• Monica (9/5): My husband and I appreciated the kindness of the staff and the opportunity to experience more of Japan’s culture during - We enjoyed the tatami style room and bedding. The staff was extremely helpful and kind, and made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. The onsen was also a nice amenity to enjoy. The connecting restaurant was delicious. The breakfast and dinner allowed us to experience Japanese cooking in such a fun way!

Authentieke ervaring die een mooie aanvulling is om een ander deel van Japan te beleven dan de grote stede - Het voelde als een Japanse ervaring, heel gastvrij en lief personeel, goed restaurant, goed ontbijt, fijne onsen. Dat heeft meer met ons te maken dan met het hotel: Wij zijn niet gewend aan harde bedden. Slapen op een futon vonden we toch wel lastig. Maar ik had de ervaring van Asama Onsen Fan niet willen missen.

• kazushi (9/5): のんびり出来てよかったです。 - 前回もそうでしたが、スタッフはとても新設・丁寧な方々で、色々な話しも聞けてよかったです。 前回と違い、料理が別料金になってしまいましたが、やっぱり美味しかったです。 建物の築年数的に仕方がないのですが、お風呂がもう少しリフォーム出来れば最高なのですが… 宿泊前に何回か電話連絡をしたのですが、日中なかなか連絡が取れませんでした。留守電を入れてからは折り返し連絡を頂けましたがうまくつながるようにして頂けると助かります。

• Makiko (7/5): - スタッフの方々のご対応が大変丁寧で、フリードリンクも清潔に準備されており、掃除や説明書きも細部まで配慮が行き届いていました。家族で目一杯遊び尽くし、夜はぐっすり眠るだけなので、ハイシーズン中のリーズナブルな宿泊は大きな魅力です。大変お世話になりありがとうございました。 ドライヤーがお風呂(脱衣所)に1つしか設置されていない上、真夏にクーラーの無い脱衣所環境は辛かったです。状況が分かっていれば、早めにスタッフさんへご相談できたのかもしれません。今後のお客様への配慮につながると幸いです。気になったことはこの1点のみで、スタッフの方々の丁寧なおもてなしは最高でした！ありがとうございました。
• Fumio (8/5): 家族で楽しめました！ - 食事の味•量ともに大満足です。 また、スタッフさんも皆優しく、明るく丁寧に対応してくださいました。 囲炉裏のご飯は、初めてでしたが、雰囲気よく最高！ 建物は相当古いと思いますが、明るくリメイクされていて、集客の為の努力をしているなと感じました。 せっかくの源泉かけ流しなので、お風呂を改修していただけると、もっと良いかと思います。
• Ai (10/5): 最高の家族旅行！ - 食事がとても美味しくスタッフの方々が親切。囲炉裏を囲んでの食事は子供たちも大興奮でした。お風呂も最高でした。シャンプーバーも良かったです。お部屋は二段ベッドのお部屋にしましたが、いつもとは違う空間で面白く、またゆっくり休むこともでき、楽しめました。フロントにゲームや飲み物も置いてあり至れり尽くせり！リピートしたいです！ 特にありません。

• Ido (10/5): Great place, amazing value - We had a great time there, the staff was super helpful and hospitable and the onsen and room were clean and comfortable. we especially enjoyed the downstairs lounge room where we had a good time playing in the original nintendo famicom that they have there. We recommend this place for anyone visiting matsumoto on a budget, you get more than what you pay for!

• Amelia (1/5): I want my money back!!!! - THE HOSTEL WAS CLOSED AS I WAS THERE. No light was turned on, no customers no staff nobody. And nobody picked up the phone. We knocked and banged every doors but nothing happened! It was a terrible feeling after long tiring day. PLEASE AVOID THIS HOSTEL AT ALL COST!!! It is scam!! We were in panic looking for other hotel as it was already dark and minus 5 degrees. This happened in February 2025.

• Gregory (9/5): Mountain town relaxation on a budget - The facility was clean and staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a bit far from downtown, but I enjoyed just walking an hour into town.
• Crawford (7/5): Fantastic food, retro vibe - The food was amazing, superb value for money. Both the dinner and breakfast had a great variety of tasty and filling dishes. There were not many staff, but they were all very nice, professional, and welcoming. The room and other facilities were fairly clean but quite old. Boardgames for rental and a small game room with a retro famicom game were fun touches but may feel outdated. The room we stayed in that had been renovated to house bunkbeds was fun for my young son. The room was quite dusty in some areas, especially near the beds. The communal bath had tatami floors for the shower area which was a bit strange.

• Tricia (9/5): Relaxing experience at a traditional onsen ryokan in Asama Onsen near Matsumoto City - A lovely traditional onsen/ryokan in a town not far from Matsumoto City. The room and hotel was very clean and quiet, and it was only minutes away from the bus stop to Matsumoto City. There were hiking trails up the hill, and the onsen temperature was perfect for relaxing. The staff were very kind and caring. The futons in the room seemed a little thin, but that could just have been that we are Americans and not used to them. We solved that by using 2 each, and that was more comfortable. The food at dinner was delicious, but it was too much for 2 50-somethings. I requested less food the 2nd night, but we were given the same amount, which we could not come close to finishing, and I really don't like food waste.

• Nikki (8/5): Really good first stop. - This was such a great hostel. The bedroom was fab, the onsite restaurant was good and the onsen was excellent too. There was hardly anybody there which seems such a shame. It was a little far out of town especially when you are on foot, but the walk along the river to it was fab.
• Yotam (10/5): One of the best hostels I have ever been to. Super kind staff, great restaurant and good facilities. - Such a nice stay. Very convenient facilities and rooms, especially having an onsen and a restaurant, all as part of the hostel itself. The hills nearby were really nice and you can get some really nice views walking them up. Even though the location was a bit far from centre of town, the area was still really nice and special.

• Matthias (10/5): Exceptional - The best hostel I have ever been in. Great food and Sake in the restaurant and the Onsen is wonderful after a day of hiking. It is a bit old school but I love that. You can also easily reach Lake Misuzu by foot.
• Naomi (8/5): Very good - A great experience. Our lodging included meals and we hadn't realised that the Matsumoto specialty is horse meat which shocked our kids. But the staff were accommodating and changed the set menu for following meals. I recommend making it clear what you will and will not eat well before you arrive. The food was then the best part of the stay. The beds have thin Japanese style mattresses and the sleeping bunks were not a favourite of the adults or older kids but were loved by the younger ones. A nice way to be introduced to onsen too. All in all a special and unique experience for the whole.family.

• Nikola (8/5): Short, sweet and funky! - The girl at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming! I liked the funky style of the hostel, too. The room had a nice desk area and it was easy to check in and out. I also enjoyed the view from the room and all the birds outside in the morning. The beds weren’t too comfortable. Only one pillow is not enough. The onsen was a little old and gross, plus my mom said the room smelled weird but I didn’t notice or mind. Even though we didn’t eat there, I didn’t like the idea that they served horse in the restaurant, but maybe that’s just a complaint about Japan in general, and honestly I feel that way about all animals, so it’s not specific to the hostel.

• Ani (10/5): Exceptional - Such amazing value for money! We had six of us staying in their family bunk room and it was so comfortable and warm. The onsen, although small, was lovely after a day exploring Matsumoto. Attached to the hostel is a fantastic restaurant and the staff booked us a table when we checked in. Highly recommended. Another bonus is the free parking. Would come back here for sure.
