Guest Reviews
- Cedric (10/5): - Incredibly well maintained, comfortable and spacious layout, all amenities for washing, cooking, … Location just amazing, such incredible peace and beauty in any direction you go.
- Rodway (10/5): - The most beautiful location, maintained to a really high standard, at a reasonable price. What more could you want?
- Richard (10/5): We had a great long weekend at The Barn. - It is an immaculate converted barn in a beautiful secluded location. Nothing. It was perfect.
- Richard (10/5): Perfect weekend away. - Absolutely stunning location. The property was perfect and done to an incredibly high standard. Every little detail as spot on. Will be returning for sure
- Caroline (8/5): - A truly wonderful cottage – warm, welcoming, and full of thoughtful touches such as electric blankets, logs for the fire, and even music in the bathroom. It was spotlessly clean, spacious, and beautifully cosy. The hosts were fantastic, and we couldn’t have asked for a better base from which to explore Dartmoor. Highly recommended.
- Bryony (10/5): Stunning barn, perfect in every way - Beautiful, peaceful rural setting. Amazing dark skies perfect for stargazing. Exceptionally comfortable with everything you could wish for and a log burner to die for!. Lovely host greeted us on our arrival. Great location for exploring the area. Would love to come back. We loved it all !

- Juan (10/5): Warm and welcoming, beautifully converted barn, that is perfect to scape the madness of the city for a few days. And Dar - Everything! The place is exceptional and the attention to detail and care can be appreciated everywhere. The Fay’s place has the warmth and honest welcoming feel that 5 star hotels can only aspire to. Not much. Difficult to fault at any level. For our liking the bed was a bit soft, but that’s just personal preference.
- Ursula Sassnowski (10/5): Eine der besten Unterkünfte, die wir je hatten! - Alles. Diese Unterkunft ist ein kleines Juwel ab von der Hektik der Städte. Nichts. Alles war perfekt.
- Laurie (10/5): An absolutely outstanding place in every way. Just lovely. - What a fantastic stay at Collytown Barton Farm.
First impressions were good, with plenty of lovely warm friendly contact with Fay pre-arrival. Instructions for finding, getting in and using the place were excellent; time of arrival was very relaxed and took the pressure off our motorway journey in a holiday week.
The Barn is completely self-contained, but Fay popped round after we'd got comfortable to make sure we were happy with everything. We absolutely were! The place is BEAUTIFULLY converted: we came home ambitious to upgrade our home to the same standard! Everything you could need is provided, and the barn is so comfortable. We desperately needed some R&R: this is the place.
You will not believe the peace and quiet. And - don't laugh - the stars are amazing! Coming from the southeast I haven't seen stars like that since I was a kid. If you have children, there are lots of animals to interact with on the farm, and Fay has good advice about what to do and where to explore.
Now you should know that Devon's lanes are narrow, and the one that leads to the farm is no exception. If you're a townie who's scared stiff of getting your Range Rover scratched, or if you're frightened of reverse gear, then this is probably not for you. (But if you're like that, what are you doing in Devon anyway?!) If you're a tolerably competent driver, however, you'll love the gorgeous up and down lanes. And the seclusion... wow!
If you don't want to self-cater, there are lots of brilliant pubs nearby. We tried the Drake Manor and the Skylark: both were welcoming and lovely. But the Who'd Have Thought It - despite its tiresome name - was unbelievably good. Don't miss it: it's just 15 minutes away.
Fay provided a wonderful welcome package, most outstanding in which were some of her own chickens' eggs - absolutely delicious and with the orangiest yolks. Mmmm... We bought some to bring home too.
- Fabiola (10/5): - Ein wunderbarer Ort zum Entspannen – traumhafte Umgebung, sehr liebevoll eingerichtete Unterkunft und eine herzliche Gastgeberin, bei der wir uns rundum wohlgefühlt haben.
- Tessa (10/5): A piece of Devon Heaven - Can't find the superlatives to praise The Barn enough. It is in the most beautiful setting. The decor and facilities are so well thought out and you can tell a lot of love and hard work has gone into its creation. The owner Fay is just the warmest host ever. It is truly exceptional !
- Linda (10/5): Wonderful setting, wonderful barn , wonderful host - Everything was perfect, the barn was stunning with premium quality appliances and bedding
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional - A lovely converted barn down a tarmac'd country lane. Super peaceful and pleasant to stay at! Nothing!
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location
- Rob (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay. The accommodation is perfect and in a beautiful location. We plan to return! Nothing.
- Paul (8/5): Superb barn conversion - so comfortable and a relaxing place to stay...especially for EV owners - Great cottage, beautifully specified, equipped and maintained. well managed, friendly welcome, nice starter provisions. Owner went out of her way to get us a cafetiere. Really handy to have type 2 EV charger which meant we could drive our Zoe around and back home without worrying about range :-) Minor niggles but nothing worth mentioning in what was a lovely place to stay
- Lianne (10/5): Perfect! Loved everything the barn had to offer! - Stunning location, beautifully decorated, cosy, warm and well equipped. Was so homely, we really were able to relax and unwind. The host was friendly and helpful. Little touches like milk, freshly laid eggs, crisps, cookies and juice, were lovely! Will definitely be returning next time we need to escape for some tranquility! Was great being able to go on a long walk straight from the barn! All fabulous!
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - Cottage was spotless and just felt like home straight away. Family absolutely loved it and we can't wait to return. Leaving
- Paul (8/5): Great location, lovely property, good memories - Location was great, property was separate and private, fire was a great feature and kitchen was well equipped Mattress wasn’t comfortable to us (but could well be to others), there were a lot of flies that would hover and then drop dead including into kitchen worktops and floor, bath/shower was slightly troubling as you needed to step into it at a height which was slightly above the comfortable.
- Pete (10/5): Simply the Best - This is the PERFECT place. Absolutely spotlessly clean. Superb open plan living space with log burner and loads of seasoned wood. Magnificent location if you like idyllic farmhouses, meeting friendly pigs and sheep and the most welcoming, helpful host. Simply senational. We would happily have moved in. can't wait to be back. And remote controlled candles in spotless, sumptuous bathroom... you have to live it. Leaving.
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely location, excellent facilities, easy communication with the host. Not a lot!
- Tamsin (10/5): Couldn't have asked for anything more - it was even sunny! - Respectfully and beautifully converted barn. Fay was really helpful when the weather tripped the electricity supply. Lots of little extra details had been thought of to make our stay comfortable. Loved the pigs, chickens, sheep and the orchard. Nothing
- Stever (9/5): Clean, quiet, well-equipped - Beautiful property in an idyllic, quiet location. Well-appointed, and the host was very good. EV charging point was an important factor in our decision to stay here. It was all very good. We would like to have had more surfaces in the bathroom to place toothbrushes / products, etc. There was no hand-held shower attachment, nor a full-length mirror, but these are minor quibbles. We would stay here again.
- Davide (10/5): Despite the weather we had a wonderful stay at the Barn. Stunning location and lovely host! - We loved absolutely everything. Welcoming and lovely host, amazing location and property, full of character, tidy and clean.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy, comfortable and small touches eg milk in the fridge exceeded expectations
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): Fantastic base for exploring Dartmoor - Beautiful cosy barn with all modern facilities. Super warm, dual aspect central wood burning stove and central heating.Helpful but unobtrusive host on hand.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeanette (9/5): Very enjoyable in a peaceful location with excellent facilities -
- Melanie (10/5): Wonderful cottage in the country - We had a wonderful stay at the cottage which is comfortable, cosy and peaceful. The cottage is surrounded by nature and once in a while you will meet a new furry friend. It is offering everything one needs to stay longer.
Apart from that, the owner is very kind and helpful. That we already had to leave.
- Julian (10/5): Perfect location and superb barn conversion - High quality barn conversion with all you need inside. Fay, the owner, is very friendly and approachable.. Nothing to report
- Richard (10/5): The Barn is simply Perfect - A quite exceptional property and hostess and would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this beautiful accommodation. There was nothing we didn’t like
- Lee (10/5): This place is a must if you have an EV. - Perfectly located to explore Dartmoor, Cornwall, and the surrounding areas. EV charging is non existent in this part of the world so the home charging point was the reason I chose Collytown barn to stay. The pigs were great fun to feed in the morning. The sheep are very friendly. The wood burner was magnificent on the chilly nights I stayed. Beds were comfy. And the barn is stunning. Nothing - it was perfect. I'll be coming back.
- Smart (10/5): A super few days at The Barn - The Barn was beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. There were unlimited logs to use on the log burner and electric blankets on each bed. The welcome hamper was much appreciated, and the single bed had pink unicorn bedding for our 3 year old grand daughter, which she loved. There was nothing we didn't like. The host made huge efforts to ensure our stay was good.
- Russell (10/5): Exceptional -
