Guest Reviews
- Cher (1/5): Definitely wouldn’t recommend in the state it in - Ideal location to the main part of Whitby Place is unsafe and disgusting. The smoke alarm doesn’t work, there are missing lightbulbs throughout the-safety issue with the stairs with the lack of lights…. Lamps in living room doesn’t work. Tv/wifi doesn’t work- just says no connection available. The upstairs bathroom is discussing- urine all I’ve the toilet, not sealed at base so soaked in wee and stinks, toilet also doesn’t flush properly . Pink bacteria in multiple places. The floor is black and hasn’t been mopped in months. All floors need a good vacuum. Carpet in living room thread bare , covered with a rug so they’re aware. No baking trays, 1 pan and multiple lids? And greeted by used dog poo bags in the drive way…. Did send multiple emails and calls, complaint (upon staff recommendation on day of leaving) to be dismissed, absolutely disappointed - will only let me upload 4 photos but there’s loads more….
- Claire (3/5): - The allocated parking space.
The closeness to town The v.steep steps, unexpected.
The broken toilet.
Generally unmaintained look, grubby, on wells, paintwork, bathroom with broken tiles, blinds that came off, bedroom blinds that needed to be blackouts really, the carpets were
smelly,the rug was dirty.
We couldn't get in as the code wasn't updated for us.2 phone calls later.
We left a day early, we couldn't wait to get home.Sorry but its true....
- DeVore-Smith (8/5): Birthday trip. - Clean, well presented. Very comfy bed. The stairs were a challenge. Ensuite toilet wouldn't flush. Unable to operate the ensuite shower.
- Ben (10/5): -
- kirti (5/5): Stay was good, but very disappointed with issues we noticed which had already been raised by guests - Liked the location, near to all the Whitby attractions The accommodation had 3 floors & this was not mentioned on the booking website. The stairs were too steep, the inconvenience of keeping having to go down to the kitchen. Ensuite bathroom toilet not flushing properly. Disappointed as all these issues have already been raised by other guests, and they still haven't been resolved. Also, just to let guests know that permit is not required for parking, as stated on the notice outside.
- Martin (7/5): - Close to town centre it was ok for one night but for money its not bad No tv wi fi rubbish
- John (8/5): - Very clean and tidy Not saying I didn't like it but spiral staircase took some getting used to . To many drinks could become a problem
- Jacqueline-Emily (1/5): -
- Chris Dunko Duncan (2/5): - The free parking and location The accommodation was tired, lacking character and love, the bed was uncomfortable and dented in the middle, the shower tiles were coming off the wall and the carpets were dirty.
- Xara (7/5): Good location, clean, but missing light bulbs - Had issue with keycode but it was sorted quickly. Easy to find. Good location. Had what we needed No light bulbs in hall leading down the stairs, very dangerous at night specially as the en suit loo, did not flush so we had to use other bathroom. Not the first property buy this company i have stayed in that have been missing light bulbs….
- DEAN (2/5): You get what you pay for, cheapest not always the best - Location Very tired, not clean enough
- Keith (3/5): Property could have been excellent, but cleanliness and broken items let it down. - Location was perfect Smoke alarm removed.
The cleanliness of the property was poor.
Shower unusable due to lifted tiles.
One toilet was inoperative... no flush and broken seat.
- Kathy (10/5): Great little cottage! - Great location and parking. Cosy and just right for 2.
. No cloths/tea towels in the kitchen.
- TrevorO (10/5): - Quaint, central, convenient Had to call for help as the emailed door code did not work. Call answered and problems solved easily
- Trundley (2/5): Disappointed but not surprised with amount paid - Location The toilet was not functioning properly, and several lights were also not working. The bed was unfortunately not clean, with visible stains, hairs, and even bugs present. There was a significant amount of dust throughout the room, and there were holes in the walls that affected the overall condition of the space. The bed itself was also quite uncomfortable. Additionally, the entry code did not work initially, which made check-in more difficult than expected.
- Karen (1/5): - Nothing, it was dirty holes in walls thick black dirt on window sills, and rotten blinds... We're do I start,we booked for two nights and left the next day.
Dog poo outside door and in parking area.
Kitchen gad a scruffy table and scuffed cupboards with grease marks round the handles. The oven was filthy inside.
The walls had numerous holes on the stair case and a hole in the lounge.
The carpets were old and ripped in the lounge and lounge door the carpet had lifted.
The shower had a smashed tile with sharp edges.
The toilet in the bathroom didn't work.
All the windows and window ledges are filthy and the blinds throughout rotten.
We asked for a refund for the second night, for ourselves and our dogs.
This has been refused as it allegedly wasn't reported straight away, despite emailing customer services the next morning with photos, stating we were going home as it was disgusting and asked for a refund.
They offer to send a cleaner the next day.
First of all it's beyond cleaning, do not book this accommodation.
Reasonable price shouldn't mean dirty.
I wish I had read the reviews 😕
Booking.com added a ten pound credit to my account, for what?
This hasn't resolved it and apart from pass my complaint on to the host would not get involved.
I'm livid, Our break was ruined.
I have never stayed anywhere so bad.
- Simon (7/5): - Property was fine for a couple of nights stay. Location was ideal for what we needed. Top floor toilet needs repairing, loose seat & cistern is faulty. The designated parking space needs a locked gate with a code. When we arrived someone from the Discovery apartments had parked there & wouldn’t move as they said they had a pass. Ended up parking at the Discovery Royal Hotel.
- Janice (3/5): - I have already sent 2 of these hoping that the owners would change the mattress and fix the broken toilet at least. Not had a reply.
- Fiona (9/5): Warm, cosy cottage, with twisty stairs. - Location was great, cottage was warm and cosy and well equipped.
Great value for money. Entry code didn't work, but one phone call and it was solved by a very helpful lady.
- Jules (10/5): - Particularly enjoyed the place and the location of most perfect
- Peter (5/5): -
- Aaron (7/5): - Cosy, comfy bed and shower was great Very tight steep stairs and anything bigger than a smart car you will struggle to park
- Denise (1/5): - Nothing Don't know if booking.com are aware but this cottage is not to your usual standards. The staircase is extremely dangerous and my husband fell down it.We ended up spending 5 hours at Scarborough Hospital and were told he is lucky to be alive.Even the Paramedics commented on how bad the staircase was.
There were other things not up to standard. The place isn't very clean, lights with bulbs missing, no tea towel in the kitchen, toilet in the ensuite bathroom didn't flush properly.Window ledges were filthy.
Can I ask if these properties have to have a health and safety certificate of some sort to be able to operate and if so do you request to see them before putting them on your website.
- barrie (5/5): Beware, and read all reviews before before booking! - Location, free parking Keyless entry, shabby decor, dirty carpet, toilet in bed ensuite not working ,no hair dryer no bulb on landing light, (dangerous),
ALLthe above have been mentioned so many times previously and not rectified,
Disappointed 😞
- Jane (5/5): Great location in need of some TLC - The location is great and an added bonus is the free car parking outside the property. The property is a converted old shop I think on three levels. The kitchen area was clean and well equipped with a table and chairs, the floor needs some attention i.e. broken chipped floor tiles. The stairs in the property are spiral and very steep. The lounge is in need of some TLC, the curtains are shabby and not hung properly, the settee has a cover which needs replacing. It just needs some homely touches i.e. softer lighting, proper rug and nice cushions. There is also a shower room and toilet on the same floor which was clean and tidy. Next floor is the bedroom, again needs some TLC all the blinds needs replacing. The en-suite has a bath and was clean and tidy although the toilet took some flushing. The carpets in the property need replacing throughout as they are well worn, torn and frayed. We got a really reasonable rate for the two days we were there, and didn’t spend a great deal of time there so it didn’t affect our stay which was good.
- Lisa (10/5): - Perfect location
- Claire (1/5): We stayed one night and left early morning loosing a night of our stay - Not clean and we reported some safety issues too Not clean , no TLC, general poor
- Jackie (8/5): Finally found my go to holiday cottage. - Excellent location. Comfy Bed, Comfy sofa, Quirky house, cosy and warm. Also right in the town. Located by the Great Goth clothes shop, the Whitby Witch and the Little Angel pub, so great for Goths. Lovely view of the Abbey from 2 windows. Clean and Tidy. Loved it. We will be back :) There was a knack to flushing the upstairs toilet and the middle floor sink was a little slow to drain but everything did work.
- Joanne (9/5): A lovely stay I will be back - Nice cozy cottage clean very central with a nice view of the abbey from the window
- Antony (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Stuart (7/5): Lovely comfortable cosy warm cottage with own parking space .Would have said it was excellent however the property needs - Very clean and cosy. Toilet seat in upstairs loo was loose.
Door plate on carpet between en-suite and bedroom loose.
Bedroom roller blinds stained due to water from badly fitted windows.
Light bulbs missing
Sitting room standard lamp flickering
Curtains in living room could be hung better.
Cover on sofa stained
Stair handrail should be fixed more securely
- Jānis (10/5): Exelent - Location. Termocontrl on rooms Too small bad
- Stephen (4/5): - Location and parking great, 2 bathrooms. The cottage seriously needs some TLC in every room and a deep clean. Glad it was for only one night!
- Jenny Ellis (5/5): Has potential to be a lovely cottage - The property was OK for our requirements, has potential to be a lovely little cottage, kitchen appliances all modern and very good. All utensils you could need are provided. Repairs to property are required, if you have any mobility issues the property will not be suitable due to tight staircase, damage to kitchen flooring, carpet tacks sticking through on stairs so indoor footwear recommended. Plug broken in shower room sink, flush broken in top floor bathroom, hot tap in bath needs attention. Mattress needs updating, extra bedding needs providing. Bedroom blinds are stained, bedroom window is very loose and bangs in the wind. Wall has previous damage in the lounge
- John (1/5): - Would just like to say that me and my partner could not stay at this apartment not even for one night, the stairs were to narrow and steep to manage my partner slipped down a couple she was to scared to try them again, too many stairs to manage, on the photographs their was no pictures about the stairs to me it is false advertising. On the pictures it looked so fresh and new but not in reality.
- Ann Marie (7/5): Disappointed - Location and parking. Libby, one of the cleaners, was such a lovely girl. I explained my hidden disability to her & she was so understanding that we would like to nominate her as employee of the month. Blue cottage really needs redecorating & upgrading inside. We paid nearly £500 for the weekend which was far too expensive for what we got. I even had to contact the office to get the bedding & towels changed.
- Lucy (5/5): Na - Reasonable price, useful to have parking. The stairs would be dangerous to elderly or kids. Spooky house lots a noises in the night someone rattling shutters.
Tv only played itv2
- Shelagh (10/5): - Private parking. Clean house. Well equipped kitchen. Close to town. We have stayed a couple of times here and will be back Doesn't apply.
- Suzanne (4/5): Needs a good clean and TLC - Parking
Good location Lack of cleanliness
Could not use main bathroom due to seat not attached to bowl and chain would not flush
Dirty blinds
Shower unclean, basin plug very dirty
2 lots of very steep stairs
- Natasha (9/5): -
- Hullah (7/5): - Area it was Dog food and dirt in living room, microwave was dirty and also had an awful smell
- Kyle (1/5): -
- megan (5/5): Good for one night however maybe not worth the price - The property location is ideal. For the price of accommodation in Whitby, you could definitely find something a bit nicer. The accommodation is very basic and dated. It has the essentials for one night however could be improved for the price customers are paying.
- Sharon (5/5): The accommodation served a purpose but would not stay again - The location and free parking Due to late information We couldn’t gain access to the property at the time stated then had issues with the door codes. The property wasn’t clean with ketchup on the coffee table in lounge & crumbs & bottle top under edge of sofa. The 3rd floor bath had a bar of used soap and shampoo spills in it. The carpet was well worn & blinds in bedroom very dirty & stained. Flooring in kitchen had some holes in. Overall could do with a deep clean
- Lyn (1/5): -
- Kerry (8/5): Lovely - Was lovely and central and clean The top toilet didn’t work
- Noel (9/5): Good pleasant - Ideal location good parking next to accommodation clean tidy Upstairs toilet didn’t flush and toilet seat not attached
- Michelle (6/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): Small quaint free parking would recommend!! - Brilliant location, nice and clean!! Loved the en-suite bathroom with a bath! Small and quaint and free parking you can’t go wrong!!! Small bits could do with looking over such as a broken window but for the type of building it’ll be costly to fix and didn’t effect our stay!! For the money I paid I would 100% go back.
- Melissa (3/5): I have stayed in better hostels! - Location, location, location!
This accommodation could be an absolute gem if cared about! Where do I start....
I much prefer writing a complimentary review than a negative one, but unfortunately on this occasion that will not be the case. Such a shame, as I love praising where I stay!
I have stayed in far nicer and CLEANER hostels.
1. The place did not smell clean and fresh.
2. Carpets were filthy and threadbare in areas. (Did not take my shoes off due to such.)
3. All flooring needs replacing, including many holes within the ground floor laminate.
4. Dishes needed washing before use as most were unclean.
5. Blinds looked like they could break and were very dirty. ?suffered from damp.
6. Stains on the towels.
7. Stains on the bedding. (I would usually strip the bedding off when leaving a location, but was concerned about what I would find.)
8. The first floor smelt like a combination of stale smoke and wet plaster.
9. The shower on the first floor was scalding, as was really stiff to alter the temperature.
10. The fire alarm was removed from the first floor. Safety no no!
11. There was no bulb on the first floor landing which someone else I have since found also commented on back in February 2025.
12. Everywhere needs some TLC and a fresh coat of paint.
13. The window pane in the living room needs replacing and its window frame looks as though it has suffered a bit of wood rot in areas.
14. The bathroom facilities - showers and sinks were unclean.
15. The loo on the second floor did not flush well and the seat was not secure.
16. The loo on the first floor needs a repair around the flushing mechanism device, though in of itself it worked fine.
17. There were many cobwebs, so if you are not a fan of spider-like critters then you may want to avoid this place.
18. Did not use the oven as it did not smell like it was cleaned in some time.
19. There were no folks, a hairdryer or microwave though they were advertised.
20. The bed pillows need replacing as they are old and flimsy. Provided no neck or lumbar support.
21. Questions were never answered.
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Location was excellent. Facilities good
- Michelle (5/5): Passable - The location and view of the abbey Windows didn’t lock anybody can climb in downstairs and no hairdryer when it stated it was
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - Had the whole place to myself for peace and quiet, and whitby town was a 5 minute walk away, pub just around the corner Seagulls making a racket at 5 in the morning but I made up for that by having a siesta in the afternoon
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lee (4/5): Disappointing - Good location, very clean, Toilet didn't flush, front room little window was all cracked stairs very narrow and dangerous couldn't work the hobs, no welcome letter/instructions
- Terry (2/5): Near to every thing - Location good there is a hill to get up down to Main Street ,but if you’re not bad at walking it’s ok.the place could do with a good clean carpet been down for years by the look of it same for the kitchen flooring.cushions in living room would not put my dog on it ,bedding and pillows that thin ,and blinds fraying.toilet on top would not flush.cleaner wants replacing.if it was tidy up would be a great little place Wasn’t very clean sad could be a great little place
- Spencer (10/5): Exceptional - This cottage is in a fantastic location near to everything. It has everything you would need, the bed was really comfy the cottage was lovely and warm the shower worked fine, great parking. The whole cottage would benefit from a deep clean, it definitely needs painting and new flooring throughout, there is still only one wine glass. The stairs are unbelievably steep mountain goat or Sherpa Tenzing comes to mind you've got to have a sense of humour and you will be fine! Would I go back YES!
- Ian (5/5): Passable - Location and free parking Staircase - unaware that there would be 2 sets of steps that were both small steep and winding no mention of this in details would not have booked if aware of this
Beds clean and comfortable.
A fresh coat of paint / new flooring in kitchen as some holes present.
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cherise (7/5): A property that has so much potential but has little tlc - Location is very central to whitby. The lush cafe just opposite serves amazing food. The private parking space is a bonus very tight though if you have a big car i struggled abit in my Hyundai i20 but i probably would of been better reversing into the space . I love the idea of the keypad and keyless entry as i panic about losing keys. The sockets in the bedroom have usb ports for incase you forget your plug. The shower pressure in bedroom ensuite is great for whitby I’ve stayed in a few places that have poor water pressure. Fresh towels provided. Washing up products provided. Small tea and coffee items provided. Its a shame as the property could be really good if it was maintained a little bit better. A good freshen up would help! The place was dusty and felt really dull. From looking at pictures i got the impression it was over 2 floors but it’s 3 floors and the stairs are very windy and steep. The kitchen floor lino is full of holes. The pictures show a microwave in the kitchen there is no microwave at this property. The living room has a smashed window with loose glass that could fall out if someone’s too heavy handed with the window. The smoke alarm is missing from the 2nd floor landing. We didn’t use the shower on the 2nd floor but the shower tray was filthy. The wifi can only be used if the tv is switched on and theres only 5 Chanel’s that work on the TV. Theres a hole in the living room wall and a rug covering a hole in the carpet. The ensuite bathroom had a weird stain around the toilet and on the bath panel. The toilet in the ensuite needs the handle to be pumped at a few times for it to flush. It just needs some tlc and it could be a fantastic little place … id recommend turning the kitchen counter into a breakfast bar and making the dining area into a little seated area with a tv to make it more cosy. Dead carpet beetle on the bedroom windowsill too that we spotted on the day we was leaving.
- Michael (4/5): Disappointing - How clean it was The stairs was very narrow and did not say in the booking as I struggled to get upstairs with my knee and the toilet upstairs in the bedroom was not very good at flushing and there was no bathroom Mat for the bedroom upstairs in the bedroom in the bedroom and was very not worth the money
- Nicola (4/5): The whole place needs refurbishing - Location, parking space Stairs are lethal, everywhere needed a good clean, in desperate need of redecoration, bed really uncomfortable, toilet on top floor wouldn’t flush and nobody got back to me about fixing, no hairdryer or microwave as detailed in booking.
- Cleveley (4/5): Great location, needs a deep clean and some TLC - Location was great and the bed was comfy. Wifi was good and the showers were good with plenty of hot water. It was cosy and warm. They were very responsive when I called to find where we needed to park and the young lady that answered the phone was great. The notifications that came from Booking.com about the parking said free parking but then went on to say we needed to pay for scratch cards? Really confused us upon arrival and we drove around for ages. There is actually a free parking space right next door which wasn't clearly labelled and even had the name of a different cottage on a sign. Why didn't the confirmation just say there was a free space right next to it?? The towels and bed linen were clean but the rest of the place is quite dirty to the point we wouldn't use the kitchen. There were hardly any glasses etc in the kitchen to drink from which has been mentioned in other reviews but they haven't rectified. They left us a single sponge to clean pots with but left an old dirty one on top of it which was black. No other cleaning products or tea towels were there. The carpets and flooring all need replacing and there are 2 VERY steep and narrow flights of curving stairs which were quite challenging with cases and taking drinks up to the living room etc.
- Iain (7/5): Good -
- Karan (1/5): Absolutely filthy got about 50 photos of how disgusting this property is not fit for humans - Nothing was absolutely filthy no pool microwave or hairdryer like said only stayed one night went home nxt morning Everything property was disgusting filthy
- Amy (4/5): Ok for one night if you’re stuck - Very tired in need of renovation. Not to an acceptable level of cleanliness, missing kitchen necessities. Broken window downstairs. Uncomfortable bed, rotting windows with mold.
- Caroline (4/5): Not good - Good location, and also the parking. Needs a good clean and carpets and lino ripping out and replacing. Also needs decorating. Oven needs cleaning as well, also grill pan looks like previous occupants left overs on it. Also tv only 3 channels on it.
- Michelle (8/5): Very good - Loved the view from lounge window of the abbey. Stairs were a little steep & small but expected for a property of its age.so.not a problem really.
- Hoaksey (8/5): Very good - Location and parking The stairs grippers sticking in my feet when walking up the stairs
- Jennifer (3/5): Dirty, tired cottage - Parking, warm, bed comfy Cottage needs a good clean, very tired looking, the window on the ground floor was broken so my husband had to find a stick to wedge it shut for our safety, toilet didn’t flush, couch filthy, holes in Lino, tack sticking out of carpet which my husband stood on,lightbulbs not working, hardly any utensils, blinds filthy, one wine glass,I washed everything before I used it, there cleaning materials all need replacing, they were filthy,
- Julie (8/5): Good location for all amenities and free parking - Good location
- Langford (1/5): Stay away - Location good The place is an absolute disgrace. . The whole place was dirty . It stunk we could not stay there and booked in to another hotel.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (1/5): Horrendous - Location and parking Place was absolutely shocking it was dirty had a bad smell carpets want ripping out absolutely disgusting stairs are a complete danger . To be honest we only stayed 1 night as it was that bad even though we paid for 2 nights shouldn't be rented in that condition
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Loved our stay.very nice spot & love the fact I could take my cockerpoo benji.
- Lynda (7/5): Enjoyable stay. - The cottage was clean, warm and the bed was comfy .Rooms over 3 floors which was quite quirky. There was no microwave or hairdryer although these were in the description/photos. No bulb in the light on the landing. Worse of all there was only one wine glass which my partner and I had to fight over. The cottage was difficult to find through the narrow one way system. It would have been very hard in the dark.
- Amanda (4/5): Very disappointing - location, perfect! - The location was fantastic. Very central for our needs. The cleanliness was appalling. I contacted the team and they were quite helpful to suggest an alternative, however, we were only there for 2 days, so the alternative was not suitable (moving to the next cottage beside us or having cleaning team come to our accommodation - which would mean having to come back and move our stuff and if it was not cleaned correctly in the first place - why would this time be different).
- Phil (3/5): Poor - Location good although there was a rave in a local fitness club until the early hours. Close to shops and the excellent Magpie Cafe. Whitby is always interesting. Accommodation search was done on booking.com with the filter set to 'pool' and booked because of it. It was only revealed after booking (or, it turned out afterwards, buried deep within one of the tabs) that the pool is 'seasonal'. Discovery claim they have no control over how booking.com displays their information, yet they are able to display on the first page where the swimming pool is located! Availability could be easily clarified here. Very disappointed as we've previously used the Discovery pool at this time of year when booking other Discovery accommodation. We had to find a spa in Scarborough instead! Booking.com also advertises this with parking - the parking space was in use on arrival. Discovery close their doors and don't answer their phones after 6 (we arrived shortly thereafter), which seems crazy given the number of properties they manage. Toilet didn't flush properly. Lack of even the most basic of dishwashing facilities like a dishcloth!
Let's be clear - this was a single night away, and was (relatively) cheap (£81). But I would still expect to get what was advertised, and it wasn't. Have contacted Discovery about this and they are pretty bullish, their solution was to suggest I get cancellation insurance next time! There won't be a next time...
Interesting, looking back on other reviews now, I can see the same complaints by others that I noticed myself (exposed carpet grips, holes in lino, broken window panes, toilet not flushing, lack of dish washing facilities etc). Discovery either don't read their reviews or don't care to do anything about them.
- Lynn (1/5): Bad - Nothing at all No fire exit stairs were ridiculois for my age at 67 frightened of falling down
9
- Alan (1/5): worst holiday ever - booked for 5 nights at the cost £580 when got there wasnt what we booked as the cottage was under maintence so they said they upgraded us what was actually a down grade in my opinion put us in the apartments which was a nitemare really loud from upsiars could here them talking and bouncing around the floor all night the bathroom stunk of sewer the pool wasnt open which was why i booked it in first place stayed 2 nights and left wont be booking again
- Craggs (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (3/5): Would not recommend - The property was dirty
Cob webs from ceiling , cotton bud and dirt under sofa
Stairs dangerous will nails sticking out, I cut my ankle, also nails sticking out under bannister, I cut my finger
Glass shattered in sitting room window
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Good location with parking everything i needed
- Paul (6/5): Good location free parking BUT - Great location and free parking for one car reasonably priced. Good info supplied prior to arrival TV only had four channels... Basically, news only and poor signal kept coming up ..rang owners who sent someone to sort ...we ended up with 3 channels and 2 of which were news. Could do with a TV in the bedroom, but if it's as good as the lounge, then no point. Accommodation desperately needs a refurbishment, carpets poor, painting and decorating poor, no washing up liquid or anything to wash your pots, etc.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracy (5/5): Property would be beautiful if it was maintained better , I would have enjoyed it if I would have felt secure. - The location is brilliant and the property is nice Kitchen window was not secure no lock, living room window panel broken. The property needs repairs doing and needs a good clean through out. Mop etc in cupboard need replacing .
- Kathryn (10/5): great place to stay - ideal location very clean and quirky nothing, was perfect
- John (1/5): not worth the money - This accomadation looked nothing like the promotional pictures it was old unkempt a steep flight of narrow stairs was not advertised and not accesible to older clients
- Anton (5/5): Met the standards if you just wanted a place to put your head down... - Location and parking The carpet needs a deep clean, cobwebs every where, walls dirty with hole marks in them. Vinyl needed a serious mopping. The drains smelled went out of my way to buy cleaning products. I would never usually leave a bad review. If it wasn't justified. Was not happy from the pictures to what we got was below par...
- Chris (5/5): Great location pity about the niggles and having to shorten our holiday. - The location is great. The parking is a bonus but tricky, It was very clean. It was nice and warm - good heating. The bathrooms are lovely. The bed is comfortable. The view of the Abbey is great. There is a local bar (see pic) that is lovely and serves great ales. The pic of the cafe is because if offers great value good food. More information on the description about the stairs that are a challenge - windy and narrow - the pics are the set up to the lounge then the set up to the bedroom. The carpet needs replacing there is a hole in the lounge room carpet. I bought a 2nd wine glass for 50p at the local charity shop as there was only one. The TV doesn't have a lot of channels and 10 versions of ITV1 - we asked for help but was told nothing could be done! There was a sign on the road to say that the street would be closed from the day we were due to leave we asked about this as soon as we arrived but nothing came back then a notice arrived through the door saying we would need to move our vehicle with no timings or contact number so we left a day early. This is an old cottage with low ceilings - didn't affect us as we are both just over 5ft but any tall person would struggle.
- Emma (2/5): Not enjoyable. - Location. Dirty, broken window, hole in wall, worn carpets and grotty furniture. The code we were given didn't work so had to call. It was pouring with rain and we were stuck out side. Had to call again as when we asked for the right code to be sent, we were sent to wrong codes. This happened twice. Grotty furniture. Stairs too steep for children or elderly. Very dangerous. Would not recommend to anyone.
- Jade (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shelagh (10/5): A perfect place to holiday in Whitby. This cottage ticks all the boxes - Perfect location, middle of town and wonderful views of Whitby Abbey! Used a door code no keys and parking right outside. Cottage was clean, comfortable and perfect for our needs. It looked good on the website but was even better when we got there! N/a
- Caz (3/5): Just ok, didn't spend any time in it so didn't matter too much, was just a little disappointed in and - Location Was run down and not very clean, needs some attention for sure
- David (3/5): Location good, never been a cottage it’s a converted shop very basic and dated ,toilet would not flush. - Location Stairs stairs and more stairs dangerous
- Gary (9/5): Great location cute cosy cottage. - Location and parking … although tight and a little difficult to get to the parking was a bonus (although I had to call in to confirm that it was included as the sign on the wall is misleading).
The place was clean and everything worked. It would have been nice if there were cleaning items such as kitchen towel and washing up liquid but we made do. Otherwise it was adequate and the location is perfect for exploring the town. Great shower and easy to work heating. The stairs are tight and steep, you need to be able and capable to use these. Definitely not advised for the elderly, people with children or people with mobility issues.
No problem for us.
- Susan (6/5): Great stay..weather good..ap - The location was excellent ..10 mins away from shops
Close to center of Whitby Stairs very narrow..not suitable for older visitors
