Guest Reviews
- Oliver (2/5): ** Warning *** - Location is around 40 minutes to the coast and the same to the historic city of York Warming the accommodation is NOT the one shown in all the photos and the booking.com listing, it's not modern or furnished like the photos, When we arrived the grill had not been cleaned was dripping with grease and bacon fat, same as the frying pans. It didn't come fully equipped for 6 people with one glass very limited in kitchen utensils. The place was not clean, including the likes of dead flies lying around and squashed into walls, and missing toilet flush. We notified the owner, and she sent the cleaner around the following day not to clean any just to drop off a pack of glasses and a frying pan. We booked two nights for £450 plus we paid an additional 45 for late checkout. Needless to say we left after one night after the cleaner came around and did nothing.

- Barry (7/5): Nice location in central area for the places we wanted to visit -
- Ldraelady 121 (9/5): nice relaxing lodge - nice clean and quiet the internet went down and no signal and woke up the next morning again when woke up missed out on important calls
- Laura (7/5): - No outside furniture
- Beverley (8/5): Relaxing - Peace Lack of welcome pack. No kitchen scourer limited toilet paper. Only two half toilet rolls.had to boil water in a pan. Grill pan was filthy. No useful sharp knives. Not enough matching glasses.
- Tracie (1/5): Dirty - Location I took 12 pictures due to my shock at the lack of cleanliness unbelievable considering the amount of rules that were given to me I would of expected the people issuing them would of been perfect we considered leaving the first day but we had plans to meet friends at castle Howard this is the dirtiest place I have ever stayed
- Anonymous (5/5): Not very clean unfortunately. - It was very spacious and modern, well equipped The biggest thing that let the property down, was the cleanliness, carpet hadn’t been hooverd, decking area & furniture were not clean, blinds were very dusty, bed side lamps in the main bedroom were dusty, dishwasher was full of pots, back of toilet seat, was dusty & had hairs down it,to say the cleaners are there from 9am till 3pm,the property should of been gleaming
- Anonymous (6/5): Poor communication throughout. Lack of basics such as bin bag. Not particularly clean. - Location Lack of basics and standards
- Anonymous (6/5): To be classed as five star accommodation they need to have a good look at what they are offering - The lodge itself was fine and the fishing was excellent Firstly we were placed in the wrong area to the one described in the advertisement.Once relocated we found there was no furniture on the lovely outside decking,we bought camping chairs locally. There’s no rubbish bins,no drinks glasses
- David (6/5): Pleasant -
- Liga (9/5): Superb -
- Ann (6/5): we had a great time - The location was lovely, on a lake and very peaceful. The lodge was lovely and met expectations for the visit I think there would have been benefit from a better booklet to inform about the lodge as it took a while to sort the wifi and heating. As well as surrounding areas.
I was a little disappointed that the host was informed of a lack of glasses and said would bring some and didnt.
The remote controls for the fire and TVs, would have helped if batteries were in at least both the remotes in the living room
- Juglaul (7/5): Very nice cabin to stay but no longer than 2 days, would stay again if a little more effort was put into the quality of - Property was in a nice quiet area, great for a short stay. It had a nice sized living room with a TV and good heater No facilities like hand soap or toilet paper which was not explained before hand. There were dirty clothes and bed sheets in the wardrobes. We saw a bunch on pillows under the bed and on the floor which is a bit alarming. The place was first advertised as a place suitable for 6 but after booking saw one bed was a sofa bed was awful to sleep on.
- Charlotte (7/5): Beautiful location, lodge lacks basics - Absolutely beautiful lodge in a stunning location, peaceful, and the kids loved fishing straight off the peg next to the caravan.
It’s a shame that small things in the property let it down. For the price I paid, there was half a roll of toilet paper, lack of glasses, literally one small wine glass, no batteries in the remotes, apart from the main living room tv, there was one tea towel that hadn’t been changed on change over, as it was grubby and smelt awful, and the shower mat in the en suite was grubby, and I would have thought that a check out time of 9am could be looked at, it absolutely doesn’t need to take 6 hours to clean the lodge between check ins, as it certainly isn’t sparkling on arrival. paid just short of £400 for a 2 night stay, and the location and view was absolutely worth it, however for a 5 star place I would absolutely think that the little things could be looked at. The beds are very comfortable, however it’s very cheap bedding and I would have expected for the price being charged it would be a bit better quality.
Having said all this we did have a lovely stay, and would book again.
- Rebecca (6/5): Not as expected from the listing - The lodge itself is beautiful, in a stunning location. Unfortunately, a series of minor issues has led to a lower rating for our stay. The crockery, placemets and table needed wiping before use, and there was no washing up liquid, hand soap, tea towels, dishwasher tablets or scourers left out to clean with. Very disappointing when the lodge was listed as fully equipped. No bins at all within the property, had to use one of our own bags and leave it out for the cleaner on vacating.
The owner responded quickly to calls and WhatsApp, but this only resulted in washing up liquid, one scourer and a J cloth being left out the following morning. Still no bin bags or any advice on rubbish disposal. TV did not work, had to watch Netflix instead, owner said she would send someone over to see if they could get the connection working, but no one came. Batteries missing from all remotes within the property (fire and bedroom TVs) aside from the TV remote. Tried to put the fire on as it got chilly one evening, but only the light would work.
Looking at previous reviews here, poor cleanliness and missing remote batteries are ongoing issues. Felt a little cheated with our stay as it was billed as 5 star and fully equipped.

- Nicholas (8/5): Lovely - Location, very comfortable Check in time, check out time.
Although it was tidy could of done with a deep
Clean.
- Kelly (6/5): Lovely lodge but let down by the cleanliness - Very modern I was asked to pay an additional £25 for the dog as it requires extra cleaning after. On arrival the lodge hadn’t been cleaned at all. There was left over food in the cupboards, the fridge was dirty as was the microwave and oven. The whole place needed dusting too. There wasn’t any batteries in the remotes and the kitchen tap was leaking. The worst was finding a toenail clipping on the carpet. I sent pictures to the host and she allowed us to have extra time in the morning which she normally charges for. I was very disappointed as it wasn’t cheap.
