Guest Reviews
- Mark (9/5): Loved it. - Really authentic and great value for money - very helpful and friendly. Close to road - but that was not really an issue.

- Zhanpeng (1/5): - Unprofessional Extortion and Disrespectful Service – Avoid at All Costs!
I travel all over the world frequently, and this is by far the worst hospitality experience I have ever encountered.
We attempted to resolve a booking issue with the hotel a day before arrival, but they insisted everything be handled through Booking.com. However, upon check-in, the front desk demanded an unreasonable and exorbitant additional fee of $60 USD per room just to let us into our rooms.
The service was beyond appalling. We dealt with a young female staff member who spoke fluent English but used it to be incredibly condescending. While we were on the phone with Booking.com trying to mediate the situation, she was literally filing her nails with a contemptuous smirk, dismissively stating there was "no other way" but to pay their extra fee they asked. The hotel was completely unyielding, even when speaking directly to the Booking.com representative. Because of this blatant price-gouging and the insulting, "couldn't-care-less" attitude of the staff, we chose to walk away and find another hotel nearby.
This establishment lacks basic professional ethics and treats guests with utter disdain. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else. (I would give 0 stars if possible)
- Alice (8/5): If you don't need a fulltime kitchen - very nice rooms that are close to all you need - the location- very close to atm, supermarket, restaurants and shops
the outdoor spaces and how well the equiped the kitchen was.
The easy acces to all the tours and how they help you finding everything.
The clean and comfortable bed Some things needs some maintenance like the door; it was making a lot of noise with wind
The shower is not warm - and since it's colder in this part of costa rica you might prefer that
no entrance till 8 am to the kitchen and after 10am you can use it to make your own breakfast. so if you are depending on a available kitchen, you want to make yourself an early coffee; not the best choice
You can order breakfast for an extra fee - which looked marvelous
- Stefanie (8/5): Kleine, freundliche Pension in zentraler Lage - Zentrale Lage in Santa Elena. Alles fußläufig erreichbar. Inhaberin sehr freundlich.

Totalmente recomendado.

- Christy (8/5): - Clean, safe, helpful for registering for activities The room was noisy due to being underground next to the road.
The only reason I wouldn't stay there again is because I would want to be in an area that is more wildlife immersive.
- Evaldas (10/5): -
- Martine (7/5): - Locatie is ok, dichtbij centrum Santa Elena.
- Paul (7/5): Not my best stay in Costa Rica - The room I booked was a ‘garden view’ room but was right next to the road so couldn’t have curtains open or people could see into it from the road. The shower only had hot water for about 2 minutes before it goes cold. The staff in the house are quite noisy during the day. Both tours I booked through them had issues with the guides not being there and some having to end up joining other groups activities.
- Mark (10/5): Terrific hostel with tour desk l - Host/Owner Marleny was incredibly helpful in finding us various tours, guides, shuttles, hiking trails, attractions. It made our stay relaxed and effortless. Room was a bit small for two plus luggage but manageable.
- Vladimir (10/5): Great experience, good value for the money. - Marliny (the owner) was super friendly and made our stay very comfortable. Location was great, close to many restaurants, a supermarket, and other stores. Breakfast was good. Parking lot was across the street ($10 per night). I recommend to book a room with the balcony. None that I can think of.
- Éva (8/5): - Családias hangulatú szálláshely, közel a központhoz.
- sylvie (8/5): Encantada ! -

- David (10/5): Great staff, and easy for supermarkets and restaurants. - Friendly staff who helped us to contact the tour we booked earlier. Very easy to find the supermarket and restaurant!
- eelco (7/5): -
- Nancy (8/5): This hostel/B&B is run by a nice, hardworking family. It felt like a real slice of Costa Rica - The deck overlooking the creek was excellent for birdwatching. There were restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. The breakfast was delicious and the hosts were friendly and helpful. There was no parking but we figured it out. We stayed on Saturday night and there was a great deal of noise from motorcycles ripping it up.
- Nicolas (1/5): HORRIBLE - Rien !
Fuyez. Fuyez sans hésiter.
Avoid at all costs.
From the very first moment, the welcome is absolutely catastrophic: no greeting, no eye contact, no basic respect. The youngest person simply demands payment, nothing more. Cold, rude, and dismissive.
Then comes the so-called room: a real slum of barely 4 m². The window doesn’t open (it’s broken) and faces a metal building just a few centimeters away. No ventilation, no privacy.
Sleeping is impossible. The bed is a disaster: it creaks at every movement, and the mattress is completely worn out and sunken in the middle. A sleepless night guaranteed.
This is by far the worst accommodation I experienced during one full year of travel, across Latin America and Asia combined. We have stayed in places costing €5 per night that were infinitely better than this.
The value for money is simply catastrophic and totally unjustifiable.
One positive note: the older woman is kind.

Wszystko w jednym miejscu, szybko i bezproblemowo. Dobre WiFi, kilka sieci w jednym obiekcie.

- Stefano (8/5): Nice accommodation in Monteverde - The staff was really friendly, the location was good. The room was really small and on the ground floor - a lot of noise during the night due to animals having fun on the roof
- Jennifer (9/5): Wonderful staff, great location. Beautiful ambience. - Location was perfect. The family rooms were ideal. The set up is very simple yet charming City noise on Saturday night.

- Mieczyslaw (2/5): Not recommending - Location So much… you can hear everything from all the rooms, there was a couple fighting at night and I could hear every single word. The rooms also smelled like public restroom.
- Prabhash (3/5): -
- Megan (8/5): We had a wonderful time! - Very helpful friendly staff, wonderful breakfast, welcoming atmosphere, comfortable breakfast and sitting area. Centrally located and walking distance to great restaurants and sunset views. We stayed in the downstairs rooms which were quite small. The upstairs rooms in the back looked much bigger and opened onto a small deck and sitting area away from the road. Beds are very firm.
- Daniel (5/5): Damp room, nice host. - The host lady was friendly, thank you. She was helpful. Our room was right beside the road , was very small and had a strong smell of damp. For two people, we were constantly falling each other.
- Patrick (9/5): Great Staff and Lovely Stay - Great place, staff are so helpful. Great kitchen and facilities. Really nice shower. Somewhat small but still a good size for two travellers.
- Chun Ting (7/5): - -great location
-clean room The accommodation is next to the main road, it’s quite noisy at night
- Richard (10/5): - Great place, nice staff, comfy beds, decent bathroom, good location.
- Søren (8/5): Good location and good hostess - Location and full of pretty plants and a cute cat, the hostess were very nice and helpful. Size of the bedroom was extra small and the doors were pretty old so they made a lot of noise Everytime someone use them
- Patrycja (10/5): - Amazing place, very friendly family running it, super cosy inside
- Abhinav (10/5): Wonderful! Highly recommend! Thank you Jareth and Marleny!! - We stayed one night at Cabinas El Pueblo, and it was a wonderful experience. Jareth and Marleny were incredibly kind and welcoming—Marleny, especially, was so warm and helpful. They took the time to help us plan our stay in Monteverde and even assisted with booking our coffee tour and night walk, which made everything so much easier.
The facilities are very clean, and the morning coffee is delicious. The kitchen and common areas are well-maintained and tidy, creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The location is also perfect—right in downtown Monteverde, close to everything you might need.
I would happily stay here again any day. Highly recommend! Getting hot water can be a difficult task (could just be the room we were in as well)
- Rachel (6/5): Pleasant stay in Monteverde - Close to the centre of Monteverde and all shops and restaurants. Also not too far from the cloud forest reserves and other activities. Basic but comfortable room. The hard sell by the owner to book tours through her and comments that was the only way trips could be taken locally and that you cousins not access the cloud forests without booking a trip - not true. As with anywhere else you can make your own arrangements.

- bretttroxell (10/5): - Super nice lodge. Great owner. Amazing cat
- Claudia (1/5): No repetiría. - La ubicación La habitación era excesivamente pequeña. No había agua caliente.
- George (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - The host lady is very kind and helpful, providing all the necessary and useful information. The house has a very warm atmosphere, making the visitor feel like at home.
- Mireia (9/5): Good location, great staff and really nice common area. - Very nice room. The common area and the breakfast were awesome. The staff was really really nice. The location is great! It's by the road and the noise of the cars and motorcycles during the night are annoying. At the front desk they have free ear plugs, but they are not enough to have a good rest.
- Laura (7/5): Good value for the price you pay - The location is good! A close walk to the Ficus tree, city centre and the staff will help you booking the right tours. The staff is just the best and will make a fresh cup of coffee/tea during the day and make you feel at home You have to know that it’s right at the street. It’s a good value for what you pay. But still good to know that you’ll hear noise, also during the night and early mornings.
- Degang (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (8/5): Nice stay with friendly staff - Friendly and helpful staff We booked a room with balcony according to booking, but it was without it.
- Marine (9/5): Superb - The rooms are comfortable, easy access and location, the kitchen is big and convenient. It’s peaceful and the host is very helpful.
- Asaf (5/5): Passable -
- Erin (10/5): Great stay! - The grounds were beautiful with all the plants and flowers. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was comfortable, and we had hot water in the shower. The location was very close to a grocery store and many restaurants. We enjoyed our stay very much!
- Gordon (8/5): A trip worth taking. - We loved the friendliness of all of the staff. The whole atmosphere is welcoming. We would not hesitate to return to El Pueblo .Marleny was a perfect host and the breakfast every morning was excellent. Having to leave!
- Kaila (7/5): Good value for the money for sure. - In the middle of all you need within a block or two. Very few places come with parking so it was nice to have somewhere to park and use as a home base for the activities we planned. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to make good food. The beds could use some comfort love, a few things were broken in the room but liveable, and because of the location you’ll have to tolerate the motorcycles outside the windows which can making sleeping difficult. They provide free earplugs 🥹
- Rana (9/5): Superb -
- Lucinda (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was delicious. Staff were helpful
Coffee and tea available all day.
Perfect location Bed was a little firm.
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Excellent location, quiet place, very friendly staff, delicious fruit and jam for breakfast. The owner of the hotel was friendly and helpful, got us good tours, we recommend El Tigre Waterfalls.
- Erica (10/5): Fantastic - Amazing! A group of 6 of us stayed between two rooms. This location is right in town and the host was absolutely amazing. She helped us organize taxis to the cloud forest and gave great recommendations
- Hugh (10/5): Exceptional - The staff are amazing, the room is quiet and the location is tucked away from the busy town, but close enough s you can walk everywhere. The kitchen is really cool and the whole decoration of the hotel is really good- an excellent find in this wonderful town. I would 100% return here.
- Willet (8/5): A great place to stay. - Friendly staff, close to the shops and restaurants, quiet and comfortable. Plus excellent coffee! Nothing.
- Annemarie (8/5): Great value for money - Close to the center. Good shower. Room is big. Our room was next to the road. So lot of noises from the traffic
- Ken (7/5): Good - It is a good location for the restaurants of St Elena. The staff (the owners) were helpful in arranging tours. Breakfasts were good if a little expensive. Motorbikes and disco music we're heard a lot of the night.
- Assadi (7/5): Comparable to F1 french hotel. - Near the down town Near the road...
- Cole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Megan (5/5): I wish I'd booked a different spot in Monteverde. - Front desk gave a great recommendation for a lookout point to watch the sunset. The kitchen area was closed when it was supposed to be open, the front desk reception would park in or block the very few parking spots available to lodgers, the bathroom trash can is quite small and fills quickly because paper towels are supplied instead of hand towels. Trash is not emptied daily by staff. The toilet is RIGHT by the door. If you are large or tall, good luck using it with the door closed.
- Lisa (10/5): Wonderful stay in Cabinas el Pueblo, Santa Elena, Monteverde. - I had the most wonderful room with a view from the balcony where I had sunshine until noon, perfect for breakfast or morning coffee. The staff were ever so nice and helpful and booked several tours for me, as well as giving me good advice about the surrounding areas. I liked the central location and that the facility was super clean. The family and owners also have a coffee farm and the delicious coffee offered on a daily basis (on the house by the way) is cultivated and produced at their farm. They offer a coffee tour to their coffee farm as well. And the staff speak English, if you're not familiar with Spanish. I can't think of anything. Oh, it rained for two days in a row but who's to blame?
- Bridget (6/5): The place and staff are good but the beds need changing - Staff were very helpful and friendly
Location was close to the centre ,, restaurant , bank and shops The bed was too hard ..
- Stephanie (9/5): Sweet and comfortable little b&b - We loved the little living room outside of the downstairs doubles. The location is a 1 minute walk to town and restaurants. Staff is incredibly friendly and makes it a point to remember your name which is a nice touch. It feels very homey and comfortable. The homemade breakfast was wonderful. We got to try tamales for the first time! Breakfast and checkout are much earlier than we are used to. We would have liked to sleep in a bit and hang out in our rooms until our next excursion. They did help us find things to do until our next planned activity.
- Arno (1/5): Bad - Worst place ever.. room was 8 m2.. no place for suitcases our walk around the bed. Bathroom stinks and toilet didnt flush so it was a mess.. very bad experience.
- Gayle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matt (8/5): Very good - Great friendly staff, breakfast was nice it would have been nice to have a lamp or better lighting in the room
- Caitlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Justine (6/5): Met expectations; basic and in great location; lovely breakfast. - Great breakfast; super friendly and helpful staff. This is a budget hostel/B and B and met expectations of such.
- Frances (10/5): Exceptional - The very cozy room and shared spaces. The staff are so friendly and helpful.
- Mathias (7/5): Good for a short stay - Location, activities and staff and almost breakfast was very good A lot of noise during the night, very expensive activities, and also during the night the light right at out window to sleep is unpleasant but hey we make do
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (8/5): Excellent value accommodation with a lovely welcome - Lovely and helpful welcome and we especially liked the swing chairs for relaxing. Great position in a lovely town. We were in the front bedrooms which were a little close to the road and quite noisy.
- Beth (10/5): Comfortable room and caring hosts made our time in Monteverde wonderful. - We felt very welcomed! The coffee tour was amazing, and we felt that the staff was willing in every way to make sure our stay was happy. Everything was wonderful.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
