Guest Reviews
- john (7/5): Enjoyable - Good location Nothing
- john (7/5): Comfortable - Good location Nothing
- Amy (7/5): - The owners were lovely, breakfast included was fantastic and the locations was perfect for us Tv requires upgrade
- Tina (9/5): Great - The host were lovely the home cooked breakfast were great . Host made most things like the sourdough and yoghurt all was delicious. Very spacious room and comfortable. Need your own car to get into Taupō to far to walk . Perfect stay for us The only suggestion I’d have is a small fridge in your room .
- Thamar (10/5): Outstanding B&B in glorious suburb of Taupo! - Ian and Mary are just lovely people. They are experienced hosts and know exactly how to look after their guests. We stayed in the biggest room (Shakespeare suite) which was superb and comfortable: very spacious with a big bed, nice bathroom and all the aminities you would need (like hair dryer, alot of towels in different sizes, tissues, shampoo, electric blanket, a fan, tea, etc. ) There's also alot of information about Taupo and the area. They give you recommendations that suit you.
The breakfast is in their own kitchen and the table is filled with a wide selection of yummie food. They prepare english hot breakfast if you wish so.
At first we experienced some noise in the evening from downstairs, but it is absolutely dead silent during the night which allowed us to sleep really well. Nothing really. Taupo has alot to offer and we felt sorry we had to move on... could have easily spent a week or so in that area.
- Philip (9/5): Quiet and very comfortable B&B close to Taupo. - Great location in a quiet neighbourhood just around the bay from Taupo. Hosts Mary and Ian were very friendly and happy to provide recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Breakfasts were very good and offered an opportunity to meet other visitors. N/A
- Carl (9/5): -
- Silke (9/5): Comfortable and tastefully furnished accommodation in good location. - We booked the suite. It is a large, bright and airy double aspect room with period fixtures and fittings, comfortable large sitting area, a large double bed, tea and coffee facilities in the room. There is a fridge for guest use just outside the room.
The bathroom is spacious with shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided.
Guests have the use of a very sweet garden, with plenty of outdoor furniture.
Breakfast is sufficient with a cooked option available and fresh fruit too.
The hosts are very welcoming, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The room has a well working, free standing electric fan, which was sufficient for our stay (day temperatures appr 25C, night appr 12C). For higher temperatures some guests may prefer an aircon unit.

- Sujay S. Sairam (8/5): Pleasant and comfortable homestay - This was a unique stay for us - perhaps something that's in line with a homestay. It felt like a family home with other guests in rooms just next door. The squeaking and thumping on the wooden flooring as one walked up and down the stairs felt like it was straight out of a Christmas story. The room had everything one needed to make it functional. There is parking on-site for exactly three cars. The hosts were really accommodative and helpful. It's a bit away from Taupo, but not too bad (20 mins) so do keep this in mind if that's the objective!
- Ernst Volker (9/5): -
- Helen (9/5): - Everything was very good . Thank you
Our hosts were exceptional and coincidentally had roots in our home town ! We struggled without air conditioning as our room was very sunny and it was very hot.
- Phaedra-Dawn (10/5): It was nice they were involved in the not just making the breakfast, but sticking around chatting - Ian and Mary are lovely people, and thank goodness I didn't have to drink instant coffee in the morning. Thank you Ian for your Coffee machine. Great stay and SO MUCH local knowledge between them both, you will not be at a lose end either. They know their town.
- Jane (10/5): Pleasant 2 Night Stay. - Mary and Ian were very friendly and helpful hosts.
A comfortable and relaxing stay in this attractive property. Nothing.
- Stephen (10/5): Elegant surroundings, sumptuous breakfast & welcoming hosts…..a ‘must stay’ again property! - Home away from home experience. The room was decorated beautifully with everything you would want, including home baked cookies. Mary & Ian are exceptional hosts & this is evident in how they welcome you into their home. The dining table is laden with a variety of food for a delicious & substantial breakfast to set you up for the day ahead.

- Norbert (10/5): Excellent B&B in beautiful location - Beautiful house with a wonderful garden. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean with a view to the garden. Mary and Ian are friendly hosts and provide you with good advice on activities, restaurants and shopping. The breakfast was good too!
The B&B is located about 5 km out of town, however it's an easy 7min. drive to town. A good restaurant in walking distance. Very quiet location. There's nothing we didn't lke and we can highly recommend this lovely B&B.
- Lord (10/5): - Great location away from the centre of town. 10 minute drive to town. Great breakfast. Prefer vegemite over the marmite. Very nice hosts in Mary and Ian. Great place to relax after going from hotel to hotel. 2 seater lounge and small coffee table instead of table and chairs in our guest room.
- Csaba (10/5): Charming, high end guest room with great breakfast. - The home is charming, sunny and cozy, very clean, stylish, romantic interior, high- end linen and tableware. The friendly host couple gave great recommendation for dinner. The communications from them were timely, they served a great breakfast. Would certainly return. Nothing.
- Susan (7/5): Very average, I expected better - Most amenities were available. Nice, thick, fluffy towels, heated mattress pad was great on a chilly night, lots of closet space (tho we didn’t need it). Heated towel bar in bathroom. I expected better based on reviews. Everything was very average, from the furnishings to the comfort of the bed and pillows to the breakfast (my scrambled eggs were overcooked tho the other guests’ were perfect). On arrival the owner was very rushed, not fully explaining the wifi (the network name was not mentioned and was not clear so it took three tries) and there was nothing about how to contact them with questions (which I had). Overpriced for what you get
- Mindy (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional, Thankyou Mary and Ian - Beautiful property in a beautiful location. Our hosts Mary and Ian were delightful. Very clean, super comfortable Nil
- Nolene (9/5): A lovely place to stay with welcoming hosts - A good sized room with all that we needed. Lovely breakfast and friendly hosts
- Iain (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb - There are three rooms, ours was very comfortable with a nice bed, television, en-suite bathroom and sitting area with a small table and two chairs. A small fridge and kettle with teas and coffee are available in a common hallway. Mary, our hostess, serves a very lovely breakfast that included eggs upon request as we liked them. Specialty coffees were also available. Although the location is not in town, it is an easy walk to a little market and wonderful restaurant where we ate dinner both nights we stayed at The Loft. Not a problem for us, but all of the rooms are upstairs which may be a challenge for some guests.
- Martin (9/5): Good accommodation well placed for exploring the taupo area. - Lovely and quiet in acacia bay but near enough to taupo and very near all the visitor attractions. Ian and Mary were great hosts and lovely breakfast cooked to order. Nothing
- Kevin (10/5): Comfortable & a friendly stay. Very enjoyable. - Room was well set out & comfortable. Mary & Ian were very friendly & professional. They provided an excellent continental & cooked breakfast including homemade bread & jams.
- Kathleen (10/5): Would love to return to stay - Everything was great!
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - The location was perfect and Mary and Ian were fantastic offering excellent tips for the local area. The breakfast was particularly good.
- Martin (8/5): Very enjoyable. -
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Stanley (10/5): Exceptional - Great hosts lovely breakfast enjoyed our stay if we come back to New Zealand we will definitely stay here again 😀 Not a thing
- Rhondda (10/5): Hosts Ian & Mary made us feel welcome. Nice continental & cooked breakfast. - Property had a good feel & was quite private. Next to park, planted with lots of trees. Heard the birds communicating early in the morning. Neighbourly restaurant & nursery. Barely a 10 min drive to Taupo central & an abundance to restaurants, cafes & shops. Everything good.
- Tina (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful house, very kind and helpful hosts, very good breakfast with great coffee. The room had a good size. We felt very welcome and enjoyed chatting with Mary and Ian over breakfast. Good place for trips in the region outside Taupo away from the busy lakefront, which is what we were looking for.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Great place to stay …
Great hosts …
And a great bar / restaurant just around the corner
🤗
- Harry (10/5): Exceptional - Fast Internet. Large room. Clean
- Lloyd (10/5): Perfect - The property was extremely clean and well appointed. The breakfast was lovely. MARY made homemade bread, yogurt and other accoutrements. She had hot breakfast on request if you would like. What we enjoyed most was Ian and MARY giving us excellent suggestions and sweet conversation in the morning of places to go and advice on how to dress up on the mountain which was good advice. overall, it was an excellent stay and we thank both Mary and Ian.
- David (9/5): The owners were very welcoming and the B&B was very comfortable - Ian and Mary made us feel very welcome and provided helpful tips on places to eat and visit. Not much
- Lekha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natascha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gavin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kamleshwar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Ian & Mary were lovely hosts, they were very helpful in booking a table for us at the local restaurant. Also for adv - It was a beautiful home with lots of room for us Nothing
- Nick (9/5): A really comfy place for couples to stay! - Mary and Ian are wonderful hosts. Loved our room and it was really inviting. Bed was a bit firmer than we're use to but still comfortable. Breakfast and coffee was yummy each morning! Everything was nice and clean and loved the homemade biscuits. Could maybe look at replacing the shower head to get more steady and powerful water pressure, but this is a very minor concern
- Kimandrobintravel (10/5): A Great Home Base - Mary and Ian were wonderful hosts- loved sharing stories during breakfast; our room was very clean; room was decorated with thought; shower space is adequate; good water pressure and easy to adjust hot or cold water; near room is a small fridge, teas, coffee and cookies; has one window with screen that is open; wonderful breakfast: yogurt, fresh fruit, muesli, eggs cooked to order, bacon, toast, homemade jam, juice, coffee, tea; breakfast served 7:30-10:00; very quiet neighborhood; near Lake Taupo; off street parking Right off of main road - our window faces a few trees between houses, not in countryside, but in a neighborhood
- Deborah (10/5): I would definetly would stay again and recommend it to others. Thanks Mary and Ian. - The hosts were so welcoming and lovel to chat with. The breakfast was very nice. Set me up for the day :)
It was a quiet spot and not too far from central Taupo.
The bed was very comfy. A spa would be nice :)
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Breackfast was great and locastiion n was also good
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb -
- Kristine (8/5): Enjoyable stay & good lication - Location Breakfast could have offered more fruit selection
- Susanne (10/5): Awesome B & B in Lake Taupo - Tastefully appointed B&B in lovely residential area overlooking Lake Taupo. Very close to town center with lots of restaurants and nice shops. Awesome hosts and delicious full English breakfast. Highly recommended Nothing to dislike
- Gabriella (9/5): Superb - We loved the place and enjoyed the cmnfort of the house and the garden. We spent two really warm days at The Loft and missed air conditioning. It would make the room even more comfortable.
- Raewyn (8/5): I would stay again and tell others about it. - The location is perfect close to town centre, a cafe/restaurant in walking distance and close to family. The breakfast is excellent, quality food, the sour dough bread delicious and sharing with other guests if you choose is a positive this is just a personal issue as i have a problem knee, an ottoman for putting my legs up would have been good, restful when relaxing
- Linda (10/5): Loved everything about this place! -
- Sharlene (10/5): Great hosts and well looked after - Great location and very clean and tidy.
- Veronique (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent welcome from Mary and Ian. Very good breakfast
The room was very spacious

- Ian (10/5): Highlky recommend The Loft - great host, wonderfull comfortable rooms, and Ian makes a fine coffee! - Welcoming environment with great hosts who took the time to find out a bit about our travel but were not intrusive about it. Not a issue for us - but stairway to rooms would be difficult for those with impaired movement, cant remember it this was mentioned (stair access to rooms) during booking.
- Sandra (10/5): I would definitely go back here to stay - There was tea and biscuits anytime if you wanted. A lovely sitting room. Great breakfast with homemade bread, yoghurt and jam.
