Guest Reviews
- Paddy (9/5): - Friendly owner who had milk for us and fire going when we arrived. No dislikes!
- Florabel (8/5): -
- Claire (8/5): Perfect location to explore the area . Well equipped and very dog friendly. Great touch that the log burner was lit on o - Great location. Spotlessly clean and very cosy. Nothing
- Carina (10/5): Lovely farm house, beautiful location & 100% recommend. - Everything!
Lovely location, wonderfully dog friendly and so nice to be around the farm animals.
Lovely hosts.
Will def stay again! Nothing!
- Alexander Va (8/5): - The location is great, the owner very helpful, and the house has everything you need and stays nice and cool in the summer. Dog howling in the early morning can be a challenge for those looking to sleep in. Dogs are very friendly buy loud when you arrive. Something climbs about the roof space at night which can be an issue for some but it is a farm so to be expected.
- Watling (8/5): Memorable stay, we want to go back. - Cottage selected as it was close to attractions/moorland walks and town we wanted to see.
Cottage is on characterful cattle farm with dogs, cats and ducks.
Hosts are great. Bathroom needs a little improvement.
- Lisa (10/5): - We loved everything about our stay - the cottage is beautiful, clean, cosy and well equipped. There are lots of little extras too - coffee pods and tea, dog treats, and a log burner. The runner ducks, swallows and hares were an added bonus. It was convenient for our weekend activities (Alton Towers and Buxton) and in stunning countryside. We thoroughly recommend staying here and hope to come back. We recommend taking slippers for the tile kitchen floor which is chilly underfoot.
- Barbara (9/5): Very well organised and lovely dogs - It was a special treat to return to the property with subdued lighting and the log fire lit, thank you
- Rachael (10/5): Peaceful getaway in the countryside - Amazing location, the dogs and animals really made it for us so lovely to wake up in a peaceful setting and be greeted by the dogs! Super cosy and lovely!
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Steve (10/5): - Fantastic hosts, cottage and location. Have stayed here a few times and highly recommend it. If you get chance, walk to the top of the farm to view the sunset. You won't be disappointed
- Tim (10/5): -
- Abigail (10/5): Stunning country stay! - Everything was perfect đ from the wood burning stove, that was already lit when we arrived to the beautiful setting. Beautiful rooms with a cottage feel but all modern fittings. The hosts were in touch with all information and couldnât be more helpful. Nothing.
- Adam (8/5): - Owners were lovely, had the fire running for us. Perfect. Bath tub was too narrow for a bath, but still fine for a shower.
The primary bedroom bed was quite short, my legs were hitting a wooden end which was quite uncomfortable.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Cosy - So cosy! Perfect location for our plans! Great communication with host Nothing it was just what we wanted!
- Charles (10/5): Staffordshire is a most underrated county! - The farm is quite quirky( we like that!). The Old Stable was immaculate inside and very comfortable. The fire was lit for us upon arrival. The area is a delight, and the views quite spectacular!! The cottage was well equipped, very tastefully decorated and a wonderful base for our holiday!!! Nothing. It was perfect
- Jessica (8/5): Great hosts and lovely cottage. - Lovely place to stay, all rooms were big. The whole cottage was clean. We were free to explore the farm, the kids and dog loved being able to wander when weâre were there. Nothing
- Tillyrose (10/5): The most perfect stay to clear your mind. - It was such a beautiful stable, with amazing attention to detail! lovely animals on site and amazing owners.
- Victoria (10/5): Beautiful location on a working farm. We were so lucky to stay here. - Absolutely amazing property. The hosts were amazing and the location was brilliant. We had an amazing time and couldnât have asked for anything more.
- Steve (10/5): -
- Dave (9/5): Splendid short sat over -
- Nickie (9/5): Great location, beautiful scenery and a lovely place to stay. - Lovely location, friendly hosts and dogs. Nothing.
- Leigh-Anne (10/5): A quiet, cosy place to stay. - It was very cosy and a nice quiet location but close to lots of things to do. Nothing, it was lovely.
- martin (10/5): Stu and Rosie are lovely people. IïżŒ really enjoyed my stay. - You really saw what life was like on a working farm. Nothing
- Anna (9/5): Charming getaway - Location was great, rooms were lovely, loved the log burner.. Rosie and Stu were very friendly Not a dislike, we just didnt realise before we arrived that the log burner has a water jacket which is responsible for heating the whole property. So a good fire needs to be going for at least an hour to get heat into the other rooms. Obviously this is only the case when staying in colder months. It is part of its charm but can mean v chilly mornings until you get the fire going for a while. Logs and coal are provided an no extra cost.
- Naiomi (10/5): -
- Louise (6/5): A sweet old cottage with lovely hosts - Easy location to find, on a lovely working farm. The property was nice, the lounge especially was really lovely and cosy. The bathroom had all the supplies you'd need and was always warm with the boiler being in there. Fab location for local walks such as the Roaches and Thors cave. As a plus for the kids, the WiFi was really good, and the TV had netflix , Disney etc available for us to login to. Welcoming gifts of chocolate and biscuits was a lovely touch, thank you. Need to keep the fire going constantly, and has to be very hot for the radiators to kick in. Opening the door though filled the room with smoke so ended up opening the windows a lot! Think we mastered it by the end of the second day though. (Would have probably asked for assistance if we were staying any longer and the hosts would definitely have helped , but we only stayed for 3 days)
- Adam (9/5): Cozy weekend retreat - Lovely property about a 5 minute drive from Leek. Cozy living room with large log burner. Also very close to the Roaches and Lud Church. Perfect weekend retreat.
- Owen (9/5): - Quiet and cosy
- Zainab (8/5): Cosy cottage with very friendly and welcoming hosts in the Peaks. - The cottage was lovely and clean, rooms well furnished and cosy, hosts were welcoming and responsive when we needed help with the log fire. Had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.
- robin (9/5): Lovely, short break in the peaks - Great location for hiking in the general area Unfortunately, we could not get the log stove to light properly, as I think the wood was slightly damp and didnât catch alight
- Andrew (9/5): Rusic, comfortable, attractive cottage which we would recommend - Rustic farm cottage, cosy lounge with wood burner, comfy beds, hot water The radiators didnât come on, although we werenât too fussed
- Simone (10/5): A very peaceful break away, with home comforts and some quality family time - Characterful
Beautiful interior
Great location
Lovely hosts Nothing
- Concannon (10/5): -
- Kate (10/5): OMG! We absolutely loved our stay at Blackshaw Farm! - We came for a family weekend with our moms and our golden retriever, and to my surprise, there were four more goldies and a lab! Love that! đŸ
We spent our days walking around, enjoying nature, going on a couple of hikes, and relaxing outdoors. The host recommended a lovely local pub, big thank you for that, the food was amazing!
Evenings by the fireplace, chatting and laughing with family, were the perfect way to end the day.
Thank you so much for such a warm and welcoming stay. Weâll definitely be back!
- Ray (8/5): -
- Christina (10/5): -
- Jeekabs (10/5): Very pleasant and comfortable stay in quite and calm country side location. - Property is in a wonderful and quite location and host was very accommodating with our late arrival and anything we needed throughout the stay.
It was a genuinely pleasant stay and I would love to return. Would have been great to know about the possibility of Trial Bike experience beforehand. We might have joined.
- Jessica (2/5): Old and tired - We had no welcome from the owners. The property was extremely tired, dusty and sad.
It needed some work as the toilet sloped, the bath board was blown the towel rail pealing.
The crockery looked depleted. We had to search for the information for Internet connection. No notes of welcome.
In short not your usual recommended standard.
- Gillian (9/5): - It was really relaxing being surrounded by the countryside. There were so many things to do in the local area, we didn't have to drive far. Everyone at the farm were very friendly, and our two little dogs were fine with the farm dogs, our dog's can be a bit barky and worried, but there was no problem. There was everything you needed in the accommodation, and the beds were lovely and comfortable. We will stay again next time we are in the area. Nothing
- Daniel (8/5): Very pleasant. Really close to leek. And good food nearby - The friendly welcome from the doggies. Couldnât get t.v to work which we were not that bothered by. got a wifi code.
- Gillian (8/5): - Great location, close to Peak District and Leek. Rural working farm, with animals and dogs, and rustic cottage, nicely furnished, very comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. We were allowed to wander anywhere we liked, which included moorland and lakes. The grandchildren enjoyed climbing on the vintage tractors and going on an adventure walk. Some people might find the occasional trail bike activity intrusive, but it didn't bother us, in fact husband was VERY interested in the motorbikes and other vintage vehicles.
- Katerina (10/5): Lovely location, cottage and owners. - Really lovely cottage with everything we needed for a long weekend stay.
- Natasha (10/5): - Location, friendly family and dogs
- Antonina (10/5): Dogs, cows, friendly hosts - great stay! - Great stay - friendly host, lots of room for our family of four, fully stocked kitchen, and super friendly dogs. We really enjoyed our stay Nothing
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alice (10/5): A lovely cosy cottage in the Peak District - Very clean, tidy and cosy cottage. Perfect for a short stay. The owner was very accommodating and lit the fire for us on arrival and we were warm all night!
We visited with our two friends for my birthday and took a short 5 minute walk down the farm track to the local Country Inn for our evening meal, absolutely wonderful. Nothing bad to say, lovely stay!
- Filep (10/5): Too short! We need to come back! - Quaint, cozy, beautifully decorated, cool in the summer and I imagine warm in the winter. Had everything we needed. Dog friendly, and they had a cot set up for us for my friends 2 year old. My golden retriever Humphrey was shocked to see 3 other goldies and 1 black lab! It was doggy heaven for everyone! The dogs were incredibly well behaved. I met the owners as well and they were amazing. Nothing to say at all
- Peter (10/5): Lovely place! - Lovely place , clean.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean , tidy and comfortable Nothing
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (10/5): Beautiful, cosy, impeccably clean and relaxing home - Amazingly clean, beautiful and comfortable property ⊠we had an absolutely gorgeous, relaxing break. The lounge with log burner is extremely cosy and beautifully decorated ⊠kitchen is large with a lovely dining table ⊠and the bedrooms are super comfy, clean and relaxing. Large bathroom with both bath and shower ⊠gorgeous squishy carpet throughout the stairs and landing. Easy, free, safe parking right outside your door and lovely responsive hosts made us feel so welcome. Amazing property for the perfect relaxing break in the countryside.
- Lianne (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little stable, log burner was set up and going for us when we arrived so it was all cosy and warm. Plenty of parking and in the most peaceful location. It was very novel to be woken (not too early) by cows mooing.
Great welcome book with all the information needed and the history of the old stable. Kitchen was fully equipped, beds super comfy and a nice hot shower. Lovely pub with a brilliant spa up the road which is walkable. Perfect little night away to recharge. Thanks for a lovely stay.
- Kevin (7/5): Friendly host and great location. - The host were lovely, Rosie lit the fire for us each evening so we had a warm fire lounge when we returned. We had access to an unlimited supply of coal and wood for the fire. The property is in an ideal location and the ownersâ dogs and cats are very friendly. It was rather cold during our visit and the central heating which is run off the wood burner, did little to heat the rest of the house despite our best efforts. I guess this wouldnât have been an issue if the weather hadnât been so cold. The description of the property and the photos say there is a washing machine, there isnât one. Which if you were expecting one would be a disappointment.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (7/5): Good -
- Martin (10/5): Hoping to return soon - Location was fantastic. Beautiful cottage. Stu was a friendly interesting host.
- Goddard (7/5): Great place and thoroughly enjoyed our stay but heating was an issue. - Great location and lovely place with more than enough room for a group of 4 plus a dog. The heating for the house is reliant on the fire and we struggled to get the firing going on multiple occasions - we think this may have been due to the firewood provided as when we used our own wood that we bought from the shop the fire started a lot easier.
Also when we did have the fire going, the majority of the radiators still remained ice cold. This meant the temperature of the place was extremely cold.
- Douglas (9/5): Superb - Lovely cozy cottage, very well kept in a very picturesque setting. It was a bit cold in the morning, as the heating is based around the stove, however the owners were very helpful in providing large amounts of coal and logs, once the fire got going the cottage was very cozy.
- Scott (10/5): Exceeded expectations - We loved everything about the property. The rooms, style, location etc. It was everything we were hoping for. The owner was also lovely and allowed us to walk our dog on his land which was stunning and vast. Already planning on staying again.
- Victoria (9/5): A cosy cottage to meet friends at, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - A very cosy cottage with two double rooms, perfect for a few days
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb -
- Rachel (7/5): Very pleasant except for the heating issue - Nicely appointed and comfortable. The log made the burner made the lounge snug and warm Unable to get heat to the radiators so was very cold away except for the lounge. It would be helpful to have clear instructions on how to generate enough heat to get the hot water circulating to the radiators.
- Beth (10/5): Makes you want to move to the peaks! - Love, love, LOVE this place!
So cosy. Stu lit the fire for us before our arrival. The property was well kitted out. Candles, blankets and wonderful smells!
Lots of games in the property!
And OMG the dogs!!! Perfect, sweet, cuddly babies!! Donât be deterred if they bark, theyâre sweet hearts! Nothing itâs perfect!
- Millie (10/5): Fantastic cosy cottage, bigger than I expected. Super friendly hosts and doggies. -
- Julie (9/5): Perfect - Real N/a
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Great location for walking and Leek. Cottage is very cozy. Farm dogs and cat are the friendliest bunch ever. Nothing.
- Tania (8/5): Enjoyable and cosy (when fire is on). - Very cosy, felt like a home, friendly hosts and dogs, fire on in living room before we arrived and fully equipped kitchen. Cold in the morning as heating was powered by the wood burner.
- Eleanor (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely, cosy property and great hosts. The cottage is well decorated and furnished and very comfortable, we could have happily stayed longer!
- Richard (10/5): A great getaway - A lovely spot in the heart of the countryside with great views yet easy access to Leek and other local amenities. The Old Stable has everything you might need for a comfortable stay and although it is only a few hundred yards from the main Buxton road, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of nowhere. Hosts are friendly, as are the dogs and cattle. A longer stay would have been nice!
- Helen (8/5): Very nice, recommend. -
- Alice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (7/5): Good location for visiting the area - Location suited us Fairly basic accommodation, though very clean and tidy; cold on arrival, and central heating only worked through wood burner stove, which took a long time to heat up, therefore it did not warm up during our brief stay. Water pressure very poor, bath took ages to fill, and electric shower temperamental and inadequate. Milk promised but not provided on arrival, had to find someone in the farmyard who fetched some for us.
- Debbie (10/5): Comfortable,, clean and good location -
- Rob (10/5): Excellent pfroperty for short stay. Thank you. - Everything was good. Werent sure about the dogs in the farm yard but they were no trouble at all
- Claire (8/5): Very good - Very comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean. Great value for money
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely quaint cottage. Clean, well equipped, easy check in. Space to park. We didn't use the log burner but I can imagine how lovely and cosy it would have been to sit by the fire for the evening. Nothing.
- Louise (10/5): Fab stay helpful family - Lovely property very tranquil Really nice cottage
- Munira (8/5): Lovely short stay within a stones throw of great walks and pub/spa/restaurant - Clean, great location and well furnished There are four dogs that sleep outside the premises. Nb. They are friendly with people. But it was very difficult using the property to its fullest potential with our dogs - the pack of 4 dogs would come barking all the way to our car (one quite aggressively), so to avoid any dog reactivity, we never left on foot with our dogs and put them straight into our car, even for short dog walks. This did put a bit of a damper on our stay, so is worth noting if you too are coming with dogs, as we werenât comfortable even using the enclosed small courtyard with them always hovering. Shame as the weather was on our side that weekend too!
- Mark (10/5): If you like dogs, and friendly people this cottage is the perfect place to stay. - Cosy, warm and comfortable and the hosts were so welcoming and helpful, the girls even got to feed Goliath the calf before he went to bedđ It was Perfect
- Kirstie (9/5): Great base to explore from or hunker down in for cosy getaway. - Great location & friendly hosts, v clean & comfy, well presented.
- Oksana (10/5): Fabulous! - Rosie and Stuart made everything possible and beyond for us to enjoy or stay. The location is superb close to lakes above the farm and spectacular views as well exploring the Roaches. We enjoyed seeing the farms cows and some babies. The 4 dogs and 3 cats really added to our fabulous experience. There was also a cute pub just a few minutes walk from the farm. Perfect location and host. Thank you guys
- Erika (8/5): Perfect and cosy farm stay! - The old stable was perfect for us! The location was great, it was extremely well equipped and the hosts were very friendly. We were even provided with logs and firelighters to use the log burner which was very cosy.
Beds really comfortable and the house was so clean and tidy!
Really enjoyed our stay, felt right at home and wished we could have stayed longer. The only point worth raising was that (due to the property being on a farm) there was quite a bit of noise from the cows and dogs! It wasnât a huge issue and possibly only recognised as we slept with the windows open, but worth a mention!
- Chao (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (8/5): Great base for the roaches - Great location for exploring the roaches, Leek isn't too far either. Farm easy to find, hosts sent clear messages beforehand. Gorgeous dogs roaming on site, saying hello and coming for a pet, was lovely to see them playing. House was very clean and welcoming. It's a little chilly inside, but we didn't feel the need for the log fire, just a jumper. The bed was also very warm, I personally don't enjoy memory foam mattresses so that was my only complaint, still slept well! The only very very minor thing is the tin on the bathroom wall, such a cute decor but hit my head on the bottom handle spitting my toothpaste out. Could also just be me...
- Ldraelady (10/5): Exceptional - Nice clean cosy and comfortable.. will book again
- James (10/5): Lovely cottage-style stay in a great location -
- Tina (10/5): Lovely place to stay especially if you have dogs. - Location and views. Size and comfort of the accommodation. Access to all of farm for dogs but also a secure courtyard at front of accommodation. Information provided prior to arrival was good. Proactively advised us that accommodation was available early. Nothing.
- Mr (10/5): A very clean and comfortable property with great amenities and perfect location. - The property was very clean, quiet and comfortable. We couldnât fault anything
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, lovely location, cosy cottage and love the farm animals, we even had an unplanned visit from the cattle đ„° Nothing
- Merica (9/5): I had a lovely relaxing stay đ - Peaceful, secure & out of the way, but close to the town & sites of interest.
Very dog friendly đ
- Xingyu (8/5): Very good -
- Alexander (7/5): We had a great stay (and great weather). Very friendly hosts and we loved the dogs. - Clean and comfortable rooms in spectacular countryside. Stu and Rosie were helpful and always available for questions. Rosie had prepared a great breakfast/welcome pack. The heating worked in a way I had not seen since the 70âs. It is OK if you are fine with coal or wood burning heating.
- Elaine (10/5): Fabulous farmhouse with a warm welcome. - The friendly welcome of the lovely lady and her wonderful dogs. The cottage was cosy and had everything we needed for our stay. It was cold when the fire wasnât on (great British weather doesnât help!) but it didnât ruin our stay.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Kuntal (9/5): stay and hosts were excellent - It was in the country side Could have been a bit cheaper
- Vicky (10/5): Exceptional -
