Guest Reviews
- Mavis (9/5): Very enjoyable - The location is brilliant with views, down to the River Thames in the beautiful town of Abingdon. The breakfast is excellent.
- Hervé (8/5): -
- Ann (8/5): - Great breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely comfy bed. Plenty of on site parking.l Bathroom mirror put up by a giant. I'm 5'2" snd it was way above my head! Nowhere in bathroom to hang towels etc. Loo seat loose and wobbly (not fixable apparently!) Not a very varied evening menu, although what was cooked was excellent.
- Jacqueline (9/5): - The best spot to stay in, in Abingdon - excellent location, lovely hotel. Very pretty area, perfect for the town or a river walk/Abbey walk
- ANDREW (8/5): Good base for a short break - Good central location, although limited free parking on site.
Excellent to use as a base when visiting that part of Oxfordshire Nothing
- Dominique (10/5): The heart of Abingdon - Exceptional place in an exceptional location. Stunning gardens and views. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast.
- Tracey (9/5): - Good value and lovely room and garden view to the river
- Warren (8/5): - Location
Staff nice
Breakfast nice
Room clean Room very basic no views. Was a convenient smoking area but nowhere to sit there .Just stand. Would of been nice to have a bench or couple chairs. There was a picnic table but it was outside someone's apartment so not sure if we could sit there.
- Andrew (4/5): Very disappointed. Will not stay again. - Location. Grounds. Internal communal areas dirty. Crockery in room dirty. Lack of provisions in room. Double room but not double provisions.
Room lacked proper sound proofing. Could hear conversations and coughing from room next door. Reported this to reception and was told “we’ll see what we can do about the carpet when the manager comes in” !!?? This was about 9.30 in the morning!!
- Helen Patricia (8/5): Worth returning to - The gardens were beautiful and the receptionist was really lovely and helpful
It's really well situated in abingdon also The only small thing I did not like were the scrambled eggs but the rest of the breakfast was lovely and I'd stay again
- Paul (9/5): -
- Ann (6/5): Great location, nice heritage listed building, breakfast food good but service could have been better, reasonable value, - The location is gorgeous, and the heritage house was lovely in the public areas. Reasonable price for a small single room with breakfast included. No a/c in the room, and the windows only opened a little way, so it was very stuffy in my room after a warm day. The buffet breakfast had all the expected offerings but on the Sunday at least, there were a lot of guests eating and the staff weren’t keeping up with topping up items. So we had to wait for more scrambled eggs and by the time that tray was refilled, there were no more baked beans. Plus they totally ran out of granola. And I understand that there were no lifts because the building has been heritage listed, but it was hard lugging baggage up the rabbit warren stairs and corridor (and no help from staff was offered).
- Scott (8/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): Tranquil setting and exceptionally nice rooms. Breakfast basic but staff charming and attentive. - Beautiful setting. The staff were friendly and allowed us to take a blow up bed as did not want to share a double. They provided extra bedding. Bath and shower good. Tea, coffee and TV. Felt safe and. Comfortable. Watched squirrels, different birds and water birds from close up. Enjoyed the closeness of nature. The bridge to access our room was quaint and the water full of yellow Lily pads. Very busy Saturday and Sunday breakfast. Too many guests at once. Running low on food and waiting for half of breakfast. I prefer my mushrooms and tomatoes hotter but poached eggs were lovely. Staff seemed under pressure though did their utmost. It’s not difficult to work out that more staff were needed.
- jill (7/5): Lovely location, quiet charm. - Location stunning, garden with views to the river, narrow boats too!
Room comfortable and large.
Breakfast good with view over the garden.
Quiet and peaceful. Staircases to bedroom, but we managed!
- Daniela (10/5): -
- Dex (10/5): It’s a beautiful building in great settings a lovely place to say for a night or more - Beautiful building beautiful sitting overall a lovely place to stay Only negative it would be nice to have the option of a proper Feather pillow
- Jan (6/5): Good location and reasonable price - The location of the property is great, not least as its gardens run down to the Thames. Staff were generally very helpful and accommodating. Adequate parking on site, and generally quiet environment. The rooms were adequate, if somewhat on the small side, including tiny bathroom and shower. Only one side table on the double bed, but given the heat the hotel did provide a fan for the room. Concerns generally from a number of guests regarding the lack of sufficient breakfast choices
- Andrea (8/5): -
- Mary (9/5): -
- agnes (8/5): - L'endroit très sympa, les écureuils et le personnel très agréable.
La vue sur la Tamise Déco salle de restaurant un peu triste alors que les pièces sont jolies.
- Gordon (9/5): Lovely historic building in great location with very friendly staff - Great location and beautiful garden with River frontage
All the staff were realty friendly and helpful
- phillip (9/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): -
- Layne (8/5): - Very nice big room. Nothing
- Sharon (10/5): It was really lovely - The hotel was perfect in every way and the grounds were lovely Abington was a bit too busy.
- Johan (8/5): Prima locatie om de omgeving te verkennen, dichtbij Oxford. - De ruime kamer Het matras is aan vervanging toe,
- Petrica (1/5): - Access to WI Fi in 4 difficult steps, I have used my data, no room facilities, difficult to find location, aged look.
- hannah (9/5): Beautiful hotel is fantastic location - Beautiful hotel with a convenient location a short walk from the river. Staff were friendly - they offered recommendations for local eateries during check-in and responded to dietary requests re. breakfast. I could hear music quite early (around 6.30am) - possibly from reception or the dining room.
- Philip (8/5): Great location - Breakfast ok but ran out of items
Room.on the small side Bigger room full items for breakfast
To get to room.a bit of a maze9⁹
- Sarita (10/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): Lovely hotel in great surroundings at a good price. - Lovely hotel in a picturesque setting, good value for money. Curtains in room were a bt thin so the room was very light early. Continental breakfast options a bit ordinary. But these are small points
- Banner (10/5): - Excellent staff. Beautiful building and fabulous location.
- lauren (3/5): -
- Nicholas Roy (8/5): It was a nice stay with plenty to do in the area. we did enjoy the break and it was quiet. - Breakfast was good although not very varied. My wife would have like more variety of fruit and yogurt. The young waitress who was working on most morning was very friendly and helpful a real credit to the hotel also the reception staff were also very helpful and friendly. The room was ok but could have done with more natural light most days during the morning and afternoons it was very dark and we had to put the lights on. also the room was ok it would have been nice if it was a little bigger.
- Mel (8/5): Perfect location exceptional she staff especially Manwel - Location Parking
- Iain (8/5): -
- Glyn (9/5): A delightful hotel with an excellent breakfast. - Ideally situated close to the river and the city centre. Car parking
- Wendy (5/5): - Evening meal very good.
Staff were lovely.
View of the river.
This survey is very well thought out. Bed too firm for us.
No grab rail at all to get in and out of the bath to shower.
Cold plates at breakfast.
- Graham (8/5): - LOcation is beautiful, hotel quirky. Room not glamerous but location and setting were amazing.
- Patrice (10/5): Really enjoyed stay will definitely be back - Excellent hotel, clean and well appointed. Great position by Thames. Friendly and helpful staff very welcoming. Great breakfast with very reasonable accommodation price. Nothing
- David (9/5): Excellent - Comfortable Not a lot
- Alder (9/5): Comfortable - Great location on River Thames.
Nice gardens
Interesting building Limited menu but we'll cooked
- simon (10/5): -
- Saskia (7/5): -
- Linda (9/5): -
- Tony (7/5): Something different. Lovely garden areas leading to the river. - Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Location was awkward to get to, but in a central position which was in its favour. The room layout, in that the bathroom was along a corridor with steps.
- Juergen (8/5): -
- Judith (8/5): Nice secluded base to stay, and no big conferences on when we were there, so it was quiet. - Lovely setting, though road directions might have been clearer. Friendly and helpful receptionist on arrival. very nice room and view, very quiet. Breakfast adequate. Friendly staff generally. Clearer road directions. Would have welcomed freshly made tea/coffee at breakfast. The water urns produced lukewarm water, so the toasting system was slow and rather antiquated.
- Penny (3/5): Awful … not 5 * - Location fabulous 5*as advertised on the hotels website.
Bedroom was small, utility furniture, not as good as a Premier Inn quality! We supposedly had an upgrade…. Joke!
Bar not available on first night, due to wedding. On the Sunday evening,no food, available, only wanted sandwich. Did ask for the bar early evening, but receptionist was the bar staff, so bar not manned for further service.
Highlighted our disappointment on checking out after 2 nights, male member of staff stated it wasn’t a 5*.
So… our 5* weekend away didn’t happen.
Use Premiere inn in Abingdon, unless you’re happy with student/ conference style accommodation. Very poor
- Les (9/5): Lovely spot, top facilities - Lovely spot and we really loved our stay.
Breakfast was lovely and reception staff member, upon our arrival, was very friendly. Thank you
- Phyllis (10/5): - Friendliness ans attentiveness of staff
The breakfast was delicious.
- kim (10/5): - Staff superb, nothing any trouble, friendly, respectful ,helpful and polite
Room clean and comfortable bed
Located in a lovely setting
Good food Nothing
- Anita (10/5): - Lovely traditional hotel, fantastic location
- Laura (6/5): - La posizione e la vista Non hanno sistemato la stanza gli ultimi due giorni di permanenza
- Gillian (9/5): -
- seema (8/5): English country side stay with breakfast, proximity to Thames , parks and restaurants - Very country side vibe, central and Thames and walk right next to it. The bathrooms renovated. Old country look and very central. Room is very small.
- Mark (9/5): A really lovely hotel in a great location. - Great location and a really lovely hotel. The room was spotless and the staff very friendly. Breakfast was good.
- Teresa (10/5): Absolutely lovely place - We go every year absolutely lovely place the grounds, location is amazing recommend this hotel
- Bernard (10/5): Excellent hotel and location. - Very happy with the room. The hotel itself was set in a beautiful location and very close to the town centre. Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Excellent breakfast. Abbingdon itself is a nice town, but the main attraction has to be the river Thames. Really nice scenic walks along side the river. The Nags Head is well worth a visit.
NOTE: due to the road system the hotel is not particularly easy to find/drive to. Suggest you use a SAT NAV to make it a bit easier.
- Mark (6/5): Lovely setting and friendly staff but more could be done to give the rooms some character. - The staff we dealt with were all very helpful and friendly. The grounds were lovely and backed on to the Thames and it was a very short walk to the town centre (and St Helen's church is a 'must-see'). Perhaps I should have looked closer at the website, but I was anticipating a room with a bit of old-world charm. Instead, the room was a pretty bland Premier Inn type affair and with no pictures on the wall and a poorly stocked coffee point. So I confess to feeling a little disappointed.
- Jacqueline (8/5): Very nicely situated excellent view from dining room to river. - Lovely gardens staff very welcoming room clean Room was a double very plain & basic. The 2nd pillow supplied very poor.
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- colin (3/5): Disappointing - Good location Very small room and poor facilities. eg only one chair, no shelf in bathroom, small bed. Limited dinner menu.
- Mark (7/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Would stay again without hesitation -
- Phelim (10/5): -
- Anne (8/5): -
- John G Francis (8/5): - Staff, location and breakfast All good.
- Martin (1/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Very enjoyable stay in a quiet location - Nice quiet location & easy access to good food & pubs. Short drive to Oxford was handy.
The breakfast was very good both with quality & selection.
Staff only too willing to help in any way. A bit too warm, which would be welcome in the colder months, but not in spring/summer.
No tissues supplied, where most hotels do.
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Carol (7/5): - Beautiful setting, rooms were clean & comfortable& staff were friendly. Very limited menu, and, although we were advised that we didn't need to preorder for our group of 8, we were then told that some of the items were off the menu, & some had only a few portions available. Some discussion between the waitress & chef led to us being able to order the ones in short supply, and the extra wait was not a problem. Menu was the same for the following night so we cancelled that booking.
- Rosemary (10/5): - My stay here was delightful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location close to the Thames Path was perfect for me.
- Robert (7/5): - The situation. The breakfast
- Gordon (9/5): Beautiful hotel &conference centre in fabulous riverside setting with some modern bedroom blocks. - Beautiful conference-centre-based hotel by riverside; pleasant short walk to town centre shops and public transport but more ideal if arriving by car. Spacious communal areas and outside gardens. Bedrooms in modern block separated from main period buildings by exposed short outside wall; these bedrooms currently rather bland and characterless with minimal facilities (for such a generally upmarket hotel).
- David (10/5): Full of character -- totally tranquil - Stunning location and very helpful staff. Dinner menu a bit basic but delicious. Very accomodating about an early dinner, so we could get to the theatre on time
- Rachel (10/5): Tranquil, historic and well-suited to the single traveller who wants good value without the blandness of chain hotels. - Amazing welcome and service. Delicious breakfast, made to order. Historic property in an ideal location. Beautiful grounds.
- Valentina (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): It was good - Beautiful buildings and grounds, very close to town centre Breakfast was OK but probably only 2 or 3 star. Only instant coffee and basic tea in rooms
- Bogdan (9/5): -
- Guest (5/5): -
- Whitcher (3/5): -
- Priscilla (8/5): Very pleasant - Comfortable very friendly staff lovely view of the river Coffee was tepid but staff helpful and made some
More
- Diane (10/5): Excellent accommodation in central Abingdon - Lovely location, settings, and excellent service. Will be back... Nothing!
- Lorraine (9/5): - Staff were very welcoming and polite and friendly throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble.
- Gareth (9/5): Very good - Location, friendliness of staff
- Andrew (5/5): Problems with no hot water and unable to shower in room spoilt stay - Property location was good
Breakfast good
Staff on Sunday morning dealt with ours issues well didn’t see the manager but she handled the situation well Reception cramped, and welcome on arrival not very friendly especially as we had had a long and tiring journey and needed to get ready for a funeral
- Malcolm (6/5): Overall, we enjoyed our short stay at The Cosenors. The area is very quiet. - Most of the staff were really professional and helpful. The cooked breakfast was really good When we first arrived (a little later than expected) the person on reception was not aware of our arrival, nor the fact I had booked two rooms for our stay. When check-in had been completed, we were passed two room keys and shown where the rooms were. They were really, really small! After compaint, the staff quickly offered an alternative, which we accepted.
- John G Francis (8/5): - Nice location. Good value, pleasant staff. If the weather is good, they should open up the terrace for breakfast.
- diane (10/5): Excellent stay in a lovely place. - Fabulous view onto river. Lovely bright and airy room. Great breakfast. Good parking availability. Staff very helpful. Nothing I would change.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Everything was perfect ❤️❤️❤️ - Everything.
We had a river view in room 66. Very nice room. Quiet & comfortable.
Breakfast was great and relaxed.
Our daughter got married here , so that’s why we came back 😊
It’s the best place to stay we think There was nothing to dislike 😊
- Gianluca (7/5): -
- Luis (10/5): -
- Josh Kubale (6/5): Perfectly ok for a single night's stay. - The hotel is in a fantastic location and within walking distance of all the things we wanted to do. The grounds are quiet and very pretty. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place was generally clean. The room was quite small and the walls were quite thin. Whilst clean, the place felt quite tired and our room was off in a modern part of the building which was much less attractive than the main building. I also couldn't get the WiFi to work, but my partner didn't have the same problems.
- Mary (7/5): pleasant - It was so good to stay at the location of the party I was attending. Cooked breakfast a little fresher perhaps but I arrived quite late for breakfast.
- Adele (8/5): - location was great, grounds very pretty, reception lady very nice. matress too soft, both of us didn't sleep well at all.
We missed out on the monday morning breakfast as service stopped at 9am, where as Sat & sunday its till 10am, I think it should be the same and put a reminder notice in the rooms to remind you of this.
Another shelf in shower room woukd help for your toiletries had to us the floor to put our deodorant on, also another towel hook would help.
You have you use a cup to fill the kettle with water, as sink small.
would be nice to provide a tea towel & cleaning scourer as when staying more than one night you have to clean your cups & nothing to clean with. Bar only takes card unless you have the exact right change as does not give change, this is awkward for people who like to pay cash.
- Katie (9/5): Convenient and comfortable - Excellent location, although a bit hard to find initially - some directions from the hotel would have been useful. I had to ring to check where it was and from the response it was obvious that they'd had the same questions from other people. Very quiet and in walking distance of all the town amenities, restaurants etc, and buses. It felt a little bit impersonal and bland, which for the style of the hotel in such a characterful building seemed a shame.
