Guest Reviews
- Ian (8/5): Fabulous value luxury self catering cottage - Comfortable, clean in lovely grounds and great location A little warm overnight.
- Emma (9/5): Lovely stay on the banks of Loch Ness - Beautiful location right on the shore of Loch Ness. Two minute walk to the centre of Fort Augustus. Comfortable and well equipped cottage with everything you could ever need. Swimming pool and tennis courts, lounge with pool and snooker table. We were met and given a guided tour of the property when we arrived. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Only downside was there wasn't really any nice places to eat nearby. We ended up shopping in Fort William and cooking in our cottage.
- Francois (10/5): - Le cadre est extraordinaire les cottages sont confortables et bien aménagés. Séjour très agréable.
- robert (10/5): Picturesque comfort quiet location, sounds of birds - Spacious comfortable location, next to river, friendly ducks and pheasant and rabbits Couldn’t open the patio doors as were stuck and you could see where someone else pried open
- Jamie (10/5): -
- Nicole (9/5): Schöner und bequemer Platz für Ausflüge in die Highlands - Geräumiges Haus/Cottage 8 direkt am Loch Ness. Alles vorhanden, was man braucht. Aber die Abbey schlägt alles. So schön!
- Michele James (8/5): Lovely accomodation however the hosts need to work on a couple of areas to make guests feel welcome - We are working in the area and I organised for our business owner and my colleague to stay at this property for 3 nights. On the way to the property he was contacted twice to confirm exactly what time he was arriving. I had already confirmed this during the day. I felt this was a bit much to be asked regularly and on 3 occassions.
When they arrived the host told our business owner that he could unload the car at the property however afterwards he had to move our car to the "service yard" with all the other service vehicles. They were not allowed to park in the guests carpark because our vehicle was branded. We are paying customers and found this insulting. Why are we being treated differently from other guests? Furthermore, when they observed the guests' car park, it had several commercial vans in it.
On the day of departure there was some confusion. The departure instructions were to drop the keys off. No further information. The hosts however came to speak to my colleagues and instructed them to empty the bins and ensure everything was recycled etc. This had not been factored into their timescales.

- Scott (10/5): Would definitely stay at Abbey cottages again, clean and comfortable - The property was in a great location, 3 minutes walk into Fort Augustus to shops , bars/ restaurants and other amenities . Also highly recommend Rib boat trip down Loch Ness it’s great 👍
- Collin (10/5): - Everything
- joanne (8/5): - Fabulous location. Close to amenities and stunning views of Loch Ness and walking routes. No enclosed garden for the dog.
Door very hard to lock even after someone had been to look at it.
Bit of a trek to the bins and they are locked so need a code.
- Catherine (10/5): Family break in our favorite village. - Very clean and well appointed. Lovely welcome items including milk, biscuits and wine. Great location, close to local amenities. Log burner great for cold evenings. Lots of room for 3 adults. Left a bag behind and the really friendly and helpful staff arranged to have it returned. Noisy floorboards upstairs. Hole in oven glove, resulting in slightly burnt finger.
- Booth (10/5): - Location and good quality accommodation Nothing
- Nathalie (10/5): - Tout était top
L aménagement,la vue et le plaisir de voir des animaux autour de notre cottage
- Glyniss (8/5): Unique setting - Lovely size had everything we needed for the two days, the location was stunning the Loch is literally just behind the property. You are able to use the Clubs facilities which was a nice touch, can’t comment on the pool as the times available were no use to us with it closing at 6pm The sofa and tub chairs in the living room are well worn and uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time, the same with the double bed the pillows need replacing as they are flat and lumpy which then didn’t aid for a decent nights sleep. The taps in the main bathroom are installed incorrectly hot is actually cold and cold is hot - it took us a while to figure out why the shower over the bath wasn’t getting hot … finally having to separate and then drive your rubbish to the communal bins which were padlocked with a lock ive not come across before even with the code entered couldn’t un do so had to dump the bags on top, nothing major just slightly annoying for the cost of the property..
- Dana (10/5): - Location is outstanding!
- Jason (8/5): Excellent stay in a lovely cottage, would highly recommend. - Great communications from Jo and was met when arrived on site, provided a thorough brief on the site, facilities. The original cottage was changed due to a failing boiler to another cottage. The cottage was lovely with everything you would expect for a 4 day stay, however, most of the blinds are broken and the radio was broken.
- Anna (10/5): -
- marc (10/5): Trames beau cottage au bord du loch Ness - Le cottage, les équipements, la situation géographique au bord du loch, la piscine et le salon de l’abbaye
- Shellie (9/5): Great place to stay to explore the highlands - Location was fantastic
Swimming pool
Well equipped cottage Pillows and mattress on double bed wasn't amazing
- Kirsty (10/5): Comfortable stay in fabulous location and surroundings - Fabulous location, very comfortable bed, pool facilities Kitchen equipment a bit thin- no scissors, a grater, sieve, salad spinner. Would expect these things in property of otherwise high standard
- marta (9/5): - Very
- Asha (10/5): -
- Katherine (8/5): Beautiful location would love to stay again - Great location and comfortable and warm and beautiful surroundings and comfortable beds and large bath The shower pressure upstairs wasn’t very strong and there was not a lot of boiling water from it if the heating was on too long which was needed as -7 but otherwise downstairs shower was very good and hot and heating worked very well
- Neil (8/5): -
- Alejandro (10/5): Ubicación, spectacular. - Ubicación y tranquilidad Habían restos de otros clientes, debajo del sofá y debajo de la mesa, el servicio de limpieza no es muy exhaustivo.
- Harpreet (7/5): Nice place but poor Service and Unprofessional Management - The property itself is lovely, but the experience was let down entirely by the management company.
The location is beautiful, the service fell far below basic hospitality standards. They would benefit greatly from training in communication, professionalism, and customer care. From the moment we arrived, Fernando was abrupt and unhelpful. After calling the number that had been messaging us about our arrival, he spoke to us as though we should already know the procedures. When we found him outside the main entrance, he didn’t greet us and gave rushed, unclear instructions. Despite the property being advertised as dog-friendly, he told me I couldn’t bring my dog (even carried) inside the main building and that it had to stay in the car. Overall, his attitude from the start made us feel like an inconvenience.
When we reached the cottage, it was not the one we believed we had booked. Rather than checking availability or explaining the situation, Fernando simply told us to “speak to Booking.com,” even though we only wanted to know whether the cottage pictured in our reservation was available after a 12-hour drive from London.
We asked to speak to someone in charge and were met by Elena, who focused more on proving that we had booked the wrong cottage than on helping resolve the issue. I showed her that the cottage numbers she sees in her system do not appear on the customer-facing Booking.com listing—something Booking.com later confirmed. Instead of helping us quickly resolve a simple mix-up, she made us feel as though we were being difficult. Eventually, we were moved to the correct cottage, but only after unnecessary resistance.
The next morning, things got worse. I received an invoice from Elena for payment, even though I had already paid through Booking.com. She had also marked us as a “no show,” which would have caused me to lose the money I’d paid and be charged again. Booking.com confirmed this was incorrect and that she could have simply updated them about the cottage change. It also felt like an attempt to redirect the booking away from Booking.com to avoid a review.
Communication remained poor. Even a simple question about where to get more firewood took over an hour and conflicting answers, by which time nearby shops were closed.
- Carsten (9/5): -
- Tanja (10/5): -
- Natalie (10/5): - Home from home, everything you need and a fabulous location.
- Caroline (8/5): Wonderful Highland Getaway - The cottage was clean, warm and welcoming.
A great size for the four of us and a perfect central location in Fort Augustus and as a base for exploring the Highlands.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the Abbey was an amazing place, our children loved the swimming pool especially. There wasn’t much private outside space / view of the loch / river, though I think there are certain cottages that do have this. It didn’t ruin our holiday, it just would have been a nice extra.
We did also have an issue with the heating, though the staff (who were all excellent) did respond so quickly and advised us what to do when it went off.
My only other negative point was that the beds weren’t very comfortable- this may just be a personal preference, they were just very firm.
- Nabeila (10/5): -
- Iris (9/5): A wonderful and luxury Place - Wonderful, cozy cottage with a breathtaking surrounding It was Perfect
- Finbarr (10/5): -
- ivan (10/5): Soggiorno molto bello - Struttura molto bella, pulita, ricca di servizi e ottimamente posizionata
- Trévor (9/5): - Very relaxing location by the shores of the Loch Ness. Excellent base to explore the Highlands outdoors from Gym needs refurbishing. Most of the machines were very tired.

Merci Booking....
- Lisa (10/5): Amazing facilities in an idyllic setting. The apartment had everything we needed, - The extra facilities on the premises were a pleasant surprise. We were able to use the pool, sauna and steam room as well as the large chess set. The apartment was nice and peaceful with an outdoor seating area facing a little stream with loads of rabbits and birds. Very idyllic! The booking system for the pool was over complex. Could do with simplifying the process and a more intuitive website.
- Alastair (8/5): Very good -
- John (6/5): Disapointing , had high hopes for this premium stay. - Its location in Fort Augustus, ideally located to walk to all the attractions , shops and pubs etc Hard bed, I know everyone likes different levels of comfort , but this would have been ok if recovering from a bad back maybe.
We couldn’t really use the seating outside our cottage as we expected to do, we anticipated enjoying the beautiful grounds and surrounding whilst having a glass of wine or two, but the area infront of our cottage resembled a motorway service station with all the commercial vehicles.
There was work being undertaken at the main building so we had 3 Ford Rangers and a Citroen bellingo parked outside, the 2 occupants of the Citroen spent most of the evening wandering about on mobile phones until 10pm
Not what you wished for when I had taken my wife away for a birthday surprise.
And the interior was furnished to a good standard, just a shame no one got round to finish grouting the tiles in the kitchen area or fixing the socket correctly.
- Tom (9/5): Abbey cottage - communication and checking in was brilliant, Fernando gave us a tour of the facilities and the cottage and made us feel welcome.
The milk and bottle of wine in the fridge was a lovely touch. the facilitys and surrounding propertys is shared with other hotels and residents
- David (9/5): Great location - We have been to Fort Augustas 3 times and this is the best accommodation yet. Plenty of room and lovely surroundings. It was all very good.
- Jamund (10/5): Great jumping off point for several days of family highland adventures - Stunning views of Loch Ness and the river. Surrounded by nature including a warren of bunnies. Beautiful architecture and fascinating history. Friendly staff. Great big pool. Confusing to book the pool and gym. Despite a lot of lovely communal space they didn’t have that much to do there (which is ok.) The cottages themselves were only moderately comfortable.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Mohan_uk (7/5): Good - Nice place Disappointed that cottage we got was not the one in picture. When i booked i didnt realise that there are many cottages on the prioerty. Be sure to contact them and ask for the cottage by the water if you want to have a view of the water.
Also, we were 3 adults, and the second room had 2 single beds - instead of a double which would have been more comfortable. We went at off peak season so they could have easily thought about how to make us more comfortable.
- Jon (10/5): Just perfect for Loch Ness - Wow, if you're after Loch Ness stay here, beautiful location, absolutely wonderful cottage and a lovely stay, yards from the Loch, we were sad to leave and will return.. Leaving..
- Guy (9/5): We will return for a THIRD time - Amazing location, nice place to relax Gym is a bit tired
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Connor (10/5): Exceptional -
- George (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maksim (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (9/5): Lovely cottage and great base for exploring! - Lovely cottage in a great location with lots of good facilities. The little swimming pool with sauna and steam room was great! There was a nice welcome gift and the cottage was very clean. Quiet location and we were right next to the water with visiting ducks, bunnies and a pheasant. The pillows were really not comfortable and we could have done with kindling for the stove as we struggled to get it going.
- Alexandra (8/5): Lovely stay, perfect for a group of 3-4 people - Very spacious accommodation, with lots of communal space and sofas, and all the equipment we needed for cooking - it was perfect! Unfortunately, we tried to take a bath in the evening but the water would not get hot. The water in the shower was hot, but in the bath tub you could not get the water more than luke warm, therefore none of us could take a bath. (We did not run any taps at the same time, so that was not the issue- not sure why it would not heat up..).
- Mariano (10/5): Highlands perfect days - Cómodo, amplio,
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Prashanth (8/5): Very good - The location is excellent. The property has a good-food restaurant and is near to the lake. The facility features a good-sized indoor activity area with table tennis, board games, chess, pool, and a small gym. The property features an outside cricket ground, football pitch and croquet area. All in all, a pleasant location for a family to enjoy themselves The place itself was pretty basic. We expected a minimum of bottles of water for the price. We stayed two days with no housekeeping. Overall, the stay was comfortable; however, it would be ideal if the host offered daily housekeeping and bottles of water.
