Guest Reviews
- Sandra (10/5): Amazing stay at this onsen ryokan, relaxing and completely enjoyable. - A mix of traditional and modern. A lot of unexpected treats. Very nice and helpful staff. Awesome onsen. The location is a bit out of the way, but if you travel by car it’s not a problem. The garden needs some work.

- Aditya (9/5): Fantastic stay! Great room, location and views. Tasty breakfast. - Deep Sea Curry was amazing. Unlimited alcohol was great. They provided a lot of free amenities. The onsen was also very relaxing. We did calligraphy as well, it was enjoyable. The whole property was very peaceful and staff was attentive. The town of Heda is very quiet and welcoming. We spoke with a few locals and went to nearby izakayas. Kurura Heda is a must-visit place near to the property. The staff could not speak English... But I think that cannot be expected in Japan. Their garden was not kept clean; the grass was not trimmed.
- Aaron (10/5): - The drink bar was lovely and the free bikes was essential for the views of Fuji. Private onsen was amazing. Nothing in particular.
- Anett (10/5): -
- May (9/5): - Rooms were clean, spacious and cosy with all room amenities. The night supper was good and the wide variety of drinks offered was really enjoyable. It was a relaxing stay

- Joe (4/5): Nice place, skip the dinner - The facilities themselves were very nice; the room was spacious (the largest among all of the places we stayed at on the Izu peninsula) and well appointed. The calligraphy room was a nice touch. Private onsen was nice as expected. We would recommend other travelers skip dinner here. We paid ¥8800 per person for dinner, which was a major regret; the food was fancy but flavors were unimpressive and quantity was skimpy. My wife left hungry! Every other ryokan we had stayed at (where dinner often cost half this price) served at least a whole fish in addition to other dishes. Back to the facilities: the water heater had a very loud whistling sound that came on frequently and disturbed both our sleep as well as the serenity of the private onsen. All ryokans provide robes to wear around the property, and compared to other (much cheaper) ryokans we had stayed at, these robes were the least comfortable and worst-fitting.

- Idan (10/5): one of the best stays in Izu - Beautiful facility, open bar, great room, great night snack, amazing onsen!
We loved the stay in the lobby and the amenities. vegetarian manu was lacking
- Bael (10/5): - I absolutely loved my stay here! Everything was just perfect — from the cozy atmosphere to all the thoughtful details. There were so many things to enjoy: the onsen, yoga room, and even a calligraphy room! The staff were incredibly kind and attentive — Takumi and Hosaka especially made me feel so welcomed and cared for.
The location is also amazing. The hotel offers bikes, and I took one out to explore the area — I got to see Mount Fuji and the most breathtaking sunset. It was such a special moment! And the free bar was such a fun surprise! I left feeling relaxed and happy, and I’d definitely love to come back again.
- Kotone (8/5): -
- Polona (9/5): -
- Thibaut (10/5): Perfect hotel experience - Everything about this place is great. The Japanese room is spacious and confortable, there is a private onsen that you can book free of charge and also a free open bar at night. Very nice hotel overall. The only downside is the location as it is 1km from the bayfront.

- Jeffrey (10/5): A perfect place to escape - Free-flow drink bar with snacks and desserts.
Easy and fair reservation system for private bath.
Quality of breakfast foods.
Ample parking. No reservation. Needed.
- Dennis (10/5): -
- Geraldine (9/5): - Zeer mooie kamer, mooie onsen, vriendelijk personeel.
- Skyhigh005 (10/5): -
- Juliana (10/5): Exceptional - The room was really confortable with the private onsen in the room, the food was really good, and the staff was very kind and helpful. The lobby was very cozy with the books and the drink selection at the bar was really good.
- Muruges (10/5): Exceptional - everything from the food, to the room, to the facilities nothing
- Atsushi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jones (10/5): Amazing stay in an amazing place- 5 🌟 - Very nice property with great staff, rooms and atmosphere, they have a free alcohol service from 2pm - midnight in their super cool chill out area where no one was taking advantage of it, a great stay, oh and just down the road was the best view of Mt Fuji
- Adrian (10/5): perfect - breakfast was great and we loved the hotel - especially the staff !! thanks heaps for ringing round and finding us a restaurant on a Sunday night.
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - The open bar, the fun activities, the library. Everything about this location was magical.
- Maxim (9/5): Excellent Stay & Great Value! - We had a fantastic stay here! The value for money is outstanding. The welcome drinks and buffet were excellent, the staff was friendly, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.
The only minor issue was that the room seemed a bit dusty— I suspect this due to my mild allergic reaction. However, it could also have been caused by pollen from nearby blossoms, so I can’t say for certain.
Overall, I highly recommend this place and truly appreciate the hospitality!
- Sophie (9/5): Very pleasant stay! - Best hotel in Heda! Dinner time was late, 8pm.
- Janique (10/5): Absolutely delightful stay. - Everything. Knowing how amazing our stay was, we wish we had stayed 2 nights instead of 1.
The e-bikes were a hit, as was the evening meal and the onsen. Room was extremely comfortable.
Staff were lovely.
- Kh (8/5): Very good -
- Brietta (10/5): Super relaxed stay with spectacular Fuji views close by. - The design and atmosphere of the lobby made it a warm and comfortable place to relax, with the added bonus of free tea/coffee and drinks.
The hotel is located about 2km from seafront and close enough to some amazing Mt Fuji views. Free bicycles available but to travel beyond Heta I would suggest a car from safety perspective. No blackout curtains: I stayed in winter so it wasn't an issue but I don't think I can stay in summer when the sun rises before 5am.
The teas in the lobby were wonderful but would like to suggest adding just one decaf to your selection!
- Conor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Beth (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful, I wish we could have stayed longer! Beautiful onsen including private, great amenities and the staff were lovely and helpful.
- Anastasiya (10/5): Very relaxing place - Free bicycle rent, cool photo spots in the area, different kind of soft drinks, not far from bus stop. there's a place to read and a garden
- Ariel (10/5): Exceptional - AWA Nishi-Izu was a hotel I stumbled upon on Instagram by chance, so I had no expectations, but it turned out to be absolutely wonderful. There are hot springs, delicious tea, and over 20 varieties of sake from different regions of Japan, all of which you can enjoy freely (all-you-can-drink). The most enchanting feature is the garden, where persimmon and mandarin trees are laden with fruit. You can pick them yourself anytime, replenishing your vitamin C while basking in the beauty of nature.
The lobby library is stocked with books and magazines about yoga, travel, and more—perfectly aligning with my interests. While the location is quite remote, simply being here and daydreaming is an unparalleled joy.
The rooms feature Western-style beds paired with tatami flooring, providing a spacious and comfortable setting. The hotel offers a variety of amenities, including different types of tea, coffee, yukata, skincare products, and more, all available for self-service.
On the second floor, there’s a meditation and yoga room, while the first floor houses the hot spring baths. The staff here are incredibly friendly; despite their limited English, they go out of their way to provide attentive service and assistance.
The Japanese-style breakfast was a delightful surprise, featuring my favorite grilled fish and miso soup, along with fresh vegetable salad sourced from local farmers and a selection of fermented healthy condiments. Every bite reflected thoughtful preparation and the authentic flavors of the region.
- Grayson (10/5): Unique hotel in a unique place - The concept of the hotel was really interesting and unique. We enjoyed the free drinks while sitting in the library, it was a relaxing treat. Our room was nice and clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating to English speakers. They even helped us get a reservation at a nearby restaurant, which was delicious. Nothing to dislike about this property
- Andrea (8/5): Very good - Bedroom, night meal free of charge Location
- Martua (10/5): Perfect for finding zen - Quiet location staff food everything
- Bruno (10/5): Peaceful and beautyfull - Everything
- Peggy (9/5): Superb - Helpful and courteous staff, free drink bar, many choices of fermented drinks, excellent breakfast and dinner
Good ambience
Spacious and clean room There's no place to hang my change of clothes in the small private reserved hot spa
- Phuoc (10/5): Exceptional - Location was beautiful. Nice views on the village and the mountains. Wonderful food and staff Everything was perfect.
We were only surprised that the road was through the mountains. As it was dark.
- Timothy (8/5): A special memorable stay at a modernized ryokan - Location close to Heda town and beach - bike rental was outstanding so we can explore the area- orange grove was a wonderful surprise - the oranges are very sweet- making tea and drinks available is also good Food was a little too rich and oily esp for western foods- should have more traditional Japanese cuisine
- Kenneth (9/5): Nice and relaxing last night on the Izu Peninsula. - We just had a brief, one night stay. Would definitely want to stay longer the next time. Very modern decor, ample snacks and drinks set out for our consumption. Had a system of "take what you need" for robes, etc. Very nice and efficient way to provide what is needed, without excess. Breakfast was simple, but healthy and delicious. Bikes for let (free) were nice to visit town and coast as the hotel is a bit of a walk away from the waterfront. Would have liked to try their dinner, but no spaces available when we arrived (our fault, not theirs, for us not making an advanced reservation). We were there in the off season and be aware that restaurants in town close early.
- Ionut (5/5): Nice photos disappointing experience - + clean rooms and modern setup
+ some of the staff speak English - do it yourself approach taken to the extreme, not suitable for a 4 star hotel
- not the friendliness of a Japanese ryokan (nobody to greet you or available at the reception in the morning
- very small onsen compared with alternatives in the area
- very strict dinner and breakfast hours (18 and 8) without the option to change anything
- no fresh fish was served even if the location is close to the ocean
- food served in the half board was average, too westernized and not to the quality of nearby alternatives.
- Lising (8/5): Very good - I like the kashikiri ofuro and the 🍸 bar.its very comfortable
Very relaxing place
- Wanderlust (9/5): Very comfortable, relaxing stay, great environment. - Third time to stay here, this time with the full dinner package. Great selection of local dishes, with explanations about them. Desserts and drinks are now self-service.
Yoga and onsen were comfortable. Really liked the lobby area, with library, drinks and snacks for most of the day. Staff were as helpful as ever.
Used the hotel as a base for 3 days of walking and trekking to the beach, museums, 400 year old rice terraces, local temples and Mt. KinKan. Each time we discover something new about the Heda and Nishi-Izu area.
A very relaxing, quiet environment, no waiters or staff shouting, no digital signage blaring away, you can just switch off and enjoy the place, and being taken care of. Looking forwad to our next stay. Mussel substituted for shrimp in one of the meals, unfortunately really tough to eat, hard to cut and basically tasteless.
- Wanderlust (9/5): Relaxed stay in great surroundings - Second time to visit - this time without the dinner option due to a mix-up with booking.com, but the staff helped us find alternatives. Comfy room, unique lobby area with drinks and snacks, books to read, and plenty of chairs. Enjoyed the private onsen, and the yoga room, with nautical influence. Breakfast was adequate, with extra toast available on request.
Drove down to Odoi down the coast, for the beach and sun, just 20 minutes away.
- Xiang (9/5): Superb -
- Iuliu (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful
- Sougata (10/5): Exceptional -
- Regan (8/5): Very good -
- Jeffrey (10/5): A Haven of Peace and Quiet in Heda - All inclusive. Excellent value. Quality food and beverages. Clean property. Public and private open air baths. Ample parking. Property offers calligraphy courses, yoga classes, and use of rental bicycles. Breakfast needs more variety for guests staying more than one night.
Parking lot needs maintenance.
- Richard (10/5): will be back! - This 22-room property rocks! I love the local flavors and connections! Close to a fabulous (but not crowded) beach. Onsen is perfect and I like the bath on the balcony.
- Clemence (9/5): Amazing stay - The hotel was amazing, I really enjoyed staying there. I especially loved the drink bar and I discovered so much about food fermentation. Books were interesting too.
Lassi, fruity amazake and even breakfast food & dressing were really cared about. The onsen room is a bit small as only two people can use the dryer.
The view from the room is so-so
- Wanderlust (10/5): Amazing stay, with incredible food and drinks. - Amazing stay, with incredible food and drinks. Good access and parking, Hi-Speed wifi, comfortable, quiet and relaxing lobby with open bar. 7-course dinner with a wide range of local foods, beautifully served and presented; and a good breakfast to start the day. Helpful and knowledgeable staff; informal and relaxed setting. Both public and private baths available. Yoga and calligraphy rooms to exercise your mind and body. Wide selection of books in the lobby, along with a wider range of local drinks, and even cold draught beer.
- Yoshiaki (10/5): Relaxed and refreshed - dinner and breakfast
Rounded with free drink
Spa
- Bellamy (10/5): Relaxing - Clean, spacious, modern decor, peaceful and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast was really good! Liked their farm to table concept with elements of fermatation. They also had a complimentaty free flow bar with an excellant variety of drinks. A good Ryokan to getaway from it all and recharge! Not one of the easier towns to get to in Izu. But if you are already planning to explore the peninsular, then it doesnt really matter.
- Glenn (8/5): Excellent. - Free drinks and nibbles after 8pm. Breakfast excellent. Room superb although a higher standing desk/table would be good. No a la carte foods at any time which given that Heda shuts at 5pm is a problem for dinner.
- Bruce (8/5): Relaxed, nice town but room was a bit pricey. - Smart design, complimentary bar was nice, but price at ¥35k per night, was a bit over the top. The price
- Kristina (10/5): Beautiful hotel - Great Japanese style hotel. The garden, the lobby, the onsen and the room give the perfect modern Japanese feeling. Everything was perfectly clean. They provided everything one could forget or wish for.
- Shiau (10/5): Hidden gem in the town of Heda - + Theme of fermentation & health was very well integrated throughout the property
+ Modern hotel design with a lounge designed to gather guests together
+ Open bar at the reception with fruit vinegars. Grape lassi is a must try
+ Spacious well designed room with private bath & high ceilings
+ Best dinner of our entire trip with local specialties & keeping in the theme of fermentation
+ Onsen was both indoors and outdoors & could be reserved since there were few guests
+ Delicious curry for supper
We’ll definitely be back! Nothing. Loved everything about the property.
- Ninette (10/5): Excellent. Worth the trip! - Breakfast was very tasty and good variety of food. The ease of using spa baths was great - and private! Bicycles to use for free was great to explore Heda. The resort was very peaceful and relaxing. The staff was excellent!
- Donny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kyeah (9/5): Superb - Good food, especially soup!
Heda port is a nice place for healing.
- Christopher (9/5): Lovely stay in high end traditional accommodation - Lovely onsen. Beautiful traditional rooms. Excellent amenities, beer on tap, snacks, coffees etc 24/7. Garden was nice…. but could be really stunning. Easy to get there with public transport! Fixed, inflexible meal times. Strange rules on beverages during evening meals.
- Agnes (8/5): Very good - The hotel is very clean and staffs are very helpful and friendly especially Mr. Fujitsu he is very kind to help us reschedule our dinner time as we arrived the hotel late due to flight delayed. Dinner was very nice and we all enjoyed the dinner there. There is not not foods choices for breakfast.
- Agnes (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Teresa (10/5): great food and relaxing experience after a hectic trip in Japan - calm and relaxed nothing
- Leico (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the cleanliness and the friendly staff. Both were superior. Definitely worth the view to travel.
- Spencer (9/5): Superb - Very friendly staff, and really enjoyed their complimentary drinking bar at the lobby.
- Minoru (10/5): Exceptional - Great services that I have never experienced in my life Nothing
- Damon (9/5): Borrow the bikes to get down to the harbour for sunset! - The dinner was superb - great ingredients and the service was also excellent; the lobby drinks bar was an great idea; the bikes to borrow were fun. Check out time at 10 was a bit too early to fit with the concept of a relaxing getaway and recharge.
