Guest Reviews
- Valeria (10/5): - Awesome view on Macchu Picchu, great food, awesome atmosphere and great staff!
- Kelseyleigh (10/5): The BEST stay on Salkantay Trek - Everyone should stay here when doing the Salkantay Trek! This was one of the most unique, incredible locations we’ve ever had the privilege of staying for an amazingly good value. We rearranged our trek schedule to make this our third night on the trail and it was 100% worth it. Highly recommend.
- Pablo (10/5): -
- Felipe (10/5): -
- Marie (10/5): -
- Elliot (9/5): Superb -
- Sydney (10/5): Exceptional - Most beautiful place I’ve ever stayed the private cabanas has gorgeous views and windows to compliment. This is a hidden gem. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and very filling. Attached bathrooms were a little noisy with the neighbors.
- Maria (8/5): Very good - You have to understand that this place is only reachable by donkey or foot. With that being said, the views are simply outstanding. The owners don’t speak much English, but are kind and welcoming. Food was good. The bed was rock hard, and there is only WiFi in the dining hall, not in the rooms. The toilet was having issues, but the owner came by to try to help.
- Mille (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views and outstanding staff!
- Anonymous (10/5): Peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful. - The view was truly spectacular and an amazing reward after a difficult climb. The food was also the best on the trek. Definitely a stay that is worthwhile although a bit more expensive than other hostels along the trail.
- Nira (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect. Very rich. Much more then we expected
- Beatrix (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): One of our most EPIC Stays of ALL Times!!! - Fredricks & Giselle are AMAZING Hosts!!!
My wife had come down with a respiratory issue upon arrival. Giselle was truly an ANGEL caretaker!!! We arrived after dark, Giselle showed us to our room and came back down with extra blankets and her personal recovery remedy: Hot Tea, Lemon, & Local Honey. While I ate dinner with the big group, Giselle brought a special dinner to my wife. She went every extra mile possible to help my wife get her strength back for the next days hike to Aquas Calientes.
The location and views are second to NONE, high up on a mountain, literally overlooking Machu Picchu in the distance. The food was great, bed was cozy & warm and hospitality will never be forgotten :-)
Watching the sunrise over the mountains and lighting up Machu Picchu on it's ridgeline below us will be a forever memory!
Thank You SO Much Giselle & Fredricks!!! I didn't like that I spent only one night here, wish it was a week!!!
- Francesca (7/5): Unbeatable location but a little pricey for the quality of facilities - The location/views from this property are insane and probably the reason most people stay here, waking up to the sunrise colours over the mountains and onto Machu Picchu was super cool and totally worth it. Food was some of the best that we had along the Salkantay trail, generous portions and really delicious. There is bottled water to buy at the property and the rooms were clean and private. Staff were polite. There was quite a bit of rubbish around on the site and the rooms were separated from the en-suite bathrooms by only a shower curtain which isnt much given the slightly higher price. We tried to communicate with host via booking.com for a date change and received no responses so it is tricky to get in touch with the host.
- Aurelien (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view from the room, nice diner and welcome
- Francesca (7/5): Good - The view from the property is astonishing and is honestly so worth staying here for, waking up to the view is amazing and the stars at night were so clear because there’s very little light pollution. The cabins were comfortable with hot water after about 5mins. Bathroom separated from the bedroom by just a shower curtain. Quite a bit of rubbish around the property. Hosts not communicative to questions prior to arriving at the property.
- Tara (10/5): Exceptional - The views
The food was great as well
Spacious room The bed was too hard
There was no door to the bathroom just a shower curtain
- Florian (10/5): Exceptional - 100% worth it just for the view
- Georgina (8/5): Views are great, just needs a bit of a tidy up. - It goes without saying that the main reason to stay here is because of the views. The food was also good and decent portions. For dinner we had soup and popcorn, a vegetable curry, and mango. Breakfast was bread, omelette, mango juice and pancakes.
It was nice to see mules roaming around the land.
The lady was friendly when we were leaving in the morning, making sure we knew where to go on the trek and roughly how long it would take us. The walls are really thin and you can hear your neighbours having conversation and even in the bathroom.
No mirror in bathroom or bedroom.
The guy who was at the lodge when we arrived didn’t really give us much of a greeting and asked for payment upfront.
In the grounds of the property, even though there are some lovely flowers and greenery, there’s also a mess in some areas and parts are generally unkept. (See pictures)
Bed is really firm but this did not affect my sleep.
- Samuel (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (9/5): Wonderful food, incredible vista, helpful staff. - This was a spectacular location to spend a night on the Salkantay Trek - the lodge is only reachable on foot or horseback. The dinner and breakfast provided with this reservation were both excellent and would have been worth paying for on their own. The view from this property itself is worth the reservation - absolutely spectacular if the the weather allows. The bed in the first room we were placed in was very hard, regardless of how stiff a mattress you prefer. The staff was immediately accommodating in moving us to another room with a bed that better suited us.
- Natacha (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful view and great dinner !
- Katelyn (10/5): A dream stay! - Everything about this place exceeded our expectations. We pushed further on our 3rd hiking day to get here and it was TOTALLY WORTH IT! I would 100% recommend. The couple running this place is so incredibly kind and attentive, the views are breathtaking, the cabins are adorable; and the meals provided blew us away! This was our favorite stay during our Salkantay solo trek. nothing at all- definitely stay here!
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alisha (9/5): Lovely! - The location and view were amazing! The food was delicious and it was nice that both dinner and breakfast were included in the price. The bathroom/shower area was very cramped/small (but overall a very minor downside).
- Ingmar (9/5): Superb - Very much enjoyed our stay at the Llactapata lodge, treated to kind hospitality, great food, a comfortable bed and unbelievable views! Exactly what was needed after a day of walking.
- Benedek (9/5): Superb - Excellent view, great comfort. Make sure to have enough time here to watch the sunset and relax. Checkin and dinner was a bit later in practice.
- Blaise (8/5): Very good -
- Serena (8/5): Very good - Truly MILLION DOLLAR views. Unreal. So cool to arrive there by hike and kick back and relax. Meals were top notch. Not sure if they were understaffed, but although the sleeping rooms were very clean, common spaces could have been cleaner to meet the caliber of the rest of the place.
- Justine (9/5): Superb -
- Hanne (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning view and amazing food!
- Nhat (10/5): Make a stop up here! - I got to the lodge late, close to 8:30pm on 04/15/2024, but folks there fired up the kitchen to cook me a hot meal with a smile. The view in the early morning was just "wow". You should come here ealier than I did to also enjoy the late afternoon view.
- Károly (9/5): Superb -
- Eva (10/5): This place is literally breathtaking! The view? Unbelievable! On top of that they will take care of you with a delicious - - amazing and calm place with a view on Macchu Picchu
- very tasty dinner and breakfast
- super nice & kind staff
- Joel (8/5): Very good -
- Danielle (10/5): An unforgettable place - The selling point is certainly the view! The lodge is nestled on a hill and you can see Machu Picchu from a distance.
The room was clean and comfortable but very basic. We had a nice area to sit outside and watch the sunset. There was a crazy intense storm that evening and it was an unforgettable and amazing show to watch from the cabin!
I was very impressed with dinner, especially since it was just a father and son (I think?) running the lodge and restaurant and they covered dinner for over 20 people. It was a little late to come out, but it was the best meal I had during our Salkantay trek. Hats off to you! When we arrived at the lodge (dirty and very exhausted) there was some confusion about our reservation and we didn't receive the warmest welcome- but maybe I just expected a congratulatory 'Bienvenidos!' a hug, and fireworks after walking for 30km... Sooo fair enough!!! However, once that was sorted it was all good. The cabins were basic, especially the washroom/shower so it felt a little overpriced for the facility but we still had a lovely stay.
- Jinko (8/5): Very good - the view was excellent from the rooms! Especially we had seen Machu Picchu with double rainbows. The three course meals with popcorns at dinner was excellent.
- Julia (10/5): Beautiful views and delicious food - The views are spectacular and the food was amazing. Definitely worth the hike up.
- Romain (10/5): Amazing view on Machu Picchu - Amazing food, amazing view, great host and very cute dog !!
- Kinga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible views of Machu Picchu and the mountains. HOT showers!!!! :)
- Diana (10/5): Best room on the trek - Fantastic property overlooking Machu Picchu and the mountains around it. We went from Lucmabamba so had plenty of time to enjoy the views. Fantastic food as well.
- Ardita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): If you are doing the Salkantay trek or visiting Llactapata this is a must stop! - What a view! What a place! The views of Machupicchu and the surrounding mountains are spectacular from everywhere including the rooms. The property is very well kept and the rooms are comfortable and clean. Food is excellent and abundant. Felix and Gisela welcome you and are on top of everything.
- Monika (10/5): Amazing stay! - Absolutely worth of spending the night(or few) there!
Owner is a legend. He was very helpful and cooked delicious food!
Place is basic, however views are worth millions. Very peaceful place. Lack of hot water, however it's very common in places like this :)
- Polly (10/5): Magical location - We booked Llactapata Lodge for the last night of the Salkantay trek. Heaved ourself up the mountain and arrived to surely one of the most stunning panaramas in the world: a beautiful display of sun and rainbows framing Machu Picchu in the distance. Same view from the bed and in the (hot and good!) shower of the cute little hut perched on the ridge. Food was good and copious! It's not a 'luxury' hotel but it was luxury for us after the trail. We arrived a bit earlier than the staff expected us (1.30ish) and they don't really provide lunch but they gave us mountains of popcorn! There are worse ways to spend the afternoon than with popcorn and beer watching epic skies over Machu Picchu. Really magical place.
- Arnaud (10/5): Exceptional - The welcome from the owners is very warm. The location is absolutely splendid, with a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu!
The evening meal and breakfast are very good!
The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
It's a great place to spend the night before hitting the road again.
We loved it! Nothing
- Franziska (10/5): Perfect! - The view is incredible!
Very nice for the last night before walking to aguas calientes!
- Philip (10/5): Fantastic lodge with views of Machu Picchu - Astonishing view & location, great dinner & breakfast, very hot showers, comfortable room.
A fantastic place - definitely stay here if you have the option. Nothing to note.
- Flubber (10/5): Great views and amazing food, don´t miss to stay here! - Stunning views into the valley and Machu Picchu directly from the bed. Lovely cottages with private bathroom and shower with hot water. Really friendly staff! The food was amazing, 3 course dinner where you could chose between options. The breakfast was amazing as well with pancakes, fresh juices, local coffee, and so on. Definitely worth to stay here!
- Nicole (10/5): Best lodge on the Salkantay trek - This was our favorite hotel of the Salkantay trek. It has beautiful spotlessly clean rooms with big glass windows and amazing views of the surrounding mountains and Machu Picchu. Even the bathroom in our room had a huge window with views. There are lots of great lawn chairs to sit in and enjoy the view. The dinner and breakfast were amazing! The food was cooked by a trained chef. He also cooked us lunch when we arrived with no notice and even though he said he only had enough for 2, there was more than enough for all 5 of us (and he only charged us for 2!). The showers are hot and have good water pressure. There is no WiFi but it is not needed with the views. Highly recommend to stay here and split the trek from Lucmabamba to Aguas Calientes into 2 days so you have time to enjoy it - we had the whole afternoon and could have spent longer there! Best value for money of the whole trek!
- Eric (10/5): Amazing view - Good shower after a long trek, plenty of food, view is amazing, could stay there a while. Amazingly worth the money. Would do the salkantay again just to come back
- Alby (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful setting to relax and enjoy looking at MP. Nothing. Great property.
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (7/5): Good - amazing view had to wait quite long for dinner and breakfast
we could hear everything from the neighboring cabin (voices, toilet)
no WiFi
expensive beer
- Eimear (10/5): Incredible views, delicious food and friendly owners - We absolutely loved our stay at Llactapata Lodge. Everything was fantastic. The views that it provides overlooking Machu Picchu are incredible. The staff were so friendly and the food was fantastic. The meals were large, delicious and made with love ! We would have loved to have stayed for longer on our Salkantay Trek
- Carmel (10/5): Exceptional - A brilliant stay with an absolutely fantastic view. The people working there were so friendly and helpful, and were able to provide great options for one of us who can't eat gluten!
- Jakub (10/5): super cool - the best location
- Moritz (10/5): Best option for third night of Salkantay trek. - Best option for third night of Salkantay Trek. Even if the third day from Chaullay to Llactapata are very challanging 26 km it´s worth every effort. View to Machupicchu is amazing, even directly out of bed. Room has big glass front. Dinner and Breakfast was the best one we got during our whole Trek. 24 h hot shower. everything was good.
- Hussein (5/5): If view is your motivation, don't bother. Otherwise, double check the booking at least. - I'm glad I stayed the night instead of choosing to climb the mountain just to go back down straight away We didn't know when we'd arrive so only booked that morning. With booking confirmed we proceeded to climb up to the lodge, only to find they actually had no space for us. This was concerning as there wasn't really any other option by this point. Another couple also had the same dilemma. Thankfully they were able to put together something in a spare room, but it had big windows and no curtains, and also meant having to use the shared toilet. So first lesson is to be sure to have a confirmation by private message.
The view was overrated. Machu Picchu is visible on the distance, but only as a grey blur unless you have some good binoculars or camera with good telescope. Second lesson is not to bother staying if the view is your motivation. You could maybe stop for a snack, enjoy it for a minute at best and then continue.
Food was good portion sizes, though greasy, which doesn't go well with an already upset stomach.
- Marie (9/5): Great place with a view on the Machu Picchu - The view from the private double room is unbelievable ! It' snot every night you can see the Machu Picchu from your bed ! The bathroom was super clean and the water for the shower was very hot (amazing after a long day of hiking). The check-in was a bit chaotic, we got disappointed by the diner and the breakfast. It's not bad but it could have been better. Some friends who thought booked via Booking but it didn't work, ended up sleeping in one single bed in some kind of "room" with no toilets or shower, so not cool...
- Olli (10/5): Amazing food, amazing view. - The food was the best of the whole hike, and the view from the room was best we've ever experienced! Highly recommend visiting. The walls of the room were very thin so we could hear the people next door.
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - What a view!
Such a great place to stay while hiking the Salkantay trek.
The food here is great and the staff is very friendly.
We loved our cabin with a view on Machu Picchu!
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - The location here is incredible. If you're planning the Salkantay trek and you're not planning on staying here, change your itinerary so you stay at least one night here. You will get to see the sun rise and set over Machu Picchu set amongst the mountains. All the rooms have a view of Machu Picchu from the beds. Service is incredible, with the best food we had on the trek. The rooms were also extremely clean and cozy. I can't say enough nice things about the family that runs this lodge, they are so thoughtful and worked extremely hard to make sure everyone enjoyed their stay.
- Cassidy (10/5): Exceptional - absolutely beautiful location and the nicest staff. food was excellent too!
- Filip (10/5): One of the best accommodations we stayed at - Awesome view. Hot shower. Toilet and shower private in the room. Very comfortable bed. Very tasty dinner and breakfast. We were even asked if we want more food.
