Guest Reviews
- Adrian (10/5): Perfect - Stayed a few time now , lovely and clean and in a great location.
- Guest (10/5): Relaxing, luxurious and most comfortable. - We adored the small garden area out the front. Watching the sun set. It felt perfect, the room was beautiful and the host had thought of everything.
We will defo be returning to this special little hide out . I feel the experience could be even more enjoyable if the check out could be extended an hour. To enjoy breakfast in the sun and feel a little less rushed.
- Adrian (10/5): Excellent, place to stay ,lovely pub next door very convenient. - Key safe, no problem. Anything
- Ian (9/5): Really nice and cosy, would definitely stay again! - The room was a bit too bright from the sun in the morning. If there could be a blind sort of thing you can pull down in the arch way as you go in to the bedroom because of the sky light the morning sun in summer comes in to early.
- Adrian (10/5): Stayed for 2 x days lovely food in the adjacent pub and very quiet. - The room was excellent, very clean well equipped. Nothing really
- Anne (8/5): Fine for a short stay. - The bedroom, bathroom and kitchen were clean and well decorated. The kitchen had plenty of dishes, cutlery, mugs and glasses and the fridge was a good size. The outside table and chairs were very useful. When we arrived we weren't sure if we had to let anyone know but I found a very helpful lady in the pub. Also when leaving I wasn't sure if we had to let anyone know but spoke to someone in the pub kitchen. The kitchen was very well stocked with dishes etc. It would have been useful to have a more comprehensive list beforehand so that we didn't need to bring so much "stuff" with us. More hanging space for clothes would have been useful. The wifi was very poor. Instructions for the television would have been useful. The shower screen leaked badly at the base of the screen.
- Allan (8/5): Very good -
- Allan (8/5): Very good -
- Edward (9/5): The apartment, location, staff and the food were excellent. - We loved the location and our apartment was great with a very comfortable bed and well equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was excellent.
- James (8/5): Very good - Beautiful little village. The room was conveniently placed for easy access to the pub. Room was well appointed and there was plenty of car parking. Our stay was on a Sunday and it meant we had to eat early!
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (9/5): Great place for short stays đ - Great location, comfortable, quiet, good food & really good staff All Good
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luke (9/5): Superb -
- Nelli (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (6/5): Quirky very well designed comfortable once we warmed up! - Ideal for one night, immaculate, lovely bed , super shower, loads of hot water,
Very good tv. Freezing cold when we arrived. The temporary heater had not been switched on prior to our arrival. Only one chair!
Couldnât find a hair drier?
- Andrew (8/5): Not blown away. - The room was warm, and the shower, although a bit leaky, was powerful and there was plenty of hot water The room is very cramped. There are no seats in the room, there isn't room!
We were aware that the pub was not open on Mondays and Tuesdays.... So our first day it was unavailable, but we were disappointed that on the Thursday the pub was also not available, due to a Christmas meal booking. Surely residents should be catered for. We also found it odd that given there are several guest rooms connected to the pub that there is not a breakfast option. Whilst we were aware of this before booking, in retrospect, this makes the price paid for the room on the high side.By the time you have driven out somewhere for breakfast, then paid ÂŁ20 or so for a single plate of food ( no fruit juices, or pastries, or cereals that would be on offer in many b and B's) ÂŁ90 a night for the room seems too high to me.
- Nicholas (8/5): Nice stay the stay was made excellent by the fantastic staff in the Northbrook Arms. Best bar staff and Sunday lunch ev - The property was very clean and cosy but small. Ok for 1 night but any more would have been a challenge
- Fairhurst (8/5): Very good - Nice quite spot in the countryside. The room had a small kitchen area.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (8/5): Cosy, great little place to stay! - I liked the idea of having a lock box code access to get the keys. Such a quick and convenient way of accessing the property on arrival. The room was decorated really nicely and the bed was comfortable.
There were some nice little things like a selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits on arrival. The towels were clean and soft. The bathroom was definitely big enough and had a fantastic touch light on the mirror.
It was great that the car park was so close to the room. We enjoyed having a drink in the pub/restaurant next to our apartment.
There was a quirky feature of a 100ft well in the pub! A selection of games to keep entertained whilst you can either eat or drink there too. The pub has plenty of space to sit inside and outside and the staff are very friendly. The fact we could not have a game of pool in the converted stable in the games room due to a private function.
There was not much on the menu in the way of Gluten Free food options.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynne (10/5): Excellent ! Beautiful accommodation , great pub , lovely staff , gorgeous food. pubpub , food ! - Just perfect !! within the grounds of the pub made it an easy brilliant overnight location There was absolutely nothing to dislike
- Annabel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Very quiet. Remote even. Pub closed Monday and Tuesday. Barrel Room is very small, but fine for a lone traveller, or a couple who are used to compact accommodation. I enjoyed the free Netflix access
- Matt (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (8/5): Very good - Nice, but fairly small room. Kitchen unit only has microwave - something you need to be aware of on Mondays & Tuesdays when the ub is closed. It´s quite a bit outside Winchester, which we didn´t mind though. Lovely village. Nothing
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lesley (10/5): Pleasant, comfortable stay at a place close to where we needed to visit, with a lovely evening meal. - Had everything we needed for a comfortable one night stay, with the convenience of being able to eat at the pub. Great food.
- Roy (8/5): Very good -
- Watts (9/5): Superb -
- Aaron (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (6/5): Pleasant -
- Fiona (9/5): Very pleasant! - Clean and convenient for a local
wedding. This is not a criticism - but it was impossible to close the skylight window above the fridge consequently when it rained the floor was wet. There was no chair in the apartment & the window was out of reach - perhaps a long handled hook?
- Barrie (9/5): Superb -
- Howlett (10/5): Fine overnight stay will use again - self catering nothing
- Jane (10/5): Perfectly formed in every way - Perfectly formed in every way, great parking, beautiful room with great facilities in the room. Amazing shower, comfortable bed We only got to visit for one night !
- Yvonne (9/5): Superb -
- Walford (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little place
Just nice for two people
- Kathryn (7/5): Good - Left alone to do what I wanted. Didn't see the host at all. Could have been more descriptive about the lack of a seating area or living space,
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Olivia (10/5): Perfect stay in lovely location and very accommodating - Very clean and comfortable - the smell of the room made me feel like I was in a spa! Loved the extra touches (tea and coffee facilities) and soaps. Very accommodating to letting me have a later check out time so I could sleep after my night shift! I would 100% love to stay again (when not working!) Was lovely to sit on the terrace to eat dinner in the sun. Nothing, it was perfect.
- Sharon (8/5): Nice place for a night stop, like we did. But any longer for two people you would need more space. - Very clean, quiet. The bed wasnât comfortable, and there wasnât anywhere for two people to sit and eat. Only two hooks to hang your clothes which wasnât enough for us as we had suit dresses and coats, that needed to hang up.
- Valerie (8/5): Very good - Comfortable bed and room, good bathroom, good WiFi, everything one needs. Damp patches on walls, paint peeling. Very grumpy male restaurant worker. Unfortunate , as the food is good, and restaurant very appealing. Room quite small.
- Nigel (9/5): Superb -
- Tracey (9/5): Superb -
- Grzegorz (10/5): Grzegorz Wasilek - Everything Nothing
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional - Very cosy . Clean . Private
- Andy (9/5): Nice folk in the pub and good food. Room and facilities were very good -
- Neil (8/5): Very pleasant stay and lovely food at the pub too . - Quiet location even though attached to a pub . Everything you needed and loved the shower ! The mattress unfortunately has seen better days and very uncomfortable
- Thomas (10/5): Had a wonderful night in the lovely cottage. Would love to stay again. The food was also delicious. - Cozy and comfortable. All was great.
- Harry (10/5): Cosy and perfect for a couples get away - Lovely secluded little pub get away
- Chris (10/5): Ideal quiet and convenient location to support a one night stay as i was working in the area. -
- Andy (9/5): Winchester visit - Great place ive been before in the past. Nice dining room extension the rooms were nice and clean. Only small criticism was the towels had a smell of Olive Olive about them prob due to industrial cleaning. And we couldnt find the hair dryer. But overall a good stay.
- Ron (3/5): Not good - Very cold when arrived and the pub was closed which was not pointed out so had to go out to get food
- Dawn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (9/5): Superb - Gorgeous room, well equipped and very comfortable.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Knight (10/5): Excellent - Peaceful warm and very cosy. Very clean with some handy items supplied - milk tea and coffee and everything you need in the bathroom. Would definitely visit again. Super quiet.
- Chay (5/5): Passable -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): We want to come back and explore more! 100% loved everything thankyou :) - Everything!!
- Nicholas (9/5): Would recommend staying here. Adjacent pub does excellent food. - Cosy room behind pub A couple of very minor niggles. It is self catering room with simple breakfast equipment. Tea and coffee to be provided, but coffee was a large jar with a sprinkling of congealed instant coffee in bottom. No doubt an oversight, but nonetheless left an impression. TV signal was very poor too.
- Annaleise (9/5): Lovely - It was very nice and private Needed more attention to cleaningâ- lots of spiders and dust in corners
- Sarah (10/5): Cosy little retreat. - Stunning location and the suite itself is really laid out well. The kitchen facilities were an added bonus! Bed was comfy.
- Varenna (10/5): Exceptional - Location in a very nice small and quiet village
Room very well equipped
Very good food and service in the pub nearby
Breakfast not included, but provided tee, coffee, biscuits Room a little too small, and in our opinion too soft mattress.
- Sheila (10/5): Exceptional - It is very small but very well thought out. I had everything I needed. Quite & and private, even though it is connected to a popular pub. The pub serves excellent food. It is in a beautiful location. I would have preferred the checkout to be 11 rather than 10. But it was not really too much of a problem
- Justyw (10/5): Comfortable stay in a very cosy cabin with everything you need. - A lovely cosy little renovated cabin next to a lovely pub in a quiet village. Has a little kitchenette with a microwave, plates, cutlery etc if you want to make some food. Great to have fresh milk in the fridge when I arrived for a cup of tea! Very comfortable king bed and fluffy towels with lovely toiletries. Spotlessly clean. I highly recommend staying here.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb - Loved the fresh milk in the fridge and the miniature shampoo etc as forgot to pack mine.
- Claire (10/5): Great place. Would have liked to spend longer there and enjoy the patio. - Didnât have breakfast. Location ideal for visiting friends in Wherwell. Instructions for locating the Barrel Room were excellent! Property was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Nothing
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gwen (10/5): Clean and well equipped. They have thought of everything! - The property very compact but was really well fitted out, extremely clean and brand new powerful walk in shower. It had everything we needed and was ideal for a place to stay that was nearby to Winchester which is where we were visiting. East Stratton is a quiet little hamlet. We had a lovely meal in the new light and airy restaurant at the Northbrook Arms. I canât think of any bad points. There is no quick direct access to the accommodation from the car park to bring in luggage but they are in the process of making an access way
- Bryan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Joanna (9/5): Quiet location in a clean modern apartment - Set in a picture perfect English countryside road. Lovely and quiet. Apartment was spotless and equipped with everything you need. No negatives
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Nicely renovated; spotless clean; good shower; nice porch in front of the room Not easy to find and pub stuff was simply referring to Booking.com description
- Stuart (6/5): Bijou accommodation, good location. - Lovely country village. The bathroom was very nice. The pub surroundings were undergoing major renovations so it didnât look its best. The pub was closed on the night we stayed so had to travel to a nearby village for food and although the barrel room is bijou it was detracted from by paint peeling off the walls in a number of locations.
I would like to think that once all the work is finished it will be a desirable destination.
- Katie (9/5): Superb -
- Arnold (8/5): Very enjoyable except for the fire alarm at 05:00 on the last day, - Very quiet peaceful location. Good TV and shower Bed was a bit lumpy and tha absense of a hair dryer
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (8/5): Very good - thanks for milk and biscuits - some of paint on walls looking a bit shabby. -
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Lorraine (9/5): Superb -
- Sally (9/5): nice little stay - nice little place clean and comfortable no parking onsite
a little pricey
- Sophie (9/5): Superb - Beautiful place, clean, comfortable and very quiet, highly recommended! Really nice little touches like milk in the fridge and complementary top quality biscuits, everything you need for a great short stay. Shower was amazing!!
- Sally (9/5): overall great stay - comfortable. clean and tidy. the walk from car park and didnât like leaving car as car park was a little dark and surrounded by fields.
- Simon (8/5): Very good - Good clean and comfortable accommodation.
Well equipped for a sort stay. Nice and comfortable bed, good bathroom
Well equipped kitchen.
- Lara (10/5): Excellent value for money and beautifully presented - itâs beautifully clean, immaculate and had so many lovely extras âŚ. fresh milk, teabags, coffee, sugar, biscuits and towels, body wash, shampoo and body cream. We were sad that the pub and restaurant were closed on our two days.. A Monday and Tuesday but understand why ⌠x It just meant that I was the taxi for our trip in and out of Winchester.
- Alison (10/5): really homely and food was excellent - The Aesthetic and the manager/host in the restaurant nothing
- Lisa (9/5): lovely stay. easy to find and everything was just as you would expect. - comfy, clean and quiet
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ella (10/5): Lovely 1 night stay in beautiful location - Perfect quiet location, room was tidy and new, small details like fresh milk in the fridge was lobely
- Jakub (10/5): Beyond Excellence and Top Quality - I stay overnight for work 2 times a week every week all year round so I see a lot of places for comparison. I liked Everything! Located in quiet, lovely village , surrounded by nature , stylish old building renovated with taste and to excellent quality and top standard. My cottage included bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette, even small private patio . Everything was new , smelt new , fresh and superclean . Bed and beddings was absolutely exceptional and comfortable (honestly beddings was unreal , where did you get them ?) Very powerfull spacious shower with very hot water . Lots of towels, high quality shampoo, soap, conditioner , air freshner and spotlessly clean bathroom . Self controlled heating, microwave , fridge , cutlery, plus everything that even 5 star hotels don't always offer . Free car park with lots of spaces and stylish country pub next door . All this for ÂŁ86 !!! well , chains charge more for their miserable rooms. I'm very sorry for the mess .
wasn't my fault but still please
send my best to whoever had to sort it :(
- Carol (10/5): Top Marks - The staff were friendly and helpful.and the food was very good too. The room was clean and bed was very comfortable and cosy. We had all we needed in the kitchen and bathroom.
The location was lovely and very peaceful.
Will come again.đ
- Penny (10/5): Will definitely be back! - Very peaceful and lovely comfortable bed with great shower!
Plenty of parking.
We were nicely welcomed by Dan who went out of his way to show us where the room was and get the key.
Food in the bar was freshly made and excellent! Good place to stay for peace and quiet close to Winchester. Nothing. Although it would have been great to get a full english breakfast before we left. They don't seem to do that, at least not on the Sunday we were there.
- Abbilouu (10/5): Wonderful from start to finish - Lovely little place, easy to find and nice and quiet! Pub just 30 seconds round the corner! Nothing it was great!
