- Stefan (9/5): Comfortable place with well maintained rooms - - Fantastic room with a huge balcony / terrace (shared with the adjacent room) facing the river
- Flyscreens on all windows and balcony door protect against insects coming into the room
- Quiet neighborhood
- Not too far to walk to restaurants and grocery stores
- Friedly host Payment only in cash or via Interac bank transfer
- Celine (8/5): -

- Shelby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (9/5): Superb -
- Kathy (9/5): Riverside house with extraordinary art in lovely airy rooms. - Gorgeous setting by the river; and Gilbert’s travel library is extensive.
- Jill (10/5): Gilbert is an excellent host. The place is lovely. We loved our balcony and the river below. -
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (4/5): Disappointing - It was a nice town, the property was in a nice location. The room was clean and the bathroom was large. The aggressive host who spoke to me in French and criticized me for not speaking French immediately put me off. I could smell alcohol on his breath and he demanded cash payment or electronic funds transfer immediately upon demanding I change my shoes into a pair of crocs. I am from the states so this change in culture approach had me uncomfortable right from the startm He then tried to sell me African clothing to fund his next trip when giving me a tour of the house. At 2 AM I was then woken by the sounds of what could be described at metal being cut on a table saw in the backyard.
- Dorota (9/5): Superb -
- Catlow (8/5): Very good - Beautiful home with a great location next to the river with a great balcony, and near the town center. Tea/coffee access would be nice for the morning but not critical
- Po (8/5): Expect a lovely nice room & pretty surrounds. Must pay cash or e-transfer only! - There was no breakfast as we thought was advertised and no coffee or any refreshment whatsoever. The room and property were excellent but we were disappointed with there being absolutely no other benefit. Though the sign says cyclists are welcome, the storage was poorly considered. You must pass through a narrow path with bushes in the way to get under a rickety porch with garden equipment strewn about.
- Rafael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julia (8/5): It had a surprisingly peaceful and remote feeling for our overnight stay. I would recommend it. - Nice gardens and interesting house along a river. It was clean and comfortable with plenty of outdoor areas for guests.
- Mirela (9/5): Cool place, lots of character - Cute place with lots of personality / character. The owner is very nice and quite chatty. Room is clean and spacious. Nice outdoor space close enough to the river that you can hear the sounds. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back. Small thing- consider putting a kettle in every room with some instant coffee and tea. That way, we can enjoy the caffeine out in the garden in the morning :)
- Andrew (5/5): Passable - The sounds of the falls was nice. Nice big room. Outside was unkept and dirty. Decks were dirty and "garden" was overrun and wild. Owner was rude.
- Jose (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (1/5): Terrible stay - the worst of our entire month long trip exploring the area. - The bed was comfortable. The deck hearing the river was nice - cannot see it but can hear it. Liked having a deck. The host. We came to check in early (to just change our clothes to go for a bike ride) but he said he didn't speak English. When we came back to check in he spoke perfect English. The home looks like it is partly under construction - nothing seemed to be quite finished so it felt dirty. Upon check in we agreed to have breakfast there at 8:30am. When we got all ready to go in the morning there was nobody around so we left to go get coffee. When we got back at 8:20 he said he wouldn't give us breakfast because we had left. We said that we just went to get coffee and he was very rude and mean. Very disturbing! Definitely do not stay here!
- Gerrit (7/5): Slept excellent, disappointed about canceling breakfast and not offering a discount because of that. - Location next to the river and close to l’petit train du nord. The fact that at the last moment the host notified us that he would not provide breakfast anymore, and did not offer a refund for that part of the deal.
- Jason (10/5): Feels like home - Very nice location and Gilbert is very friendly and hospitable,
- Cody (7/5): Good -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Chantal (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (7/5): Good - Breakfast was excellent We were there twice on 2 separate days, 5 days apart. At the last stay , midweek, we had to pay $5 extra. I do not agree with that.
- Larry (9/5): Comfortable room in an artsy bed & breakfast inn, with beautiful gardens overlooking a rushing river - A bed & breakfast inn & art gallery on a river. Great place to kick off your cycling tour on the Petit Train du Nord. Host was very welcoming & kind despite the language barrier. Our room was super comfy, clean & with a balcony overlooking the river. We enjoyed the breakfast on the patio & the host's presentation of his art work (we asked). Only issue was payment--had to go get cash from an ATM b/c host does not accept credit or debit card payment, or web-based pay options other than Interac. It would be a lot easier if host took these forms of payment; he could pass on fees to customers.
- Martin (10/5): a great stay -
- Jacinthe (10/5): Charming, restful, nature-filled, quiet, delicious breakfasts ... heavenly spot in Mont Laurier! - Charming, restful, nature-filled, quiet, delicious breakfasts ... WONDERFUL!! --- We stayed for 2 nights at Gilbert's gîte -- what a heavenly spot in Mont Laurier!! We recommend without hesitation, and will be back next time for the town's annual summertime festival. Cozy room, comfortable bed & pillows, private outdoor terrace overlooking the fabulous natural gardens on the shores of the river (Note: the sound of the waterfall is constant, day & night, which we LOVED!). Gilbert is a soft-spoken, welcoming, respectful, well-travelled & interesting host -- he and his lovely daughter prepare wonderfully delicious breakfasts ... what a treat it was to stay with them! We highly recommend la Gîte au Pied du Courant! The photos don't do this place justice ... in other words, WAY better than depicted in the photos!
- Ivens (10/5): Exceptional - The decoration was amazing!
- Dennis (9/5): Lovely stay, outstanding grounds and delicious breakfast 😊 - Lovely, well maintained grounds. Nice location in a quaint town 😊 No ice available to guests
- Dave (9/5): Worth visiting. - Great location beside the river. Nice and peaceful stay with a great breakfast. We are English from Alberta and the host was great at trying to communicate in English, which we thought was very good. Much appreciated
- Josee (10/5): Exceptional - We adored the environment, beautifully decorated, very zen, quiet, I particularly enjoy calm environments.
Mr.Desjardins, our host and owner of the place was great to talk to. And he makes great breakfasts, the healthy type, which I very much appreciated.
We personally recommend it. Without a doubt we intend to return!
- Doug (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dennis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vallee (8/5): Very pleasant. Would stay there again. - Pretty garden, located by the river. Owner is an artist and traveller so interior of B&B has wonderful art and collectibles.
- Mary (5/5): Passable -
- Hans (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vafa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brown (8/5): Fine b&b. - Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared and delicious.
Location was convenient along with private.
Gilbert’s artwork which decorated every room is outstanding.
The company, fellow travellers, were great. Our bedroom balcony could have use a sweeping.
- Michel (8/5): Very good - Good breakfast. Room quiet and site wonderful.
- Marcela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luc (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eliza (9/5): Very comfortable place in a beautiful setting. - The location was easy to find and was walkable to some stores and restaurants, including a very good one recommended by the host. Breakfast was very good, on the covered deck in the garden. The house is beautiful and my room was very nice, with a desk and chair for reading. Was slightly disappointed to find that the river can't be seen or accessed from the house, and is VERY LOUD, because it's just downstream from the dam. But this did not really detract from my stay in this very comfortable and restful place.
