Guest Reviews
- Maureen (3/5): Not good. - Nothing. It was not clean. It was not comfortable. In fact there was nothing I liked about this property.
- Amanda (10/5): - The cottage is comfortable and surprisingly spacious, very quirky layout but plenty big enough for five adults and two dogs. It's well equipped. And the beds were clean and comfortable.
The cottage is located in a fairly busy village, the pub next door and the bakery/cafe the other side was very busy, the pub had live music playing Saturday night. We were lucky to park outside the cottage most of the time.. The location was perfect to explore the Peak District There were a few small areas where the cleaning service had let the owner down.
It would have been nice to have the basics, tea, coffee sugar and milk there on arrival.
- Alan (6/5): -
- Ruth (10/5): A lovely cottage , in a great location , and perfect for a get away - Very spacious , large rooms , great location Nothing
- Claire (9/5): Lovely stay in the White Peak - Amazing location and surprisingly cosy but spacious for an old cottage. Well equipped with modern appliances and an excellent base for exploring the White Peak. Pub next door one side and artisan bakery the other - what more could you need! Didn't cause us an issue, but something to be aware of for larger parties or less mobile guests only 1 toilet upstairs.
- Rachel (6/5): A pleasant and spacious home for a large family gathering - Plenty of space for a big family or group to come together whilst also enjoying their own space. Lots of different rooms and a large kitchen. We felt the property could have been better equipped for a family with babies - while there were stair gates they didn’t seem to connect to the stairs and the stairs up to the living area were quite steep and uneven. There was also no high chair (which we had checked with the host beforehand). Unfortunately we had an issue with the oven but the host was super responsive about this although there was nothing that could be done in the end - if we had been staying longer or had been cooking our meals this would have been an issue. Oven gloves and more tea towels would have been great also!
- Julie (10/5): Fabulous cosy cottage in great location. Loved it. - Great cottage with everything you would need for a fabulous stay. It was a family weekend away (all adults) for my birthday. All the bedrooms were spacious and there was plenty of room so we didn’t feel like we were on top of each other. Location was excellent, great cafe next door (try their sourdough bread if you visit), pubs to eat in and stunning walks on the doorstep, If I had to find anything, it would be the parking. We had to park quite a way down the road and it was pouring down with rain but wasn’t really a massive issue and didn’t detract from the great weekend. There was a parking pace outside but someone was parked in it all weekend.

- Cashman (7/5): Nice cottage but scruffy and needs some attention and a good deep clean. - Great location
Beautiful old listed cottage
Good sized property
Could sleep 10 (2 extra beds in lounge and snug)
3 pubs in village
Bulls Head next door serves GREAT food
Landlady extremely welcoming
Great quiz night on Thursday too
Bakery next door
Cake shop over the road
Peak feast 200yds up hill (deli cum bakery)
Decent shop few doors away
Riverside walk & wild swimming spot only a short walk away.
30 min drive from Mam Tor
Druid caves 5 mins drive away
Bus stops in village
Pretty much everything is within 30 min drive Bathroom door broken doesn’t even latch closed, let alone lock so no privacy.
Microwave turns off midway through and stays off.
Broken drawers in 2nd bedroom upstairs.
Shower tile grouting orange & mouldy.
Daybed upstairs in snug unmade, scruffy & stained
Log burner in downstairs bedroom full of tools & unusable.
Downstairs lounge un-heated and therefore unusable as too cold. Electric log burner doesn’t heat, faulty element so glows only. No radiator in this room.
Tumble dryer works briefly then turns off, despite water reservoir being emptied and fluff filter cleaned.
TV in snug upstairs had a broken HDMi cable attached so had to be fixed by us before it could be used
Back doormat so threadbare it’s useless and muddy wet boots trampled on floor
No mirror in either upstairs bedrooms
Can be noisy as cottage is next door to (& attached to) The bulls head pub.
Throw on master bedroom was unwashed and had a suspicious brown mark on it
Back yard quite scruffy
- Adele (7/5): Had a lovely stay, cottage in great location, ideal for local walks and venturing into beautiful nearby Bakewell - Very quirky cottage with lots of original features. Extremely comfortable beds. There was nothing that we didn’t like. It suited us. One thing that would improve the cottage would be additional toilet facility downstairs. The bedrooms and bathrooms are of very high standard but if I was being really picky, would say living areas looking a bit tired and in need of some tlc but that said, it did not detract from our fabulous time there
- Linas (8/5): - Location Parking, facilities
- Stephen (7/5): Good - Location particularly as next to coffee shop and pub.
Nice stone cottage Not clear that Tv lounge was upstairs.
- Tracey (9/5): Had a wonderful weekend. Thank you Nikki❤️ - Fabulous location. Very comfortable home from home. Great value for money Oven was poor and took ages to heat up and cook. One of the oven doors is broken. Some of the oven dishes weren’t as clean as they could be.
- Ian (9/5): Very enjoyavle - Good and beautiful A hairdryer would have been useful (couldn’t find one in the cottage)
- Stuart (8/5): Very good - Nice old cottage in a lovely little village a short drive from Bakewell.
The house looked tiny from the outside but was tardis-like.once inside with three double bedrooms, a large sitting room upstairs (with wood burning stove) and a kitchen/diner, plus an extra dining room. (Have some kindling and wood with you if you plan to use the fire on your first day).
The layout of the house was quite unusual but such quirks are to be expected in an old property and just add to the ambience.
Youlgreave is not one of the tourist hotspots, so it is quite peaceful, but it is close enough to them that you have easy access and there's a bus service to Bakewell and Matlock.
There's a great cafe/bakery on one side of the house (limited opening days) and a decent pint to be had on the other at the Bull's Head.
Youlgreave manages to house three pubs in total, along with three bakeries and a village shop. What more do you need?
There are nice walks along the river and even some 'wild' swimming can be had. Not for us in February, but there were some hardy souls taking to the water!
- Sam (9/5): Superb -
- Fran (8/5): Great walks on the doorstep and everything you could need at the property - Good location in a lovely peaks village
Spacious property with everything you could need for cooking in the kitchen
Comfy beds and well appointed bathroom
- Emily (10/5): A gorgeous hideaway in Peaks in a wonderful location. - The cottage is beautiful. A cosy little getaway in the middle of the Peaks. The location was excellent between a pub and a bakery. Gorgeous walks throughout Youlgreave. The beds were incredibly comfy and the cottage was well stocked. Nothing.
- Claire (8/5): Peaceful cottage in good location for Peak District holiday, close to pub and shop, not great for those with young kids - The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms were lovely. The upstairs living room is very cosy with a wood burning stove. The windows could do with some light curtains to allow the sunshine in whilst retaining privacy. The bathroom needs opaque glass so that you don't need to have the blinds closed all the time for privacy.
There are two separate sets of stairs but only one bathroom. So although the upstairs living room (where the TV is located) is very comfortable, you have to go down the stairs, across the hall then up two half sets of stairs to go to the bathroom. I'd definitely consider this if you have young children or if you have mobility issues.
- Sarahjane (9/5): Peaceful - Lovely location, beautiful spacious property
Definitely would come back Dishwasher wasn’t working
- Simon (10/5): Pommie Perfection - Lovely big cottage, beautifully decorated with exceptionally comfy beds. Walks, pubs and shops literally minutes from the front door (seconds, in the case of the fab bakery next door!).
Give the hordes of Bakewell tourists a miss and stay here in gorgeous Youlgreave instead 😊 There's nothing not to like!
- Rita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (7/5): Good - Great location. Spacious cottage. Well equipped kitchen. Living room upstairs and downstairs were very cold.
Would have benefitted from more than 1 toilet.
- Louise (9/5): Superb - Spacious cottage with good sized rooms, very comfortable Cleaning could be more thorough in the kitchen though rest of the house is fine
- Alison (9/5): Lovely cottage in great location. - Mattress in main bedroom rather unforgiving. A mattress topper would be improvement.
- Melanie (10/5): Amazing - The cottage was cosy but spacious with great walks nearby. 3 amazing pubs within walking distance with excellent food as well as a village shop for all your needs. Fantastic stay. We probably would have liked another WC or shower room as we were a family of 6 but it wasn’t a problem.
- Penny (8/5): Lovely spacious cottage - Great cottage in a wonderful location Could have done with another bathroom - or toilet.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Home away from home - Cosy and clean with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Home away from home Everything was perfect.
Well equipped kitchen, lovely and warm throughout. Great pub food a short stroll away.
- Karen (9/5): Great cottage..lovely location in attractive village - Great cottage, 13 seconds from the pub.
Had a very well equipped kitchen and very roomy comfortable beds.
I would happily recommend this cottage. The stairs to the sitting room on first floor were steep, just mentioning this in case anyone has mobility problems, BUT there is a sitting room on the ground floor. Wouldn't stop us from returning.
- Harriet (7/5): Lovely location and we'll equipped - Beds and kitchen diner lovely and bright and airy Downstairs sitting room very dark so didn't use.
- Jamie (8/5): Very good -
- Rosie (10/5): Very comfortable, spacious cottage convenient for the village and beautiful walks. - The cottage is very spacious and comfortable. It is also right in the middle of the village with a pub next door and a cafe on the other side. Nothing
- Kim (10/5): Great stay, kids loved it, will definitely recommend - Location was great and for getting around the area Was all great
- Robin (9/5): Fantastic character cottage in great location for exploring - What a fantastic cottage this is. Everything you could possibly need is in the cottage and it has so much character. There is a great bakery next door and it is a great base to visit local attractions The only issues we found were parking outside can be difficult and the bins were overflowing when we arrived
- Edwards (10/5): Exceptional - It is a beautiful 17th century, stone built cottage in an absolutely beautiful village. There are a couple of shops, 3 pubs with in 1 min walk.
The property is well maintained and tastefully decorated. Excellent kitchen, dinning room and lounge. All 3 lovely bedrooms are doubles, one is on the ground floor if you have anyone with accessability issues it's perfect. Location wise it's very close to Bakewell, Buxton and matlock. There is a bus that serves the village that goes to all 3. We will return. Honestly, nothing. The place was perfect for our walking holiday.
- Elkerton (8/5): Large house in beautiful village - The house is amazing, so large. Great facilities. Beautiful village. Overall the house was clean, however, it could have been better
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Spacious, well equipped house in the centre of the village. Lovely bed linen, towels and comfy beds. Great to have outdoor space too. No dedicated parking. We were left just half a roll of loo paper so take supplies just in case the local shop is closed when you arrive.
- Trudi (10/5): Stunningly beautiful cottage we could not of picked a better place to stay. - The location was perfect, in the centre of the village, with access to amazing walks along the river and across the fields to other villages. The cottage had everything we wanted, it was very large and had stunning character. A new café had just opened next door and served the best coffees and breakfasts with all 3 pubs just a very short walk away all serving beautiful food. The cottage had everything you could possibly need and even supplied biscuits. toys and water bowls for the dog, really could not of asked for more, it was perfection. It is so close to other villages, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Darley Dale, Matlock everything was in easy reach. There was nothing we did not like and we look forward to returning again.
- Christopher (8/5): Almost like being at home. - Great location with plenty of good walking in the area. Just like moving in to someone's home with just about everything you could want. Weren't able to park right outside the property whi;st we were there but didn't cause any major problems. Not sure what it would be like in peak season. Found the recycling bin had been left full to overflowing.
- Graham (9/5): short break with friends - location
- Samantha (8/5): Quiet, comfortable and large character cottage with some nice walks. - Large rooms with most things that we needed and in a convenient, quiet location. The mattress in the largest bedroom was very comfortable. Also, having a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier was very useful. We never managed to find a parking space near to the property. We couldn't get the oven to work but could use the stove and microwave. Quite a lot of the cutlery, glasses and crockery weren't very clean.
- Lisa (7/5): Good -
