Guest Reviews
- David (1/5): Bad - The Ivy Rooms no longer exist. I am very disappointed that Booking.com did not tell me about this in advance. Thank goodness the Lamplight came to my rescue. They were excellent and stopped our holiday being ruined. I arrived and had to make alternative arrangements with the Lamp light.
- Emma (1/5): Bad - Accommodation is closed some DO NOT 📕
- Nicholas (1/5): Ivy Rooms Clifden do not exist - Property did not exist. Nothing to like about property. Did not exist. Thankfully Booking.com have refunded my money ( within 10 to 12 days).
- Barbara (9/5): Superb -
- Mairead (5/5): Central location- old hotel . - Location- very central.
Hotel needs updating for the price charged, Asked for a twin and double room before check in as travelling with a friend. We got a double room. There is no lift in this hotel, quite old and musty smell. Needs updating. Excellent night porter . Reception staff were not dressed professionally.
- Tom (1/5): Bad - Roperty canceled the booking
- Stephen (1/5): Bad - There was nothing to like The fact it doesn't exist
- Con (1/5): Annoyed that no proactive warning of closed - Property was shut when we arrived. Had to make alternative arrangements at short notice. Very inconvenient
- Feighery (2/5): It was very disappointing. Owner sent e mail to payee saying money would be refunded. No refund to d - Did not hsve breakfast. No water on premises Very soiled carpet in room. Shower tray dirty. No t v service and no water in premises.
- Judith (1/5): Stressful - The property had shut down and we had it been notified We had to start looking for somewhere to stay . Not a lot of choice in remote village on west coast Ireland !
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Johnny (7/5): Good -
- Lèon (1/5): Bad - Nothing . It’s closed down and still took payment !
- Erin (1/5): Place is CLOSED - Just leaving this review in the hopes that someone else who has a booking sees it and doesn't turn up. The place is CLOSED. We turned up, just like many others we met outside, but the place is fully closed. No one was contacted to be advised it was closed and some have had their money taken already.
Luckily we found The Quay House which had availability and I honestly recommend it, fabulous place.
- Francis (10/5): Memorable stay in beautiful Clifden - Beautiful rooms in a great location. Staff were lovely and Friendly. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Freshly cooked but served buffet style so you could have what you want. Scones were best I’d ever had! Highly recommend. Nothing
- Patsy (9/5): Very good location and friendly staff - very friendly and helpful staff
- Zuzana (7/5): Good - Good location, very good breakfast (full Irish buffet, we could take as much as we liked, really REALLY good coffee), quick service the bathroom had mold in the shower and on the ceiling, please fix it before it gets much worse!
- O'donnell (7/5): Met expectations and had a comfortable stay - Friendly helpful staff. Room comfirta le
- Jh (9/5): Superb -
- Ahsan (1/5): Bad - The check in staff were friendly. Location was good. There was no water in the taps or the flush. I had to leave at 5am just to be able to brush my teeth! At dinner waited for service for 10mts. Then left. PATHETIC FACILITIES. I have been to 182 countries and never encountered any accommodation with no water in the taps... Not even in extremely poor African countries.
- Tara (8/5): Comfortable stay in a convenient location - Staff were really accomadating to my requests as had an early morning zoom meeting. A few minor repairs
- Judy (8/5): Welcoming staff, comfortable room excellent restaurant. - It was convenient with good parking in a lovely town. Restaurant was excellent for dinner. Good choice for breakfast. Very helpful staff who helped with baggage as stairs were difficult for oldies. Difficult entrance and staircase - very dark
- Fi (1/5): Bad - We didn't even stay the night. Recooked another hotel to sleep in. So disappointed. Sheets not fresh. The young man who met us to book us in was exceptional though, so friendly and nice. Such a pity 😕
- Julia (3/5): Clifden itself is a good place to visit but wouldn’t stay at The Ivy again. - Good location. Central and handy for cafes, pubs and restaurants. The Connemara horse fair was on which was enjoyable. I liked the hotel decor internally but outside was looking a bit shabby. The staff we did see were all friendly. The shower was small, would not suit a larger person. Bed side light not working. Couldn’t get breakfast until 9am . Breakfast itself was a complete fiasco. Only the chef on duty. No drinks or milk provided with our breakfast. Had to go to cafe opposite to get a coffee instead. The cafe attached to the hotel which supposedly opened at 9 was closed and didn’t open until 10.
- Nuala (1/5): Never stay there again - The ivy room was dreadful Room was not clean no staff to help with breakfast
People had to try and sort out food themselves
- Mary (8/5): Overall pleasant experience - Location. Staff
- Peter (1/5): A Mistake - Nothing We booked in and left straight away after seen room...the entrance and the stairs were dirty..not well kept..its a first for us to do this..booked into Hotel which was lovely
- Kate (10/5): Excellent Stay at Ivy Rooms - The staff were exceptional, friendly, & very accommodating. Couldn't more helpful. Stairs, but unfortunately, everywhere has stairs, so I just have to deal with it. Other than that, nothing.
- Ross (6/5): Rooms need attention. Great staff and location. - very friendly and helpful staff and a fantastic location The quality of the bedding was very poor. small bed. pillows completely flat. poor quality duvet and mattress. Nespresso machine in room but no pods. TV did not work.
- Finola (8/5): Very good -
- Marc (9/5): Superb - Very good food, friendly staff
- Jeremy (6/5): Avoid room no.9 - Friendly staff, clean and comfy room, good location, good breakfast I stayed in room no. 9, unfortunately there is a very noisy water tank in the attic above it which is constantly filling ALL NIGHT.... insulating the tank and building a soundboard enclosure around it wouldn't be too expensive to fix this issue..
- Marc (6/5): mixed feelings - Very good food
Nice and friendly staff, especially the waitress at breakfast seemed to do most of the work Nice coffee machine in the room, but no coffee available
The whole night a fan outside started every ten minutes and woke us up. We were exhausted in the morning!!
- Jo (9/5): Superb -
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Séverine (10/5): Good place to stay - Nice and quiet room located in the center of the town. Good breakfast with fresh home made product . Nice decoration of the room Breakfast could start a little bit earlier even if it is better to have good homemade items at 9.00 than industrial breakfast at 8.30 :)
- Gladsono (9/5): Superb - Good breakfast and great location
- Kenneth (10/5): Excellent location.. faultless - Excellent breakfast.. good selection Everything thd food and staff were brilliant
- Helen (8/5): Very good - Lovely B and B in the centre of Clifden, well worth a visit
- Denise (10/5): Will definitely return - Very central, clean and comfortable, great helpful staff
- Rachel (1/5): No Running Water - - Location is good, centre of Clifden town. - We had no running water from check-in (3:00pm) until 6:30pm and no communication from staff until we asked. We were unable to shower, use the bathroom etc. We decided to check-out and leave.
- Derek (5/5): Passable - Location Smell of vomit in thr premises
- Maeve (7/5): A friendly welcome in the middle of lovely Clifden - The location and the friendly staff My TV didn’t work and the breakfast, while tasty, was a bit chaotic in the way it was laid out!
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Siofra (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (5/5): Passable -
- Margaret (9/5): Superb - It is situated in the middle of the town. Lots of shops restaurants and parking. That I couldn't see the sea and coastline.
- Tina (3/5): Sorry but I would not recommend. - Friendly on arrival
The room was comfy and fairly clean. Not the best stay unfortunately.
Through the booking process I had great difficulty in contacting the property - email, text and phone calls. I had been contacted to ask if i would like to make my booking direct with the property, for a 10% discount, but this was impossible as i couldnt speak with anyone from the property. After eventually getting through I was told an email would be sent that day....this never arrived.
There were a few issues (shower leaked through to carpet in bedroom, no toilet roll and very flat pillows) but mainly the service at breakfast was the biggest problem.
Preparation for breakfast was non existent, it was worse the second day of our stay when the staff arrived after we did and just stood there when clearly nothing was set for breakfast!
No greeting as we arrived downstairs - had to ask where we were supposed to sit. No spoons, no juice, not enough bread put out, no sauces - had to ask for all of these. (Sauce bottle was filthy when it did arrive). The plates were left laid out on table overnight in a freezing cold room, as soon as the food was put on the plate it went cold too. Asked if we would like tea or coffee - waited 30 minutes before having to ask for our coffees, they arrived 10 minutes after this.
This place has the potential to be a lovely little guest house but really needs to improve organisation and service standards.
- Michael (4/5): Disappointing - When you only experience friendly staff for 4 minutes until you paid in full at check in and are left on your own for the rest of your stay then it feels like you're ripped off. Grab the money and run, was almost exactly what I experienced. I don't mind a bit of querkyness but this is ridiculous. Paying 102 euro for a room where the bed board is broken, the television does not show any channels and out your window lays building materials and a garbage bag. Staff can only be contacted by telephone, which is a pretty expensive option for a foreign guest, especially since no support is offered the first time and the second time results in voice mail. This is no way to treat your guests.
- Donal (8/5): Very good -
- Roslyn (10/5): Highly eecomnend if you are looking for a quiet relaxed experience - Beautiful room with a hip decor. Staff was very welcoming Delicious breakfast!
- Colin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Cathy (9/5): Superb -
- Ciara (1/5): Room already occupied by other guests. - Self check in after a certain time. The host sent a text message with all details including room number. On arrival, the front door was locked. The night porter was hesitant about letting us in even though I had shown him the text with the details and room number. He proceed to allow us entry. We walked the stairs to our room, opened the door and it was already occupied by another couple. Highly embarrassing. I could mot get the host on the phone, going straight to VM. The night porter also could not get through. I requested to cancel. Eventually some hours later the host finally text back to apologise and subsequently blamed the other couple for the error. Not a good experience for us.
We cannot rate the Ivy Rooms as we didn't stay.
- Adrian (5/5): Passable -
- Ruairi (5/5): Could do a lot better. - Great location in centre of Clifden. Nice decor. Lacking attention to detail in many areas. TV broken. Lack of heating. Shower not draining. Steep stairs. Breakfast unevenly cooked. Strong chemical smell in room.
- O' (5/5): Passable -
- Vickii (3/5): Poor - Not alot
- Marie (5/5): Good location, good price - Location Small, dark, smell of paint/oil.
- Louisa (10/5): Fresh clean stylish central and the best breakfast we had - Brilliant bnb, lovely staff very helpful. Room had just been decorated. Carpets could tell were brand new. Clean and fresh bedding. Walked to the local pub for irish music. We loved our stay

- Hazel (7/5): Good - Cosy room comfortable bed Kitchen was closed for dinner and breakfast was in the hotel opposite, would have been nice to be informed in advance
- Inge (8/5): Very good - All good. Shower was wonderful. Middle of the town with good restaurants around Had to make tea in a coffee machine, it gave the tea a slight coffee taste
- Martin (4/5): Room was very basic, needs decorating and the breakfast was very poor - The location The staff were poor and the breakfast each morning was served cold, the owners/management weren’t even there at checkout and did not speak with us after we had paid on arrival
- Feerick (7/5): Good - Every cute

Stale dank smell everywhere.
No customer service.
To top it all ..no breakfast.

- Lara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Niamh (8/5): Very good - Decor and Tapas was really good. Maybe a little more choice on breakfast menu but staff were very flexible.
- Kelsey (3/5): Would not recommend - The room was freezing cold and we had no towels for a shower. It took 20 minutes to even get served at breakfast … then another half hour for tea/coffee. Took a total of an hour to get breakfast, and it had gone off sausages.

- Alan (9/5): Warm welcoming staff and a great location for a short stay - Really friendly and welcoming staff. Located right in the heart of clifden. The room had a big TV which was nice for a rainy evening in. And the breakfast at The Ivy was amazing.
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Mc (7/5): would stay here again - a hot breakfast was included and tasty and plentiful beds were quite soft and rolled to the middle
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Enoj (8/5): Nice stay with an amazing breakfast - Very clean and decent rooms. Amazing breakfast… There was no wifi ssid as noted in the information
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -

- Talia (10/5): Simoly Perfect - Location was great and the room was neat. Bedding was soft and breakfast was excellent!
- Mr (4/5): Staff were friendly and courteous but not a great stay. - Location. No heating in our room until the last. morning. . Breakfast was included in our price but only three options 1. A friend Breakfast 2.Porridge oats. 3 Fried eggs . Teas or coffee . Anything else was extra. Breakfast extras charged for an extra coffee after waiting twenty minutes for our breakfast. Should have asked us if we would like our coffee with the breakfast or before it. Pancakes were an additional €4 euro to have as a breakfast. Now the staff pointed this out as we sat down asking for a room number.
- Marcella (8/5): Great place - Lovely modern place to stay. A very nice full Irish breakfast but not much included in B&B on the menu, unless you pay a supplement. Very friendly staff and excellent central location. Excellent value. I would stay here again. There was a consistent noise throughout the night, which sounded like a tumble dryer but not sure what it was.
- Martin (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay - Everything really enjoyed my stay A bit surprised that we had to pay €4.50 more for large breakfast
- Louisa (10/5): Brilliant stop over in clifden. Staff are great - Got a great deal on a room, lovely rooms great restaurant, staff were friendly and best part is location right in the town. Local irish music was just down road at lowrys pub. Enjoyed our stop over. All was great
