Guest Reviews
- Tom (6/5): - Staff, were very good The fact that full english/Irish was advertised but not available, we were under the illusion that what we paid for was a cooked breakfast.
Bed was uncomfortable and very noisy...
- goldenblue100 (10/5): A lovely hotel in the heart of Ripen, with excellent food - The cooked breakfast was particularly good on Sunday, with all locally sourced, high quality ingredients. Really tasty sausages and gluten free too.
Staff were really helpful.
Evening meal was delicious.
The location is awesome, right in the heart of Ripen, just a short walk to the cathedral Parking is limited, but there is a large carpark nearby that met our needs
- Julie (9/5): - Very central to where we wanted to be near. All fine 4 us.

- Michael (4/5): - Location was great, the food was fantastic The room wasn't cleaned daily, but I think the bathroom should be and you've got to ask for clean towels and toilet rolls, breakfast was contentlle which we didn't know about, only cooked breakfast at weekends.
- Catherine (6/5): - Large comfortable bed. Good location Decor very tired, wonky tap. Breakfast limited (second day only white sliced bread, no wholemeal)

- Janice (9/5): - The location was great.
We arrived earlier than the check-in time, and Allie, the host, was great as we were going to the races. we were able to quickly change in our allocated room.
Parking close by at Sainsburys, a large long stay car park and cost for parking fir 24 hours was just £2.90.
We would definitely stay at the Royal Oak again.
Thank you again, Allie, for being such a great host. N/A

- Michael (9/5): This is the perfect stop for a bicyclist marred only in that the WiFi wouldn’t reach room 12. - Friendly staff. Good bike storage. Good food. Crappy internet.
- Andy (9/5): Ripon is lovely! - Great food, lovely hospitality. It was VERY warm in the room, and the small fan was struggling. It was the hottest day of the year!
- Margaret (9/5): Great location but not great if you have mobility issues - Great location, right in the centre of Ripon, very clean, and surprisingly quiet in the room. Very generous breakfast .Staff were welcoming and friendly . The room was quiet, clean and comfortable No lift. Room on 3rd floor, which was a challenge due to mobility issues
- Dominique (7/5): Ville sympa. Personne à qui parler dans l’hôtel moyennement propre. - Son emplacement Personne pour accueillir
- Mirko (7/5): -
- Russell (10/5): -
- Helen (7/5): Love Ripon and wanted to be in the centre of everything. The accommodation was value for money - Was in the centre of everything .
- Robert (8/5): -
- V&JRegan (6/5): -
- Trevor (3/5): - Location Room was red hot couldn't turn the heating down . Very noisy aswell . And to top it off no cooked breakfast only continental which was shambolic stale cheese and very little choice of cereal we will never stay again
- Lynne (10/5): -
- Nan (8/5): We have already booked for same time next year - We had same room as on previous stay, small but very clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was excellent as always. We would certainly recommend The Royal Oak Nothing
- Lang (8/5): Neat stop along the way. - Cute town and good location for this hotel Parking was a ways away and we needed to walk with our luggage.
- Mrboff (8/5): Great location - Great location, staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great Our room was a little small (no 2)
- Suzanne (6/5): One night stay - We loved the location and staff were very nice.
The bathroom was lovely and great shower. The staircase carpets were grubby and in need of a good clean.
Our bed mattress wasn’t very comfortable. No pillow protectors which is a 🤮 for me.
- Charlotte (9/5): - Its location is great and exactly what was needed for 1 night but would return
- SallyT (9/5): What a great find- Brilliant accommodation in a central location. - Great location for our needs. Friendly helpful team. Fabulous breakfast. Lovely comfortable room & Great value for money.
- Russell (10/5): -
- Nowell (7/5): Overall it was an ok place to stay! - Central location. No on site parking, we were asked what juice we wanted at breakfast and we asked for orange but we were told they had none. No hot breakfast only continental.
- Charles (8/5): - Good location and pleasant staff.

- Michelle (10/5): A great place to stay - A great location in the centre. The room was lovely and very clean. The pub is a great venue too with exceptional food. We will definitely be back. Nothing
- Rachel (9/5): -
- andrew (7/5): -
- Mal (8/5): Pleasant stay - Great location, friendly staff, nice food and drinks in the bar/restaurant. TV wasn't working on check in, I mentioned this to staff who said it would be looked at while we were out for the day. It still wasn't fixed when we returned about 9pm. It wasn't a major problem, but we do like to watch the news in the morning before going for breakfast. We would still stay there again though.
- Tim (5/5): Disappointing because we’d heard very good things about the Royal Oak. - Great central location, lovely welcoming staff. We had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant. We found the amount and duration of nighttime noise from the street and the people in the adjoining room with their bedroom antics ruined the whole experience. A nice cooked breakfast might have repaired the damage but it was a help-yourself continental breakfast and the bread for toast was stale. The en-suite had a very loose tap, a loose toilet seat, and a broken toilet roll holder. If we’d been staying longer we’d have asked to get things fixed but we put up with it for one night.
- Michael (9/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Enjoyable stay in a city with much to offer. - Location was perfect for exploring Ripon on foot and was within 100 metres of several restaurants. Evening meal was very good. The room was spacious with a king-size bed and excellent en suite facilities. Car parking was off site but reasonably priced overnight parking was found close by.
Convenient centre for visiting the many attractions in the surrounding area. Though the 'continental breakfast' was enjoyable, I was expecting to be offered the choice of a cooked 'English' breakfast.
- Shirley (9/5): - Very friendly staff, location Room jaded, TV only one channel,
- Guest (8/5): - I like Ripon I am not a rabbit. I did not enjoy raw carrot with dinner. The replacements weren't much better either. The dining room was almost unbearably noisy.
- Suzanne (9/5): It was great, and the bonus of there being a restaurant when you advised there was no catering there! - Location. Clean and friendly staff Nothing
- Roderick (8/5): - Hiw central it was and very friendly
- Helen (8/5): -
- Colin (10/5): Reunion - Staff where very friendly and helpful, room was clean and tidy very comfortable bed,and the food was exceptional. The wasn't anything to dislike.
- John (8/5): -
- Peter (5/5): - Good location. Got in at 11pm, tv didn't work properly, but already in bed so just turned it off. Booking said very good breakfast included, was actually just cereal and toast, no offer of a cooked breakfast. Probably wouldn't stay again.
- Saba (8/5): - L atmosfera,
- Carmel (8/5): Would stop again. - Location and comfy, clean room. Good choice of breakfast. Stairs - not too bad but a little daunting for my husband.
- Stephen (9/5): -
- sharron (10/5): Great stay and breakfast was fantastic - In centre of ripon
Staff where very helpful
Room was very clean
And the ripon ale walk was
Fantastic to see all the pubs Nothing
- Mark (9/5): -
- Laura (10/5): - The staff were welcoming, the bacon was cooked exactly how I asked for it and it was the beat coffee I've ever had!
- Ben (6/5): Very noisy Saturday night - avoid - Nice room, helpful staff I asked for a quiet room, got a room over the bar, live music until midnight. Would not stay again.
- Jeannieann69 (4/5): Expensive and poor service. - They cater well gluten free. Staff abrupt, unfriendly and unhelpful.
No heating in my room, a very cold and uncomfortable night. You can clearly hear people in other rooms.
- Southern (7/5): - Excellent breakfast The TV wouldn't turn over chanells
- Sarah (9/5): Great - Great last minute booking, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was top quality. Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): It was a perfect stop over point with superb food - The breakfast and stall were excellent and there room was good and it was an ideal location No real faults, there was a problem with one light bulb which they offered to fix straight away.
- Rob (10/5): -
- Alexander (7/5): -
- Christine (10/5): Great stay. - We really enjoyed our stay. All the staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room was comfortable, with everything we needed. The location was excellent- a stone's throw from the cathedral. The food was great- we had dinner and breakfast, which were excellent. We'd definitely come again. Nothing.
- Joanne (8/5): Good pub - Lovely pub. Fab location. Great staff. Nothing really
- Vanessa (8/5): Lovely, comfy room. Tremendous food and great location - We've stayed before and the room was much nicer than last time. Modern, comfortable, great bathroom.
Dinner in the evening was exceptional. Breakfast was pretty good too. Filled us up for the day.
Great location and the parking near the Sainsbury was dead cheap at £2.80 for 24 hours. Toilet stalls in the bar are all pretty narrow - and I'm not big!!
- Lyn (6/5): Nice breakfast just seemed bit grubby - Good location Bit dated looked a little grubby
- Michelle (5/5): Very friendly but rooms/bathrooms are quite tired - The staff were absolutely brilliant, really friendly and really accommodating to dietary requirements The sink wasnt fully cleaned, so there was someone else's tooth paste left on it.
The rooms are quite tired, with the decor very DIY.
- Rachel (10/5): Restful break in a lovely place - Great location, friendly helpful staff, lovely food
- Gary (8/5): -
- CHRIS (8/5): -
- Terence (6/5): would like to come again, but in Summer when it's sunny a bit. - Really lovely grub, the steaks my son and I asked for were done to perfection [medium rare] and plenty on plate, slept like a baby, good choice of drinks at bar.
Would definitely try this Hotel again. Could be improved by just little things such as bedside units with drawers and 2 or 3 trays or mats to put drinks on, maybe a bit more up to date furniture.
- Lefley (9/5): Excellent location - The location was excellent for town centre.
The breakfast was superb what you needed to start your day.
- Hibbert (8/5): - The real ale selection was good There was no breakfast as the electric had went off in the kitchen
- Gareth (10/5): - Availability at short notice. Staff were excellent, thank you.
- Stephen (10/5): A quality place to stay. - The Royal Oak is what I would describe as a hidden gem. The value for money was absolutely superb for the comfortable room we got. The stuff were excellent and really welcoming, a special mansion must go to Luke for whom nothing was any trouble. The food was great and the beer was excellent. Nothing at all, in fact we liked it so much we came back the next night..
- Stephen (10/5): So good, we came back the next night. - Please see my previous review Nothing
- Kerry (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Abbey (8/5): Very lovely, clean and comfy - The location was really close to the centre and the amenities were great! Nothing, was great for a little stay away from home!
- Duncan (7/5): - The whole property is in need of a refresh. It looked a bit unloved
- Helen (6/5): - The lady at breakfast was lovely and couldn't do enough for you. The food at lunch and breakfast was very good. The bathroom was dirty with hairs in the bath and toothpaste still in the sink from the previous guest. The rooms were cold.
- hannah (8/5): A lovely pub with friendly staff and a tasty breakfast. - The staff were very friendly, the room was nice and breakfast was tasty Small detail - coasters were needed for drinks. The main lights in the room weren't very bright.
- Linda (5/5): stayed here lastyear not sure it will be next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - looked after luggage before booking in time,

- Dave (8/5): -
- Matthew (4/5): -
- graham (4/5): - The bed was like sleeping on an ironing board
- Stuart (6/5): Served a purpose but would expect more for the cost - Great location in central Ripon, staff were really friendly Seemed over priced for the quality- no sound proofing so could hear people coming up to the other rooms through the night. Breakfast served a purpose but could have been better.
