUT DOOR bathroom. The problem with is was the toilet got very wet when showering. Only a plastic curtain for privacy which was not our issue, it was the wet toilet. It would be very cold in winter, Chilly when we stayed. Not value for money. Room small with lots of rules. The toilet getting soaked when showering. Had to use public toilets in town. Room very compact and host has lots of rules , which is fair but not welcoming.
- Linda (6/5): - Peaceful location. I think information about the bathroom setup needs to be highlighted.
Would be very fresh out there in winter.
- Barbour (7/5): Good very quiet - Just cereal left for me it was okay The outdoor shower and toilet a surprise and could be cold especially in night.
- Luke (8/5): This place was calm, quiet, and peaceful! The view was amazing - Our host Jake was friendly, welcoming and helpful! The cabin is located in a beautiful area with a decent view! You’re allowed to pat all the sheep and goats which was super cool!
The outside shower and toilet area is wicked! Such a cool experience The bed was uncomfortable, large human sized dents in the bed which made it extremely uncomfortable.
No microwave.
- Marni (10/5): - Thus was our second stay with Kate and Jake and definitely won't be the last!
Absolutely love the peace and tranquility here. So relaxing! Frank and the farm animals are a super cool bonus too. We will definitely be back! Nothing to not like here.
- wendy (8/5): - Liked being out in the country side, the cabin was suitably presented
- Linda (9/5): Cute, comfortable cabin in good location - Clean, comfortable, private cabin with Continental breakfast in a good location. Friendly hosts. Outdoor bathroom with a funky smell from the shower.

- Susan (10/5): Heartland New Zealand - Natural surroundings and the birdsong Outdoor sensor light not working
- Esther (9/5): Just beautiful and peaceful. - This is a beautiful and quirky property in the countryside! It was perfect for my situation! You’d need a car though.
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful place in the hills, with great views and fresh air - Location, views and friendly host N/a
- sandra (10/5): - Perfect for an overnight stay, lovely hosts, very welcoming and the cabin had everything we needed, beautiful place in the countryside and very close to Whangarei as well - thanks Kate and Jake
- Johannes (10/5): - Einzigartig schönes Zimmer mit überdachtem Freiluftbad. Alles was man benötigt wird bereitgestellt.
Sehr netter Gastgeber, der sich gerne Zeit nimmt zum plaudern oder Fragen beantwortet.
Noch zu erwähnen sind der tolle Blick und der Gesang der Vögel. Es gibt nichts negatives.
- Houston (9/5): The only thing we regret was not booking another day to go out during the daytime! - The location
- Kurt (10/5): - Fantastic host and a lovely spot!
- Charlotte (10/5): Beautiful quiet little getaway spot - Beautiful little get away spot, close to town but it feels like your in your own little world, I wish we could of stayed longer!
- Beverley (9/5): Would have liked to have stsyed longer - Beautiful Location
Peace and quiet
Lovely breakfast Maybe a cloth/teatowel to wipe up any spills
- Roy (10/5): - Returning travelers, it is our go-to bucolic spot to recover from jet lag. Our old friend Wilson the cat has moved on, but the hosts are still warm and inviting. An outdoor shower with great water pressure is a great way to feel refreshed.
- Rupin (10/5): -
- Zane (10/5): - Cute setup, nice views. No GST receipt available
- Karen (10/5): Awesome! - Cute having the animals at our back door. Hosts were great!
- Elliott (10/5): - The setting was beautiful and the cabin was so cosy and peaceful. Jake and Kate were super friendly and the farm animals were great to see so happy! Would recommend to anyone and would definitely come back if was in NZ! Very minor point: instructions to get there were quite long - ended up getting muddled and ended up first meeting a neighbour who didn't seem pleased to see us
- Thompson (7/5): -
- Gemma (10/5): -
- Nur'Asriya (8/5): Very imlressive - Jake and Kate are very friendly host. Room was clean. Love the peaceful, cozy and so quiet. Really enjoued my stay. The toilet is outside. Very cold to shower at night
- Shademan (9/5): Very enjoyable and relaxing. - The place was very nice and clean. I had a great experience. Unfortunately, the bathroom is outside and because it has no door, it is very cold.
- elizabeth (10/5): -
- elizabeth (10/5): Beautiful location! Lovely family! Cute lambs! -
- Rae (5/5): - Nice clean room though fairly small Shower & toilet are on the verandah, very cold to go out to through the night.
When having a shower the water sprays all over the toilet so you have to wipe the toilet down after your shower
- Sanjaied (10/5): -
- Murray (10/5): - Very private, and when the sun came out the view was amazing Had to walk outside to get to the toilet while it was raining and floor was wet.
- Don (10/5): Amazing! Will definitely be back🙏🏼 - Amazing place, hosts took our booking at short notice and were so wonderful. We loved everything about it ! The room, the view, the breakfast .. thank you ☀️
- Michelle (8/5): Very good - Owners lovely and accommodating Néeded bedside lamps minor though but handy
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (10/5): Absolutely lovely and peaceful. - Gorgeous little cabin. Private clean and cute. Well provided breakfast options. Lovely host . Nil
- Sandra (8/5): Cute quiet and cosy cottage - Loved the location, lovely and quiet. Nice being met by the friendly host. Nice and clean room. Offered basic facilities and breakfast which was nice. Outdoor bathroom novel and would be nice in warmer weather. Just found when showering it wet the toilet area. Also, a microwave would be handy if wanting to heat up quick meal.
- Maureen (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely location
Nice family hosting
Clean and quiet
Very private
- Harry (7/5): Well located, great views, cosy space, and friendly host. - Location was great, close to the main town and easy to find. Had plenty of options for breakfast and all the essentials, nicely furnished and presented. Host was friendly! There did appear to be a lot of ants outside on arrival, and some had made their way inside over the walls and some on the bed which could be noticed overnight. The shower curtain could have been a little wider and heavier to help with privacy, as with any wind it becomes impossible to remain completely private. Completely down to unfortunate timing but one of the children came round to check if we had any dishes as one of us was changing and the other showering, when a text or a call would have been fine.
- Peat (8/5): Peaceful after long business days - We enjoyed the quietness and friendliness of the owners. Nothing was a trouble. Maybe a BBQ would be helpful in the future. Nothing
- Andre (10/5): We had a great stay and can recommend highly, thank you. -
- Juliette (10/5): Brilliant - Loved the family, the communication, how accomodating they were to our needs
- David (7/5): Lovely rural retreat, but a bit far from town for us. - Nice quiet rural scenery. Very windy steep road up to the cabin. Also too far away from Whangarei.
- Happy2wander (10/5): Peaceful and comfortable - Cute private cabin that was lovely and clean and had a lovely, peaceful outlook.
Easy parking and very close to some key natural attractions in Whangarei.
- Debra (9/5): Comfortable cottage in a serene setting - Perfect place to relax and unwind Nothing
- Lynne (8/5): Charming little one room cabin.Recommend for the budget conscious traveller wanting serenity - Quirky little cabin overlooking hobby farm.
Hosts lovely and welcoming.
Very clear directions to property
Beautiful surroundings at the top of a hill
- Matthew (10/5): Awesome spot! Great place to stay highly recommend! - Jake was super helpful! The room was so quiet and clean! Amazing surroundings Nothing
- Suzanne (9/5): Superb -
- Noddyk (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and peaceful setting. Jake and Kare very welcoming. The night sky was full of stars.
Quirky bathroom, but a great experience! N/A
- Fern (6/5): Pleasant - Great location, close to town but a lovely quiet rural setting, clean & attractive property & well priced. Both my hubby and I found the bed really hard & uncomfortable & did not get a good sleep due to this.
- Jade (10/5): Exceptional -
- Magnus (7/5): Beautiful setting. - Beautiful setting, peaceful, high up on a hill.
The bed was fine, for me - one person. But for two… maybe too narrow… One curtain was missing, so for someone like me - I woke up a bit too early.
- Aanchal (10/5): Fabulous! - A secluded and peaceful getaway but will all the amenities in place for a comfortable stay! Got to see llamas and ate breakfast looking out onto the rolling hills. We loved our stay here!
- Paul (10/5): A lovely tranquil setting and a good base to explore the area. -
- Arjun (8/5): Very good - Our stay at Kate and Jake’s place was an absolute delight. The adorable, cozy cabin provided a surreal experience, surrounded by nature’s beauty. The facilities were fantastic, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay.
What made it even more special was the wonderful hospitality of Kate and Jake—they were warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Their kindness and attention to detail truly enhanced our experience.
If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with amazing hosts and a charming atmosphere, this is the perfect spot. Highly recommend!
- Christopher (10/5): Tranquility on beautiful farmland - Stunningly beautiful location surrounded by farm land and bush. The 5 cows in the paddock were lovely and soulful. The host was exceptional, very friendly and helpful and ensured our stay was as good as it could possibly be.
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful quiet place to rest
- Steve (9/5): Recommended for a short stay. - Amazing location with basic comforts. Enjoyed staying there. Not much although I would not say it’s close to the city centre; rather it’s only a short but hilly drive.
- Don (1/5): Dream not realized. - Rustic, farm setting and peaceful . Unfortunately we did not stay the night. My wife is mobility impaired and access was difficult with loose metal path and wooden steps. Furthermore the bathroom/toilet was outside of the bedroom and the deck did not have railings, so would have been unsafe for midnight use.
We did not pick this up through the ad on booking .com. No wheelchair or restricted mobility access was mentioned .
We had no alternative but to cancel and look elsewhere.
The owner was not interested in the refunding fee. Sort of understandable.
- Maxime (7/5): Good -
- Guy (9/5): A fun place to stay - The location was as portrayed and was quiet and rural Nothing in particular
- Robyn (8/5): Very good - Was a gorgeous cabin, perfect for a few nights away as a couple. Waking up to the peace of the country, was incredible. The outside shower and toilet made it feel quite rustic, and didn't bother us at all. Due to the photos, we didn't realize it was right next to the owners house.
- Tania (9/5): Great for short overnight stay. Loved being in the outdoors! - Loved the space & outdoor shower & toilet. Great idea!
Clean & nice been greeted by the black cat😀
Breakfast is a nice touch too👌
My husband loved the whole setup with the outdoors Just needs air conditioner as it get really hot at night & can’t sleep. Was nice with the door open for a bit but can’t leave it open in case some animals come in🫣
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Syamsiah (9/5): Cosy, comfy, relaxing andwarm hospitality. - It gives you total privacy and surrounded by nature and some farm animals. Really love the close knit small family with their cute dog and affectionate cat Winston. The cabin was well equipped except no cooking allowed but it was just a night so it was fine. Overall a really cosy and comfortable place to wind down and relax.
- Amber (8/5): It was great though, definitely better for a couple getaway not a work trip - Beautiful place! Great owners Curtains didn’t fit windows, no heating, toilet paper blew everywhere over night lol and need a mirror in the bathroom so you can see when washing your face
- Gary (8/5): We were greeted by lovely people. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great. - Very quiet and relaxing It was a bit cold taking a shower.
- Lewis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Peaceful and love the animals Outside shower could be an issue in the winter
- Johnathan (7/5): Good - Clean and comfortable. A bit too small
- Alan (7/5): Pleasant stay, off the beaten track, so it was quiet. - Comfy bed, friendly welcome, peaceful location. Private bathroom was chilly because it was on the decking, outside, with a flimsy curtain, no door. It was OK, but not convenient for visit to the toilet in the night.
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (8/5): Lovely setting, really nice cabin. Just a couple of small things and it would be fantastic - Amenity, lovely hostess Liked the outdoor shower but needed a screen between shower and toilet and bath mat, bedside lamps to read
- Sandhu (9/5): excellent - View
- Barb (8/5): Lovely nature, host welcoming. Lovely retreat. - Location close to town. Peaceful retreat. No bread available as stated in black folder
Didn’t realise toilet and shower were outside- bit cold at this time of year but would be great in summertime
- Gerry (8/5): Lovely hosts and view; a clean but very basic cabin, would be great for a summer stay. - The hosts are friendly and helpful and the cabin is small and simple but comfortable. Very lovely view from the cabin and a few friendly farm animals around. A regular toilet and shower but they are outside the cabin, with a curtain for privacy--though I should add that there are only cows who might look at you. It was a little cool the night we stayed but the heater worked. A little challenging driving into this picturesque farm home on a winding, narrow road.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cassie (8/5): Enjoyable. - Location, cleanliness, wifi, uniqueness, coziness, price. No bedside lamps. Coffee.
- Denvor (9/5): Superb -
- Frances (9/5): I thought it was delightful and I'd definitely return but probably not in winter. - Tranquil location and bush walks nearby; city very near too.
Animals on farm
Privacy I enjoyed the rustic, outdoor toilet and shower. However, when it rained, I had to be careful to navigate the wet decking, and wear a raincoat. A simple solution to stop the wind flapping the shower curtain around could be to have a weighted curtain, or a bit of velcro attached to walls and curtain? I can see why the plastic corrugated sheets didn't extend further as it would block the view, and I would prefer the view.
- Georgia (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly hosts
Lovely little hide away
- Brent (9/5): Superb -
- Van (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (9/5): Peaceful - Very tranquil atmosphere and far removed from city life’s frenetic pace.
- Susara (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Good communication with host room was great worth the money and love the farm animals
