Guest Reviews
- Bea (8/5): -
- Sian (9/5): Comfortable stay in lovely town. - Comfortable stay for 5 adults , lovely touch to have nibbles and a bottle of wine and milk on arrival. It was rather cold and difficult to get the heating to work as the control was not working. This was remedied after 24hrs.
It might be worth mentioning about the steep stairs from an access perspective.
- Melanie (8/5): -
- Karol (10/5): Fab stay in Bakewell - Great location with easy walking into Bakewell. Well equipped kitchen, and comfortable and clean property.
Even the parking was super, and we managed to squeeze even two cars into the designated space without blocking neighbours.
- Amykaten (9/5): - Gorgeous property in an excellent location, close to the village of Bakewell and lovely countryside. The hosts left cake and prosecco as it was a special occasion, which was much appreciated!
- Eileen (7/5): After the initial evening we had a very enjoyable weekend and the cottage was gorgeous . - Location - short walk into lovely Bakewell town.
Beautifully decorated stone cottage and Cody and warm once the central heating was switched on. Arrived at 4pm to a bitterly cold house - less than 10 degrees. Took until the following day to get up to a comfortable temperature once we had discovered how to set the heating to manual! There were no logs to light the fire - they were delivered the following morning.
- Lynne (10/5): Perfect cottage to stay in with friends and family. - Fantastic cottage in a great location! Everything was perfect.
- Kristina (9/5): -
- Emma (10/5): A perfect stay in a fabulous cottage - Fabulous location, only a few minutes into town, and brilliant little parking space (albeit I was useless at manoeuvring my car so reversed out).
Lovely decor, fabulous bathrooms, welcome
hamper was just amazing, there was nothing not to like. Had the wood burner lit each night too, proper cosy. Nothing, it was brilliant!!! And we would stay again and again.
- Janice (6/5): Bakewell cottage - Lovely location, quaint cottage ..lovely welcome package! Cold when we arrived, only 1 match to light burner and not enough logs for even 1 evening!
No bin bags and not enough toilet for the 3 evenings we were there!
- Claire (10/5): Superb weekend with family in a fantastic property, we will return. - Lock box is the perfect option for flexible arrival. As stated by previous reviews the parking was very tight, not at all ideal. Confusing information about bins, a number or property name would add clarity over which bins to use (they disappeared during our stay). The ‘handrail’ had to be fixed during our stay (damaged by previous guests), no hindrance to us but an actual rail would be safer for older/younger guests.
- Lissa (9/5): Great location in a beautifully decorated property - Very clean and comfortable with everything you would need in the kitchen. Great location as can walk into town centre with a 10 min walk. Only draw back was the parking situation as we had to reverse into the drive each time.
- Claire (8/5): Beautiful property in a very cute town. Great locations for neighbouring towns and great pubs and restaurants. - The property was very beautiful.
Decoration and styling fantastic.
Everything required was there and more.
Walking distance to the town with lots of food options.
Great box of treats on arrival was a nice surprise. Stairs were very steep and that was difficult for my 75year old mum and not mentioned in description.
Only one shower in the en-suite, so we all had to share that bathroom.
Double bedroom 4 poster bed frame was very wobbly.
The garden was cute but again, up very steep steps so unfortunately my mother couldn’t access it as no handrails and steps are very large.
Parking space and turning circle at the back of the property was very tricky for a large 4x4 so we needed up parking on the road.
- Barbara (9/5): - Property was excellent in interior and comfort and very clean and well equipped. Cakes and drink provided by housekeeper was a lovely personal touch.
Only issue for me was the stairs which are a bit narrow and also a bit winding as you navigate at the bottom. With only a rope to help with ascent/descent, I had to take extra care myself, because my knees are not so good these days due to age. Would have preferred a proper stair rail for better stability, given that wouldn't move as you held onto it.
However all in all it was a lovely property and as it was a short distance outside of Bakewell was peacefully quiet and relaxing. Stair rope instead of rail.
Access to and from parking ok going up but not easy on descent, too tight to make a 3 point turn with larger car, so had to reverse all the way down to the main road then turn out as quickly as possible as this was on a bend, so cars coming fast in both directions.
- Nicola (9/5): Superb - Very clean, excellent facilities welcome hamper very thoughtful. very peaceful setting. Stairs in the property were quite steep and although only a short walk to town it was down hill, this wasn't a problem for most of the party but we had to drive my mum down in the car as she couldn't manage the walk. Parking is quite tricky but there is road parking nearby.
- Donna (8/5): Very good - Lovely decor and comfortable beds. Lovely location
- John (8/5): Very good - Looked like the pictures, cosy, heating stopped working and they dealt with it quickly, ten minute walk down the hill to town. Parking space was extremely tight, easier to park on the road up or down the hill.
- Dave (8/5): The cottage is comfortable and in a good location. - The keys were in a lock box by the front door so easy to find. The cottage is well equipped, very comfortable and with the log burner fired up it was very cosy in the evening. On arrival the cottage was very cold and we did not have heating or hot water and could not find the thermostat. After speaking with someone at Finest Retreats they quickly arranged a visit by their local agent. There appeared to be an issue with the boiler that she resolved. She also advised that the heating was set to come on at 18.00.
With check-in at 16.00 surly the heating should be set to come on at check-in time at the latest and leave the remote thermostat visible and not hidden in a cupboard.
Parking is an issue and it is not clearly marked where we should park. Coming from different parts of the country we had two cars and managed to get them in but I think we were lucky due to the cottage next door being empty for the weekend.
- Lorraine (9/5): A brilliant weekend with friends - The property was fabulous. Very well designed snd with some lovely touches when we arrived. It was all decorated for Christmas with hot chocolate, marshmallows and gingerbread men on the table. The only downside was the parking as it was quite small and tight for big cars. We did manage to park on the road nearby though.
- Nicola (7/5): Good - Gorgeous property, fantastic location.
- Margaret (7/5): Style over substance - Very aesthetically pleasing
Comfy beds
Super helpful neighbour who helped re extra parking, recycling and general knowledge The fridge freezer didn’t work
The parking was a nightmare
Only really comfortable seating for 5
Not enough plates, cutlery, glasses. If a house is for 6 you need more than 6 plates etc and some had only 4/5
No large beer glasses
No coasters
No place mats to save table from hot things we used chopping boards
No welcome booklet with instructions for things like recycling etc
It would have helped to know that the ‘walkable distance’ was such a steep hill as we were there for my 83 year old mum’s birthday
- Shaun (9/5): Cozy semi close to the town centre - The property was clean and nicely decorated and about a ten minute walk down hill to the town centre. The beds were very comfortable and the shower excellent.
The host had thought of everything and had greeted us with a goody basket which was a lovely touch. All in all I really enjoyed my stay there were a couple of small issues which I have put in the what I didn’t like box but only in the interest of genuine feedback Parking was very tight in a space located around the back of the house. Access to the space was up a steep single lane which serviced a few other houses and meant reversing half way back down the hill before being able to turn around and exit back down to the main road.
The road was quite busy although the road noise was barely noticeable when inside the house. The picture showing the countryside from the patio area was actually of a hill the other side of the main road so not as peaceful as I expected.
I had been emailed several times by SISU insisting the log burner should not be used, but on arrival it was all set up with logs kindling and matches which was a bit confusing. The fridge and freezer had been turned off and a new fridge had been put in the living room area but sadly no freezer compartment. I suppose I could have contacted the agent to ask for a freezer but as I was on holiday felt it was something they should have put in automatically for a self catering accommodation.
- Helen (4/5): A great place to stay but perhaps not so good for elderly people. - The situation was perfect, easy and close walk to the town . I think we were one of the first people to stay in it so everything seemed new and gleaming. However dont think properly checked before letting. There was no electricity on when we arrived and no notes on how to turn it on. The fridge didnt work, but was subsequently replaced. The pipe from the sink in the bathroom was not correctly fitted so it leaked and we had to put a bowl under it to catch the water . We could nt look the fron door from the inside but when we raised this with the hosts we were givenb a new key which sorted this
- Peter (10/5): Came for a wedding in Bakewell, the property is well situated within a short walk to the town center. Well equipped supe - Well equipped and tastefully decorated
- Lee (9/5): Superb -
