Guest Reviews
- Isabel (10/5): Beautiful little stay - Beautiful setting, incredibly comfy bed, wanted to stay longer Nothing!
- Nick (7/5): -
- Christine (8/5): - The proximity to the sheep and lambs The steep steps to the Shepherd Hut. There were no hand rails, which would have helped us as we were both 80.
Another holiday, no no.
The owners couldn't have been more helpful, especially when we didn't have hot water. Thank you for the experience.
- Aimee (10/5): A perfect birthday stay in a gorg little cabin! 🦆🏕️ - This was the best little birthday stay. Such a gorgeous estate and the people are all very friendly! Ducks are so sweet as neighbours and the cabin had everything you could need - even skewers to toast marshmallows on the fire!!!! we loved everything but the only small thing was that the mattress had a bit of a dip in, so we felt we were rolling into each other !! But still a comfy stay!
- Dawn (10/5): Excellent - Excellent property. Everything you need for kitchen and bathroom. Peaceful apart from plentiful bird song! Staff friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable
- Luke (5/5): Not suitable for senior guests such as we are - Nice and rural Very very tiny
- MARK (6/5): Hungry. But nice experience. Would do it again just not there - I loved that it was a lovely quaint shepards hut The property was fine. Finding it was harder as signs were not clear. The company are more interested in trying to sell you a horse riding or bike package then actually enjoying your stay. I emailed asking if the farm shop would still be open and if not can I buy a breakfast pack. Their reply was very long winded about all the site can offer at extra cost. So ended up with no food. In the morning thought I would find the horse box cafe. To discover they don’t do hot drinks till 10.00 and do not offer food.
Location of the hut is not how the photos make it look. From 8 am there were people driving what sounded like quads or motor bikes. Pretty loud for what you expect
- Robert (9/5): -
- Alex (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- James (10/5): Natural and peaceful bliss surrounded by animals and nature. The local village was quaint, cute and full of lovely frien - The setting was peaceful and beautiful. Surrounded by farmlands, animals and woodlands, for me it was the perfect escape. The cows, ducks and horses all added to the natural beauty of the location/property. For me personally there is nearly nothing to fault or criticise, it was simply perfect in all aspects. Very comfortable and clean, the staff/customer service was extremely helpful and it is extremely affordable. Me and my partner will be returning very soon! Nothing to fault, it was the perfect getaway.
- James (6/5): A beautiful and peaceful location with lots of potential, but let down by cleanliness and maintenance issues. - The location was absolutely stunning – peaceful, surrounded by nature, and a perfect getaway from the hustle. The fenced-off area was ideal for our dog to roam safely. The hut itself was surprisingly spacious and check-in was smooth with a self check-in box, which made arrival very easy. The cutlery and general kitchen amenities were unfortunately quite dirty – we had to wash everything before use. The photos on the listing are outdated and don’t reflect the current state of the property, especially the garden, which was overgrown with nettles and weeds. It wasn’t a charming wild garden; it just felt unkempt. We couldn’t walk around comfortably unless we wore trainers. The flip flops were off the cards even though it was 25 degrees! There was also visible dog mess left from previous guests’ dogs in the garden area, which was unpleasant.
- Olajide James (10/5): - My partner and I had a wonderful time planning to relieve our experience. Privacy and quiet away from the city life. Place to relax.
- Robert (10/5): -
- Carlos (9/5): - Amazing experience. The road accessing the accommodation has substantial potholes which can be inconvenient for vehicles other than SUVs.
- Antonela (10/5): -
- Rebecca (9/5): - Super cozy retreat with good view over the countryside. Good facilities to prepare simple meals. Easy process to access the property without anyone having to hang around to let us in. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Could provide a hair dryer
Would be easier to locate in the dark with clearer signage, but these are picky points on what was a fantastic stay.
- Oliver BOULET (6/5): - The peace, tranquility and the lack of any 21st Century noises. Overall this is a pleasant location though the main photo suggests the hut was previously located in a different location to what we experienced. The bathroom lacked a privacy blind. There was a lack of hooks within the hut for hanging clothes etc.
Some inverted boot poles outside the hut would help with wellies.
Visitor's need to exercise great caution once past the tarmac road. There are significant potholes that will damage your car. This is especially the case when arriving at night.
- Catriona (10/5): Exactly as described - the perfect farm retreat! - The hut is lovely - it’s clean and homely, the perfect farm retreat indeed! The check in process was really easy and we loved having cows, sheep and ducks as our neighbours! This was our second stay here and we will most certainly be back.
- Nicole (9/5): Wonderful little escape for the weekend - Extremely well decorated very cosy retreat. High quality linens and wonderful towels. Unexpectedly great shower! It would be great to have some loungers outside as it's a beautiful spot and there's great star watching but nowhere comfy to sit
- Tayla (9/5): Wonderful weekend stay - The property was easy to find, very comfortable and had everything we need for a little weekend away!
- Jeffrey (8/5): A nice place to stay for walking in the area - Very convenient to walk along to the nearby campsite to get breakfast and evening meals (which were excellent). It was nice to see the ducks in the enclosure close by. There were quite a few wasps in the area
- Isabelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberley (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning
- Gillian (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (10/5): Perfect romantic escape - Although Aspen is small it is absolutely perfect for a romantic escape. The location is idyllic and Aspen has all necessary facilities with a lovely shower. The food served at the nearby camp is a must with the sun setting over the trees. We will definitely be returning! We loved everything!
- Charlie (10/5): Best stay in a long time - The area it was in was very quiet and peaceful!
The bed was so comfortable, wasn’t too hot or too cold at night! Perfect small home for a holiday weekend! Could use a parasol for hot days, otherwise nothing wrong with it at all!
- Kamila (9/5): Cozy little place - We loved the place – it was cozy, well-equipped, and had a great location. Our little dog was safe thanks to the secure fence. The staff were super friendly and easy to communicate with. We'll definitely book again soon. Too high bed😉
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - It was a lovely experience, the accommodation was very cosy, and I enjoyed the foraging and hose riding. Also everyone was so friendly and helpful. I recommend staying here.
- Atil (8/5): Very good -
- Liberty (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! It was a perfect cosy retreat, the shepherds hut had everything we needed for a short stay, we were suprised with how good the shower was, and the spot was quiet and private with your own private section of field for relaxing. Would highly recommend. Nothing really! The directions to find the hut weren't super clear, nor were the walking directions to the local pubs - both referred to some signs that we couldn't find, which made it a little more complicate to locate, but this wasn't a big problem.
- Angela (9/5): Lovely - The hut was very clean and suited us for a 1 night stay. We have 2 small dogs and the location was ideal. Very reasonably priced and staff were very helpful. A couple of points (not criticisms). The walk to the door was muddy and seemed a shame to drag mud into the hut. A few paving slabs up to the door would have prevented this. The field was only partially dog proof for small dogs which meant I couldn't let them out off the lead. A large well behaved dog would probably be fine but mine are terriers and would have disappeared across the farm! Tea and coffee was provided but no milk. A couple of uht sachets would have done or just a small jug of milk, although there was no fridge. As I said, the hut was lovely and perfectly adequate. I'm sure it is lovely in the summer when you could sit outside.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Remote location. Walks in pine plantation. Surprisingly well insulated, so we didn't need our emergency bedding we brought just in case. Dog was pleased there was a fenced garden area so he could play ball off the lead. Unnecessarily bright flashing CO detector LED. Such things always keep me awake. I turned it to the wall.
The electric fan heater (when it tripped on) was a bit noisy, but an essential item. It was very cold outside. Temperature controls on shower are reversed. (Yes I saw the note, but thought it meant the taps!)
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dipeet (10/5): Simply Fabulous! - Due to weather we weren’t able to use this but Cheryl was very kind to offer an alternative free of cost! A lovely place called the Hideaway. It had everything we needed and were were genuinely looked after fairly well, comms are brilliant and very helpful. No issues and in fact a nice hassle free experience which is exactly what we wanted! NA
- Dan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ria (7/5): We did have a lovely stay it’s very warm and cosey with lovely walks surrounding the area - Inside the property was lovely welcoming warm and cosey couldn’t fault anything I feel the outside could have done with a few things like the grass being cut and wood stored in a dry place. We couldn’t really light a fire as the wood was all wet! Also the cushions for the outdoor chairs were stored with the wet wood so also not ideal!
We also got quite lost trying to find the entrance the signs are very poor you can hardly make them out! Signage made brighter and clearer would definitely help
- Lauryn (10/5): An Unforgettable Stay: Cozy Aspen Leaves, Warm Hosts, and a Romantic Proposal - My partner and I had an absolutely amazing stay at Aspen Leaves! The hut was so lovely and cozy—truly the perfect getaway.
A huge thank you to Antonia and her team for being such incredible hosts. The weekend we visited, the weather wasn’t ideal, but your warm and welcoming hospitality made all the difference.
Aspen Leaves will always hold a special place in our hearts because I proposed to my partner there! It was such a romantic moment, and she loved every detail of our stay.
Thanks again for everything! We’re already looking forward to coming back in the summer.
- Kimberley (5/5): Passable - Loved the sheperds hut shame there was water issue however was upgraded going back nxt summer hoping there are no issues then 😀 I had leave the sheperds hut
- Louisa (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice nature place, perfectly equipped easy check in and very friendly staff!
- Sara (10/5): Warm and comfortable Autumn break. - Well equipped and in a perfect location.
- Borkia (10/5): Exceptional - I loved everything about this property—it is cosy and comfy and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. I adore the location in the heart of South Downs Reserve.
- Borkia (10/5): Cosy and relaxing - Fantastic cosy cabin with everything you need to relax
- Woodleysmith (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Max (7/5): Ticked the box… - Ticked the box, facilities within the property were fine, view from cabin was good, very much one with nature. Track to access property was poor, almost un-driveable. Location is also not what appears in the photos. Communication poor from host, no response since the initial message prior to start of stay, even after multiple messages, it’s a good job we didn’t need anything urgent…
- Sarah (10/5): Wonderful. Cannot fault it. - Everything! I booked just as somewhere to rest my head as I had an early appointment the following day, but this place is beautiful! Very easy to locate, very quiet and clean.. wonderful. Strong hot shower, comfy bed, I felt safe and secure. Literally nothing.
Maybe a microwave but that's nit picking. No TV, but if you're desperate there's a decent data signal for your phone.
- Td (8/5): Simple, clean, quiet and nicely rural - Immediate outside area just needs a bit of a tidy up ... its a bit too rough at the moment.
Need two simple fold up chairs inside ... for rainy days.
- Alice (7/5): Good - Cosy, quiet & it had the essentials we needed. Nice decor, soft towels, and bathroom toiletries provided. Nice private seating outside. Too warm - the bed had a thick duvet & blankets when we really just needed a light summer duvet.
The location is also down a long bumpy lane which was not ideal for our small car, nor for a taxi drop off in the dark!
- Bichard (10/5): Exceptional - Shower was so cold
- Ryan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Myles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hayley (7/5): Away from it all - Lovely and peaceful, enjoyed sitting outside with the fire pit. Fridge was a small chill box. Shower was cold
- Francisca (7/5): Nice place when you do not have expectations ... - The area is beautiful. The wagon is located in a beautiful estate. It is a cosy place. Nice that you can make fire, The beds and shower are good. And the food at the camping is unforgettable. Nice walks! The surroundings of the wagon could be much better. The 'garden' around the wagon is not maintained at all (nettles everywhere) the vue is not optimal. There is almost no refrigerator. And the bed and cushion covers did not smell very clean.
- Anna (9/5): Superb - Gorgeous little cabin. Very clean and well set up
- Gergo (7/5): Good -
- Aeffit (10/5): Exceptional - So peaceful and relaxing Unique clean and peaceful. Everything you need to get away from a busy life to recharge
- Phil (9/5): Ideal if you want a remote & peaceful retreat! - Great location and everything needed for a comfortable stay. Only real comment would better signage and some attention to potholes & speed humps on the drive to accommodation.
- Christina (8/5): Unique get away - Amazing cabin. Lovely and compact. The pictures on booking.com for outside are not the same and it’s extremely over grown with stinging nettles. The pathway to get there is 2 foot at a push wide and each side there is nettles, quite difficult to get through without getting stung. Hob did not work and lights were not at night making the walk way even harder. Key safe is not near to cabin and no instructions of this.
- Annika (9/5): Great countryside getaway - Due to maintenance work being done, we got an upgrade to a larger cabin, and had a lovely stay at Country Downs. It was very peaceful, and the bed exceptionally comfy. The hot outdoor shower was a highlight.
- Pete (8/5): Very good -
- Samantha (7/5): Good - Spotless with all amenities and comforts.
Was cutting the grass on our arrival so was a bit delayed, but not a big deal, just a bit hot to hang around with no shade, Hot & cold water & shower and a hot and cold fan for the hottest day of the year was a perfect treat! All the local pubs are shut.Monday and Tuesdays so unless you've taken meals to prepare yourself, you're out on a limb, so we lived off the bottle of wine and packet of crackers we had left, but that was no problem or big issue. We had 2 dogs and it was so very hot there was no shade for them at all, so it would have been ideal to have a small parasol or awning for shade.
But really, these are minor picky things.
- Mary (1/5): Bad -
- Ellie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nic (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (8/5): Very good - What a wonderful peaceful break. The cabin we had booked (Aspen leaves) was not available so we were offered another cabin, The wood cabin. It was lovely! the bonus was the outdoor bath, overlooking the beautiful countryside. The bed in the Wood cabin is very high! perfectly fine if you're young and mobile but just to be aware that it would not be suitable for anyone with any mobility issues.
- Aimée (10/5): Really lovely location, beautiful hut with everything you need. Would love to stay again. Thank you x -
- Charlie (9/5): Perfect weekend!! My ideal getaway home, perfect for couples with a small dog!! - Small and cute!! Isolated from the rest of the world!! The shower was a little bit cold
- Sylvie (10/5): Natural beauty by day and amazing night sky after dark - Cute shepherds hut, very comfortable in a lovely rural location with local activities such as horse riding. Nothing
- Andreas (10/5): Highly recommended! Great shepherds hut in a lovely setting. - Very nice and well equipped shepherd’s hut. We had a great time!
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Reya (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. The bed was extremely comfy and cosy. Nothing!
- Katalina (10/5): The perfect place for switching off and grabbing the best nights sleep EVER! - I loved the location- the sound of the farm, the stags walking across the property as I entered it, the full dark, vibrant star lit sky- so perfect for a switch off moment. The bed is one of the comfiest beds ever and don’t even get me started on the honey pots! The only problem I had was finding the right key location in the pitch black- totally my fault though as Cheryl had sent an email explaining exactly where it was! The coms were brilliant, even down to prepping my footwear for the path to my location- will recommend to many :) nice touches: instructions for the compost loo, honey from the farm, excellent lighting options, black out blinds annnnd did I mention that bed?! Seriously. You’ve gotta try it!
- Carole (9/5): Utterly charming - Lovely, secluded location. Unusual accommodation with all facilities required. No WiFi. Little muddy to get to accommodation when wet. Tricky to find in pitch dark.
- Ella (8/5): Cosy - Location was lovely. Perfect place to get away from the world. The fire pit was amazing. Cosy and very reasonable price. Was a bit concerned at first about the compost loo but we were pleasantly surprised as it didn’t smell bad. No hot water! As staying one night we didn’t bother complaining as it was quite late in the evening and didn’t want to bother anyone. But it was frustrating that we had no hot water and we hoped to have a shower after a long day of dog walking! The bedding did smell a bit damp which wasn’t ideal but the mattress was comfy.
- Jade (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (8/5): It was good - Shower had little mould at bottom of door
- Bethany (10/5): Exceptional - The perfect secluded spot to have a a few days away!
- Jo (9/5): Superb - Very neat and lots fitted in for the size of it!
- Matthew (10/5): Had a lovely time - Quiet and clean Signage was poor
- Jamie (9/5): Superb - The stars are amazing here!
- Ian (7/5): Good - The only issue we had was finding the property as we arrived after dark.
- Hilary (10/5): Staying in the shepherd’s hut was fun and I would like to stay again and also go riding. - The shepherds hut was very well fitted out with a comfortable bed and kitchen facilities and a small fridge. And very clean. The shower was excellent. The eco-toilet situated within the en-suite bathroom was very easy to use and no smell at all. We had fine weather and much enjoyed eating our supper outside with a blazing campfire. We had taken a bag of wood but pleased to find matches and eco-firefighters and a little extra wood. We appreciated the countryside views and a lovely walk in the NT wood and heath close by. Antonia and Cheryl replied quickly re my query about riding, and also sent useful information as to facilities and walks and things to do in the area. We visited West Dean Gardens on the Saturday and Petworth antique shops on the Sunday. They also sent information re Woodfire Campsite situated on the farm and eating at their open-air wood-fired grill which would be fun on another stay. Would definitely recommend Aspen Leaves for a fun weekend. I think two fold up chairs should be provided for sitting in the hut, or eating at the small table inside, in the event of rainy weather. I don’t know where these could be stored.
- Ward (10/5): The best overnight stay we have ever had - Everything was lovely so clean..so well equipped...bed and bedding so comfy...towels were fluffy....loved the bird bingo....fire pit and chairs lovely addition
We had such a lovely time thankyou Nothing it was all perfect
- Gareth (9/5): Superb -
- Gabrielle (10/5): Peaceful stay in the woods - The location, it was so quiet lovely place. The bonus was that we had a lovely breakfast cooked fresh and the coffee was good. Nothing I can think of
- Douglas (9/5): Excellent facilities, and shepards hut tastefully fitted out. We had a really enjoyable night away - Location was perfect, enough wildlife to keep us interested and beautiful views Log burner in hut would have topped it off but that is clutching at straws! Lovely place to stay
- Clare (10/5): super relaxing break - very comfy bed...super shower. ...location was idyllic...so very relaxing and peaceful. going to sleep looking at stars through the window and waking up to sounds of the birds. there was wood and everything needed to light the campfire... there was nothing to not like. I will definitely book again
- Catriona (9/5): Superb - The hut was absolutely beautiful - very clean, and generally just a lovely place to stay! We didn't have any hot water in the shower for our stay which was a bit of a shame but not the end of the world as we were only staying for one night.
- Hazel (9/5): It was Idyllic and a welcome break for us both. My daughter was getting married the following day and we spent a calm, r - The peace and quiet. Spotlessly clean. Beautiful location There could have been some anti slip strips on the wooden steps leading up to the door? I am now 70 and have some hip problems. In the wet the steps were a little slippery, thanks.
- Jan (10/5): A lovely peaceful romantic location - We liked the fact that it was private lovely views The road into the property was full of pot holes which later found we had a flat tyre
A microwave would have been handy
- Sharon (7/5): A fun, cosy, peaceful night away from the rat race. Because of the weather we couldn’t sit outside and stare at what cou - Cosy shepherds hut in the countryside. Comfy bed, great shower, everything you need included. We joined the barbecue in the evening which was very organized with very friendly organizers. Only two choices on the barbecue which was a little disappointing, steak or halloumi, more choice would have been good.
- Emma (8/5): Very good - Lovely setting, easy to find. Nicely equipped. Getting used to the compost loo!
- Katie (10/5): Tranquil stay in seeet shepherds hut. - The property was quiet and had a lovely view. The shepherds hut was really sweet, well equipped and just a delight to stay in overnight. It was all great.
- Jeremy (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (9/5): perfect for a night, stay over highly recommended - something really different, a really great outdoor experience, especially with the log fire and the stars
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - The location was very relaxing and having the fire pit in the evening was a lovely place to sit and chill with a glass of wine and nibbles.
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Excellent hideaway retreat, a fantastic escape from the everyday -
- Stephen (7/5): A pleasant stay just needs a few tweaks to be perfect. - The seclusion and view was just what was needed The bathroom layout was very tight when getting dressed after a shower, it could do with an opaque covering on the window and the toilet extractor fan failed to work at all. The building did lack a smoke detector and carbon monoxide alarm, not an issue in the summer as windows are open. Sadly the coffee was out of date on our arrival.
- Michael (8/5): Great fun. Rustic getaway. - Really rustic getaway. Awesome if you’re in an adventurous mood. Difficult to find the accommodation.
