Guest Reviews
- Jaber (7/5): - The location was amazing, the room got cold which is always nice in the Mexican heat. You should make it more obvious which room you are purchasing, the rooms from the images look very different yet it's a luck of the draw kind of thing and we got the short end of the stick. With a small room, cramped bathroom, and a glass door that we can't even open cause it's public access so anyone can see us if we open the curtains.
- Zoe (8/5): Lovely stay, great location. - Very clean with a comfy bed and a large room. It lives up to the ‘minimalist’ name. Perfect location. Only slightly strange thing was the bathroom wasn’t in the room, you entered via the balcony. This didn’t bother us but some people might not be a fan of. Didn’t ever see a member of staff there for the 4 days we were there which felt a little strange, especially when we first arrived and had to complete the check in process online before we could even get into the property.
- Halah (4/5): Do not recommend unfortunately. Nice location, decor, and staff who worked during the day. But due to many issues I had, - Not having reception overnight was a serious problem Uncomfortable first few days, reaching customer service was unreliable and delayed replies.

- Roy (7/5): - It’s clean, the location is great, proper air conditioning as it gets quite hot in Oaxaca. The bed is nice. They have water dispenser for us to refill our water bottles and a working mini fridge so we can store water. The water shower pressure is horrible. Super weak and it takes forever (almost 3 minutes) to get the warmer water to work. Also on our last day, the shower almost didn’t have any water. It was quite frustrating.
- Nathalie (10/5): Heel goed! Communicatie was goed. Niets

- Nicole (9/5): A charming spot in the heart of Oaxaca. - Central location. Great walkability. Clean. Electronic locks were finicky and unpredictable.
Minimalist nature of the space was aesthetically pleasing but lacked in storage and hanging opportunities. More hooks in the bathroom or a taller hanging rack would have been appreciated.
- rajiv (9/5): Very well provided room with a lot of thoughtful supplies. Lots of natural light very clean -
- Johan (10/5): -
- Preety (10/5): - Room was spaious. The location was next to center, and lot of restaurants and cafes. The terrace is nice as well.
- Amanda (9/5): This property was in the center and close to everything. Beautiful and airy without too much of the bells and whistles. - Beautiful and spacious NA

- marta (9/5): Nice bed and easy walking to all - Super close to bus station and to town center.
Big bed. It’s a shared patio outside the room so it’s not private with the curtains open .
We only stayed one night night so didn’t experience any other travelers using the shared balcony .
- Ann (10/5): -
- Ruth (9/5): A lovely relaxing stay... I would definitely return to this hotel if I visit Oaxaca again. - I loved this place! The rooms were so well thought out... so many little amenities from the coffee and tea station, the toiletries were lovely, the bathrobe and hair dryer... so many gorgeous little details. Also I kept spotting hummingbirds on the terrace which was wonderful. Such a great location close to all amazing restaurants and cafes, and such a short walk to the lovely Jalatlaco which was my favourite. Also the cleaning staff were great although I didn't have too much contact with them, but they did a great job and were very friendly. Although there wasn't staff at the reception area, the ground staff left out free Mezcal for hotel guests and water & nuts, just another nice touch. The neighbourhood also felt super safe even though the road was a little noisy, but this really wouldn't stop me from staying here again. A great coffee shop just beside the hotel too. I miss it already!! The only thing to improve the place for me would be a pool, but obviously that's not possible! Another nice touch could be some slippers along with the bathrobe... as when I was going from the outdoor terrace to my room my feet were getting a little dirty.

- Monika (10/5): Perfect stay in Oaxaca! - Beautiful room with great amenities! Amazing location ,super safe and accessible to attractions, restaurants and attractions N/
- Susan (5/5): Mixed feelings - The location of the property was perfectly situated between two large squares. Also, there was a lovely coffee shop next-door. The housekeepers were wonderful. Although the owner said entry to the property at initial check-in was seamless. This was definitely not the case. In order to receive the code at check-in, you have to have access to Wi-Fi and Internet, which was not the case. Had it not been for other guests hearing us try to gain entry. We would still be on the street. Entry into the room itself was also difficult. If you do not put the code in correctly, an alarm sounds. For this reason alone, I am giving a low rating. In addition, the hot water for the shower was often times just a trickle or nonexistent. We had planned to stay for two weeks but cut our visit Short. The only other major drawback to the room itself, there is nowhere to put your clothes. There is a small rolling rack with the hangers attached but not a dresser.

Top Lage in Jalatlaco & sehr liebes Team!
- Johnson (10/5): We very much enjoyed our stay in Oaxaca. Casa Lumos was lovely, just as advertised. - Great property. Super location. Nice amenities. Would stay again. No complaints.
- Cindy (10/5): Great space.amaIng bed and pillows would definitely stay again amazing rooftop space - The staff was very attentive. Responded in a very timely fashion. Left an amazing note that was very personal. Location was amazing. Super clean and had everything I needed for my brief stay .
- Gustavo (10/5): -
- Antonina (10/5): Perfect - Comfort and design were excellent I couldn’t figure out how to enter into property on the first day as didn’t realise it’s all electronic. I feel that it should be said somewhere in big letters that there are no staff on site

- Neyda (10/5): - The property was near the Centro about 10=15 minute walk and near lots of eateries. The staff was great and our rooms where every roomy and clean. I would definitely stay here again.
- Shannon (8/5): - Beautiful room, very good location. Initially we had no hot water in the shower but was resolved the same day. It was a little difficult to find/use the main door lock, but once we understood how to “wake up” the touchpad, it worked just fine.
- Marimar (10/5): Lovely place to stay and visit OAXACA - Location, decoration, facility. Is more like an Airbnb than a hotel. So no options for breakfast (not a big deal as plenty of option near by). Key code a bit tricky to use the first time so for the late arrivals it could be improved as no staff on-site to help.
- Jose Francisco (1/5): Poor Stay Due to Maintenance Works, Service Disruptions, and Hidden Deposi - Unfortunately, my stay at this property was disappointing due to ongoing maintenance works that were not properly communicated before my arrival.
From the first day, the hotel informed me that there would be improvement works, which caused constant noise between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. This made it difficult to rest or work in the room.
Even worse, the water supply was cut off until around 4:00 p.m. due to these works, something unacceptable in a hotel. This meant I could not take a shower or use basic facilities during most of the day.
Additionally, there was an unexpected deposit/hold — either a $35 charge or a $250 security deposit — that was never clearly communicated before booking. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and feels misleading.
Although the hotel offered breakfast at another location as “courtesy,” this did not make up for the inconvenience and discomfort caused. These issues significantly affected my experience, and I would have appreciated knowing all of this in advance so I could make an informed choice.
- Keith (3/5): Not recommended… - Bed was comfortable Noisy. Wake up to jets leaving the airport over top the apartment, sleep with street noise. You know there is a problem when the host put earplugs on each side of the bed. Also we were in the top floor and it was hot during the day, warm at night, even with fans on and windows open. Toilet is in literally the shower!
- Esmeralda (6/5): CERCA DEL CENTRO - CAMA MUY COMODA, BAÑO Y HABITACIÓN LIPIOS LA HABITACIÓN ERA PEQUEÑA, MUY CALUROSA A PESAR DE USAR EL VENTILADOR, HABIA MUCHO RUIDO Y MOSCOS QUE ME DEJARON DORMIR POCO.
- Jim (9/5): -
- Rema (10/5): Exceptional -
- Renee (9/5): Great place and location bed were very comfortable. - We all appreciated the water available, and the onsite staff was very helpful and nice. There was an issue with gas smell on the balcony was very strong I got a headache.
- Holly (9/5): Superb -
- Aleix (9/5): Staff were really helpful, had a great stay - New stylish property with very comfortable beds
- Tola (2/5): Disorganised, not trustworthy and disrupted my trip. - The room was clean and tidy. I selected the location for a specific reason as it was walking distance to the centre. I had booked the room in enough time and I got a phone call (2 hours before check in) when I arrived at the airport to inform me they would like to cancel my room. It was presented as a free upgrade about 5-10 minutes from where I was initially staying. What wasnt clear was it was 5-10 minutes drive and also they were doing maintenance work on the room - (30 mins walk from the selected location). Note, it is not advised you walk at night alone in the city. I wasnt properly guided to the location and when I finally arrived, the room was barely ready as it was changed at such short notice. I also could not log until the wifi as it was so far out of the city, it was in the suburbs. I spoke to a local friend and they confirmed it was not right I would be sent there. Note I also received up to 7 messages asking me to check in and abruptly sharing the new location. Complete mess. I would not recommend this place especially as a solo traveller. Distressing to arrive somewhere and for your room to be changed at such short notice. Lastly, my room was near the entrance and when the electronic gate would open at night and early hours of the morning, it would be wake me up, and finally because the location was so far out, there was a live brand practising late at night and kept me up. A complete disaster!
- Douglas (9/5): Oaxaca - The location, staff, the communication w/ the Holt admin. The only issue was the construction taking place on the premises, however, they were very accommodating to us to make sure that our stay was all that it could have been.
I would definitely stay there again.
Douglas & Najiyyah See above
- Keisha (7/5): Mixed bag - The room was impeccably designed; and the HOLT team were very accommodating with our requests, even adding a second air conditioner to quell the sweltering heat. Because of the friendly hospitality I would stay at other Holt properties when traveling. The room, which was poorly situated off a sun-beaten patio. The radiant heat from the patio permeated the room day and night, making staying in the room unbearable, even with the fan and 2 A/Cs going. Unfortunately I don't think it can be helped. Also the pillows were outrageously firm like couch cushions.
- Sarah (4/5): The room was a greenhouse, so hot! - Clean, modern and nice toiletries The room was designed like a greenhouse; glass wall facing the sun all day meant the room was boiling even when the door was open at night. No aircon meant that it was unbearable at times. It was also on a busy road which you could hear loudly given that the door needed to be open and this also opened onto a communal terrace. The pillows were also very uncomfortable. Communication with the owners of the property was also disjointed from those on site which made it challenging when things were not as they should have been.
- Tea (7/5): Good - Big and clean room in the centre of Oaxaca No windows, to many registration just only to get into the apartment
- Christoph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (7/5): Good - The location is absolutely perfect, in the nicest streets of the historical center and very short walk from main square. The staff were very good and it was very clean, also big room. However please note there is no A/C! Very very hot in the rooms, maybe okay if you’re in the rooms with the sliding doors, but if you’re put in room 5 upstairs, there’s basically only a tiny window and it’s a sauna
- Andrew (10/5): Boss - Brilliant hotel, is brand new so facilities are in great condition. Location is also great in the nicest part of town and 10 mins walk from the ADO station. Only thing is a bit more storage space for clothes would’ve been good
- Rita (3/5): Miss leading pictures absolutely not worth it - Location The room as well the bed and the sheets , non existing staff and non existing communication
- DALILA (10/5): - The most comfortable, clean, chic place I've stayed in Oaxaca. Great service and location. Would recommend and will stay here again
- Alicja (9/5): Superb - Very spacious, modern, well equipped room. Includes a nespresso coffee machine and a pot. Shower is a bit weird, because it’s tiny and combined with a toilet, separated only by a curtain, at least in room no. 5. There is a lovely rooftop with a stunning view on Oaxaca.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb -
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, super clean and modern. Simpel but great, with online check-in.Can highly recommend
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Aditi (1/5): Bad -
- Catherine (9/5): Superb -
- George (9/5): Excellent location in Oaxaca City - - Excellent location; walking distance to the cathedral & many great restaurants & cafes
- Communication with HOLT hosts was good
- Interior design was lovely
- Great amenities provided e.g iron, shower gel etc
- Shower pressure & hot water very good - Room much smaller than expected based on photos. Wouldn’t really describe it as a “suite”
- Although quiet location, the walls weren’t very noise proof, so could hear other occupants coming and going
- Reasonably expensive
- Beat (9/5): Superb - Perfectly located and freshly renovated. We once needed support regarding the bathroom and it was provided through Whatsapp instantly. Our room was a bit small.
- Hany (10/5): One of the best hidden gems for a stay. Don’t miss on it - The room was very spacious, clean and modern. Looked like it was coming out of a magazine. The decor is pleasant and it’s very well equipped with everything The sink for the bathroom is not connected to the bathroom itself but that was no big deal for me as a solo traveler.
- Jwkm69 (5/5): Beautiful room that requires sacrificing privacy for natural light. - Good location, there are many wonderful cafes and restaurants in close walking distance. While it was very tastefully decorated I found the bed to be uncomfortable - the bedding was plush, however, it only had thick firm pillows which hurt my neck and isn't for everyone. However, that was minor in comparison.
My main concern was the room itself. I stayed in room 1 on the ground level. And while the pictures were accurate, it was very clean and minimalist, the way the room is configured was optically misleading. The only available daylight was from the sliding glass door onto an outdoor patio.
Unfortunately, the patio has shared public access through a common dining room and toilet adjacent to the room's glass door. So, if you wanted to enjoy natural light, you have to forgo any sense of privacy in the room. The owners should strongly consider installing sheer curtains so that occupants can enjoy daylight while protecting some level of privacy; or, perhaps consider closing off public access to the patio in order to preserve the privacy of occupants of room 1.
- Olga (10/5): Loved it - Super spacious, bright room, huge and comfortable bed. The host was very responsive. No plates or bowls available, no recycling bins.
- Levi (10/5): Great place one of the few quiet places in Oaxaca as most buildings can be really noisy! - Everything was great except the bed frame. The bed frame is unstable and moves away from the wall.
- Valentina (10/5): Perfect! - It was wonderful! The location was perfect, it's in the center but in a quiet street, so it's really easy to go exploring from here. The bedroom was comfortable and clean, and it had everything I needed for my stay. I highly recommend this place, especially if it's your first time visiting Oaxaca.
