- John Robie (10/5): Great accommodation and price. Definitely recommendable. - The place is really close to the beach. Walking distance to restaurants. The hosts were really nice and accommodating. It feels like you are at home with the locals when staying here.

- Rosette (9/5): - We had a very pleasant stay at Duon Baler. The place itself is relaxing, and the hosts are genuinely friendly and welcoming. The kubo gives off a lovely Bali-inspired vibe—very serene and thoughtfully designed. There’s no air-conditioning, but honestly, it wasn’t necessary at all because of the natural breeze.
One of the highlights is the open platform where you can do morning stretches or yoga, which can easily be transformed into an entertainment or lounging area any time of the day. The toilet and bath are surprisingly cute and cozy, and we appreciated that basic necessities like body wash, shampoo, towels, and toilet paper were provided.
We stayed during the Christmas holidays, and Kenn was kind enough to invite us to a small dining party she was hosting. Unfortunately, we were completely exhausted from touring Aurora all day—like, no energy left at all—so we had to pass. 😅 Still, the gesture was very much appreciated.
We personally didn’t mind that the place is shared with the hosts, though I can understand how some guests might feel a bit uneasy about that setup.
Lowlights:
There’s a small area beside the kubo where Jeff and Kenn treat bamboo for their F&B projects, and nearby is a space for organic waste. While this didn’t bother us too much, it might make more “maselan” guests uncomfortable.
Since it’s a kubo designed for airflow, mosquitoes can occasionally come in. It’s best to bring bug repellent just in case. They do provide a kulambo, but we didn’t end up needing it.
Overall, we would definitely recommend Duon Baler to friends and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we return to Baler. N/A
- CRISTOBAL (4/5): Not worth the cost. - Big. Stone’s throw away from beach. Clean. There was a leak on the roof. I saw this was already mentioned by a previous guest and they’ve acknowledged but seems they never fixed. Some of my clothes got wet due to this.
Only one wall fan. Extremely hot during the day. It’s not breezy at all since the property is not beach front so the wind is not coming in.
The neighbor’s automatic water pump was next to the bedroom so you can hear water being pumped almost 24 hours (as the neighbor seems to be a big rental property with several units).
The other neighbor is a vacant lot but there’s a small tent next to it where kids and adults hang out at times. There’s no privacy because their fence has spacing that they can see through so you can’t leave the door to the bedroom open lest they see everything that you’re doing.
I booked for 2 guests but they only prepared towels for one person. I had to remind them about this.
Finally, each time I communicated with property, their first sentence is, “We’re on our way to Bali” or “we are now waiting for a flight to Bali” even after several days. Yes, I know you’re in Bali and good for you!
All in all, the property is good looking but I don’t think I’ll ever return. Sorry!
- Aaron Rufino (10/5): An instant favorite, value option in Baler - Excellent location, quiet on a weekday, right on Sabang Beach, and great value for a large space. I came in on my big motorcycle and it was friendly for it; no covered parking for it but no big deal. Sari-sari store for water and essentials was right down the road as well. No direct vehicle access to the main popular area of Sabang Beach but just a short ride if you have a motorbike. In any case it’s better to leave your vehicle at Duon and walk along the beach, takes about 8mins to get to Costa Pacifica.
The room itself was nicely appointed and comfortable. Temperature not a problem even without aircon especially in the evening. There’s a small fridge, hammock, table and chairs, and mosquito net. The electric kettle is a gooseneck kettle too so you can bring your pourover setup if you like. The little yoga/mini theatre deck is such a nice touch.
Jennie the caretaker was helpful and very responsive.
Overall a great place and awesome value for solo travelers or couples who want a big quiet space to themselves in a convenient location. Will definitely be back. No real complaints, just little things that can be improved/remedied: the open bamboo pipe shower looks cool but some people might find the water flow heavy. The toilet seat also won’t stay up anymore. And there is a tiny leak on the roof that hits the second from left column of the cubby hole storage across the bed.

- Miliok (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation has a really charming and relaxing vibe. We wanted somewhere we could chill out and unwind, and that's exactly what we got. Highlights included seeing the sunset, being near the sea, and all the friendly cats and dogs in the area. The hosts were also super friendly and helped us out, even though they weren't actually in Baler. We will definitely go back when we are in Baler!
- Sheng (10/5): Exceptional - The most amazing thing is the community here! I didn’t get to meet the hosts, but they did hook me up with some of their friends here who were not only super cute but also very helpful! The whole place is good for just surfing and chilling; I really love having the whole garden for myself haha.
It does get a bit hot around noon, but the beach is just a few steps away and you can always plunge in the water to cool off. All in all, great experience and would love to come back during swell season🤩
- Magdalena (10/5): Great value for an awesome place. Hosts are very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely stay here again. - It is very convenient to restaurants but most of all to the beach. Nothing. It was perfect for my husband and myself
- Kirill (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed in the bungalow for a week. The accommodation is in excellent condition, atmospheric and stylish, cozy inside, there is a hammock. In the yard there is a cinema and many interesting things like a guitar, a balance board, yoga mats and something else for sure) The beach is less than a minute's walk away, everything you need (shops, restaurants) is within walking distance. The hosts are just super! If necessary, they will help you with everything. I definitely recommend
- Julia (10/5): Perfect stay - The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and cozy and just had a really nice vibe because of its bright and open design, the natural materials that were used to built it and all the small details like the bamboo waterfall shower or the hammock.
The location a couple steps from the beach and the surf spot is also perfect and there are a few great restaurant options in walking distance.
That all said, what really stood out and made our stay unforgettable, were the amazing hosts Ken & Jeff, who were so welcoming right from the beginning, helped us with everything we needed and made this truly feel like staying with friends!
- Bart (10/5): Excellent warm atmosphere with the hosts and surfing community and very healthy food is shared, always opportunity for a - The combination of a beautiful hand build sustainable cottage with nice little decorations. The landlord and landlady couple are very warm and talkative. They are involved in the surfing scene in Baler as well. The thing I did not like is that I had to leave at some point.
- Maria (10/5): "Home Away from Home" - 100/10!
As a person who loves to be in a serene kind of place, this place is just a perfect spot. To put it simply, it's a home away from home! Let me break down the good things for you:
• Owner - Friendly, actually more like a family! Really nice and warm, I really want to thank them with my heart for all the efforts they have put up since before we arrived and up to the last second of our leaving. You can easily reach them anytime by message or just heading over to their hut when they are around. I would have loved to try your coffee and go surfing with you guys if we could only stay for a bit more, but I'll make sure to do it as soon as we can visit again! Thank you for the complimentary extensions! ♥️
• Location - perfect spot! I love how it's not completely in front of the beach, since it's December and it was just an-after-stormy-season, much safer and the beach was just a few steps away once you step out of the fence, couldn't ask for more!
• Property - I just love how the description is exactly as what you will see and experience. Sustainability was definitely in their mind from the materials they've used up to the amenities that they got for you! Who wouldn't love a sliding door and a secret pin/passcode lock? It's the sustainability without compromising the great features of the place!
• Amenities - Can I just say that I really loved that minty body wash??? I would usually use my own soap even though there's a provided soap in a stay, but this one, I just really wanted to use every drop during my stay, haha! They also got a shampoo as well. Nice and clean towels ✅ and really cool bamboo shower! Also has a 'duyan' inside your hut 🫰🏽 Everything is just aesthetically pleasing ♥️ And the blanket, it's the blanket that I've always wanted! Not a duvet or comforter, but it's a woven kind of a malong-like blanket, not sure what it's called but it's heavy enough to keep you really warmed up. Cons: If you are looking for heater, there's none here, though it was fine for us. If the weather is real good, probably around summer time, and you are looking for an overlooking beach, or maybe a pool? This may not be your best choice.
P.S. there's really nothing that I didn't like, not sponsored btw, but just to be fair, here's what I can share to you 🙂
