Guest Reviews
- Iwona (1/5): Non existent - I can’t say anything about the property as it is closed! Having taken my payment they then informed me the day before my arrival that they were closed. The fact it’s closed but still being listed on booking.com
- mary (1/5): - Didn’t even get to see the property it was closed , awaiting refund
- Camilla (10/5): Welcoming, friendly and homely stay. - The owners were friendly and welcoming with nothing being to much trouble. The food was amazing. The property was clean and well presented with quality fitments. It was a quirky place full of history but, restored to a very high standard.
- Kane (10/5): -
- Lucy (10/5): Brilliant - A beautiful, quirky little B&B, only stayed the one night as we were going to Silverstone the next day. We arrived a little later than anticipated but that was not a problem, we had a warm welcome and still managed to get an evening meal before the kitchen closed. Beautiful food, we both had the fish and chips and they were delicious. The owner showed us up to our room when we were ready. It was very spacious and clean. Comfortable bed/bedding. We had to skip breakfast as we had to be up and out early but I bet the breakfast would have been fantastic too.
I hope we can visit again in the future whether it be for another trip to Silverstone or to explore the surrounding countryside as it looks like there would be lots of different walks around the area.
- Jack (9/5): - Lovely location, clean and tidy rooms, Kind and helpful staff and good pub below serving quality ale and food. A no hassle no stress stay, thank you royal Oak. Jack.
- Jennifer (10/5): Super food, comfy beds, welcoming hosts. Thoroughly recommend! - Great location for country walks
- andrew (9/5): - Great full English breakfast
- Alice (6/5): Mixed! - Booked all 3 rooms for 3 couples, all rooms are linked which was nice so we could all wonder to each others rooms which was handy. The breakfast, when it came, was lovely - had tons of food. We all had a full english which came with all the usual bits plus black pudding and hash browns. The rooms had been done up nicely, we were in the one with the bath which was really nice. It was close to the wedding venue we were going to so that useful. The pub doesnt open on a Monday and I had no idea (I hadnt checked but when I asked about check in time I was told they were there all day, so assumed that meant it was open). We were hoping to go down for a drink when we got there - which was the whole idea of booking in a pub. The bed is made of metal and whenever you move it was so loud and there were 2 radiators either side of our room which have very powerful lights on so it wasnt a very good nights sleep. We all had breakfast together and had agreed on 9am with the people from the pub, we got down and the man was on the phone for ages so after standing like lemons at the bar for 5 minutes we sat at a table. He came over and asked for drinks (3 teas and 2 coffees) and we got 2 teas and 3 coffees and he took our order - we all ordered the same thing to avoid confusion. It didnt come out until after 10am. We obviously all finished our hot drinks ages before the food came out so the man bought water saying 'breakfast is thirsty work' and we didnt want to ask for anything more because it may delay the breakfast. We did ask for some juice once the food came out. The breakfast saga was really quite comical but frustrating at the same time as 2 couples had long drives to do.
In total we paid over £400 for 3 rooms and 6 breakfasts and I definately do not think it was worth that. It was just frustrating as it was me who booked for a group of 6 and it was quite expensive, we wanted somewhere to go for a drink, have a good nights sleep and a good breakfast - it just didnt quite deliver.
- Louise (10/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): Gorgeous, homely, with great service and fabulous food. - The accommodation was gorgeous and homely - everything was perfect for our trip. If I had any thoughts it could have done with a tv in the room and a slightly bigger shower head but these are very minor and did not detract from a fabulous visit. The food and service in the pub was exceptional and we would recommend both very highly, There was nothing to dislike.
- Emma (9/5): -
- MARK (8/5): A wonderful country pub - Super friendly staff (owners), great food and lovely room. The only criticism is that the room didn’t have a TV
- James (9/5): -
- william (9/5): A hidden gem - A great old fashioned country inn . Lively bar, good food and beer and staff.Accomadation comfortable and spacious and clean. If we're in that area again wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Nothing!!
- david (9/5): Great location for local wedding - Nice room and location Wanted breakfast but not available couldn't find staff . But not a deal breaker
- Amy (7/5): - It was nicely decorated with own entrance separate from the pub. The manager was friendly as well. The shower was nice and hot The heating was hard to turn on so it was a bit cold in the bathroom. Seemed quite expensive for the room, the shower was nicely designed but with quite a small, basic shower head
- Jenny (9/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Unexpected - Well and sympathetically remodelled. Food was fresh cooked and more than plentiful. Rooms were comfortable and warm. Bathrooms exceptional. Food was not served quickly but this was because it was cooked fresh on receipt of order. This was a plus for us as they were able to deal easily with my vegetarian son with the lemon allergy. Mega plus points for this. Nothing but the age of the building precludes the possibility of a lift and stairs re narrow so beware if you have a mobility problem.
- Pascal (10/5): -
- Angie (9/5): A real gem that I look forward to visiting again soon! - Absolute gem of a pub. I stayed for two nights and could happily stay longer. They have put a lot of thought making it a welcoming place to visit, the bedrooms are beautifully furnished, with good quality bedding.
Really friendly staff who work really hard to make your visit great. Nothing for me. Slight wait for food but it’s a lovely place to be and the food was worth the wait. Nice to see a pub being busy on a week night
- M L (9/5): - The building is very old and traditional and the locals ( including the dogs) and guests enjoyed the bar and tasty food on Friday evening. Our room was very comfy, clean, spacious and unique. It’s worth having ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise and want an early night otherwise a lovely place to stay.
- Dee (8/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Ideal stopover at an ideal price. - We stayed in a family room which was 2 bedrooms and large bathroom. Ideal for 3 adults. Breakfast was from 9 am. We would have had breakfast if it was earlier.
- Julia (9/5): Relaxing - Beautiful spacious room and delicious breakfast
- Barrie (9/5): A lovely village pub with great rooms and excellent breakfast. - A quirky property with beautifully decorated rooms. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. There were a few cobwebs in our room which could easily be removed to make this a 10 out of 10.
- Mukesh (5/5): Convenient but not suitable for older couple. - Location as it was close to wedding venue Stairs were narrow. We are an older couple and struggled to go upstairs. Bathroom was clean but bedroom had cobwebs and could do with a good clean.
- Konstantin (9/5): -
- Nicola (9/5): Lovely place in a lovely location - We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. The host Nathan was very friendly and the room that we were allocated was very spacious with a very comfy bed and a very large bathroom with a walk in shower. The room is very well equipped and we would happily stay again. Breakfast was offered but we were leaving early so we did not take up on the offer. The Royal Oak is a very old building so expect creaks and squeaks. This wasn't a problem for us and the character of the building was more important to us.
- Moira (8/5): - Traditional 'pub' atmosphere downstairs with good cask ales and decent food; bedroom upstairs quirky but comfortable with modern bathroom/shower etc.
- michael (8/5): lovley comfortable pub with accomadation - lhe location was great nice quiet little village only 30mins from silverstone so peicefull escape from the noise and mayhem of the race track food was realy nice had fish and chips big portion and reasonable price great hand pulled ale NO TV IN THE ROOMS the owner said they wouldnt look rite in the 17th century period decor
building site in the car park whilst renovating outbuildings i think they will be a great assit when compleated
- Sam (10/5): -
- John (9/5): - Friendly hosts, very helpful and accommodating.
Great bathrooms!
- Margaret (8/5): Good for what we needed. - Good location for wedding. Cute rooms. Quaint pub. Access to rooms early was appreciated. Shower was not hot. No full length mirror in bedroom. Paid extra for breakfast and drinks should have been included in that price but were an additional cost.
- Tracy (10/5): Lovely, clean and very spacious - Everything Nothing
- David (10/5): Friendly staff, good value. - We were at a wedding locally and the location was perfect, we stayed two nights.
We were in the superior double and it was very nice. Nathan was a super host and made us welcome. We had Sunday lunch and breakfast while we were there and the food was excellent. The metal bed frame was very noisy, but the mattress was comfortable.
- julia (10/5): -
- Claire (9/5): Perfect English countryside pub with good food, nice rooms and excellent value - Location fantastic
Lovely couple running the pub nothing too much trouble
Excellent value for money
Will definitely recommend and return same time next year
- Steve (9/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Lovely old pub with rooms,
close to wedding venue - We were granted an early check in as we had a wedding to attend locally that day. Our room was lovely. I wish we had had more time to appreciate it. The deep roll top bath looked amazing in a separate en-suite. The shower was hot with ample toiletries.
We had breakfast the next morning in the old historic rooms downstairs, which was very tasty and plentiful.
We had an issue with the taxi that we had reserved and so the kind land lady offered to take us to the venue.
I would highly recommend this b&b and would return if in the area. Every thing was good except we were not aware that hot drinks at breakfast were an extra charge, ! This didn't spoil our visit as the landlords were lovely and friendly
- Dan (10/5): If you don’t stay here, brill! It means theres more availability for me to book haha - Wow I have no other words than why would you not stay here over anywhere else. Like most places, the photos tend to reflect the property from new and it’s never maintained. !Not here, in fact the photos don’t do the venue justice at all. And just you wait till breakfast, absolutely perfect. In fact better than perfect. Well done!!
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Louise (9/5): Superb - Nice restoration. Beautiful bathrooms.
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrizia (9/5): Nice and neat and good for me for a night along my trip. - It is a very nice and clean place .
I found a very welcoming room.
- Donna (10/5): Perfect! - Perfect location for wedding we were attending.
Hosts very friendly and helpful.
Fab breakfast! N/A
- David (10/5): A perfect overnight stay - The room and the pub - 17th century - was a little gem! Lovely spacious room with great shower and friendly welcome from landlord Nathan and the locals! Great breakfast too! Nothing
- Sarah (10/5): Welcomed in by a lovely young man who was running the bar by himself- made us feel extremely welcome and sorted our dinn - Located 30 minutes from Silverstone- quiet village pub, family room was comfortable and clean Nothing- all great
- Lynn (10/5): Like stepping back in time - It was excellent, traditional and personal. The Royal Oak is an historic inn and has all the quirks of the C17th intact; stone floors, wood panelling, winding wooden staircases etc. Lovely village location with plenty of parking. The staff and owners are friendly and helpful and there is a relaxed feel to the place.
We had a most enjoyable one-night stay en route to Silverstone. Would definitely stay there again. Nothing comes to mind. Liked it all.
- Capecam (10/5): Pub Hospitality Done Properly !! - Following a recent major renovation, the rooms at the pub are finished to a very high standard and are spotlesssly clean. They retain the original charm of this period property. Thoughtful touches like quality sustain toiletries , tea and coffee making and jugs of drinking water.
The rooms do not have televisions if that is important to you, and whilst the wifi reception is acceptable for basic communication it is slow and not suitable when there are mulitple people online - For us this was an asset, as we wanted a "get away from it all" break.
Ultimately good hospitality stems from the hosts, and Nathan and Gemma were excellent, attentive, and cared about all their customers wellbeing. One night 1 they noticed our windows were open , and immediately offered and supplied a fan. Just one example of their attention to detail.
The breakfast ( not included in room rate) was great value and a veritable feast - So much so we skipped lunch.
We are already planning another trip to The Royal Oak
We ate in the restaurant one night, and this is reviewed seperately - (Spoiler alert....It was excellent) Absence of a garden - although an outdoor area is planned.
- Cherie (10/5): Friendly, homely and lovely food - Clean & comfortable
- Paul (8/5): Really enjoyable - Great room, lots of attention to detail, food was great, overall a lovely stay Location was a bit remote, great if you like that. Outside the Pub for a few miles wifi was really poor.
- Gabrielle (10/5): A lovely family run pub, the owners couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area - Amazing room, lovely and spacious. The owners were so lovely and friendly and made our stay wonderful! Nothing to add here
- Pippa (7/5): The couple were trying very hard but just a few things to work on. - The young couple were very welcoming and breakfast was great, but the winter tog duvet was a bit much in June . We cooked each night and the 2nd night the other guests in the second room, came in at midnight. Totally drunk yelling and falling over woke us up, and continued to be very disruptive for over an hour. I know this was not the hosts fault but i like they need to be aware. No disabled parking
- John (8/5): Wonderful accommodation, good food and friendly staff.good luck for th future - Great location, friendly staff and locals. Well appointed room and facilities. This will sound a tad picky but remember this is a working local pub and restaurant, so don’t expect it to be too quiet.
- Hagen (8/5): Very good -
- Ben (10/5): Wedding stay - Easy to find and love the old school pub inn vibes mixed with modern decor. The staff were fantastic and accommodating at every turn and were so polite and friendly. 100% recommend if you are in Eydon!
The bed was extremely comfortable and the duvet set was so cosy. Nothing!
- Derek (10/5): Lovely location, pub was great and staff excellent - N/A Everything was great
- Yousif (10/5): A small, cosy, place in a lovely little town :) - It was honestly such a lovely place run by an even lovelier family that were so accommodating and so so kind! No complaints whatsoever about our stay, the only problem was we didn’t stay longer! We will definitely be back :)
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Donald (10/5): Excellent - Friendly welcome and amazing food
- Stephen (9/5): Lovely Friendly Pub - Lovely comfortable room, great bathroom. The food was really good and the owners were very friendly. There was an issue with the hot water which the owners thought was resolved but it didn't come back on until the morning. This was the only negative we could report.
- Gary (9/5): Superb - Nice room, great owners, exceptional breakfast.
- Mandy (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (10/5): Gemma and Nathan are wonderful hosts - Quaint old pub, beautifully furnished. Fantastic breakfast and very comfy bed.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - What a beautiful pub in a quiet village. Convenient stop on way back to London. A very lucky last minute find. Nathan and Gemma were delightful hosts. Lovely comfortable room, newly renovated. Delicious dinner followed by a walk around the church and village. We'd love to have stayed longer.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb - Very clean, comfortable and quiet No tv in tooms
- Annalise (10/5): Absolutely excellent! Would highly recommend this place! - The owners were absolutely lovely and so welcoming and accommodating when we arrived, making our stay relaxing and very pleasant. The room was so beautiful and we had two bathrooms in our bedroom and every aspect of the room was unique and gorgeous - it was very clean and warm as well with radiators easily adjustable to suit you. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to nibble and drink as well. Breakfast was delicious and great value for money. The actual pub was really lovely and full of life and the village it was in was absolutely exquisite and so quaint with gorgeous houses and churches all around and lovely nature! 10/10 experience all round. Thank you so much! :) Nothing - everything was great.
- Rhea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenny (10/5): Don't hesitate to book here! You won't be disappointed. - Fabulous dog friendly pub in a beautiful village. Quirky olde worlde building with stunning bedrooms, home cooked food and a fabulous breakfast. So many little extras in the rooms such as bath salts, herbal teas and top quality toiletries. Owners are incredibly friendly....they made us feel like we were guests in their home as opposed to running a business. Nothing
- Robert (10/5): We’re made to feel very welcome for our 2 night stay. Lovely dinner on Friday night and an amazing breakfast in the morn - Proper village pub serving great food with lovely rooms.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ron (9/5): Great. Much appreciated. - Location just right for us because we were walking the MacMillan way.
Evening meal and breakfast both excellent.
- Norah (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely pub great bedroom and excellent food
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juliet (8/5): Very good -
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - I had a fantastic stay at The Royal Oak. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making sure everything was perfect throughout my stay.
The room was absolutely lovely, spacious and beautifully designed to complement the rustic charm of the pub. It was a large double room with plenty of space to relax, featuring a well-thought-out layout with a stylish bathroom that included a bath and a separate shower and toilet room, along with a handy getting-ready area. Everything was clean, comfortable, and had a high-quality finish while keeping the traditional character of the building.
The pub itself was cosy and inviting, with a great atmosphere. The drinks selection was excellent, making it the perfect spot to unwind in the evening.
Overall, a wonderful experience, I’d highly recommend The Royal Oak to anyone looking for a charming and comfortable stay in a lovely setting. No TV in the room, but can't think of anything else!
- Belinda (10/5): Excellent. - Lovely people and a beautiful location.
- Charlotte (10/5): The Royal Oak is stunning, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed and pillows and the most amazin - Everything! No tv

- Toni (8/5): Very good -
- Alexandra (10/5): Really lovely place, would recommend - Loved the oldie worldie feel to it, we ate in the pub and it was lovely The bed was a little on the small side and the water could’ve been hotter in the shower.
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - Room was lovely. Had dinner, was locally produced food, great quality & delicious
- Alexis (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous Nothing
- Jess (10/5): Gemma was lovely, friendly & very welcoming. The room was beautiful, spacious & clean! 10/10! - We arrived late so it was dark and we had already eaten. We also had to be up early so didn’t eat breakfast either therefore cannot rate the food or the neighbourhood
- Parry (7/5): Good - Friendly, welcoming and fun. Good steak. The music was left on in the pub all night. Terrible nights sleep as a result. Shower was cold on Wednesday evening, but it was warm again on Thursday morning.
- Lisa (10/5): A fantastic country pub in a quiet village location. Great food and dog friendly throughout! - The deluxe double room was large and beautifully decorated. It had a lovely seating area for a drink and had two bathing areas. One with a sink, loo and shower. The other separate area had a gorgeous roll top bath.
Pub and room were dog friendly and our dog was made to feel very welcome. Nothing.
- Craig (9/5): Superb -

- Candace (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adele (9/5): Outstanding accommodation, our room was a wow!! Beautiful bedroom, separate shower room and gorgeou. - The location was in a lovely setting Nothing
- Tjg (10/5): The finest overnight stay in a country pub I could imagine. - The rooms were luxurious and interestingly furnished. It was very clean. The staff were exceptionally welcoming even though we arrived outside normal opening hours. The food was delicious with simple but fresh and local ingredients. Very well kept ale too. The ambience was just what you want from an inn. Really nothing
- Patrick (10/5): lovely, accomdation, staff, and pub in a beautiful - the room was very well finished, comfortable and clean

- Mary (8/5): Comfortable stay and very helpful owner - Comfortable room. A booklet with local information would be a good idea
- Janine (10/5): Beautiful room! - The room was absolutely perfect for myself and my two children with connecting rooms. The rooms were warm and comfortable, decorated beautifully. Our hosts were very accommodating, I wish we'd arrived earlier to eat in the pub, but the light breakfast we had the next day was great. I'd recommend staying here without hesitation, and will definitely return again. Nothing to dislike!
- Tom (10/5): Had a great time. Very highly recommended - A great pub. Beautiful old building that's been sensitively renovated. The room was huge with good facilities. The home cooked food is excellent and changes seasonally. Good selection of beers and wines. Was a little bit cold - but we did visit in November!
