Guest Reviews
- Ian (8/5): -
- Neil (8/5): Good value Country Inn - A bit out of the way. Apart from the remote location, a really nice country inn with good beer and food. My room was lovely and the bathroom one of the biggest I have used in all my 40+ years of travelling.
The evening menu was how I like it, not too many choices. I believe this makes for a better quality meal. My Beef Jalfrezi was as good as any Indian restaurant. Breakfast was a bit disappointing.
- Christopher (9/5): Great value for money - Cosy pub in nice village
Excellent dinner
Friendly staff
- Joanna (8/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): Gorgeous hidden gem x beautiful suite x - Beautiful room xx
- Keith (6/5): -
- Dawn (7/5): - Quiet peaceful location.
Deluxe suite had freestanding bath for a good soak
Food top quality Nowhere to put clothes in room...needs chest of drawers or wardrobe
Needs toilet brush in bathroom
No instructions in breakfast room for coffee maker or egg boiler
Addition of service charge for meals
- Shauna (9/5): - Spotlessly clean and spacious. Beautiful decor. Friendly hosts. Beautiful inn. Would have preferred a full English breakfast but the Continental breakfast products were good.

- Susan (9/5): A relaxing and very peaceful stay in an interesting historic inn - A quiet, spacious room and bathroom, nicely decorated, in a very interesting historic inn. A peaceful location convenient for visiting Canons Ashby and Sulgrave Manor historic houses. We had an excellent dinner there in the evening (booking advisable). Breakfast is fix-your-own continental, including chilled items from a small refrigerator, cereals, nice bread and a very good selection of preserves. Cafetieres are provided to make coffee. Two rooms are up a steep little second flight of stairs. Bear this in mind if you have mobility issues and ask for one of the lower rooms. Some shelving/hangers for clothes would have been useful but we managed out of our suitcases for the one night we were there.

- Alex (10/5): - Attentive and friendly hosts. Beautiful period property.
- Kennedy (3/5): Great location just a shame the room didn’t feel clean - Quiet village
Close to Silverstone Race Circuit Unfortunately, the room didn’t feel clean during my stay. The bedding had noticeable stains, which made it uncomfortable to sleep in. The bathroom also had several cobwebs that looked like they’d been there for quite some time, suggesting it hadn’t been properly cleaned. Additionally, the toilet seat was worn and could really do with being replaced.
- Carl (1/5): Awful - told we had no room and didn’t get to stay! - Staff seemed nice and pleasant When we arrived we got told booking.com made a mistake and our room was double booked. We booked over 2 months before our stay and had spoken to venue via message. They knew we were coming and when we would arrive. They offered us to stay across the road in a ladies home - rejected. Then offered a little room above a house - rejected. We paid for a queen deluxe room and were not willing to be palmed off on the neighbours. Had to drive 4 hours to get back home. Total inconvenience and don’t believe it was booking.com fault.
- John (5/5): Nice accommodation but service was below par. - The location was quiet When we arrived, we were told Booking.com had made an error and we were not booked in. This led to me ringing local places that I knew trying to find alternative accommodation. Then a member of staff said they did have a booking and a room available!
The hotel information folder said breakfast (cooked or continental) was available from 8.00 to 9.30. We waited from 8.00 am until 9.00 and as nobody arrived, we helped ourselves to some continental. My son was very disappointed not to have a cooked breakfast
- Desiree (9/5): A welcoming, relaxing , clean homely stay with excellent food and drink . - First impressions are important this Inn is inviting , inclusive both felt from the owners of the property staff and visitors, great atmosphere. All positive.
- Moira (10/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): - The place was very nice but a little isolated food was fantastic even catered for gluten free A bit isolated
- Mick (10/5): - Excellent food. Spacious rooms. A very friendly place to stay.
- vanessa (10/5): Relaxing chilled out. Will stay here again. Owners and staff very friendly and welcoming - Homely feel, tastefully decorated
- Steven (10/5): Everything was great thank you -
- Mike (8/5): Cozy and welcoming - An area of natural beauty and tranquility, in beautiful countryside. The bed was lovely and soft. Food was very tasty too. 2 Guest beers on tap! Wine prices was excessive.
- Jane (9/5): -
- Bryan (10/5): Bry's review of the Crown - The location is lovely, such a lovely old Pub, tastefully modinised and such a great find and perfect for us travelling from the south coast to Nottingham to see family as a half way stop over. The staff were so accommodating and especially Susie she was just wonderful, friendly and made us feel so welcome! The food was beyond amazing as well! We'll definitely be returning!
- Antony (9/5): -
- Tina (10/5): - Such a warm friendly welcome from Hannah and her family. Even the locals made us feel welcome in their local.
Definitely made to feel at home. Lovely food, really good value for money. Drinks are reasonably priced as well.
Breakfast is self-service with a selection of ceral, fruit, bread etc, beans and eggs for you to cook yourself in the microwave/egg boiler. Everything was well thought through.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional stay. - All of the staff were really friendly and welcoming, as were the locals too. We got to know the entire staff over the weekend, as well as most of the people in the bar.
The Crown is run by a lovely family and nothing was too much trouble. We chose there due to it being local to the Silverstone Grand Prix, and the landlord even helped sort transport to and from the event for the entire weekend!
Excellent food being cooked up, and a great range of drinks available, followed by a nice, large and comfy room was exactly what we needed after long days at the race track.
10/10 stay for sure.
- Jon (8/5): A very pleasant stay in a friendly, traditional inn - though more restaurant than pub - The menu was a bit limited, probably because it was Monday night and not many diners - but the quality of the meal was good.
Breakfast was 100% self service, and continental (no full english!). But a good selection to choose from - and as much as you wanted. No dislikes
- Thea (8/5): Super adres met vriendelijke mensen en heel veel karakter - Personeel gastvrij en super vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Met open armen ontvangen. Gezellige oer engelse pub uit 1700 met veel karakter. Fantastisch qua sfeer. Was prima. Heeft zijn charme zo'n oud pand. Maar dus ook zijn beperkingen. Denk aan hoogte.
- Michael (8/5): Enjoyable stay - 1. Friendliness of owners and bar staff
2. Large bedroom, clean and comfortable
3. Olde worlde charm of pub
4. Good quality evening meal but not an extensive menu 1. Breakfast was a help yourself with no staff present, not a great choice of food. Boil your own egg, open a tin of beans and put in microwave. Other choices a good selection of cereals and fresh fruit.
2. Paperless pub so you don’t see the bill until it has been e mailed.
- Christine (8/5): The landlord and landlady were very welcoming .. highly recommend we would definitely stay there again - Lovelyvillage pub the heart of the village Nothing negative to say about our stay
- Emma (8/5): -
- Etiennne (9/5): - A little hidden Gem in a very quaint village. The hospitality and food was outstanding and the atmosphere very relaxing. It would be great to be able to open the bathroom window as it was pretty hot inside
- Julie (10/5): Lovely stay with fabulous room and very friendly and attentive host! - Gorgeous pub with a fabulous room - bed was so comfy and huge!! Nothing
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Amelia (8/5): -
- stephen (9/5): -
- Margaretanne (3/5): Would not recommend it . - The hotel looked beautiful in a lovely village. The door had a hole at the bottom. The sink in the bathroom was so small. The room was dusty. Breakfast was very very poor. We had to make it ourself. Nothing about a self service breakfast in the booking. No one there just a number to call. Packs of Tesco meat. Tins of beans. It was very poor. Also they had a street party that went on till after 01.00.
- Rita (8/5): -
- SCOTT (9/5): Little hidden Gem in the English countryside - A help yourself continental style breakfast was available. The room was very spacious and tidy. A wonderful little pub in a tiny English village. The host was very charming on arrival Nothing I disliked
- Richard (8/5): If there had been air conditioning or at least a fanwe would mark10/10 all round . Disappointed - Excellent food. Well looked after Room was far too hot we couldn’t sleep. No fan provided.
- Jenny (9/5): Perfect, would stay here again - Very accommodating, very nice and pleasant owners. Beautiful stay
- Adey (8/5): Would give 10/10 but - Fabulous place to stay

- Stephen (10/5): A fantastic experience in every regard and would not hesitate to return!! - The Crown was a real surprise in every respect and I would not hesitate to recommend it! My expectations were exceeded in terms of hospitality, food quality, range of menu, decor, room and I could go on.. There was nothing not to like..
- Cliff (9/5): Lovely stay - Lovely place. We had room 2 which was very large. The food was nice but a bit pricey.
Staff were brilliant. Nothing really. The property is very old and had twists and turns going up the stairs which could be a problem for people with mobility issues. Breakfast is continental, which fine for us but if that was in the description, I missed it .
- Diane (5/5): - Location and food Bedroom had no hanging space or hangers
WHB far too small and water didn’t drain away
Tv in complete wrong position to bed
You could hear any movement from other rooms
Bathroom decor and appliances very tired
Taking scaffolding down early on a Sunday morning not ideal
- Alex (9/5): Excellent value for money would definitely return - Excellent value for money, lovely big bathroom. Exceptional cleanliness and the food was brilliant Nothing
- James (9/5): Will stay again - great room excellent breakfast lovely building full of charecter All good, nothing to fault
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Friendly welcome with Bar drink being taken up to our room for us. Nice comfortable room and modern bathroom - nice shower and good decor. Should have been made clear that there is no cooked breakfast.
- Neil (8/5): Friendly staff very good food and good atmosphere - Very friendly Nothing
- Sue (8/5): I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again if I was in this beautiful area. - Very friendly front of house guy, location and comfortable bed. Couldn’t get the Wi-Fi, but I was in the top room
No soap at the bathroom sink
- Nicholas (10/5): -
- Jackie (10/5): Best food ever. - The pub was lovely as was the room and made to feel very welcome by all the staff. They couldn’t do enough for us. The food was absolutely amazing, we ate both nights and I have to say I almost never finish my meals but the chicken supreme was the best thing I’ve eaten all year and polished it all up, much to my husband’s annoyance 😁. Will definitely stay again. Thank you Nothing
- Kate (8/5): A 20 minute drive from Silverstone race circuit - Great customer service. Claudio was really lovely. Comfy beds and free parking. Food was nice in the restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was ok but only continental not cooked.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The food was outstanding, the people were fantastic, the room was lovely, the pub was in a lovely little village, and we were made to feel welcome from start to finish. It was difficult to find anything we didn't like
- Linda (8/5): Great 3 night stay - Lovely pub & really friendly owner & manager. Great location
- Anne (9/5): -
- Davis (10/5): Amazing staff - The bad was really big and comfortable quiet location in the countryside
- Frank (9/5): Just right. - Quiet location. Old and quirky. No hooks in the bathroom to hang bath bag and cloths on.
- Lynda (10/5): -
- Adrian (8/5): Claudio made us feel very welcome. Pizza night on thursdays are not to be missed! - Rustic pub with rooms in a lovely location Nothing
- Steve (9/5): Beautiful quaint pub and rooms. Extra friendly and accommodating staff. - Room was clean. Very quaint. Room a Little small
- Stuart (10/5): Excellent experience overall a little gem - An excellent little Gem
- Craig (10/5): -
- Ben (10/5): -
- Mo (9/5): Nice accommodation - Friendly atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough for you and rhe evening meals were amazing. When we booked it said breakfast was included which was great, what it didn't state was that you had to boil your own egg or open a tin of beans to heat, not that that's an issue to do but maybe should be stipulated when booking. Maybe add a hand rail on the stairs for anyone elderly staying and some sort of rail in bedroom for clothes.
- Julie (6/5): - The pub is very quaint and old. Not much room for parking, Host not available for breakfast or checkout, do it yourself simple breakfast.
We had a meal in the evening and were charged £25 service charge. Prices already quite high for the menu.
- Eva (9/5): -
- Malcolm (10/5): Great place and lovely food - Great menu and food. Lovely breakfast with DIY fresh filter coffee and lovely spread of healthy options Service charge added to food bill. I know this is common place now but I don’t like it
- Herron (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Fantastic day friendly atmosphere good food 10 out of 10 - Fantastic breakfast, buffet style cereals, fresh bread, croissants, orange juice, fresh coffee, fresh fruit, yoghurt eggs just fantastic Nothing couldn’t fault it
- steven (9/5): Lovely country pub with gorgeous food - Amazing host and staff
Food was great Nothing
- Peter (10/5): One word sums it up FANTASTIC . - We arrived early but after contacting the manager we were let in and received a fantastic greeting .
- Elliott (10/5): - Fabulous landlord
- NICOLA (6/5): Not a bad stay, improvements can be made to venue - food was lovely evening meal was lovely, adding on gratuities not acceptable in the uk especially without being told beforehand, over £30 was added, Bill just over £300 as some friends met us for drinks, 4 people had food, it was quite expensive to eat there but no where else to go in the near area. Room was ok not as nice pictures lead you to belive. flooring in bathroom was coming up. There was alot of residue and dust in the bath so i had to clean before i could use. Grout in shower had gone black. Fair bit of dust especially on top of head board. Only had half a toilet roll so ran out in middle of night. Needs a little TLC to be honest
- Eric (10/5): - Excellent service by the manager and staff.
Food was exceptional with a chef cooking fresh food.
Room was perfect with no issues or concerns
- James (9/5): A quaint and quiet old pub with sympathetically modernised bedrooms. - Well presented and equipped bedroom with comfortable bed. I'd asked for a non-slip shower mat on our first night, which was provided for our second night. The continental breakfast was probably one of the best we'd ever experienced with a huge selection. We didn't have dinner, so cannot comment that. Cannot think of anything.
- Jo (4/5): Disappointing - Very disappointed with the blow up bed that was provided for our child, before we put her to bed it had deflated, was told by the lady that it just needed plugging in to inflate it. We did this but for it to deflate again and my child ended up sleeping on the floor on cushions and pillows in the middle of the night. In the morning We then discovered the sheet that was used to cover the blow up bed, it looked like it had been used as cover up for when painting! Nobody was around for us to tell them about this before we left! The continental breakfast was ok, passable even but to actually have to do it all yourself when staying in someone’s accomadatiin, unacceptable!
- Kim (7/5): Had a nice stay apart from the negatives. - Quaint pub , evening meal was very good they catered for my husband who is coeliac he had the pork belly. I had the fish and chips was lovely. Bed was comfy.
Staff very friendly xx No waldrobe in the Queen deluxe room for hanging clothes.. we had to use our suitcase. Bathroom very small especially the basin & it didn't drain well
Didn't have a mini fridge would have been nice & a decent chair to sit on as there was plenty of room.
We didn't use the kettle as it needed a clean and it had
exposed cable. We couldn't have had the breakfast as you help yourself & contaminated was to high for my husband. Other customers were eating it smelt lovely x
- Issy Richards (9/5): A wonderful experience! - A wonderful experience beginning with the warm welcome from Claudio! A pretty quiet village and a very special characterful inn. Comfort and relaxation all the way. Good food and wine.
- Sue22f (8/5): Excellent value for money stay. - Excellent value for money overnight stay. Warm welcome from landlord Claudio who was very attentive.
Spacious room, huge comfortable bed, large bathroom with roll top bath & walk in shower.
Very good self service continental breakfast.
Excellent evening dining, can recommend foccacia bread & olives, the chicken supreme & king prawn spaghetti were both absolutely delicious. May seem a little expensive but actually you do get what you pay for as portions were plentiful and the quality was excellent. It didn't spoil it for us but if you have any mobility problems, be aware that this is a very old building with some uneven steps & a difficult staircase.
Some privacy film on the bathroom window would be nice as you need to have the blind down all the time. (Room 2).
- Jen (10/5): -
- Rhiannon (7/5): Always a pleasure - Nice location, nice friendly manager/landlord, very spacious King room. I loved the bath. And even a lovely continental breakfast with freshly made granary bread.
- Izzet (9/5): -
- Eric (10/5): - I stayed for four nights .
The staff are very helpful and on hand if I need anything .
The room was exceptional .
Bright clean and spacious.
The room was cleaned every day
The pub and restaurant was top class crisp and clean with a homely feel throughout, which is perfect .
Fires at both ends of the property, keeping the area nice and warm.
The food is top class and could find no fault with anything I ate plus they do a decent pint of guinness I have no complaints
- Duncan (9/5): -
- Moore (9/5): - Excellent value for money We would have liked a cooked breakfast
- Helen (9/5): Lovely, quiet , characterful accommodation. - A very welcoming place . A good place to stay over to break up a long journey. Very comfortable room with an excellent self serve breakfast . Nothing
- Gary (8/5): - Beautiful spacious room, very comfortable bed.
Nice welcome from the host, and nice pub atmosphere, and food in the evening. In the middle of nowhere, which was OK, except according to booking.com, it was in Towcester, but in fact, it is in a village called Weston about 6 miles from Towcester.
No cooked breakfast, but continental breakfast was fine.
- Bailey (9/5): - Very comfy beds, sweet old building with modern room facilities. Self serve continental breakfast in the morning was a bonus.
- Malcolm (8/5): A quaint country Inn in a village near Towcester, but with drawbacks. - The resident manager and member of staff were very friendly and helpful, although service could be leisurely. A quaint inn in a very old building, but not especially practical, if you are an older guest. I was in room 2, which was a spacious room with a large en-suite bathroom up a very uneven short stairway, and I was offered assistance with my suitcase. The bathroom had both a walk in shower and a slipper bath. The bedroom and bathroom were both very clean. The food offered on the evening menu was of good quality, but on the expensive side, and drinks were very expensive for the quality served, especially the wines. The accommodation was reasonably priced. As mentioned, the building was very old, and I found it difficult to negotiate safely. There were no hand rails on the very irregular stairway, probably due to being rather narrow. The light at the bottom of the stairway was not working, which was a safety hazard. There was no non-slip bathmat for the slipper bath, which was also a safety hazard. The very large bedroom had no comfortable chairs, despite having plenty of space for them. Breakfast was a faff, unless you have plenty of time and patience. It is a do-it-yourself affair. There is plenty of good quality food, and the bread was of a good quality. You had to cook your own boiled egg(s), and in the fridge there was some cooked meats, and a selection of cheeses, as well as juices, milk etc. There were cafetieres for coffee etc. It was all very 'nice', but simply impractical, if you haven't got all the time in the world! I personally would have preferred a simple good quality cooked breakfast prepared for me!
- Olivia Jenkins (10/5): - The room was so cosy and the bed was so comfy! The TV and bathroom were a little dated but nothing to complain about. I had a lovely time, and the food in the restaurant was delicious.
- Natalie (6/5): Incredible staff that made us feel like old friends. Couplde - The staff are incredible. So incredibly friendly and welcoming, they made you feel like old friends.
The location is beautiful and the atmosphere is lovely.. Nothing was too much trouble for them and it was so lovely to meet such amazing people. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the food was nice, (slightly on the higher price) but it was nice. The tea and coffee facilities in the room were plentiful and we had fresh towels every day. The shower was big, and the bathroom was large too, although I would have loved a bath in there. Overall it was a nice stay for a lovely time away. Thank you for having us. i was disappointed that there was no cooked breakfast and that the only option was a continental breakfast, the cereal choice was great, however the croissant i had wasnt very nice and tasted almost stale.
I was a little disappointed with no wardrobe in the room and the stairs were very awkward and slightly dangerous and would probably benefit from a sturdy banister, but it's an old building so the uneven stairs and tight narrow staircases are to be expected to some extent, but I was unaware of this before I booked. I did hit my head twice on the door way coming down the stairs so that is something to be aware of.
I do feel as though the pictures are a little bit misleading.
The doors are very old and gape at the bottom and are quite heavy.
I was also unaware of the check out procedure and as there are no staff there in the morning, it was a bit of a strange checkout.
- Ken (9/5): The Room, Food & Hospitality made for a Great Stay - The self service breakfast buffet was better than expected with fresh coffee, boiled egg machine. Great Bread for the toaster, fresh fruits etc. Dinner was excellent with a great choice. The Hospitality provided by Claudio (the owner) was fantastic The pillows
