Guest Reviews
- Rodos (10/5): - Most beautiful established garden overlooking the dam.
- Blessing (5/5): Beautiful outside, Frustrating on the Inside - Location and Garden. Aircon not warming the room. No DSTV. Noise especially in the morning.
- Graham (8/5): -
- Ettiene (10/5): The staff is excellent and the property is one of a kind will stay longer next time. - Everything about this property is excellent the staff was so helpful and very friendly and the food was very very good.
- Johan (2/5): - The look out is magnificent. Bathroom had a lot of mould.
Room was really uncomfortable. Door banged against the bed. Couldn't pass each other the space was very small.
The meat at the braai was not well done and when I asked well done it was over cooked. Quality of meat wasn't good. Quite pricey for what we got.

- Shane (10/5): - We had a truly lovely stay at Monte Crous Hotel, Restaurant and Venue. The setting is beautiful, with scenic views, a lush garden, and a swimming pool overlooking the surrounding landscape. Our room was comfortable, well maintained, and thoughtfully designed, with a private bathroom, balcony, and all the amenities needed for a relaxing stay.
The dining experience was a standout. The food was exceptional — the seafood, steak, and curry were all outstanding and clearly prepared with care and attention to quality. Breakfast was equally impressive and an absolute highlight, served at the gazebo overlooking the dam. It was a peaceful and memorable way to start the day, with great food and stunning views.
The restaurant offers a warm, romantic atmosphere while still being family-friendly, and the outdoor dining areas add to the overall charm. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome throughout our visit.
With its convenient location near the Vanderkloof Dam and nearby nature reserve, Monte Crous is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with beautiful scenery, excellent food, and great service. We would happily return and highly recommend it.
- Losaba-Xinwa (8/5): Very cute - Clean and lovely view

- Richard (8/5): A beautiful place and happy staff! - Breakfast is served to late. No airconditioning is a problem.
- Paul (8/5): We had an amazing overnight experience at the hotel and would highly recommend this property. - We had dinner out on the veranda overlooking the lake. The view was spectacular, the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. The cocktails we had were a bit bland.

- Desire (9/5): enjoyed every momeny - excellent view with very friendly staff Just need a aircon
- Tatiana (10/5): Overall, everything was excellent, and we would definitely love to come back again. - Nice place to stay halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The view over the dam is absolutely breathtaking. The restaurant offers a great variety of delicious food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with pleasant background music that adds to the atmosphere.
The room is spacious and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed. The resort is beautifully set among magnificent old trees, spread over multiple levels, with a lovely garden. There is also a giant chess set on the property. In the evening, the lighting makes the place feel extra special. The hotel and restaurant staff are friendly, helpful, and welcoming.
- Sikebe (10/5): -
- Luping (8/5): -
- Lizzie (8/5): - Good food, beautiful setting. No prior communication about a capped breakfast system.(R100 pp) No mention about it at booking, check in, breakfast or check out. (We enquired about outstanding charges specifically and still nothing said) They phoned and whatsapped later after we were already en-route again. If they just mentioned this sometime before we left this would not have triggered a bad review.
- Jacques (10/5): Great overnight, better then Gariep halfway mark - Service of staff. Claudine was exeptional with service Prices of cocktails
- Prof B and Mrs C (10/5): - Location and service.

Manager, Riaan , went out of his way to accomodate us.

- Keith (8/5): Very good - The setting was amazing the staff was very friendly and helpful Neighbouring rooms were noisy and shower water pressure was not constant

- Tanya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claude (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (9/5): Superb -
- Lilian (5/5): Discomfort with a million dollar view - The location, the pool, and the view. The meal I had was delicious. However, the steak was overdone as I asked for medium rare. Although the bed was a bit firm for me, the bedding was clean and fresh, and you can see they have freshened the hotel with paint and new flooring (upstairs). I would come stay again, but not on the top level. My room, No. 24 was up very rickety old stairs, with one wobbly stair. This is dangerous.
There were no windows in the room, only a kitchen type stable door, so I had to sleep with the top half open for airflow.
There is no place to hang or pack clothes. No hooks, rail, nothing! The shower toilet and basin are in the room.
No air-conditioning, only an old ceiling fan.
No light switch, I had to reach up off the bed to pull the chain to put the main light on.
No bedside lamp or chair.
I had to move the tabletop fridge to plug the kettle in for coffee. The balcony is like stepping down onto a braai grid. A metal grid for a floor and railing.
The hotel large storeroom upstairs does not close, and it's not great for guests to be able to see the caous inside every time one passes..
I left at first light as I did not sleep well.
I had to negotiate the dark, dangerous stairs down as the light switch is in the reception area.
- Ndumiso (1/5): No signage, no network, never reched the hotel. - N/A After a long drive from the Eastern Cape en route to Johannesburg, we planned to rest at this hotel for one night, EXCEPT that we could not reach the place, —the GPS led us to drive 85km on R369 to Vandekloof. We did not see any hotel signage on our way there, but we trusted the GPS to take us there. Unfortunately, as soon as we got on the gravel/dirt road, there was no network coverage. As a result, we could not call anyone to assure us that we were on the right path. After driving for about an hour and a half, we decided to go back because there are also security issues and a lot of privately owned farms in the area. the fact that we did not meet a single car also made us very nervous. I wish Riaan had warned us about this because we spoke to him several times changing the booking etc. "needless to say the booking is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another time, therefore we have lost the money that we paid there. This is disturbing.
- Bregitha (5/5): Passable -
- Joshua (8/5): Very good - The location was amazing.
The dam view was something else. There is no aircon.
- Johan (8/5): Recommendable. - Helpfulness of the staff.
Safe parking.
Best gardens and surrounding.
Swift service.
Comfortable rooms.
Smart decir Room too hot.
Booking.com booking not materialising
Chef late to prepare breakfast!
- Amanda (10/5): Awesome - The most friendly welcome after a long day's travel. Special thanks to Riaan for going the extra mile, regarding a special request. Riaan is very helpful and outgoing making our stay very enjoyable. Awesome view of the dam. What you get is far better than what you see on their website. The room was neat and spacious . The best steak and breakfast. Thank you to Gordon who was the waiter serving Dinner and Breakfast. Will definitely recommend Monte Crous Hotel Restaurant and Venue
- Johanna (5/5): Great potential for an exceptional stay! - Friendly and much welcoming receiption. Excellent facility with great views. The room needs attention. Coffee station was not stocked. Plug did not fit the basin. Shower head not working.
- Wian (8/5): Very good -
- Nomkhitha (7/5): Pleasant - The food
Friendly staff
Cleanliness Cold rooms with no heater
And hot is not so hot
- Gareth (6/5): Pleasant -
- Js (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pontsho (3/5): Regrettable - The Food is good and the outdoor area is nice The place is said to be the hotel but when we arrive at 23:00 pm, there was no one had to wait to be assisted. We were given rooms without tables, chairs and without wardrobe. No place to put our clothes.
The old lady was so rude and lastly the morning we had to check out there was no hot to wash.
Poor service overall, I would advice black ppl not to book at this place
- Albert (8/5): Very good -
- Jan (9/5): Superb -
