- Samuel (7/5): Great location, needs improvement - This apartment offers large spacious accommodation, and although advertised as a 2 bedroom house it is actually a 3 bedroom house (one ensuite) and could sleep 6. There is also a permanent 2 bed sofa in the sitting room and a cot is available. Two very large TVs one in the main bedroom and the other in the sitting room. Nice comfortable beds.
The space outside is large with an inner courtyard and an area with a table and one sunbed (only one) overlooking the sea alongside a private walkway, the outside facilities include a BBQ and covered eating area.
The apartment is in a good location for all of the main town restaurants and shops, there is also long seafront terrace of restaurants on the road heading north away from the house (Punta Larga area), mainly aimed at locals so the prices and food were good. Some supermarkets are within walking distance.
The owner is very friendly, and the agents are very responsive on WhatsApp so all our questions were answered quickly. The main problem is that the house is quite dated and in need of repair, e.g. the kitchen cabinets and the en-suite bathroom cabinets are worn or don’t shut. The dishwasher does not work, just makes a noisy pumping sound, and we could not get the oven to work (some instructions verbally or written might have helped).
There were no spare plugs, or extension leads for charging phones, powering laptops etc. The plugs in the main bedroom are behind the headboards so we had to move one to use the socket. Luckily we always take plenty of adaptors and an extension lead. You had to unplug the kettle to use the toaster or the microwave.
The description states that there is free private parking, but this depends on whether the owner parks there, she will move the car if asked (via the agent). There is a small car park at the bottom of the driveway which we thought the owner said we could use, so we parked there a couple of times, but on the last day, a resident said it was private and asked us to move our car.
There is no hot water in the main bathroom sink (or plug) and the hot water in the shower ran out after 5 mins, so you need to wait a few minutes between showers for the boiler to kick back in.
The outside space is not as private as we thought, although the owner is very respectful when you are sitting outside, you are overlooked and there are no net curtains in the kitchen area. The owner was there quite a lot of the time with windows and doors open and she had visitors, probably because it was Christmas.
The WiFi in the lounge is good but is not usable in the bedrooms. The WiFi code was not displayed but can be found on MovieStar router in front of the TV in the sitting room.
During our holiday, there was a noisy gang of youths hanging out everyday by the entrance to the back gate from the rear terrace, smoking, drinking and leaving litter around. They were intimidating so we chose not to use that entrance for the rest of the holiday.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - The location is absolutely perfect for exploring Candalaria on foot or getting out in the car to the rest of the island. Parking is on the road but we never had any problems finding a spot. The access down to the tiny local swim spot was perfect for coming back after a long day and taking a dip to cool down . Few more large glasses and mugs would have been good.
