Guest Reviews
- Donohue (10/5): -
- Frank (10/5): - Plenty of parking space, direct entry and exit to accommodation without walking through the bar area.
- José Miguel (8/5): -
- Edward (8/5): -
- Phillip (6/5): Would stay again just down to the price and location - Out of the busy areas nice and quiet No food is difficult when type 1 diabetic the mattress sank like a boat was very uncomfortable
- Anne (9/5): - No hairdryer
- Gavin (8/5): -
- CHARLES (10/5): A REALY WELCOMING HOST AND A VERY COMFORTABLE ROOM - THERE WAS NO BREAKFAST THE STEPS UP TO THR ROOM WERE A BIT NARROW AND A BIT STEEP
- Tom (4/5): - No Food except for phone in take away and no breakfast
- saffron (10/5): - The Blue Bell is a lovely pub in a beautiful place. The family room that we stayed in was spotlessly clean and spacious and had everything you could possibly need. The host was extremely friendly and helpful and the atmosphere in the pub itself was very welcoming. I would highly recommend staying here.
- Julie (8/5): -
- Duncan (1/5): Not Good - Nothing Hotel was advertised as serving Dinners and Breakfast neither was supplied outside was dirty and check in was from 16.00 andd no one there.
- Richardson (10/5): Loved the stay, bar was excellent. Staff great company too. Delightful - Lovely and friendly.
- Tina (5/5): It wouldn't take much effort to make it good, but unsuitable for people with mobility issues - The TV has basic channels. Tea, Coffee, tissues provided. Short drive into Boroughbridge. Good car-park space. Good access to pub via back door. Good beer in the bar. Friendly Landlord. Lots of steps. The double rooms are up 2 flights of narrow stairs. One of the rooms had a soiled toilet, little hairs on everything, a very narrow shower door, and a huge sleepy wasp appeared on the floor (March). Another of the rooms has a nasty smell, a bobbly bed-sheet, a droopy shower-head, and a dirty hand-towel. The third room has a wobbly double bed, noisy plumbing, and a bath (no shower cubicle).
- Nicki (8/5): - Just as i put previously, good value, friendly people, great location. N/A
- Brian (7/5): Great place to visit, needs to provide at least breakfast. - Friendly atmosphere and staff. No food available as restaurant not open.
- Lesley (7/5): Okay - Wasn't offered breakfast
- David Raymond (8/5): - good but had to order and pay for it
- Joanne (10/5): -
- John (8/5): - The general atmosphere was very relaxed and we had personal freedom of the house, almost a home from home. Website indicated that breakfasts were available but the Manager Paul stated that they had discontinued the service because they hadn't got the staff available. Had we known this beforehand we would probably have stayed elsewhere.
- Katie (7/5): -
- Wendy (9/5): -
- Sheila (5/5): - Very steep and narrow stair case. Disappointed that no food was available for evening meal or breakfast as it was advertised as being available on their listing when i booked. Not good when you are diabetic and have to eat regularly!
- Robinson (7/5): -
- Timothy (8/5): -
- Guesty5 (9/5): Lovely, dog friendly and comfortable stay. - Loved our room, cosy, great size, good layout, perfect for us and our dog.
The place was clean, lovely views, nice shower and had everything we needed. Nothing really, would stay again
- Natalie (8/5): - It was clean and spacious
- Peter (8/5): Very satisfied - did the job nicely - Super-convenient for us. Nice & quiet. Good price. Standard double bed - would have been nice if bigger. But then It would likely have been more expensive, so.....
- Rands (10/5): -
- Shaw (10/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable bed and lovely room. Very good nights stay! N/A
- Jacqueline (10/5): - Very friendly and the room was clean and very comfortable
- Melanie (4/5): It could be a great place but a bit run down . Would stay again because of location - Very close to boroughbridge and race coarse Big cobwebs in room . Says food but didn’t do evening meals so had to go out . They were friendly .
- Stella (7/5): For £90 we have had better value with the addition of breakfast. Otherwise quite acceptable. - Perfect location for our visit to Flower Show at Newby Hall. Room clean and pleasant. Friendly host, nice white wine in the bar before retiring No breakfasts, no shower gel, a standard double bed perfectly acceptable but like everyone we know most people tend to have king or super king size like us.
- Kate (9/5): Overall great stay thank you - Huge room and lovely and clean Alot of stairs
- Benedict (8/5): -
- Matt (10/5): The Blue Bell holds some very special memories for us and Paul is always happy to see us again. 101% - Paul is an excellent host, the kind of guy who makes you feel truly welcome and he remembered us from our first stay.
He put us in the same room we had before, which C loved, I clicked with Paul as we hail from the same neck of the woods originally and had some amazing banter.
The room was lovely, very olde worlde, comfy bed, beams in the ceiling (mind your head if tall), and whilst not 5 star you wake up feeling at home.
Have a drink in the bar, it's lovely, the locals are friendly, all the local attractions are minutes away.
Why pay silly city centre prices when you can stay at The Blue Bell and just skip into to town in the morning? The fact we didn't we didn't have the chance for a second night
- Michele (7/5): - The setting was beautiful. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Bed was uncomfortable.
- Ian (10/5): Good location to Newby Hall; very impressed. - Room was spacious with all you needed.
- Joke (7/5): -
- Matthew (6/5): -
- Ailsa (7/5): - Good location, clean, good price, warm welcome. Noisy as live music downstairs till 10.30, then fine.
- Adrian (5/5): Accomodation good but no food. - The location of the Blue Bell and a generous car park. Despite large signage on the building advertising food there was no provision for evening meal on site. This meant we had to find an evening meal elsewhere. Additionally breakfast was not available before 9am which as we were attending an event locally and needed to be there before 9am meant that breakfast was missed.
It should be made a little clearer on the listing that food is not available and breakfast prior to 9am not available.
- Morgan (8/5): Nice clean room. Good value. Friendly place. - Simple. Clean. Room was fine. Landlord friendly.
Good value for money . No frills.
- Bill (6/5): Value for money, but if you are not serving food say so at the point of booking - The only main down side is the hotel advertised food, but no food was available, if we had know this at the point of booking we would not have booked No food, so had to travel to another pub for food
- Ronita (8/5): Enjoyable - The staff and atmosphere. Nothing
- Kajal (10/5): Exceptional - really nice team and helpful. pictures don’t do the place justice, rooms were very modern and comfortable
- Ann (1/5): Would definitely not recommend this place especially not for elderly people. - Nothing They put us in the attic room i am disabled and have one foot in a boot due to fractured ankle the stairs were too steep once up there frightened to come down. My husband is also disabled and almost fell down the stairs when going up. No restaurant open for evening meal only food left over from a funeral. No one around when we left therefore no breakfast available. No wifi available there was no password provided. No toiletries apparently the previous person had taken them. Bath towels had a bad odour.
- Angela (6/5): Not what I expected but nice size room - Location and family room is nicely decorated and has 2 separate rooms Musty towels. Advertised as offering food/breakfast but that wasn’t the case. No Wi-Fi in a poor signal area. Winter fluffy bedding in the heat wave. A party was going on which took over the whole place so couldn’t even stay for a drink
- Simon (9/5): Superb - Very accommodating clean and comfortable
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (10/5): Great stay - Great location, very friendly Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (9/5): Great owner, friendly pub, great family room - Really friendly owner, fun pub, nice size family room, good location No WiFi but that’s not a massive issue
- Sarah (8/5): Friendly, clean but no breakfast - Clean and spacious family room No breakfast and were not advised when booking
- Peter (5/5): Not quite what I was expecting.... - OK When we arrived we were told that the restaurant had shut earlier even though the website stated that it was open until 9PM on a Sunday. It would of been nice to have been told at least the day before. (This was blamed on the previous owners)
Also the shower temperature controller was broken and we only just about managed to get it down to a usable temperature but the worst was out of 4 UHT Milk containers, one was empty but still sealed as well as 2 of them being curdled! And the bin next to it had not been emptied from the previous stay and was still full of rubbish!
- Sue (10/5): Great place, nice people - Great little pub, very friendly people and room was great. Will definitely stay again *****
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): opt to stop here every time - Always stop here when working local, great staff, so welcoming and i love the weekly quiz nights, they make me feel part of a team literally no faults, love it here
- Andrew (7/5): Good stay , nice place , great breakfast. - Unfortunately they didn't offer evening meal as only open few weeks ago . But fantastic breakfast. Stairs really small .
- Karen (8/5): Very good - Clean well presented. Staff were helpful and friendly. As we're the other patrons of the pub. Difficult to maintain temperature of shower.
Sockets too far away from beds.
- Davies (8/5): Very good -
- Scott (8/5): Would stay again, clean and quite! - The room was spotlessly clean, quite and well furnished. The pub was very quite at night so a peaceful sleep! Wifi code In the room.
- Steve (1/5): Bad -
- Julie (10/5): Great experience. - Nice friendly barman and customers, various events different nights, great beer. They don't really do food at the moment, but plenty of takeaways available that deliver to the pub, barman will provide plates and knives and forks etc.
- Jamie (7/5): Good -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb - The room was lovely and spacious and a comfortable bed, ensuite bathroom with good showerA great cooked breakfast served by a good host. A lot of stairs to access bedrooms
- Rands (9/5): Superb -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Very friendly place to stay we where also given the option of a full English in the morning which was nice Entrance hall
- Sue (3/5): Not hurrying back - It was quite handy for a walk into Boroughbridge and had parking. The room, up a narrow staircase, was comfortable and clean I was the only guest staying … and I soon discovered why…
The welcome was rather off- hand with the manager saying he would now have to go out to buy ingredients for my cooked breakfast!
Breakfast was very minimal- I’d chosen orange juice but it was clearly an economy brand of orange squash.
The manager explained that they had recently taken over the premises - surely if they want to build a reputation
& attract B&B customers they should
try a lot harder?
- Rick (7/5): Good -
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely comfortable room. Warm welcome
- Elizabeth (9/5): Would defo go back again - The new owner was wonderful very accommodating and alough he didn’t have a chef in he made a lovely full English breakfast for me and my family top guy
- Marti (7/5): Good enough for a night. - Booked the family room which had lots of space and was great for the two adults and our four legged companion. The location was great for out needs visiting Harewood House, Fountains Abbey, Ripon, Harrogate etc. Staff were polite and helpful. And we very much enjoyed the shower. Can't help but think they maybe forgot about our booking till late on possibly? We arrived at 5.30pm and they were still making up the room. I'm only 6ft, but the bed was very much too short for me, and beware of those low beams and light fittings, ouch!! Would have personally liked plain black coffee, but all the sachets provided were pre mixed with sugar/milk. The noise from the pub underneath was quite loud but I guess that's to be expected on a Saturday evening.
- Maureen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (5/5): Passable -
- Alison (1/5): We didn’t stay as the sheets were blood stained - The room was dirty (dead insects around) live spiders, toilet paper on stairs leading to room etc) there were live spiders in the bathroom, blood on the sheets …. The list could go on and on As above
- June (9/5): Superb -
