Guest Reviews
- Troy (9/5): Very good value base for exploring the Valleys of South East Wales. - I was surprised by how pleasant this was. The room was very large, comfortable and the bathroom was a good size too. Everything seemed very clean. I didn’t dislike anything really.
- Smillie (8/5): Great short stop ideal location very quiet - Location very quiet , bed very comfortable Nothing
- chris (9/5): All good . - Clean and tidy . Rooms have a fridge and microwave . Only a B&B , No longer a pub so no breakfast or drinks .
- Marcus (5/5): Very cheap and cheerful - It was an ideal location for me doing parkrun
Price made it value for money Road outside, very noisy despite double glazing. Rooms very basic.
- Davies (2/5): Poor.advertised as a busy pub with entertainment. There was none.no bar .that had been taken out - No breakfasts available. They had stopped doing them They shouldn't advertise what they had already stopped

- Baker (10/5): Good quality clean guesthouse at affordable price. - Conveniently located in Ebbw Vale, we stayed in a double bed + single bed room. We had a small fridge freezer and microwave plus the usual kettle, this is one feature from North American hotels I would like to see more of. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom a little dated but beautifully clean. Reasonable hanging space with hangers, suitcase stool, table with chair. This former pub stages only pre booked events, therefore no food or drinks are available on the premises, however, several convenience shops and takeaways 2 minutes by car, 10 minutes walk. Larger supermarkets are nearby. WiFi was free and good for streaming on our stick with no glitches. The Staff were great, Barrie does check in and leaves his phone number for any questions. The cleaner did a good job and was friendly. As a 3 person room, an extra 2 chairs would be useful. Nit picking here, but the TV a little small for the room size.
- Duncan (8/5): Good value overnight stay. - Location is OK, and within walking distance of the town centre. No catering on-site, but the room had a fridge/freezer and microwave, and there were plates and cutlery in the lounge if you wanted to get a take-away in.
The room was clean, smart and recently refurbished, and a good size. For value for money, this is unbeatable. No shower in my room but unavoidable with the shape of the bathroom.

- John (8/5): - Very clean excellent location for our event For the price it was excellent

- Clair (8/5): Basic but perfectly adequate for what we needed - Although this was a basic accommodation it was clean, comfortable and everything you would expect. Even had tea, coffee, fridge with a mini freezer (actually did what a fridge should!) and tv that actually commented to services unlike other places where tv doesn’t work Odd checking in system. Had to call a phone number then go up the road and knock on a door for a very nice lady to let us in. It was fine but may have been difficult late at night

- david (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - Nice big clean room, quite area and good Internet. Nothing. It literally says what it does on the tin
- Kayleigh (10/5): Brilliant value for Money - Warm and clean and had a bath!
- Simon (9/5): Cheap and cheerful, great value, what’s not to like? - Superb value for money, basic but good facilities and cheap
- Paul (7/5): -

- Stephanie (6/5): Cheap option - Reasonably cheap place to spend the night. Had a few extras a normal hotel wouldn’t like a microwave and fridge. It’s an ex hotel that doesn’t seem to be used anymore. Our room was up in the roof and the layout was very odd - you could barely open the bathroom door as it hit the bed (had to squeeze through the gap). Also due to the curved roof there was no proper shower and you bumped your head going to the toilet.
- George (2/5): - The parking Was not at all like the pictures in the advertent for the hotel no beer on tap no food place was empty to ring for attendance when arrived this place should not be on booking.com because it is a con and I would like a full refund mis representing at the highest level

- Steven (10/5): - The rooms are very clean and the Ben is very comfy, the hotel is maintained and cleaned, it's very quiet and relaxing.
- Darren (8/5): A convenient stay for my hillwalking adventures in the area. - I liked the fact that there was a mini fridge and microwave giving options should I have needed it. The place was clean, welcoming and everything worked ok. The toilet was very noisy so could scare a few people.
- Sarah (7/5): - just half a mile from Ebbw Vale Town train station, with free plentiful parking, so easy to get into Cardiff. not so aethestically pleasing on the outside, yet has what's needed on the inside.
several short sets of stairs.
- Darren (7/5): -
- L M (6/5): - It is fine to stay for just one night or two. Breakfast was not available at the guest house nor near by. Macdonald was the only place we could fine.
There wasn't much going on in town .
- Robert (8/5): -
- john (7/5): Kings Arms, Guest House - Hi, didn't realise or wasn't told that the Kings Arms as I thought was a public house but only opened on the weekend, no breakfast was on offer either, very disappointed in that and no information on their website telling me so.
Many thanks Graham Lewis
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Aherne (1/5): Hell hole - Nothing Room had no heating apart from an individual electric plug in heater, room was beyond basic, main door to reception was not secure, no staff on site, drug taking going on outside, we decided to vacate the room as we didn't feel safe, so we booked a Premier Inn room which was close by, would not recommend this place to anyone,
- david (10/5): Excellent - On the outside some work would need to be done to refresh the building.
But on the inside excellent no food provided of course but a good pub 10 mins walk away in Ebbw vale town Just the general outside of the building but
This would take some work in the future

- Wendy (8/5): - Barry!! Lovely man who lives next door and sorts out reception. And his dog Barney.
Bed was very comfy I had booked it thinking I had a room over a pub so I could just walk downstairs and work on my laptop in the evening over a of couple pints
Sadly the pub is no more, just the rooms.
But the Badminton is a short walk away.

- Marilyn (9/5): Good location and nice welcome on arrival. - Nice clean accessible location. Beds were bit hard.
- Georgina (10/5): Would stay again, now I know what to expect - Reception from gentleman awesome..such a lovely man , value for money It was old advertising; i.e., used to be a working pub, bar, accommodation ...it is not now. I went there because I thought it was a bar/ restaurant accommodation...the promotional pics say so ... but there is no bar, no outside frivolities as the photos show... needs a little bit of readjusting ...but the accommodation, is clean, tidy, welcoming, 10 mins walk from town,.....but what I do not get, is how immaculate the accommodations and reception areas are..awesome...you need to make more of this..Mr Gentleman
- Matthew (8/5): - Clean and comfortable hotel room. Good facilities in the room - microwave, fridge, kettle and lots of wardrobe space if you were here for a while. While no food provided, plates and cutlery are provided in the dining area. The wider hotel felt a bit like it hadn't been touched since the pub was closed. The dining area - where you could eat takeaway or microwaved food - was a bit dingy, and felt a bit unloved.
- kevin (9/5): - Clean and pleasant conveniant for what I needed
- Jyoti (7/5): -
- Rositza (10/5): I will stay again. - Good value for money I dont know
- Jingles (10/5): 👍 -
- Ngomba (8/5): Excellent last minute booking - Staff professionality and service.
- Marek (8/5): -
- Philippa (6/5): I would not stay here again, but for one night it was okay, the room was clean and it was cheap. - It was convenient to stay here for one night as I travelled through. Even though most of the building was no longer in use, one I got to my room I found it to be clean and quiet and had a fridge which was useful. The discounted price for the night of 59 Pounds was cheap for the area. My view out my window was a digging machine and retaining wall works. I was glad I was only passing through. The room was nice and clean and suited my needs for one night, but I would not have been happy to stay longer. The restaurant, reception and lounge areas downstairs are no longer in use and so it does feel a little odd. And because it is not used there was a slightly damp and smokey smell.
- Viv (8/5): Location is just outside the town but within walking distance. Perfect for an event we attended! Cheap and cheerful for - The room was clean and comfortable with a good shower. Kettle and plenty of tea/coffee sachets etc. (unlike some places where you just get two of each)! Also a fridge and microwave in the room that may be useful for some guests. The outside entrance was not very inviting.
- Victoria (8/5): -
- Les (6/5): - Room was clean and warm. There was a fridge and microwave. It is no longer a pub. The steps to the room were uneven.
- Shane (3/5): Poor, very expensive - Person who let in was friendly No staff, no facilities, run down building, entry by unlockable door next to a skip and rubbish. Person who gave key is a neighbour. Pictures are deceiving. Price unjustifiable.
- David (7/5): - Shame bar wasn’t open but a nice place to stay close a project we are working on
- Edwards (9/5): -
- Neil (7/5): -
- Tia (10/5): -
- MARTIN EINON (7/5): affordable and clean - very friendly janitor, very clean room wifi signal didnt work except communal lounge, the location was a bit grim but thats not their fault
- kevin (2/5): -
- McLaughlin (8/5): -
- Amriddin (10/5): -
- Lukas (10/5): More than I needed - Everything was excellent, probably just found my favourite place to stay in this area.
- Terry (9/5): -
- Derek (7/5): Vacation with my Granddaughter. - The Location was just what we needed, easy walk to town, No reception as such, ring Barry to get keys to the room, no breakfast capability
- Darran (6/5): - It was cheap A little bit dated but you get what you paid for and they are attempting to update the building
- Adam (10/5): -
- Emile Eleveld (5/5): Okay, beds not too comfortable - Stayed in a 2 single bed room and one of the beds had an uncomfortable mattress with springs and the bedsheet was too thick for mid August.
- Ian (8/5): - Facilities were clean , staff very friendly.. Would be ideal if breakfast was available and the bar needs pumps for beer and lager..
- john (10/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): Quick stop off lovely staff had everything we needed. - It was close to the festival we were going to for a quick stop over. It had everything we needed including a small fridge freezer, TV, en suite, tea & coffee making facilities. The gentleman who checked us in was really pleasant, polite and informative. We struggled to find anywhere decent to eat out.
- Lindsey (8/5): Good position for town centre. Clean and comfortable. - Location Noise from road
- Lindsey (8/5): Perfect for one night stay when just there to sleep and shower. Good location for town centre. - Friendly staff. Location good. Noisy traffic. Couldn’t get channels on tv.
- Madison (8/5): -
- Ilona (8/5): -
- paul (7/5): good clean rooms for living/working away - the location was good and facilities nearby there was no bar facilities within th accomodation
- Rayner (6/5): Ok for the money - We were greeted by a man in his slippers who apparently lived next door. The hotel was ok, just felt more like a hostel, but it was reasonable priced and clean. I’m not sure the outside door to the hotel locked so I felt a little vulnerable there being no staff on site.
- Rob (9/5): -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kirsty (3/5): Over priced, no sleep, would not stay again. - Free parking Paper thin walls - another guest was snoring so loudly they may as well have been in the room and had to ask the next room to turn their TV down. Thin, old mattresses. Incredibly noisy fridge that kept turning on and off all night. Useless curtains. Mouldy shower. No mirror in the bedroom and no hairdryer so couldn’t do my hair and make up as there was no window in the bathroom so also couldn’t use the bathroom mirror. No nice pubs or restaurants in walking distance. Only saw one member of staff which a small child ran to get as we arrived. Communal areas smelled musty. Loads of steps so not disability friendly. Breeze blocks for steps. Not a lot of good things to say really definitely do not recommend for £70 a night!
- Susan (10/5): If you want somewhere to crash and not pay Premier Inn prices, this is it. As they say in the information they don’t do - It was clean, comfortable, quiet location, a few minutes walk to the centre of Ebbw and value for money. Nothing,
- Christopher (8/5): Very good -
- Ashley (6/5): Adequate for a stopover for us who were on a golf tour through Wales. - Obviously an old Pub which has closed, but the rooms were clean and tidy with tea/coffee facilities, so therefore served its purpose for us who were using it as a stopover on a trip!
We were met by a very helpful chap who sorted everything for us and also pointed us in the right direction for some food as it was quite late when we arrived. It was a little quiet and out of the way, and a shame that the bar has closed, but I suppose this is a sign of the times. Therefore not really a complaint from us !

- Alun (6/5): Nice hotel overall - Nice quiet clean room. No breakfast facility and poor location for walking to Town
- Tyler (9/5): Superb -
- Jtm (9/5): Super Clean and Fantastic Hosts - Fantastically clean and great comms for check in etc. Nothing for our trip it was perfect.
- Candy (1/5): Horrible - Nothing It is run down, feels abandoned, horrible bed, my allergies were on overdrive in the room. Outdated and gross. I also suspect someone was in our room and ate some snacks we had.
