Guest Reviews
- pol (5/5): Not worth the price - Friendly staff First of all 30k to park the bike in front of the hostel is not ok and it should be included when it's on their property. But I also expected a lot more from a 220k hostel as far away from the city center as this one. The owner was very friendly and gave me another bed when I complained about the other room being smelly. I don't want to bash them but it's not worth the price you pay in my opinion.
- Hoàng (4/5): - I book shared room with 6 beds, but got 8 beds instead, it was really late and I was tired so just jumped to bed.
The AC was off at 3a.m. and no where to find the remote, the smell attacked heavyly and I left the homestay right after that
I was in 3rd floor, but the wc, shower are in 2nd, no elevator, imagine that, in the middle of night and you need to pee.

- Lauren (10/5): - I really like Tuna Homestay, it's quiet and comfortable, and the facilities are really good. I enjoyed staying in the female dorm, theres natural light, space and private beds, have returned again to stay before my flight. The host was sweet and gifted me a rose on International Womens day. Great value for money, highly recommend.
- mahmoud (10/5): Felt like home!! -
- xie (6/5): - Located by West Lake, with convenient transportation. The receptionist's attitude was so-so. It's far from Hoan Kiem Lake, so I wouldn't recommend it if you like a lively atmosphere.
- Takeda (3/5): Should more be friendly to guests - Toilet and bathroom were clean. When Checking in the foreigner staff is unfriendly so kind of rude 😅
They mentioned they have a breakfast but no had .
In the middle of the night the staff came to our room and made some loud talking
Wifi not strong…

- Nghĩa (9/5): - Sạch sẽ, an toàn, rõ ràng
- Shai (10/5): Nice, clean, quiet and comfy place in front of the lake - One of the best hostels I stayed (and I stayed in many)). Cean, quiet, comfy, authenic, no creazy tourist activities around, and in front of the lake. Excellent connection with public transportacion to any part of Hanoi. Market, shops, street food, cafe with real espresso just around the corner. And very nice owners.
- J (8/5): Very good - Quiet and coze place. Near very cheap places eat and buy snacks. Lake very near to go walking. Only minus is locker key. Money to give 25.000 is not deposit. Its lawn about key. That is ridicilious move, never see anywhere like that. Its just collecting money.
- Dorian (10/5): Exceptional - Everything nothing
- Jansen (8/5): Very good -
- Tanya (10/5): Exceptional - Personally I liked it! It was quiet the location was good it felt like a home which is exactly what I was looking for when I came here. Stayed for 5 days, had no problems
- Christabel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Silence (5/5): may be ok! - no! ...
- Sariyya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sariyya (10/5): It is recommended place to stay - I’ll be staying here for more than two weeks(since march 18 I have been staying here), and it already feels like home. The place is cleaned daily. When needed, I can ask for my sheets and pillowcases to be changed. If I need my clothes washed, the host takes care of it kindly. The location is convenient—close to everything. My favorite part is the breakfast; I get to choose from different options. Everything I need is available, including a hair dryer, bathroom, iron, and even a lovely yard to relax in. Nothing to say
- Shinzato (1/5): Not returning the deposit - I have traveled all over the world, but this is the first time I am giving the lowest rating in a hotel review. This place does not return the deposit. The staff's attitude is the worst.
At night, the hostel locks its front gate, but this was not mentioned anywhere on the booking site or explained to guests. When I returned at 2 AM, the gate was locked. I called, but no one answered. I had to knock on the gate until someone finally opened it. When the staff member came out, she started verbally abusing me. Reflexively, I responded, and she then grabbed a broom and attacked me, trying to throw me out. Feeling unsafe, I stayed calm and waited for her to settle down. Eventually, I waited until she went back inside and was finally able to enter the hostel.
The next day, when I checked out, she claimed that the door was broken and refused to return my deposit. The door was not broken. When I repeatedly asked for my deposit back, she changed her story, saying, "You kicked me yesterday, so I won’t return it." When I denied this, she claimed there were security cameras. I asked to see the footage, but she refused to show it to me. After more requests for my deposit, she then said, "I don’t even work here, so I don’t have the authority to give it back."
This person is a compulsive liar with no sense of customer service. I felt deeply disappointed. I recorded part of my interaction with her on video, so I have evidence. However, the police refused to intervene because the deposit amount was too small.
I sincerely hope that no one else ever stays at this hostel.
- Linus (7/5): pretty decent - the showers were good and the outside area was a nice place to chill my mattress was literally wood it was aweful but only for one night so not the end of the world
- Gaetan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gaetan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alise (10/5): Excellent homestay! - The owners were a lovely couple, always greeting kindly and offering suggestions as of what to see. The location, whilst far from the old district (opposite side of the lake), has bus stops right next to it, that lead towards the old district (and the buses cost barely a couple of cents). Being right next to the lake, you can enjoy local cafe's only a short walk away. Every morning one of the owners would prepare local Vietnamese breakfast for me that I enjoyed thoroughly. Sometimes the shower water was cold, but cold showers are all the rage now :D
- Inbar (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing really... The room was very very cold, and the one little blanket wasnt enough. They were also very rude.
- Troeshkina (10/5): I like this Homestay -
- Roald (8/5): Very good -
- Alena (10/5): Recommend - This place is located just in a few steps of the West Lake. All the beautiful coffee shops are at a walking distance.
The rooms are clean and spacious. The rest room is clean and has got hot water. The WiFi connection is good. Downstairs is a nice common area where you can chill or work. They have a small yard where you can rest and have a cup of coffee. They serve nice breakfasts. The owners are lovely people read to help and support. I really recommend this place for all the people visiting Hà Nội. It’s great combination of budget and comfort. None
- Marcos (6/5): upset - From the price you are going to pay, you must add 15k to each of the following items: . Towel . Body soap . Shampoo . Toothpaste and toothbrush . Bicycle parking . Motorcycle parking . Locker in the room, each one has a different price, breakfast is half a baguette that you have to remind them many times because if they can forget, they will not serve you breakfast. My experience was very bad, they are desperate to charge you and the services are bad, the bicycle was broken, they charged me for it as new. It is a family home and the public places are occupied by said family. The location is remote, I do not give them zero because I know that a lot of work is involved in reputation
- Anton (10/5): Homestay - I like this place and am staying here for the second time. It’s usually not crowded and is a pretty comfortable place to stay in Hanoi. The family running this property are very nice people. I will definitely recommend this place.
- Nthabiseng (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danny (7/5): overall good - the hospitality of the owner staffs
- Yonatan (1/5): Better to avoid - If you want to pay for every little thing and deal with a couple whose rude behavior stands out, this is the place for you. Everyone I met at the hostel felt the same about how unfriendly they are. Parking, towels, and even leaving your bag cost extra. To top it off, they ask for a good review in exchange for late check-out. Don’t believe the good reviews—there are much better hostels. And sure, they’ll probably respond saying it’s not true, but trust me, everything I wrote here is accurate.
- Sviatoslav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sviatoslav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Agustri (9/5): Superb - The hosts were so friendly
- Jody (8/5): Very good - It is a nice and calm area. The hosts are helpful. I had a very comfortable stay! Only the beds are a bit hard but I guess thats in most places.
- Joshua (1/5): Uncomfortable - Just fire your manager,he is too mean,he always charged the guests more the the price than booking,I ask why,he told me he’s there
- Amy (10/5): Very Good - I've stayed here many times now, pretty much every weekend when I visit the city. The location is great and it's so affordable! It's clean, the staff are friendly, the breakfast is good and comfortable. It's not very noisy here either. Very peaceful compared with old quarter It's not the hostels fault but sometimes other guests can be noisy as the single sex dorms are pretty big. But this is expected in a hostel. For the price and location you can't complain too much
- Joshua (1/5): Bad - The male staff at this hostel has a serious integrity issue. He overcharges guests, and the cash payment price doesn’t match the rate listed on Booking.com—without any prior notice. It took me three days to discover the discrepancy, and I later found out that other guests experienced the same problem. Overcharging might be forgivable if handled with honesty, but when confronted, his response was shockingly dismissive: ‘Because I’m sitting here, I charge more.’
This attitude is not only unprofessional but downright disrespectful. His mere presence creates an oppressive atmosphere, making it uncomfortable to even see him around.
Objectively speaking, the hostel itself is clean, well-ventilated, and even has a charming courtyard. However, the experience of dealing with this staff member was so unpleasant that I chose not to stay there anymore.
This review is intended as feedback for the owner, though it’s unclear if they’ll ever see it. That being said, this individual is undoubtedly costing the hostel significant revenue. Many other guests have chosen not to stay here for the same reason, but they remain silent instead of leaving reviews.

- Bart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nigel (8/5): Very good - Everything was Great. Friendly owners very clean. Priversy curtains, hot power shower, nice court yard with fruit trees the star fruit would fall when the wind blew and the big ones were nice to eat. Water feature with lots of fish 😄 full control of the aircon in room so all day!!! They had lockers but you could not lock them. They should make them so you have to put your own lock on them? bit if the owner has read this review he has probly fix them as as soon as he sees something out of place he gets strait on it. He's very spontanious!!!! ( Good owners) 😃
- Le (2/5): Very poor - Location kind of is good, I meet a good ppl in there and they all left Bcuz of the receptionist's attitude she is Russian
And stop texting me. I am very displeased with how the receptionist treated me during my stay. At 1 a.m., she told me to leave the house simply because I was hungry and had brought food from outside. I only used a bowl from the kitchen to eat my food, and despite other guests telling her that it’s perfectly fine to do so, she became aggressive and threatened to call the police on me. I still don’t understand why she was so offensive and yelled at me. Overall, it was a terrible experience
- Le (1/5): Bad -
- Théberge-gauvin (5/5): Just don't go there - The place is nice, quite luxurious for a hostel in Vietnam and the location is good. That pretty much ends the listof nice things about this hostel. The owner has an absurd list of rules for the guests. He charges towels per use, parkings, etc (basically a lot of things you usually get for free in hostels). It is almost surprising that you can piss for free. His attitude and vibe is really weird (he just does not seem to care at all).
We left at 6:30 in the morning, which is quite early (but not completely unusual). We wanted to take back our deposit for the key, but nobody was at the front desk. In fact, we did not see anyone at the front desk apart from our check in, so from 8pm to 6:30am, despite the fact that in the welcome message, it is stated that there is front desk assistance 24/7. We had to make a lot of noise early in the morning to wake him up just to get our deposit back (and he almost gave us someone else's passport instead...).
Most of the people there seem to be living there full-time and are a bit older than what you usually see in most hostels. The vibe is a bit weird and we did not feel welcome, but it could have been worse.
Finally, it is not the worst hostel, but definitely not the best, mainly because of the owner. There is so many good hostels in Hanoi you can go somehere else and just get a Grab if you need to be in this part of the city.
- Ly (7/5): Good - Airy, quiet, clean and spacious room. They let me check in early at 12AM when the bed was available.
The room is cleaned often. I never saw the male host smile during my 3-day stay. He communicated just enough and there was no warm welcome. I guess it's the "Hanoi service style", which I never get. It doesn't hurt to show a little hospitality?
(His wife (?) however did offered help before I asked sometimes)
As someone mentioned, you pay for everything else apart from the bed (like motor parking is 25k/day 😅). So yeah, they offer a clean and comfy bed, but don't expect much more than that.
- Noa (1/5): There are many better hostels in Hanoi - location Everything is extra here. Towels are 15,000 dong and motorcycle parking is 25,000 dong. If even the tissue paper was charged extra, I would have exploded. The host does his best to take the money from you. Rather, set the amount from scratch that includes all of this
- Tamira (10/5): Super comfortable - Staff were super friendly, hostel is in a nice quiet area but close enough to get everything you need. Comfortable beds and clean facilities
- Anton (8/5): Very good - Everything about this place is good, especially the location, which I like the most. There are no hangers in the bathroom
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maxime (8/5): Very good - The hostel is situated in a very convenient area near the big lake surrounded by coffees.
This is managed by a nice little family and the atmosphere is chill and quiet.
All the facilities are clean and well maintained.
It's just a 20mins ride from the airport, I would definitely recommend stopping over here.
- Shibin (9/5): Superb - The staff are good
- Ascanio (8/5): Nice place - Very quiet Too far from main attractions
- Nour (9/5): Superb - Good
- Charne (10/5): Awesome! - I loved everything here, especially the location. It is perfect. Hosts are also GREAT!
- Iliuza (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location near the lake with lots of cute cafes and restaurants around. Perfect stay for the price.
- Linh (9/5): Superb - Homestay owner enthusiastic and kind
I losted my wallet somewhere in Homstay but after picked up he return for me with all off asset in the wallet Room a bit noisy when rain falled down I could hear it eventhough I was sleeping
- Adekoya (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is amazing!
- Charne (10/5): Amazing - Everything was amazing. Nice chill spot in a nice area with loads of locals. Very nice neighborhood, close to the lake. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who want to escape the chaos of the old quarter :-) All was good. :-)
- Zili (3/5): Poor - I stayed in four youth hostels, this one is the cheapest and the worst, if you want to save 10000-20000 VND, come here I stayed in four youth hostels, this one is the cheapest and the worst, if you want to save 10000-20000 VND, come here
- Christopher (1/5): Not good. Find a better place. Not set up well for meeting other travelers - Close to the lake The service. Very unwelcoming. The website online suggests guests can use kitchen. In reality, when I went to get hot water for tea, the woman told me to fill up the kettle in the bathroom after someone I shed using the bathroom. Not exactly hospitable
- Adekoya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samanta (10/5): A quiet, clean and well located place - I needed a quiet and private place to work. I have been staying here for more than 2 weeks. The location is great, a quiet and family neighborhood, West Lake is 1 minute away. The staff is very friendly and I highly appreciated the cleanliness. Recommended 100% :)
- Charne (10/5): Tranquil - Tuna Homestay: A Tranquil Oasis Near West Lake
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Tuna Homestay in Hanoi, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. Here’s why:
Location: Nestled in the Tay Ho District, Tuna Homestay enjoys a prime spot just minutes away from the picturesque West Lake. The quiet street ensures a peaceful stay, yet you’re still close to the city’s attractions.
Warm Atmosphere: Tuna Homestay feels like a home away from home. The family-like atmosphere makes it hard to leave. The staff—Liya and Tung—are incredibly friendly and attentive. They genuinely care about your experience.
