Guest Reviews
- Thomasjames (1/5): Won't stay their again - Didn't have one Room very mushy smell,no seats in the room, toilet took ages to fill after flush noisy when filling,Shower very dirty
- john (3/5): Dismal. Avoid this place. Though the bar is nice. - Nice bar downstaits No hot water in shower when I checked in.
No bedside light.
No breakfast the following morning! I was told that the takeaway next door, which links into the bar, would be supplying breakfast but the takeaway didn't open until midday!!!! So I left at 7.00am and cycled off to get coffee elsewhere
- Jacqueline (10/5): Amazing views friendly locals dog was fussed and welcomed - Location great Nothing
- Rebecca (5/5): -
- Fiona (8/5): - Great location, basic accommodation above a pub . Old but clean and comfortable... after reading all reviews I was worried. But everything was fine.. cheap and cheerful, bit of noise from outside but it was a Saturday night in a holiday spot and over a pub.
- Natalie (7/5): -
- Aoife (4/5): Wasn’t great, beautiful location but I doubt we would stay again it was okay for 1 night but that would be it - The location The room wasn’t great, the door to the room wasn’t very secure there was a gap on the top and the key when put into the door it wouldn’t open and the handle was coming off. The room very basic there was no side table lamps and the light to the bathroom wasn’t working, there was a hole punched through the door to the bathroom. Through the night the walls were very thin and was quite noisy with people slamming doors and coming outside and even in the morning around 8am there was a lot of noise people moving cups and glasses and kegs. The bathroom window was in view of a neighbours garden there was a see through blind in the bathroom making us worry about going in during the day as we were visible. I used to come here with my family when I was younger and it was fantastic but now it’s not the same and seems abit let go, when we arrived the staff were very blunt and seemed like they didn’t want to help and didn’t inform us on how to check out or let us know about breakfast options or where to go if we did want any.
- Guest (5/5): - Clean No breakfast
- LYNDSAYE (3/5): - Location was lovely Room was tired and shabby
Toilet wasn't working properly
No tea or coffee provided
No toiletries in bathroom
No hairdryer to use as " guests are usually light fingered"
Would not recommend this
- catherine (7/5): - Fab location, basic facilities but clean and great value for money ☺️
- laura (1/5): - Nothing... the dirty place ever so bad we didn't stay Everything dog hair everywhere the smell never been anywhere so dirty 😩
- Jason (8/5): -
- Andrew (2/5): -
- Michael (7/5): Bargain spot to stay in - Nice enough room. Comfortable and clean. Ery noisy with a banging door all night. Abo e a oub so...
- Hilary (10/5): Exceptional - Welcoming pub, happy staff, great pints of Coors and Guinness. Clean and cosy accommodation we stayed 2 nights. Allowed our dog into the bar.. Brilliant welcome for people with dogs. Clean bar, clean bathrooms. Pool table and dart board and tvs showing all major sports. We were there for the All Ireland final weekend. 3 min walk to the beach and to a beach side coffee dock. 20min drive to a petrol station. 10min walk to local Mace. ATM machine outside premises. Bar accepts cash and card payments. Friendly husky dog outside the pub. Room was triple room with bathroom in hallway separate. Shower pressure brilliant and nice and hot water. Room clean, nice view from bedroom window of the beach. No breakfast included, just a chipper attached next door for fish and chips etc.
No door on the shower so made it hard to not soak floors.
Parking limited on the busy evenings but we got lucky getting a vacant spot.
- O (1/5): Never again. - Nothing Worst place I have ever stayed in. We could not stay for the 2nd night. I honestly don't know where to start. I would firstly like to say the staff were lovely people, but this place needs a serious overhaul.
My daughter went to lie down on her bed but the pillow had black hair on it. It was never cleaned. The carpet wasn't even hoovered. We had a bathroom across the hall from our room but it was impossible to shower. There was no shower door or bath screen. No matter how many towels you would put on the floor, the place was soaking. If you want to sleep, do not stay here. 1 30am to 2.30am was a nightmare. People outside our window talking and shouting. Not too mention the music for hours before that. The morning was even worse. We woke up. Opened the bedroom door to walk across the hallway to our bathroom and were greeted with the stench of dog urine and dog faeces on the hallway floor. Safe to say we packed our belongings and had to leave. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
- Johnny (4/5): Only if there's nowhere else to go... - Lovely location overlooking the sea Place was not great. Room extremely basic and could do with a serious upgrade. Got little sleep on first night due to revellers late in the bar downstairs. They don't take credit cards to had to wait for the owner to turn up so I could pay him in cash. This place could be great with a bit of investment but they don't seem bothered..
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Definitely not posh but we liked it. Was clean and had everything we needed. Close to the beach. We were parkrun tourists.
- Kevin (7/5): Good - The staff were absolutely adorable, welcoming and very helpful.
The proximity to and view of the ocean and ocean were a definite surprise plus.
Be aware that the pub doesn't serve food anymore... While the room was smaller than expected and the sounds coming from the hallway and below pub made it seem like walls were made out of paper, the pub closing at 11pm, the view from the room and the proximity to the ocean really made it worthwhile.
Also towns and restaurants are well within driving distance... 30mns to a delicious and well deserved Chinese restaurant.
- Alexandre (1/5): Bad - Nothing except the beach close to it Dirty, dirty, dirty
- Tom (5/5): Passable -
- Marian (6/5): Excellent location and friendly staff - The staff were so welcoming and helpfull, accomodation was adequate. Evening entertainment was excellent with top quality muscians Accomodation was very basic and dated however its was clean
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaelyn (1/5): Bad - Nothing Don’t stay here it’s absolutely horrid. Smells like cat pee, shower is cold, towels and sheets are stained. Worst accommodation I’ve ever stayed in.
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (8/5): A beautiful spot to stay on the wild Atlantic Way. - This was an ideal location. There was a cafe next to the property which was ideal for meals. I did not fine any faults.
- Alison (8/5): Very good - Location and value excellent. Clean. It's a pub and smelt beery, but our room above was ok.
- Audrey (5/5): Needs investment take cash as card not accepted - The location The smell it seamed cleanish
- Nkobodo (1/5): Bad - Friendly lady who received us
Location, beautiful beach a stone throw away
People friendly Not clean, carpet stinks, showered with cold water ,asked for help to sort it out and we were never attended to.
- Jamie (8/5): Very good -
- Marie (5/5): Passable - The location and proximity to the beach. The staff were excellent, very helpful and gave a reduction because of issues with hot water etc. Beds were clean and comfortable. Pub below if you want a pint but no food. Accommodation is small, scruffy and tired. Ensuite the size of a cupboard. Noise from pub below until early hours. Poor location of plug sockets for kettle, chargers etc. This place could be a goldmine if the owners spent a little bit of money to upgrade it.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suman (5/5): Good for a night stay - The property was at a good location with walking access to the beach. Accommodation was with a pub and food shop and the vibe was nice. The bathroom wasn't good at all. There were no proper shower towels and bathroom wasn't clean to the standard.
- Mervyn (1/5): Port no no - Absolutely nothing ,this place should come with a health an safety warning The smell of the place ,the dirt of the place ,the dog hair thick on stairs ,no smoke alarms all broken of thier fitting, towels were stinking an dirty, bed linen dirty ,,,no mirror in bathroom no toiletries supplied ,this place should be took of booking .com,Large holes in the cieling, stains on bed base ,bathroom bogging ,an the bar is completely stinking dirty ,glasses dirty an the group played inappropriate music for people out for a good night's craic
- Pratik (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Great value don't understand the other terrible reviews tbh
- Kenny (1/5): Bad - This is the worst place I have ever stayed in, smelly, dirty dog hair all over stairway and hall, room not hoovered, sink and toilet discussing, and the bed sheets were stained. STAY WELL AWAY,
- John (2/5): Very poor -
- Suzanne (6/5): Enjoyable stay in lovely location and staff always happy to chat to you - Very clean - friendly staff and great location for walk on portnoo beach
- Moira (2/5): Very poor - There was not any food in bar 😕 online said there was
Not even coffee or tea in the room
Very disappointed 😞
- Caron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (6/5): Lots of potential. - The location was fabulous. It felt a little run down, but honestly with a bit of money put in they could make a stupid amount of money from golfers.
- Laura (8/5): Basic but great - The location and pub itself are fab! There was noone there for us to check in but when we came back after 4 the pub was opened and the bar man showed us to our room. As with other reviews there is a dog smell in hallway, but the room was very clean and we had a lovely view. On the Friday night there was music in the pub but I didn't find it too noisy at all from the room. Quite nice noise actually. I slept like a baby! I would stay here again...it's very asual and nothing fancy, but for the price ot was great! Food at the golf course was exceptional on the Friday. Definitely go Here for dinner! We were lucky with the weather being gorgeous and spent all day at the beach As it was out of season and we arrived on a Thursday, nothing apart from the pub was opened, so the nearest breakfast was ardara...only 10 to 12 min drive so not too bad. Would be amazing if the pub did dinner and breakfast.we visited the golf course on the Friday for dinner and the food was AMAZING!!!! And like other reviews...we were only given one roll of loo roll so would be worth asking for another on checking in.
- Damian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ioannis (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (3/5): Poor -
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional - Room was basic but had all we needed. Comfy bed. Clean room. Friendly staff. No issues
- Keith (1/5): I was forced to pay on arrival despite the fact I had already prepaid for the stay through Booking.com. - Nothing Proprietor refused to accept my prepaid booking made through Booking.com.
Booking.com did nothing for me, as a loyal customer, to recover my prepayment.
- Pierce (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent accommodation
- Caroline (5/5): Passable - Very close to beach and was good parking Was advertised as B&B and Restaurant but the don't do food or breakfast not even continental type there is only 1 small cafe to eat with very limited menu .
- Brendan (7/5): Good - The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, as were the patrons of the attached pub. There was no kettle, cutlery nor sugar, but a modern coffee-maker was in situ. The missing items were supplied immediately we asked for them, so it was obviously just an oversight on this occasion.
A mirror in the en suite would be useful.
- Avril (9/5): Superb - All look lovely smell of clean towels Old fashion but it’s grand pity no breakfast plenty cafe outside
- Majella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (1/5): Never again - Not anywhere near as friendly as all the other places they seemed to be surprised when we sowed up the young lad showed us to the room as the landlady was in bed with a hangover the towels were dirty so didn’t shower they advertise food but don’t serve food told us to go to a restaurant 12km away then we find a golf club and cafe 200 m away
- Audrey (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP!!! - I liked the vibe of the place as we arrived, lovely little Irish traditional pub. Staff were friendly.. The music was pumping till 5.30 in the morning like proper rave music and it was so loud the wall were shaking, I told the girl the next day and she looked very surprised and tried to make out it wasn’t there when clearly it was, she promised it wouldn’t happen the next night and low and behold it was just as bad until 3am the noise of all the people thenleaving and getting in their cars 😱 DO NOT STAY HERE IF U WANT TO SLEEP!! Yes I get it’s a pub and I wouldn’t have minded noise and music but not to the extent here until the early hours of the morning and so loud the wall shook… we left early the next morning at 8am and nobody around to talk to everything closed… also it was mid week..
- George (1/5): Alex Politzi could not save this place - What breakfast The whole experience
- Mario (10/5): Best place in Ireland - The location is perfect to look at the stars at night and lovely to walk during the morning around the beach/ horse ride at the beach.
The staff was very friendly, Jude was waiting for us for the late check-in and gave a grief explanation about our triple room. Lovely bathtub.
Highly recommend it. Our stay was too short.
- Andrew (7/5): Good. - Good location.
Clean rooms.
- Sarah (1/5): I would avoid. - It was comfortable and in a good location near the beach. No kettle or coffee making facilities. There was a loud party in the pub directly below the bedroom that was on until 4.30am - it ruined the next day as we didn’t get any sleep.
- Paul (5/5): Friendly atmosphere, good location but in need of TLC... - The bartender Luke who we met on arrival was very friendly and helpful. It wasn't his responsibility to check us in but he endeavoured to do his best. No soap / shampoo for shower.
Water was boiling hot in shower, no control over it
Plugs not working
The hallway smelled badly of cigarettes.
The rooms felt a little tired and in need of refurbishment
- Joss (7/5): Good for a one night stay - Convenience of a pub downstairs, no need to drive... Good live music also! There was almost no toilet paper.
It said that food is available at the premises, but it is not.
Since the rooms are above the pub, you can hear all the noises coming back from there. It wasn't too much of a problem for me, as I stayed in the pub till midnight, but just warning others if they want to rest - better to find another accommodation.
- Malic (7/5): Good - Location just fabulous ! fresh smelling room( lavender scent which I just loooveeee), staff friendly The smell on hall and bathroom, that's the only bad things
But per general is very good accomodation for the price you paid for
The pub it's so amazing with the kindest people I ever met!
- Christy (7/5): Good - Did not have breakfast the beach was fab a beautiful place
- Linas (7/5): Good - Good location the bathroom needs renovation
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Lovely place staff were lovely ,nice and comfortable Nothing all was v good
- John (5/5): Passable -
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Krishnan (7/5): Good -
- A. (5/5): Passable place, good location - The beds were comfortable, but we did not stay in the room we booked but in a "private staff area" of sorts. Location is brilliant. Really nice cafe with great food and drinks nearby. We booked a triple room with a private bathroom. There was a mix up and initially we got a room with no bathroom. The staff offered us to stay in different section of the building at an extra charge, in two double rooms with an external, private bathroom. Then it turned out there's another guest there as well, but "only if we agree" - as if it was up to us. It was 10pm already so really not the time to argue, but there was no acknowledgement of an issue from the staff.
The place is a bar with music and people shouting until 1am.
Smells a bit of dog, but one of our rooms was OK. The dog is cute.
The "free parking available" is there unless there's too many bar guests.
Overall the place is a bit dated but not too bad.
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional - The beach was really close and we had our own private bathroom. There was no breakfast and we had to wait a few hours because the room was not ready.
- Margaret (4/5): Disappointing - Close to beach Very small room, no kettle, Very noisy.
- Peter (5/5): Passable -
- Leanne (9/5): Superb - Lovely stay.Back again to spend another bank holiday here.Clean basic room but had everything we needed.Great atmosphere in bar. Disappointed is no longer food avaliable as the bar used to have a takeaway which you could eat food in the pub but it has closed. This was real handy as pub doesn't do food and not many other options for food in Portnoo.
- Niall (8/5): Very good -
- Pierce (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (8/5): Clean , efficient accommodation - Clean N/a
- Marion (8/5): Weekend - Fabulous location stayed in room 1 views were amazing 👏
Owners were lovely and staff in bar very friendly 😀 Slight smell of damp in the bedroom. But it is expected in an o Quirky old building 🏚. Your not paying hotel prices so don't expect hotel facilities .suited us perfect entertainment in the bar downstairs 👌
- Catherine (7/5): Good - Fab location, fresh clean rooms No tea or coffee in room and tried to get out of kitchen as advised but it was locked.
- Kellie (5/5): Rather then that the place was lovely and the beds was really comfortable - Staff at bar were friendly The smell of wet dog when we arrived and the dog running about when you left room. The beddding was also not clean some stains on it and the he carpet had toenail clippings on it so wasn’t hoovered. There was no toilet roll in the bathroom
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Anastasia (9/5): Superb - Clean and cozy room in a very beautiful area. Very spacious and affordable also. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and they even helped us with parking our car. The pub downstairs was lovely, there was live music when we arrived and everyone was having a great time. I really felt like I was getting an authentic Irish experience 😊
- Kate (10/5): Great stay a lot of childhood memories - So central Needs breakfast plan
- Claire (7/5): Good - Great value for money. Rooms were basic and small but very clean and beds were very comfortable. Staff were friendly and the pub was good craic.
- Jezi (10/5): Exceptional - All All good
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Megan (1/5): Not worth the money as got no sleep - The pub was nice Partying to all hours
Very loud and not considerate of paying guests
- Micheal (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stephen (1/5): Refund please. - It was clean. No heating upon arrival.
Staff were not expecting me.
No bar as advertised.
No hot water in bathroom shower.
I spent €25 taxi to travel next town while waiting for room to heat up. Upon return, still no heating.
I have requested refund. To date, no response.
- Fred (6/5): Very handy to Narin Beach parkrun! - Small restaurant and take-away adjoin. Tasty fish n' chips. Also two cafes 100m away, down the road towards the beach are handy for breakfast (the pub itself doesn't do breakfast; just rooms. It did exactly what it said on the tin!
- Anaeleigh (10/5): Will definitely be back - Eugene & Mary - we can’t thank you enough. What a night! Nothing
- Prit (10/5): Exceptional -
