Guest Reviews
- Adam (10/5): Great stay, even better hosts thank you - Lovely pub, hosts were wonderful and the food was fantastic. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable. Nothing for the price I paid it was great value for money
- David (9/5): Overnight stay - Comfy bed, lovely shower. Friendly owner Breakfast not being included.
- Mario (9/5): - Lo staff molto accogliente e amichevole.
La colazione ottima. Stanza un po' datata e bagno piccolo
- Karl (8/5): - Super breakfast, one of the best we have ever had .lovely shower , host warm and friendly Room was very hot , however it was in an heatwave, fan was provided. my wife lost an earring in bedroom somewhere we looked everywhere it was special , unfortunately a lot of dust under bed / headboard
- Linzi (8/5): -
- Geoff Parrett (10/5): Great village pub - Quiet village pub, nice room with a lovely bathroom and use of a balcony garden overlooking the rear pub garden with table and chairs, menu was basic but very nice food and really good selection for breakfast which you select the night before. There was nothing we really didn't like with this accommodation.
- trevor (10/5): Great - The host that ran it was very friendly
- axel (9/5): Lovely stay! - We had a really lovely stay at The Crown Inn in West Down. Everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The room was lovely, the pub itself had a great atmosphere, and the food was really good as well. The location was perfect and in between all the villages and beaches.Overall, it was excellent value for money and we would definitely recommend staying here!
- Stephen (8/5): A recommended country pub and Inn - The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was well cooked, varied and enjoyable. The room and bed were very comfortable.
- Diane (8/5): Great local place to stay and very close to all the local attractions - Comfortable, local pub with friendly staff. In a quiet village Good breakfast cooked to order
There was live music on Sat evening between 8.30 and 11 pm not particularly to our taste but very popular with the locals. And it was a bank holiday Saturday!!
- Melanie (9/5): It was a short stay, visiting family in the area, so we did not spend much time in the room - The location, room and breakfast were great, we had one evening meal and it was delicious. We could park our car immediately in front of The Crown Inn which was very good. The bed was uncomfortable, the mattress too soft, the duvet and duvet cover quite hot.
- Kay (8/5): Lovely country pub! - Very comfortable, lovely pub food peaceful location
- Liz (7/5): - Good location, friendly people and good menu. It’s a place that is clearly loved by locals and keeping a village alive Sad that they whacked on £20 for my dog to stay. It was just added to my food bill. As a single person travelling with 1 dog I have to consider the price carefully when booking. It was sad to he financially penalised especially when the pub was full of dogs.
- David (10/5): Great quite stay and good parking - Great stay and good meals
- Heather (9/5): - Very welcoming host good food in the evening
- Richard (8/5): A very enjoyable stay - Dinner and breakfast were excellent The mattress was a bit soft
- Alexander (8/5): -
- Joseph (9/5): - Very cosy. Being a Monday the bar wasn't open :-)
- Loyd (9/5): Very nice - Had a lovely time the staff were very helpful and friendly. The poor owners had a terrible electrical problem Saturday night which ruined their whole restaurant side of the business on a busy Saturday😞😞 but were still happy to help us Nothing
- Lucy (9/5): Perfect for a mini break with family - Pretty, rural, quiet location. Lovely clean rooms with private bathroom. Nothing
- Emma (6/5): Sickeningly smelly!!!! - Nice bar area, nice food, rooms nice. Our bathroom had the most disgusting smell, so much so we had to use my mums bathroom just down the hall (luckily she was staying too). The smell obviously seeped into the bedroom area making it very unpleasant to be in, thankfully we were only there for one night! When the manager was informed, he was extremely none caring and none apologetic.
- June (10/5): Brilliant! - Sue was very welcoming, allowed us to check in a bit earlier too! Beautiful, clean and comfy room. Only sorry we didn’t get a chance to say goodbye and thank you when we left!
- Adrian (10/5): - Did not have breakfast. Location perfect for visiting family in the same village. It suited our needs perfectly
- Julie (10/5): - The friendly welcome Nothing
- David (8/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): -
- Paul (6/5): -
- Robin (10/5): We had a really enjoyable stay and the staff were all so friendly and helpful. - The breakfasts were delicious, with lots of choice on the menu.
The evening meals were fantastic as well and, once again, there was a lot of choice on the menu. There was nothing we didn't like!!!
- Barry (8/5): Privately run locals' pub with comfortable rooms and excellent food. - A characterful pub with comfortable, if not over large, bedrooms and a large garden. Room service is not provided, so you have to tidy your own bedroom and refresh supplies of milk, etc, from the hallway. The car park is small but there is a free car park 100 metres away.
The pub doesn't do evening meals on a Sunday so we had to drive to the next village. It's also closed Monday evening out of season. However the food, both dinners and breakfasts, was delicious. Lack of room service. Small car park.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Eva (10/5): - Friendly owners and staff ,good atmosphere .Spaciousnd cosy and clean room. Everything provided that was needed for our stay. Dinner was superb. Good location, within easy reach of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe beach. Quiet village.
An added bonus DOG FRIENDLY. nothing not to like
- Roger (10/5): -
- Rob and Jane (8/5): Nice - Comfortable bed, nice to have access to rooftop balcony. TV kept going off and tea, coffee wasn’t replenished daily when we first arrived extra tea & coffee bags were left out on the side in the hall but this also wasn’t topped up
- Worldhiker (8/5): Fine room with balcony above a pub in a remote village - The proprietor was very accommodating with my unavoidably early arrival. Dinner and drinks (though pricey) were fine, as was the breakfast. The room was large and clean and the mattress comfortable (reasonably firm). The residents' balcony area was delightful, though I wish it were non-smoking. The location required a taxi to get to as buses only infrequently run into West Down. Being a pub with a garden, there was some noise and light in my room until later in the evening, though not unexpected and nothing that earplugs and eye mask (open windows were necessary on a warm summer night) won't deal with.

- akhlil (8/5): -
- malcolm (9/5): Overall very pleased - Room was very clean, bed comfortable, bathroom good but we thought Room lighting could have been better. Breakfast was very good. Hosts were good and welcoming. Good value for money and would recommend. Room lighting

I would definitely recommend The Crown 👍🏼 It was very warm in the room, but the weather has been exceptionally hot
- Darren (9/5): Lovely stay and would definitely stay again - Great welcome , food and service Nothing really but was extremely warm in the bedroom but not much could be done
- Martin (8/5): Good, friendly pub in a quiet location. - Friendly staff. Clean, comfortable and quiet room with good facilities. Pub meal better than expected, and a good breakfast.
- David Moss (10/5): -
- Marilyn (10/5): - Lovely spacious room with a balcony and garden view. Good shower. Nice food both for breakfast and in the bar. Everything was great.
- neal (9/5): brilliant - didnt have breakfast, ate in the restaurant one evening was excellent Perfect for what I wanted
- Tracey (9/5): -
- Jennie (8/5): -
- Lymda (10/5): Had the best time - Property was well presented close to where we needed to be staff can’t do enough to help you nothing was too much trouble food was amazing Nothing
- Chris (8/5): Very pleasant - Nice little village which is surprisingly quiet given how close it is to honeypot locations. Hosts were very obliging in booking a late-notice table for eight. Great breakfast.
- Rich (9/5): Happily surprised what little Adam this place is. Ideally situated in the centre of North Devon. - Friendly Staff
Great food.
Good beer Nothing
- Michelle (8/5): A pleasant , enjoyable stay with friendly hosts. - Excellent shower in modern bathroom. Chilled bottled water provided was appreciated and fresh milk available in central fridge.
- Ruth (10/5): Lovely little find would come again - Although we were only here one night it was a very nice homely feel to it
- Paul (9/5): -
- Tristan (9/5): Top place, very comfy, great staff too. - Excellent property. Breakfasts was generous.
Great staff that went the extra mile to help.
Very comfy bed, spacious rooms.
Top staff esp Daisy the dog. Although competitive and cheaper than similar beach hotels, pride was slightly on the high side.
Netflix needed own login.
- Rob (10/5): It was clean friendly just wot we was looking for - Excellent 👌 Nothing The crown inn is good value for money
- Diane (8/5): Small country pub perfectly situated for exploring north Devon - Very comfortable room with a shower and a large shared terrace overlooking the garden .
Good breakfast freshly cooked with lovely local produce
Very welcoming hosts.
Great supply of cold bottled water which was most welcome in the very hot weather
Quiet location.
Pleasant garden No fruit available at breakfast
Room was not serviced during our four night stay but this was not a problem and when we needed fresh soap it was supplied.
- vanessa (10/5): Charme et délicatesse - Accueil et attention de l’hôte
Charme du lieu
Restauration sur place délicieuse
- James (10/5): -
- Roland (10/5): Alles bestens 👍 - Das frisch zubereitete Frühstück war sehr gut.
Das Abendessen war sehr lecker.
Toller Biergarten. Nichts
- Brad (10/5): -
- MICHAEL (10/5): An excellent nightstop, thank you! - In short, everything - from the moment we entered the village, the welcome, the rooms, the food, and the assistance we received. A great overnight stay! Nothing!
- Cindy (8/5): - Very pleasant stay. Very friendly hosts. Excellent breakfast. Quiet location. Very clean and comfortable.
- Neil (10/5): Character and comfort with friendly helpful owners and staff. - Great pub in the centre of West Down village. Has been modernised while keeping many of the original features. Character and comfort combined. Nothing
- Glenn (10/5): Superb stay in idilic village pub. - Great village pub. We have stayed here before and location is perfect for Woolacombe and Croyde beaches.
Comfortable en-suite bedroom with tea and coffee facilities and roof top patio overlooking garden. Lovely breakfast with good choices available. Evening dinner is available but may need to book on certain nights. Nothing to dislike
- Georgia (3/5): Probably would have been a more enjoyable stay if we had known about the live music - Great location near Croyde etc I think it should be made more obvious when live bands are playing, this went on until 11.10 which obviously made it impossible to sleep until after that time. Having to check the accommodation calendar is a bit of a nuisance for anyone, especially when booking on short notice. The room was very stuffy despite us having the window open all night.
- John (10/5): - A huge selection of food for breakfast
Small village location. Off the beaten track but beautiful scenery on the way
- French (10/5): Comfortable, welcome and very well looked after - Very clean, very comfortable bed, en-suite , all very nice. On site pub was very popular and busy over the BH holiday weekend but owners still made sure we were looked after and happy. Breakfast was to die for, all locally sourced and cooked to perfection. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. Highly recommended and excellent value for money,. Nothing at all - keep it as it is
- Lisa (8/5): -
- Sue (10/5): A great place to stay.. - This pub is in a quite rural village, just what we wanted.
parking right outside.
The room was spacious with comfortable beds.
The breakfast included a great choice, made a good start to the day
The owners are friendly and very helpful. Daisy the dog is very cute. Nothing. We were aware from their website that food was not available the nights we stayed so had made arrangements.
- Caroline (6/5): - Very nice room No food on Sunday evenings
- Martin (10/5): Village pub - Nice friendly village pub serving traditional meals, very nice breakfsst included. Parking right outside Nothing
- David (5/5): Generally disappointing and pleased to leave - Being allowed in to the property earlier than advertised The heating in our room not working and the time we were allowed to eat in the restaurant made little sense.
- Dean (10/5): Welcoming, tranquil and definitely a place to return to. - Welcoming, very comfortable, accommodating our dog with a smile, quality of the food (we had dinner and breakfast). Access to the private terrace. Very comfortable bed. Incredibly relaxing due to the welcome and attention from the owners.
- Samina (9/5): - Very nice, cosy environment
- Charles (8/5): brilliant local pub - staff were lovely all good
- ELAINE (10/5): Excellent stay - Comfortable clean room, spacious. Good facilities. Owners welcoming. Excellent food both breakfast and food served at inn. All good, nothing to dislike.
- Lee (9/5): Perfect - A lovely family run pub. Warm welcome, dog friendly, clean, cosy and just perfect after a long day.
Dinner and breakfast were spot on and catered well for dietary restrictions (gluten, onion, garlic) Nothing. It was all lovely
- Michele (10/5): A welcome break away from it all in a lovely quiet village with warm friendly staff and Daisy - Good food, warm friendly staff, lovely location

- Charlotte (10/5): Wonderful, we will come back! - Great breakfast & wonderful pub
- Charlotte (10/5): Great location, great owners and lovely property - Clean, friendly owners and comfortable Nothing
- Alison (7/5): - Breakfast was very good but if you didn’t want full English there wasn’t much choice. Bed was very comfortable with lovely cotton bed linen ( quilt was a bit small for the bed )
Shower excellent but tolietries not good .
- Richard (6/5): - Staff were all excellent. Quiet location. Just a bit tired and somewhat basic. Didn’t live up to the photo.
- Matthew (10/5): Wonderful - Amazing breakfast, wonderful hosts a pleasure to stay there. Nothing
- Sue (9/5): Very good, great value for money - Comfortable large room. Superb breakfast, we had dinner at the pub too which was also very good. TV was too small for room, but didn’t really bother us,

Nothing - it was all good.
- Nick (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- John (10/5): - Service was welcoming and warm from arrival to departure. Great location (you will need a car) to access the coastal areas. Super comfy bedroom, massive bed, great shower, complementary tea, coffee and snacks. Great food available in a locally atmospheric bar, live music drew a very friendly crowd of locals. We will definitely return.. Consideration towards:
A Coat hook on back of bedroom door.
More salad and fresh vegetable options on what was a great menu of food options.
Stronger black coffee at breakfast.
