- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Property was , quote by my lad cool, bottom bedroom as the lowest doorway I seen, that ties in with the property, beds well comfy, Nowt
- Chris (9/5): Excellent cottage for keen walkers - Lovely cottage in a good position for Peak District walks Nothing
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rowbotham (10/5): Exceptional - Little Jockey was a lovely old building that had been converted into a great place to stay
- Danny (9/5): Superb - It was a very cosy and warm place with ample amount of room for us. The host was more than accommodating. Would 100% recommend.
- Susan (10/5): Lovely cosy accommodation, great for any length get away. - Great location for Peak District and walking. Nice clean accommodation, comfortable chairs, well equipped. Warm, well lit. Easy access. calming decor, just right, no garish pictures. Nice flower arrangements.
Very quiet area, only dog walkers came past.
The property had and interesting history being a conversion from the basement of an old pub. Renovated to very high standard with many original features. Bed was very rattley every time we we moved especially near the edge there was a squeaking and rattle.
I'm sure the other bedroom would have been more comfortable but it had a low doorway and I thought if I moved quickly I would bang my head.
- Alex (8/5): Warm, welcoming and cosy - Fantastic location for lovely, rural walks and for a trip over to Buxton. We loved relaxing in the lounge on the super comfy sofa with the blankets provided! We are both quite tall (and I clumsy) which meant a lot of banging heads as there are low ceilings and beams haha!
- John (9/5): Fantastic accommodation in a wonderful location and a very helpful host throughout booking & rental - Fantastic location close to amazing village pub. Incredible area for walking and photography. Very well equipped and excellent Wi-Fi. Host communication was 1st Class throughout the booking and rental period! Lack of a small microwave oven for quick heating of food items but not really an issue but would have been helpful and would save on power usage.
- Céline (5/5): Not our favourite but nice surroundings - The walking trails surrounding the property are lovely, the village is small, the parking is good and Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are just a 40 minute drive away across the beautiful Peak District hills.
Parking was available for us all the nights we stayed here (lucky?) 200 meters away on Chapel Lane by the yellow salt box on the side off the road.
The kitchen looks new and is well equipped.
Contact with the owner is very easy, there are clear instructions and in the guestbook there are tips and recommondations. The property is located in a small village and the entry off the property is on a side road of a very busy road.
The property itself has low ceiling heights (in some places extremely low!) and it smells damp and moldy.
Unfortunately the windows in the living cannot open because the keys are lost said the host, so we had the front door open all the time to get some fresh air (luckily it was summer weather) and we brought a fan.
There is one bedroom off the kitchen with no windows and since the kitchen has no windows either and a recirculating hood and no exhaust hood, I would not recommend sleeping there if you just cooked a meal (maybe not sleep there anyway since you have no fresh air).
I cleaned the filters in the exhaust hood since they smelled terribly and I removed a ton of ice from the freezer so that our food could fit in there.
The living, kitchen and secondary bedroom feel a bit like a basement. The primary bedroom has a window that opens to a street that has some traffic (driving way too fast!) on it in the early morning. The bed makes a loud noise every time you turn.
The whole property has timber beams on the ceilings that attract a lot of spiders and there are cobwebs everywhere.
There is no possibility to turn on and start the central heating system in the property yourself.
The bathroom has a shower exhaust fan that does absolutely nothing and has so much dust in it which I tried to clean (and failed). The shower thermostat does not work or is fixed on a max temperature because you cannot get the water to get warmer only colder then a certain setting.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, comfortable, nicely appointed, fantastic location.
- Paulina (8/5): Overall nice stay. - Nice little cottage, good location, very communicative owner, great direction and instruction. Unfortunately I have to repeat previous comments…Shower head needs attention and definitely replacement, very squeaky bed is noisy in the night, I found oven very dirty (couldn’t use it) and also microwave it would be nice to have.
- Judy (10/5): An enjoyable break - The location is ideal for walking in the Peak District. The cottage is cosy with space for hanging up wet outerwear. We welcomed the introductory video which Michael provided before our arrival
- Robert (9/5): Authentic cosy cottage - Loved the cottage, oak beams and stone walls, very authentic. Great WiFi too and Netflix was a nice bonus. Perfect location to drive to Macclesfield and get the train into Manchester. Fabulous. Parking, shame there's no on site parking, but there is street parking fairly close
- Verena (8/5): Blissfully cosy and clean - The location peace and quiet Lumpy pillows
- Brad (4/5): Disappointing facilities, beds and lack of ambient lighting could have made it as cosy as described. - The location was good. It was warm and the timber framed construction features were a nice touch. The host was very welcoming via communications prior to arrival. The shower needs replacing. The beds were rigid and the bed frame in the master bedroom was very squeaky. I appreciate the property is old and converted but the lack of natural lighting could have been tackled better with ambient lighting in the living room. The windows in the living room didn’t open either which wasn’t good in our opinion. I would again point out the ceiling height might cause some issues in the cellar room so beware!
- Gary (10/5): Loved it,pure perfection. When I'm working local to little jockey it'll be 1st on list. - I really have to say,I liked everything.
What a wonderful place to stay.
Like me,I'm sure future guests will do as I did and kind of fall in love with the place. The fact I only booked it for 1 week,
I wished I'd booked for 2 weeks instead.
- Maria (8/5): Fab location, cosy and warm accommodation with a nice cottage feel. - Lovely and warm, comfortable settee, good throw overs, nice large TV, modern kitchen and the location of the property. Lack of some basic flat cooking trays in kitchen, and the beds were very noisy every time you moved, the bed slats must need tightening, a table lamp in living room would be useful we used the one from the bedroom. Couldn't open the windows in the living room at all as keys have gone missing.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darcy (10/5): Exceptional - Really easy to find, well equipped and just as described. Micheal was on hand to answer any questions and was really quick to get back to me if I needed any help with anything at all.
There’s no parking but there’s residential streets and we parked literally a 30 second walk away and was easy to find parking. Nothing
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bolt_panther (6/5): Good location and nice local walks - The property is in a lovely picturesque location with access to local walks through farmland and countryside. We used an app to find a local walk and it was perfectly placed for this. The facilities are good there is access to a washing machine and dishwasher (tablets provided) and Netflix on the TV. The apartment in general was clean (such as the kitchen) but there were some other issues which I will expand upon below. The host was good with excellent communication - there was a clear guidebook and the door was controlled by a passcode which was good and secure. There is a nearby pub called the Robin Hood Inn which is within walking distance and is great for food/atmosphere/drinks. Aside from this you would need to drive just 10 mins to reach the nearest town. The property is good value for money. There were a few small things that detracted from this stay which I would like to highlight for improvement.
- The first thing was that there was a bit of an issue with woodlice in the bedroom/bathroom area in particular. We came back from the pub on the first night and there were lots of them over the floor which I had to place outside. There are some pest control plugins around the property but this didn't appear to stop them as they seemed to be coming in/out from under the skirting board.
- This is a smaller issue but the shower floods very quickly and I think the drain needs to be sorted. The mobile shower head also pulls the attachment backwards when you place it in to sit and shoots water over the top of the door.
- The bed in the high-ceiling bedroom was incredibly creaky on one side which made it really difficult to sleep. There is another bedroom but this is an old cellar and so the ceiling was very low which was not really workable with taller guests.
- Laszlo (10/5): Exceptional - Convenient location. Spacious apartment. Well equipped kitchen. The bed was really comfortable. Michael the host was really friendly and helpful. We will be back.
- Karen (10/5): Excellent cottage - The property was lovely and kept very clean with lots of facilities - a great stay! Village was very quaint with lots of nice walks
- Robert (8/5): All in all a great place for us to stay. Very clean and comfortable. - Beautiful place. The small doorways
- Atkin (8/5): A much needed short break with the bonus of ' graveyard' success. Great for exploring the area - the location proved to be just right for the purpose of our visit we were tracing our ancestors and found a grave in Chapel on le Frith of a Great x 5 Uncle We enjoyed food at the local pup The Robin Hood Tiny thing...... parking bit iffy but managed to find a slot both nights and we were warned. Arrived on a Tuesday only to find pub shut we should have checked but a heads up would have been good, it shuts Mon and Tue
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Such a cosy little cottage, clean, spacious, and great view from bedroom window - it was very cosy and well equipped with everything we needed. shower was a little tight but did us fine just for 2 nights
- Lize (10/5): Quaint cottage in quiet village - Michael the host sent us a lovely video beforehand which explained the entry & parking, so it was a breeze to check in. The property is quaint & cosy, well stocked kitchen & super quiet. The only thing I would mention is the ceiling & entrances are quite low, so for tall people this could be a problem.
- Kara (8/5): Lovely stay - The host was very friendly , property was very clean, we had a lovely stay.
- Chantel (9/5): perfect for local hiking routes, lovely get away and great host who goes above and beyond. -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Well equipped with everything you would need. Exceptionally clean and very quiet.
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharna (10/5): Beautiful Cottage in a beautiful location - Lovely clean well equipped cottage in a beautiful location Low ceilings but as expected only banged our heads once, never did it again!! This is all explained on booking and never put us off just adds to the character.
- Karen (9/5): Superb - Immaculate cosy and very charming. Just loved the location and would definitely stay again. Just perfect I main bed was hard but i had taken a mattress topper just incase so this solved the problem but everything else was perfect.
- Charlie (9/5): It was fab. - All lovely. Hook for shower needs tightening but wasn’t a problem for us.
- Anonymous (10/5): it was a lovely, wish we could’ve stayed longer. - was very homely nothing
