Guest Reviews
- Tracey (10/5): A welcome break in a beautiful part of our country, meeting wonderful new people - The location was the perfect spot for an overnight stay, although now I would like to spend a few more nights. Accommodation was made for our late arrival, and we were served a most delicious meal. Really enjoyed meeting the wonderful owners, Werner, Bernadett and Michael. We were also packed a breakfast meal as we needed an early departure. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor of the hotel too. I did not see a hairdryer in the room, but it was far too early for me to ask for one
- Rainer (8/5): Enjoyable - The quirkiest accommodation we have ever stayed at. Difficult to describe the old worldly charm. The hosts (Bernadette and Werner) were super friendly and welcoming. Lovely to hear the history of the hotel from them. Wishing them everything of the best with the alterations and plans especially with the recent floods which closed Meiringspoort having such an effect on the town.
- Tracey (9/5): - Loved our stay there, room had everything we needed and breakfast was yummy. The hotel Owners were an amazing couple and we really enjoyed our time interacting with them and appreciated them suggesting places in De Rust we should visit. No dislikes - was a fun hotel away from the norms.

- Bernd (10/5): If you want to experience something different wit characta, this is the place. - Werner is a fantastic host. We could park our bike in his garage. The next day he came with us on his one bike and show us some great places, the waterfall and a very special cafe. Afterwards he came with us on a gravel road. Great guy!
- RuanvH (10/5): - We were a group of friends who bike packed through town, and the hosts were very accommodating and friendly, and even helped us plan out our routes for the following day. Facilities were better than expected, and a great atmosphere with other guests too. Will highly recommend.

- Gary (10/5): Warm and friendly. Great food and atmosphere. We will be back. - It was old school charming with great atmosphere. The food was fantastic and the Bernadette and Wynand were amazing hosts. We wish them all the best for the ongoing work they are doing on the property and we can’t wait to come back to visit. Nothing considering that they are working on upgrades/changes over time.

- Gerald_db (9/5): Excellent value and superb food. - The friendly atmosphere and the superb dinner cooked by the owners was amazing. The breakfast was really nice also. I will definitely stay here again. The hotel has a real old world charm. Nothing bad.
- Henrik (10/5): - A charming, well-preserved hotel that feels like stepping back in time. The interior is authentic and full of character. Werner was very helpful with ideas on what to see in the area and clearly cares about the town. Good food, clean rooms and I had a very pleasant stay.
- Dricky (10/5): It is the place to stay in De Rust. Warm welcoming atmosphere. The hospitality makes you feel like family - It is vintage

- Helga (10/5): Excellent - Everything was wonderful
- Derek (5/5): -
- Anton (9/5): A period experience well worth exploring. - An excellent example of an early Mid-century property and decorated in period correct style. Some upgrades in progress. Extremely promising.
- Henriette (10/5): - The hosts were fantastic.
- Jonathan (10/5): The bar was open to regulars, the owner made a large braai and we felt like part of the community. - Breakfast was good. The owners of the hotel were friendly and extremely attentive. Hotel stood empty for many years and is being refurbished in the character of the original hotel. Very interesting and lots to look at. Personally, there was nothing to dislike. The blue door handles were rather out of character.
- Pieter Van Heerden (10/5): - Everything about the hotel is charming, taking you back in time with their excellent music and decor. Excellent food and owners take personal care of guests.
- Duane (10/5): Perfect well priced for an overnight stay. - The hospitality was awesome, ostrich fillet we had the evening was fantastic and the service from Ethan at the bar top notch. Werner and Bernadette welcomed us with smiles and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Will definitely visit the Hotel again. Nothing comes to mind.
- Nadine (10/5): - Breakfast was exceptional, watched the eggs being collected directly from their own hens.
Dinner was amazing with ostrich steaks done to your liking or to the chef’s recommendation (perfect).
The bar area (not normally our “thing”) was greatly convivial and brought the guests together as the host, Werner entertained and amused us with tales about the Hotel’s beginnings. It’s still a “work in progress” as they lovingly restore the whole place. To us, it can only get better and better! Highly recommended!
- Milne (10/5): -
- Helené (7/5): - We've never stayed in a cleaner place! It was immaculate and beautifully put together. The welcome was a bit overly familiar. We opted for a hotel booking to avoid the guesthouse/b&b experience and were after something less personal than what we found. It was charming and clean and good, just not what we expected from a hotel booking.
- Herman J (9/5): The fond memories of our stay and the kindness of our hosts will follow us for a long time to come. - An outstanding feature of our stay at Hotel De Rust was the friendliness of our hosts. Werner and Bernadette are amazing hosts and did everything (and more!) to make us feel welcome and to make sure we enjoy our stay at their hotel. Nothing. It would be inappropriate to complain about anything.
- Longchamp (7/5): Basic accomodation but friendly - Lovely owners, friendly bar, very good dinner No heater in room in winter. No hair dryer, no glasses in room.
Fairly new owners told us they have plans to renovate rooms.
- Van (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shayne (9/5): Superb -
- David (8/5): Excellent personal service in a traditional country hotel - Very warm welcome from Bernadette and Werner at the town hotel they have recently reopened , with plenty of personal service and attention. The meals were just what we needed- warm, nourishing local specialities. The village is very friendly- it was good chatting with the locals in the bar. Nothing major
- Brian (7/5): Lovely hosts in a charming old hotel. - Our hosts Bernadette and Werner were very warm and welcoming. They are restoring the hotel lovingly and if you like Old World Chsrm and committed owners, this is the place fir you.
- Ebert (9/5): Superb -
- Shaun (10/5): Perfect - Wow!!! A wonderfully unforgettable stay. The hotel is as warm and wonderful as the hosts. It is a unique hotel experience that we will never forget but often recall fondly.
- Deidre (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vasathaven (10/5): Seamless checkin, comfortable room, great host, great location on the main street. - I was there on business for one night. The room was spotless and the water was super hot on a chilly night. The host was super responsive, even helped me with a new toothbrush as I had forgotten to pack one. Nothing
- Charles (7/5): Good -
- De (9/5): Superb - Enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Clean and neat hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast was very tasteful.
- De (9/5): Superb - Nice, clean and comfortable rooms. Good breakfast and friendly and helpful staff.
- Trinka (8/5): Very good - Fantastic for a sleep over. All you need and breakfast enjoyable,
- Kathi (10/5): The owners are amazing people, friendly, accommodating and helpful in every possible way -
- Neil (10/5): Classic Karoo hospitality. - Wonderfull old school charm run by a delightful couple
- Zel003 (9/5): Superb -
- Ancherien (8/5): Very good -
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Carl (8/5): Very good -
- Vieira (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Old fashioned hotel, as in 1960s style, with decor that is sometimes a bit basic but interesting. Owned and run by a very friendly man and wife team, the wife being the chef and makes a superb pepper ostrich steak. As a traveling motorcyclist it was great very friendly bar causes in which I could while away the evening and caused me a slight hangover, nicely fixed by the simple but hearty breakfast served the next morning. If you are looking for a fancy place to impress then stay away but if you enjoy old, traditional, out of city, family hotels this is well recommended.
- Kevin (7/5): Good - THE SHOWER IN THE BATH TUB
- Bartley (9/5): Superb - Amazing place and histiry
- Swanepoel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carl (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roxanne (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are warm and welcoming. The importance of personal touch can never be over emphasised. Werner and Bernadette remember each guest's name and you are treated like long time friends.
The windows have blackout curtains!!! I need a dark room for a good night's sleep.
There was safe and secure parking.
I enjoyed the light breakfast. Werner introduced the guests to ostrich sausage and it was good. The sugar bowl, milk jug, butter dish etc at the table reminded me of my ouma.
The hotel is full of artwork, rugs etc from a bygone era. It is important to remember that the hotel is a work in progress. It is a seriously old school hotel....if you are looking for modern, this is not it!
It is on the main road, there is some traffic noise. It settles down during the night and starts up in the morning. I'm a light sleeper and I had no problems in having a good night's sleep.
We enjoyed our stay tremendously and look forward to more visits.
- Kate (9/5): Superb - A beautiful step back in time with fabulous hosts
- Susan (10/5): Old world charm with focus on social gathering and meeting new friends. - Great location, great hospitality
- Snyman (10/5): Brilliant place to stay to explore the area, did two trips through Meiringspoort to enjoy scenery. - Overall excellent experience, from check in to check out - service outstanding. Bernadette & Werner made my wife's birthday (unbeknown to them) a special outing for us. Dinner and breakfast really delicious. Thanks again. No complaints whatsoever.
- Tania (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are so welcoming. The hotel is a rustic gem! We had a wonderful stay and a great social evening at the bar- meeting up with other travellers. Thank you De Rust Hotel - lifelong memories ♥️ Nothing
- Petro (9/5): Superb -
- Alan (9/5): lovely stop over with warmest welcome - If you seek super luxury don't stay at Hotel De Rust. If you love the idea of a functioning welcoming Karoo hotel this is the place. The owners and helpers could not have done more to make this a great stop. Or maybe they could have if we gave them the chance. Very much recommended. Nothing to say
