- Colleen (4/5): It was a nice stay but not worth the money - Stunning property in stunning location The decor in bedroom is very dark not enough light at all
Although lovely
Cobwebs on ceiling and on window breakfast was u see cooked
- Rob (10/5): What a find! If you want to get away from the chaos for a couple of quiet days, look no further!!!!! - A fantastic find, the interior design in this hotel is first class. The staff are all really warm and friendly. The location is beautiful. Food was fabulous too. N/A
- June (10/5): Colin totally went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and the fantastic chef who made the most amazing ham eggs - The location is very peaceful the odd donkey and sheep are the only background noise Takes a while for us oldies to get the tech đ«Ł
- Louise (10/5): Lovely place but expensive. - Everything! What a wonderful place! We loved it all. So stylish. Staff were lovely too. Slightly disappointed as we had to leave midway through our stay before our second night owing to a family emergency and one of the members of staff said they would talk to the owners to maybe get us a a bit of a refund but nothing happened.
- Nick (3/5): We arrived, and the Penny Bun was deserted and completely shut despite our booking - Hi, I would like to give you a bit of feedback on our stay. We arrived, and the Penny Bun was deserted, I mean Marie Celeste deserted - no 24/7 receptions as indicated in your email, no bar, no restaurant, which I now understand is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. When I tried to call, all I got was a pre-recorded voicemailâI eventually realised that there was a back entrance that would not open, a lucky search on my phone found that I had a random email from Goki with key codes. I promptly had to go to Waitrose for some food, as there is nothing available in the village. All of the above could have been avoided if I had been given proper notice, and perhaps I would have booked elsewhere. When we did eventually get in, the room was lovely and very tastefully decorated - I had a peek through the restaurant window, and that looked lovely too - If only... You have obviously spent a great deal of time and money in equipping the Penny Bun, but the customer experience for Monday and Tuesday guests is woeful, and I think I am due at least an apology and perhaps a refund
- Jennifer Suzanne (10/5): Great stay with lots of attention to detail - Very comfortable beds with linen sheets.
Calming atmosphere.
Delicious food.
Lovely area.

Delicious food.
Lovely area.

- Alex (10/5): - Immaculate design, incredible food, wonderful staff. We had a fantastic stay and canât wait to recommend this hidden gem to people.
- Michael (9/5): The ultimate Yorkshire staycation. - The location was beautiful, the room too.
And great food.đ Few too many passcodes for doors.
- Nihan (10/5): it was one of the nicest stays we had in the uk. they even accommodate us vegan breakfast/dinner. thank you! - design of the hotel, people work there, the service we get!
- Ching-Yin (9/5): - Room 3 is a good sized room with a great shower. Floor heating worked great, and the room is very well insulated - I even turned the heating down during the night. We had stayed in Room 1 December the previous year, and found it too dimly lit, but I am pleased that there was no such issue in Room 3 this year.
- Madison (10/5): -
- Liza (9/5): - great food and super relaxing stay not keen on toilet facilities in the room
- timothy (10/5): fab - fab no drinks on afternoon

- belynda (8/5): excellent staff, food good. lovely location - the location, the staff, the decor i didn't like the bathroom arrangements. I was sharing with my adult daughter and felt uncomfortable.
- Sally (5/5): Disappointing for us and the staff who were all lovely. - Views were lovely and staff very welcoming. Cost- we paid a boutique hotel price for what is a pub with rooms.
We stayed in Room 2 decorated nicely but very dark. Dark walls and furnishings with minimal lighting and a small window. I doubt you could apply makeup or shave safely in the bathroom as that was also quite dark.
- Tracy (9/5): Relaxing stay in a beautiful location. - Beautiful location with great views. Only a couple of miles to Ilkley. The property is very stylishly decorated and has a relaxing laid back vibe. Everything is top quality and finished to a high standard. Breakfast was gorgeous, with a continental and cooked breakfast with proper barista coffee included. Looking forward to our next visit. The rooms have a nice relaxing zen feel, but they are a little on the dark side. You may need to take a little mirror with a light for make up etc. and a portable reading light if you take a book.
- Pol (9/5): Excellent atmosphere, setting, staff, food, decor. Nothing amiss on quality here! - Decor, food & drink selection, staff friendliness, location The subdued lighting in the room was very atmospheric, however there was no option to switch to a 'normal' room-wide lighting mode for general tasks. Bedside lighting was not positioned sufficiently high to allow for reading in bed, a missed trick. A metal chimney cowl had come loose and rattled persistently in the wind throughout the night - though it was a particularly windy night. Though the quality of the premises, food & experience overall was excellent, for B&B alone it was quite on the expensive side.
- Juneann Carson (10/5): Beautiful pub with fabulous food. - Stunning contemporary decor in a old building.
It had a super calm feeling throughout with fabulous spa smells in the bedroom, hall and bar.
Really nice background music.
Lovely choice of really good wines.
The staff were outstanding.đ
We were there for three nights so met quite a few members of the team.
Always there to greet you with a smile.
We had some delicious food. Massive compliments to the chef. Breakfasts were delicious with fresh orange juice , delicious coffee , amazing croissants, Granola and fruit and that was just for starters.
Stunning views from the outside terrace with tables and chairs to enjoy a beer or two.
Beautiful comfy beds and bed linen.
Shower gel sumptuous. Just at times the bedroom was a little dark.
Not the best place to apply makeup or to shave( my husband) đ€Ł
- ANNETTE (10/5): Fabulous design lead pub. Great welcomibg staff. Food imaginative and local where possible. You wont be dissappiunted - Gorgeous design. Great location. Good food. Wines and beers/ales well curated. Molly and other staff excellent. Very engaging and helpful. Very professional. The whole place was stunning design sometimes sacrificing design over purpose, but easy to forgive as a whole. Better kettle and lighting would be good.
- Andrew (10/5): - A very stylish hotel with a calm relaxing vibe. The staff were all pleasant, attentive and efficient. The food and drink was superb, both at breakfast and dinner. It was all excellent.
- Sarah (9/5): - The Penny Bun exceeded expectations. Loved the pared back but exceedingly comfortable and high quality accommodation. The food (evening meal and breakfast) was delicious, beautifully presented, thoughtfully sourced and served by a very welcoming and capable staff. Not to have stayed longer

- Tracey (8/5): Enjoyed our stay but wouldnât rush back. - Beautiful setting
Loved the garden room extension Tbh the bedrooms are very dull, I know itâs all about the mushroom colour etc interior design but the lighting is v poor to the point it is depressing. We stayed in room 1 and had 2 aspects but all a little to dull with dark wood. I actually didnât like it think it not very hygienic that you have to come out of the wet room toilet area to wash your hands. Also lacking in mirror lighting to apply make up, with only having a v small mirror on the window which you had to sit on a very low stool again the long mirror was in a very dark area.
I would like to say staff are excellent and very helpful they get 5*
- Richard (10/5): No expense spared classy get away with amazing food - Amazing attention to detail and beautiful design as well as unreal food. N/A
- Lee (7/5): Lovely relaxing stay, food and hotel lovely, just a few little changes would make it even better. - The property was decorated to a really high standard. The location is beautiful. A lovely place to stay. Products in the room were high quality. The room was very dark, which made it hard to get ready. More in room would make it better, shower cap, toothpaste etc. And top up of water for room.
- Janet (9/5): Beautifully restored property with Scandi theme, great food and very good service - The staff were excellent, service was very good, food excellent. The room style is Scandi chic, almost Scandi noir (in brown) and there is a little bit of form over function but overall finished to a very high standard and comfortable. little extras like the treats cupboard are worth a smile Bedroom a little impractical in some respects - low lighting, tiny washbasin, too dark and no hanging space.
Breakfast food was excellent but very slow for all diners who were a little impatient by the time they received food
- Andy (9/5): Superb - Friendly, welcoming staff. Great food. Great attention to detail everywhere.
- Lynsey (10/5): Thank you for an exceptional stay and dining experience. My partner and I have been fortunate to visit many wonderful pl -
- Josh (10/5): Amazing place! - Loved the property, great decor and vibe. Staff were fantastic catered for all our needs. They made an already special trip (we got married locally and stayed at the penny bun) more special! Top marks, great selection of drinks and really good food.
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful minimalist style, lovely products and touches in bedroom. Very quiet and high quality. Some traffic noise from road (but canât be helped!).
- Fitch (8/5): Very good -
- Marc (10/5): Very peaceful place, great country side environment and view, good food and drinks. Everything is done with taste - Exceptional design taste of the owner !!
Great food and drinks !!
Perfect view over the hills đ
- Casement (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jean (6/5): An experience of two halves. Dining was an absolute delight. Room was gloomy and cave-like! - Excellent chef. Dinner was really very good. Innovative cooking, lovely fresh local ingredients, excellent choice, including delicious vegetarian options. Would appeal to a wide range of tastes. Very friendly, helpful and prompt service. I found the unrelieved, overwhelming brown decor throughout the establishment too much. This is a matter of personal taste, but it wasnât mine. I also disliked the lack of proper lighting in the bedroom. Much too dark and gloomy. I could not read a book due to lack of light. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels and have never experienced such a dark environment to the point where it was really annoying.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Relaxing, zen stay - Incredible place, beautifully designed. Very comfortable. Lovely food
- Nicola (10/5): A incredibly relaxing stay in a beautiful part of Yorkshire - A great addition to yorkshire accommodation. Perfectly located between Ilkley and the lesser known market town of Otley and Otley Chevin.
Very good food and tastefully curated drinks.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ceri (10/5): Fabulous- will definitely return - Beautifully decorated. Some lovely touches such as sweet treats and a great selection of drinks. Love the sustainability promoted through product choices without losing a feeling of a top quality hotel. Fabulous location and wonderful food. The staff and owners were all lovely.
- Simon (9/5): Lovely facilities, small teething issues but I would definitely go back. - Loved the property and decor staff lovely. Room could have done with a TV and a bin and some instructions on how to use the kettle. No Breakfast was very disappointing, need to fix that.
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josephine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (6/5): One night stay whilst touring. - Location good. Bedroom size good. We only met 1 staff member and he was good. Lighting in the room was so dim we had to use our phone torch. I have a pet hate of having bath tub and basin in same room as bed etc. The room size was big enough for two spaces.
I had the impression that the Penny Bun did not know whether it is a pub, a restaurant or hotel. We arrived to a totally unlit and closed building (an email telling us that the âpubâ is closed on Mon and Tues had not reached us). I suspect we only got breakfast on the Wed am because I asked about it, even though I had pre paid.
For the same price we paid I recently booked a 5* hotel in Provence. Although I applaud the aims of the Penny Bun I donât feel we got value for money.
- Kitty (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable and chic room with thoughtful amenities like proper coffee in the room and a communal snack bar. The restaurant was a real cut above with elevated pub classics. We had two dinners, both really good. I had a risotto covered with tasty little morsels the first night and then a perfect steak with a tasty salad with pickled mushrooms, delicious beef fat chips and truffle aioli which they were happy to substitute for the listed peppercorn sauce. My husband had a very good homemade pie and then an elaborate burger with brisket as well the patty. Puddings were a highlight - particularly the pistachio pannecotta with local rhubarb. Everything was well considered with tasty and unusual accompaniments and generous portions - we were stuffed with one main each and then a shared dessert. The manager Gary and his team were lovely and made us feel so at home, he even gave us some change as we were short on cash for the quiz night (great fun) and they kindly packed us venison sausage rolls with a little pot of sauce for a picnic. The setting was beautiful with walks through the Dales straight from the property, it felt very rural but we were still able to order an uber back to Leeds train station (we came with no car). We didn't win the quiz night but I am not sure that was their fault lol. Joking aside we had a perfect trip with no complaints.
- Kathleen (9/5): Lovely stay - will come again - Interior design Nothing
- Mathew (7/5): Comfort and great food - High standard, comfortable and friendly, helpful staff Way too dark in the room. Even with all the lights on! Couldnât see my book well to read. Other guests said the same.
- Valerie (9/5): Cozy on a snowy night. - Design led decor was very interesting. The bed was so comfortable and warm, very cozy. Liked the free snacks.
Restaurant was excellent. The bathroom being so open and very dim!
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Dan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jayney1002 (8/5): Spacious and clean but lacking something comforting - The lady who let us in was very accommodating and friendly. The room and bathroom were very spacious and clean. Bedding was luxurious linen and very warm. Homemade flapjack pieces were a nice touch. The lights are bonkers and a standard switch system would be better. Even when the lights were on, it felt dark. The minimalistic and rural style was quirky but it felt lacking for the price. I expected the bathroom to have underfloor heating as it was a large wet room style. Not a fan of brown toilet paper... Sorry!
- Steven (10/5): Fantastic! - Friendly staff, superbly considered design and interiors
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - An idyllic getaway, beautifully considered design and interiors, delicious flavours and friendly super attentive staff.
Highly recommended, thank you for a wonder but all to brief visit!
- Oliver (6/5): Pleasant - Lovely modern hotel! Lovely say but one thing, The lighting in the rooms is very dark, found it hard to apply make up and had to use a torch to get things out of our suitcase.
- Steph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (10/5): 5 star perfect on every level - Stunning location
Friendly helpful staff
Peaceful comfy bedroom
5 star food No complaints
- Olivia (10/5): Absolutely fantastic - we would love to stay/dine here again! - This hotel is fantastic. The design is beautiful & minimalist but not in a way that feels cold/sterile. It has a lovely atmosphere and the rooms are SO comfy. Food is excellent Nothing!
- Simon (7/5): Good - The lighting well lack of it
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Different, relaxing, good food. - Lovely restaurant, food and staff. Slightly too dark in the bedroom. Almost need a torch to make a cup of coffee.
- Lee (9/5): Superb -
- Rachel (10/5): Tranquil weekend escape - Beautifully decorated and attentive staff. The restaurant had an excellent menu.
- Emlgc (10/5): A superb stay! - We stayed over here on Saturday as we were attending a local event. The hotel room was lovely, everything was well thought out and we were given the best service from check-in to checkout.
We'd absolutely stay again. -
- David (7/5): Good -
- John (8/5): Brilliant, would go back. - Great location, great design inside& very relaxing. Top staff and place to stay. A cooked breakfast option would be better if possible.
- Clare (8/5): Nicely appointed but pricey - Decor very tasteful and friendly staff. Complimentary Flapjack No breakfast available (unless you pre book continental only which we didnât know)
Traffic noise.
- Gareth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rosamund (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carla (10/5): A sensory, tranquil stay which will be repeated - you must stay here - The rooms are tranquility heaven - a real sensory delight - I slept so well. The products used in the bathroom were incredible and the bed so comfy. Little touches at check in from the staff and the honesty cupboard were appreciated and gave the extra touch - Dinner that evening was sublime! highly recommended Heavy doors opening and closing from other guest interrupted the relaxation and mood of the stay slightly
- Declan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Nice theme
- Jade (8/5): No breakfast included - The rooms were relaxing and clean didn't read it properly there was no tv which was disappointing Very pricey for no breakfast included was promised a free drink while waiting and never got one other than that it's a really nice place
- Jessica (6/5): Pleasant - Nice and clean Very pricey
