Guest Reviews
- Emil15 (10/5): - I had a wonderful time at Kolamba Gedara. The homestay is situated just outside of the town, ensuring quiet and peaceful nights while still being close enough for you to walk if you wanted to. If you prefer a tuk tuk, it's about 200 LKR each way.
The hosts are wonderful and will do everything in order for you to have the best possible stay. The food is delicious and the portions are massive. You definitely won't go hungry in this place.
You will find many places to walk/hike to in the surrounding area. I highly recommend Hakurugala Temple (Indiana Jones vibes) and Sri Shailabimbaramaya Temple (beautiful views and the largest granite sleeping Buddha statue in the world). Everything was great.
Een echt home away from home! Niets, we vonden alles fijn!
- Trek_the_world (10/5): - The host and the ambiance.
- Marisol (10/5): Exceptional - Monti (who handles the bookings and communications), is reliable, easy to talk to and always available to answer any questions. Even after I left the homestay he would make sure i was doing well in Sri lanka!
Lakmini and MG (the parents who live in the homestay and are the hosts) were warm, accommodating, friendly. I felt right at home, like I was visiting relatives.
The meals were delicious and local cuisines, (i love spicey food so enjoyed this however if you don't like spice, it can be adapted for you!). There is a lot to learn from these hosts: growing many different plants, making and selling their own spices, offering cooking classes if you're interested and enjoying their beautiful home.
The room was spacious, lots of natural light, airy and well equipped with a large fan for warmer nights.
Will definitely return with my mum on my next trip to Sri Lanka!!
As a solo female traveller, it was a great place to stay and would 10/10 recommend for solo travellers but also any kind of tourist.
Thank you! N/A
- Nina (10/5): Family friendliness you can feel ❤️ - Lakini and MG were excellent hosts, who both spoke good english. We felt us very taken care of and we felt the love they had for their house and family. Lovely, safe stay. Than you, Lakini and MG!
- Cchiarat (10/5): Exceptional - I had a wonderful stay at this accommodation and truly felt at home! The place is quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxing and recharging. The hosts, Lakmini and MG, are incredibly kind and helpful, always making sure I had everything I needed. My room was spacious and had all the essentials for a comfortable stay. Everything was spotless, and the food was absolutely delicious.
I will definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend this place to everyone! :)
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, staff very nice and helpful. Food excellent facilities good Nothing. Everything good
- Kareno57 (10/5): Exceptional - Our welcome at kolamba gedara was heart warming, and our stay there memorable. Only one night but now I know I'll be back when I have a few days to spend in this heaven of peace in the delightful company of the hosts. Also for the amazing food!! A quiet paradise where the lush nature is at your doorstep. Nothing
- Daniel (10/5): Great homely stay - An amazing couple is running the place. very warm, kind and welcoming i felt right at home. food was great and the room comfortable. the location is exact on the google maps but the route isnt detailed on the app so ask for directions if arriving independently. highly recommended! no hot water in the shower.
- Froukje (10/5): Exceptional - The people of the accommodation where very friendly and helpful and kind. They feld like grandparents to the children.
The food was absolutely tasty. One of the best in Shri Lanka.
It was a pleasure to stay here.
- Ella (9/5): Short but sweet :) - The hosts were so lovely! Very welcoming, they made us an authentic breakfast and had a lovely home Not much!
- Weronika (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the hospitality of the whole family that made us feel like we are a part of the family. The food: breakfast, lunches and dinners home cooked are delicious, made with love and care! The area is beautiful, you can easily rest in nature and reach many waterfalls. The rooms are perfect, clean well prepared with mosquito nets, towels etc. I hope to come back one day.
- Diara (10/5): The most comforting space I have ever spent time in! - It is a beautiful home. The owners Lakmini and MG are among some of the kindest souls I have ever met. In fact, I spent my first whole week just in their presence because I enjoyed their company so much!
I also really loved Lakmini’s meals - everything was extremely tasty. I am now a super fan of Sri Lankan food. I can wait to return and with friends.
- Daan (8/5): Very good - We only stayed one night before going to Negombo. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The shared bathroom was also clean. We had dinner and breakfast, both times it was good and more than enough. We could park the tuktuk in front of the house under a roof. The room is open. There are openings at the roof and windows so mosquitos come in, which would be okay if there was a net around the bed to protect yourself.
Maybe a desk and chair in the room would be nice, as well as some hooks to hang things.
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - One of the best stays we had. Really friendly hosts, the even showed us how to cook tradiotional Sri Lankan Food. Relly nice Family
- Prudvi (10/5): Such a beautiful stay- budget friendly. Host is super helpful - 1st day in Srilanka for us, met Monty who owns this property. Such an amazing guy and very kind full parents. Uncle and aunty are very kind and patient to answer all queries and guide us through plan our sightseeing.
Property is located in midst of lush greenery. Felt like dream home with pets, fish pond etc. Nothing to comment. Simply perfect
- Alok (10/5): Hosts like Family - We had a wonderful stay at Tropical Village in the Woods, enjoyed a typical Sri Lankan family vibe. The cooking class experience at All Manual Kitchen was exceptional. Had the opportunity to learn how to cook Sri Lankan rice and curries using a wood fire and clay pots. Don't forget to try the coconut roti with mushroom curry. Did some fish therapy at hidden waterfall in the middle of the.village. We couldn't stay more, wish we had more time.
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean and comfortable room. A balcony with a very nice view. And the hospitality was incredible. Best guesthouse to experience authentic sri lankian life.
- Salima (9/5): Superb - Perfect peaceful place inside the green field and forest, out of the town but not far the perfect balance to isolate and relax. Charming family with beautiful hearts always ready to share and smile at you. There's a big balcony where you can site and admire the symphony of life. I would definitely recommend, very good value for money.
- Rodriguez (10/5): I really enjoyed my journeys in Kolamba Gedara. I wish more people could enjoy the same experience that I had. - The place is so calm, the people is gentle.
Being sorrounded by nature -
- Victor (10/5): Amazing place - Everything was amazing! This place is absolutely perfect! The area is wonderful ! Many thing to visit around!
And the owner are so kind, so generous! It was a pleasure to talk with them!
Thanks again
- Fred (9/5): Just want to come back again - Amazing hosts, so generous , we are feeling like home
Typical Sri Lankan food, made with love and generosity
What a nice experience, thanks again Nothing
- Igor (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, friendly host family, rainforest vibes :)
- René (10/5): Exceptional - The place is really a "homestay" as you feel fully integrated into the daily life of the family.
Lakhmini was preparing great and daily changing food, MG is always down for a chat and Monti, the families son and manager will show you around when he is back at his families place for a visit.
The place is really clean and spacious, offers a lush green view and good air circulation during night and day.
Probably the most silent nights throughout the country as it is located in a dead end road of a local village.
You can find peace and also some remote activities nearby in this really untouristy area. Whatever issue, just tell them and they will improve it as soon as possible
