- Becky (10/5): Beautiful house in a fantastic location with an extremely personable host. Highly recommended. -
- KONSTANTINA (1/5): Be careful with this property!!! nice location - The Blue Door is a shared house with private bedroom and bathroom. The location of the apatrment was great. It is located in Camden town, close to the metro and bus station (5 min walking distance to the stations). The neighborhood was safe and quiet. I travelled to London with my mother. The owner (she lives in the house) one day before our arrival, she sent us a message with a long list of rules, informed us that we have to pay 35 pounds for check in (we arrived at 20:00 and she allowed check in only between 15:00- 16:00) and 120 euros for cash deposit. In general, these rules became a nightmare as no matter what we did, the owner scolded us like we were little kids. We were constantly worried that we would do something wrong and the deposit would not be returned to us. At night it was not always quiet in the apartment because the owner was watching tv loudly. Also, one night she was knocking the main door and calling us after midnight because she forgot to take her keys. I also have to mention that there is a double long narrow staircase to reach the bedroom. Something that made our stay particularly difficult was the bedbug bites. From the first few days we were bothered with pimples and we spoted the insects in our bed. We informed the owner and she sprayed the room, cleaned and changed sheets. In reality, she left some new dry sheets in the bathroom for us, because she told that she didn't have time to do it by her own. I don't want to blame her for the bedbugs incident, as in a house where a lot of travelers come in and out this kind of thing can happen. However, I have to report it for the safety of the next guests. I think that with so much carpet and furniture in the house, it is hard to clean and disinfect properly.
- Oliwia (1/5): Bed Bugs, Hostile Owner & Unsafe Experience - During our stay, my friend and I discovered BED BUGS in the room, which made the experience not only deeply uncomfortable but also a genuine health and safety concern. After informing the host, we were FORCED to leave the property at 3 AM, with no assistance or alternative offered. As two young women in our early twenties, being put out into the street in the middle of the night was frightening and entirely inappropriate.
While the listing seemed appealing, it turned out to be misleading in several key ways. Although it advertises a “private bathroom,” this is shared with the host, who lives in the same flat — something that is not made clear upfront. There is also no lock on the bedroom door, so there’s no way to secure your belongings. On one occasion, the host entered our room without permission while we were out, replaced the bedding (which we had removed ourselves due to a small water spill) and moved our personal belongings — including sealed grocery bags with food we planned to take back home — leaving some of it outside the door. This felt invasive and disrespectful.
That said, we had done our research. We were fully aware of the deposit requirement and house rules through earlier reviews, and we even messaged the host in advance to confirm check-in details. We had booked this stay more than six months in advance and made EVERY EFFORT to be respectful, tidy, and thoughtful guests.
When we found the bed bugs late at night, we immediately moved ourselves and our packed luggage into the common hallway and contacted Booking.com for help. By 3 AM, we had no choice but to leave and book a new place on our own. Despite all of this, we have not been refunded for all unused nights, including the night we were forced to leave. We are still in contact with Booking.com and have submitted photo evidence, medical documentation, and receipts, but the host has ignored all follow-up communication — including messages from Booking’s support.
- Mitchell (9/5): Superb -
- Filip (8/5): you’re staying in someone’s home - respect that, treat the place well, and you’ll have a great stay - great location, authentic experience limited usage of kitchen
- Аnna (8/5): Very good - Very nice and comfy pace located just 2 minutes walk from KOKO.
- Matteo (10/5): Great - Lovely house and lovely host. Round the corner from all the major Camden spots like venues, shops and market.
Lidia was very friendly and lovely, we traveled with our dog and they hit it off instantly.
The house is beautiful and some of the handmade decorations by Lidia are nothing short of a work of art.
Would defo come back and recommend for a trip to Camden and central London!
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Megan (1/5): Horrendous, awful host and just down right rude - Great location but that’s where the praise ends. The house was an absolute mess, we had to climb over things just to get through the front room. The host was awful, to put it plainly. Rude, lying, taking drugs on the property. The house stunk of marijuana. The accused us of damage and refused to give us the deposit back. I am currently trying to get a full refund the stay was that bad. Avoid at all cost.
- Ricardo (9/5): Superb - We had a wonderful stay in this lovely room located on the upper floors of a carefully decorated family house in Camden. The location is fantastic—quiet yet conveniently close to everything we needed. You can clearly see the care and effort the owner has put into making the space a special place. She was very nice to us and even accommodated our late arrival for a small extra charge, which we truly appreciated. Overall, it was a very good experience. While we had a lovely stay overall, there are a few things to keep in mind. The house has a number of rules that guests need to adhere to, which may not suit everyone. Extra care is required to avoid damaging the property, especially in the bathroom, which contains some fragile items. The owner is also in the process of improving the house, so access to the kitchen is currently limited. This wasn’t an issue for us, as we ate out during our stay.
The only small drawback we noticed was the bed—the mattress wasn’t the most comfortable, though it was fine for a short stay. Despite these minor points, we still had a pleasant experience and appreciated the effort the owner put into making the space welcoming.
- Onneile (8/5): No complaints from me - Great transport links, clean & warm in this cold weather
- Duru (5/5): Depending on your preferences, this is a good stay. - It is very clean, and clearly a loved home. There are many rules but I would also have many guidelines about keeping a clean place and avoiding damage. If you are the kind of person that doesn’t like that, it would be difficult for you. It is very central, very accessible. It is also very warm, which I rarely expect in the UK, this was a nice surprise. The host allowed us to leave at 4 am and handed us our deposit back, which was nice. Although she only waived the 25£ extra charge because she was also flying out early. It did feel like she would be rather inflexible beyond 30 minute extensions normally. Do check the check in/out times more precisely and do not take for granted being accommodated. Upon arrival, without allowing us a few minutes to take our coats and shoes off, or even put our backpack down, the host asked for the deposit. There really was urgency to it. It gave a tense tone to the stay, for us at least.
The host had two different male guests at different evenings, and since our bedroom did not have a lock, we felt uncomfortable as 2 girls. We don’t know if the people stayed the night (I believe the second one did), and we could not know if they were life long friends or a first date. I had many previous experiences with private hosts from platforms like airbnb in similar price range. If in the rare occasion the host entertains guests, there is the curtesy pre-communication about it beyond “Hello, this is my friend”, which I can only say “Hello” back and move on up the bedroom. I really do not think this is typical. I may be wrong, but my feeling was it would raise tension to bring it up, especially when the person is already there, so we just lived with it.
- Lee (8/5): A room in the hosts beautiful home - An absolutely beautiful property very well cared for by the host Lidia. The nicest home I have stayed in out of many in Camden and it's in a very convenient location in a short walking distance from the tube and Camden town. Comfortable bed and lovely furnishings. It was nice and warm at night but had windows you are able to open if air was needed in the day. Lidia was a lovely host to me as I respected her amazing home. As you are staying in the guest room of the hosts home, it I felt too imposing to use the kitchen facilities but as I was only intending to sleep there due to a busy schedule this wasn't really a problem. Wasn't anywhere to sit to take shoes on and off at the front door and didn't want to upset the host putting shoes on the rug.
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location and amazing host. The house itself is eclectically decorated, a piece of art in itself. There are adjustable lights, a fridge you can use, and a big bathtub.
The location is just north of Euston so there was various regional trains, and the entire city at your fingertips. It's walking distance from Camden markets for good food and fun trinkets.
Lidia, the host, is a sweetheart and happy to help answer any questions. 11/10! You should be wary that there's a big narrow staircase, but it's not really an issue.
- Ziheng (7/5): Good - N/A N/A
- Vasileios (8/5): Very good -
- Estelle (7/5): Worth the price - The location, near Camden Market and the Camden Station. The shops and the park nearby were a plus. Very quiet area. Too hot in the bedroom. The pillows were not comfortable and the bed was too hard.
The bedroom was on the 3rd floor which can an inconvenience if you have heavy luggages.
- Giacomo (3/5): Read all the reviews of the host before booking; they are not exaggerations. - The location is really good and the bathroom big. The atmosphere of tension that the host created, the extremely dirty shelves in the room, the inability to use the wardrobes or kitchen. Truly, the host is obsessive about the house and communicates in a passive-aggressive way. We should have read all the other reviews about the host. We saw the high rating and didn't read them, and that was a mistake.
- Yasmine (1/5): Chaotic, Disturbing, AND everything was so wrong!! - NOTHING GOOD AT ALL.
PLEASE READ THE "BAD REWIEW"!! WARNING ALERT, WARNING ALERT!!!
Don't book ANYTHING at The Blue Door!
PLEASE READ !!ALL!! THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING THIS "ROOM"
She was both drunk and high and made us move before we even moved in.
THERE IS NO PRIVAT BATHROOM!! The info on booking.com is not right and fair.
We called the policie , and they are going to check her up.
We have films and pictures for proof and evidens about this crazy experience!
She does not give any receipt for the deposit and if you thinking of give her money, DONT!!
When we wanted to leave she refuses the give deposit back. We did get it back after 1,5 hour argue.
We have been contacting booking.com and the police here in Sweden also in London.
She said that we where late for check in but we wasn't!!
We texted her about our late arrival and she said OK. Otherwise she would leave the key on the pub if we where late but that wasn't even right!
So what we meet in the house was an arogant and an angry lady that just talked to us like we where babies.
Because of the "late" she could not show us the bathroom so if we wanted to shower we had to wait until the next day.
We was also walking wrong, Had our backback on us wrong becuase of the fear of scratches to the wall
(I have my own house and i know have to respect others spaces), have no lock on the bedroom.
It did not stand anywhere on booking.com that i needed to be available 24/7 to make the owner happy!
THIS LADY IS EXTREMELY RUDE AND HAVE BIG BIG ISSUES!!
And dont forget she came back after two hours high and disturbing.
Looking forward to a loooooong answer from the owner because I know exactly what she is going to answer.
DONT FALL FOR HER LIES!
And if anyone have any questions please write to me.
Me and my bestfriend have enough of evidens for showing you who disturbing she was.
Shame on booking.com that allows her to even have the right to rent out.
So please. If she writes me back dont Fall for any of her lies.
- Brian (9/5): Excellent stay with brilliant location near food, entertainment and trainstations. - The location is amazing, walking distance from two stations, tons of restaurants and the famous Camden Yards. Nice house with a comfortable bedroom and very nice bathroom.
- Roger (5/5): Not again - Convenient to tube and zoo. Room was on 3rd floor up a very narrow winding staircase. Wife had extreme difficulty due to recent knee injury and no elevator. Booking.com had no mention of this. Had to leave shoes in entry as to not stain carpet and was told to put backpack in front to avoid wall damage. Have no idea how anyone with suitcases could even navigate these skinny stairs.
Bar at end of block provided an endless stream of loud drunks into late at night. Not the best mattresses and my wife commented that she would need a ladder to get into the tub/shower. Kitchen sink was broken and missing so owner had to use our bathroom sink to do her dishes.
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb - Home stay, Lidia put a lot of love in the decorations, former room of her kid Particular instructions need to be followed not to break anything (renovated old building with a lot of quirky specialties).
- Antonio (7/5): Private house with bathroom shared with the owner in the heart of Camden but without mass noise. - The location is perfect, in Camden itself but away from the noise of the crowd.
The subway stop nearby.
It is not a hotel or a hostel, it is a house of a person who rents a room.
The bathroom is not private as it is shared with the person who lives there, I already knew that so nothing wrong here. In the two days I stayed there I never met the owner in the bathroom.
The owner sent me a set of rules for being in the house, at the beginning it can be a lot of things but I didn't have a problem with anything, they are basic things. Take off your shoes when you enter, how to open the door, care in the bathroom, ..... In fact, no bad thing or any condition that I did not already know. A person who is correct in his dealings.
- Lauren (4/5): Disappointing - The bed was comfortable enough, the house was quiet, and the host allowed an early check-in. I wish I had read the reviews more carefully prior to booking. There were a number of rules to follow and the host would chide you if you ran afoul of any of them which made the stay feel very uncomfortable. Rather than enjoying my holiday, I existed in fear of accidentally ruining something or coming across the host to be told that something I was doing was wrong. The bathroom space was also much more shared than I anticipated it to be.
- Scott (10/5): Beautiful home in the beating heart of Camden - Host was welcoming and chatty and the place was very nice, was a cool little setup and the building had so much character. Beautiful home. The rules were simple enough to follow and mostly common sense, we had no issues at all during our stay. Location was very good for us being minutes away from venues in Camden. There wasn't anything that we didn't like, it was a very pleasant stay.
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfy room, and welcome host.
- Johannes (10/5): Nice, warm and friendly - Cozy room right in Camden, a minute from the subway station and still not too loud, almost quiet for London. Beautiful house, great location, friendly landlady.
We were there in January and everything was very well heated, something we had experienced differently in the UK
- Blanca (8/5): Clean, warm and comfortable. Quiet except for the cars occasionally passing by in the street. - Very clean bedroom and bathroom. We were provided warm linen and towels. Very nice and warm shower, with good strong water pressure. Even if the bedroom is located in the apartment inhabited by the host, we barely saw her during our stay, so we enjoyed a lot of privacy.
While the accommodation description can be a bit misleading, you do share the bathroom with the host. Since we had understood we would have a private bathroom, she was very kind and did not use it during our stay (or at least while we were home), so in the end it was like having a private bathroom. Although the street the windows face to is very quiet, you can hear any noise of cars occasionally passing by. One morning I was awoken by what I believe was the garbage truck around 7am. Within the apartment you can also hear the noise from other rooms, although in general the host is very quiet (she did have the radio on one night when we were about to go to sleep, but she put it off when we told her we could hear from the bedroom, so we did not have any trouble sleeping).
There are some house rules, quite easy to follow really and most of them you would probably follow anyway. However you may find it a bit inconvenient to need to take this extra care when you are on holidays and just wanting to enjoy yourself, but this is of course the difference between staying at a hotel or at someone’s home, so it is part of the deal.
- Jan (9/5): Great location for Camdenl town - Great location
Helpful owner
Respectful of privacy Nothing not to like
- Richard (10/5): Lovely stay in Camden at our home away from home- - We stayed with Lida for the month of October and had the best time ever. We did arrive late due to immigration but kept her informed and had no issue with our late arrival.
The home was lovely with lots of personal touches to it. Yes, there are house rules and Lidia communicated them to us up front and they never got in the way of our stay - in fact it was like living in our own home. Lidia was there for everything that we required but didn’t interfere with our day to day travels.
In regard to the bathroom - it’s wonderful, well kept with plenty of towels. There are some personal effects in the bathroom but nothing you can’t put aside to put a months with of toiletries there.
Lidia’s hospitality during our month stay was similar to that of a best friend always sharing a glass of Prosecco and cooking for us - that was the best chicken and pasta.
In short we’ve already booked a return stay and can’t wait to see our new found friend Lidia again.
- Marjorie (6/5): Pleasant - If you're looking for a reasonable deal in Camden Town, at a very convenient location, near everything you need, but in a much quieter street than the main one, this is the place. The house is clean and cozy. I allow myself to edit this comment that I wanted diplomatic and discreet in regards of some events that happened during my stay, I did'nt want to make a public scene, but apparently the owner does that in a very harsh and unprofessional way if the reviews are not perfect. Most of all, I can't let calomnious statements without speaking for myself.
The keys were lost in the house, probably after the incident of locking the owner out. I felt extremely sorry and guilty of this lock incident. I've been so comfuse and anxious to do well with the many rules that I tried and copy her behavior with the locks. Then I went to bed with ear plugs, thinking the owner where in her bed too. When I woke up realizing my mistake, I ran to the door to open to her, then she said "You stupid girl !" (I'm a 34 yrs old lady, that was a bit weird and added to the shock of the incident). As for the keys, the house is very "lose your stuff"-friendly: on my departure day the owner lost her phone and asked me to find it for her, puting a lot of pressure in her tone. The way she spoke to me felt like I was her teenage daughter once more. I agree with the reviews saying she does not have a professional way to talk to her clients (just read how she replies to reviews she doesn't like, you will understand the lack of diplomacy ), and watches our every move to obsessly tell us to be careful. And careful I've been, so saying I scraped my small bag along her wall is a lie. I did have the deposit at my arrival, so that is another lie (I didn't have the payment in cash indeed because I've never paid a stay in cash in my life, and that was a surprise since on Booking we can read the paiement will be with our card.) The most shocking lie being that I would have smoked pot in her house. I don't understand this calomny, I've never smoked in my life, this is extremely disturbing to read that.
- Weiyi (10/5): Exceptional - Very beautiful and you can feell that the owner of the house loves life and the decoration of the house is very beautiful.
- Sharpe (9/5): Superb -
- Sohel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Svetlana (10/5): Exceptional - Great geographical location, in Camden Town area. Lots of cafes, restaurants around, but in a calm street, close to the market. The house is very cozy and beautiful. The host gave good advices.
- Tanya (10/5): Exceptional - The house is so interesting, very clean and nice. The bathroom is a piece of art. The house is on a quiet street, but the main street is on a short 2 minutes walk. We booked it for 2 nights and loved our stay there. We will definitely come back again.
- Cristian (10/5): Exceptional - The house if so beautiful. Lidia likes it clean and it makes sense. She designed everything. All the furniture is from certain parts of the world and she does not want it to be destroyed, chipped or harmed. If you can respect that, you'll have an amazing stay and feel very good every time you come home.
It's in Camden, which means we were close to EVERYTHING. Best location and at such a reasonable price.
The bed is super comfy and the room is well ventilated. Loved loved loved. Slept so well. There was some miscommunication as we arrived and we ended up getting late to the premise. Our fault as we got the wrong address the first time. Lidia wasn't home as she was expecting us to arrive between the promised hours.
We would have liked to be notified that if we will be late we will pay an extra fee and also have to wait for 2 hours for her to come and open us. Was not the most pleasant way to come to London.
Our fault for being late, but did not know there would be repercussions. Maybe they were written somewhere? If so, still would have liked to be warned by the owner. Maybe future clients will benefit from this 🌻
- Caithlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Agata (9/5): Friendly and welcoming house stay in a great location - Our host was very friendly and welcoming. She wasn’t in our way and was very kind to our doggie. The room and the bathroom were clean and comfortable. She provided clean towels and allowed access to the garden. Location was great, with lots of restaurants and pubs, close to Camden Town and Regent’s Park. None. It is a listed building so there are some house rules but very straightforward.
- Michael (10/5): Perfectly homely, and central for all London needs - It was very central very to Camden Market and surrounding tube station, host was very welcoming and very kind very easy to get on with. Expectations were not exceedingly over the top as other reviews may have discussed just basic respect and understanding for the houses heritage and keeping it well kept The stairs were steep but that is a personal issue and we fully acknowledge that that is how the house was originally built . As explained rules were not outrageous and very fair
- Danai (3/5): Felt like an intruder, walking on eggshells. - Great location. The issues are numerous, mainly caused by the host. Her behaviour was beyond passive aggressive and unacceptable. Besides the racist comments and anti-immigrant sentiment, the level of micro-managing and pedantry created a hostile environment.
The pedantic monitoring and extensive listing of rules you are expected to abide by are not inherent to the historical character of the house;
the underlined fragility of the house (e.g. leather rug, mosaic floor, cacti, etc.) are irrelevant to the historical character of the house, but more cosmetic choices which you are expected to respect religiously.
The lack of professionalism extended to checking in and checking out according to her schedule, having guests over without letting us know, doing laundry while we wanted to shower, texting us at 3 in the morning. She constantly reminded us that it is not a hotel, yet, some level of hospitality is expected as a paying customer.
Overall, the unprofessional and hostile attitude did not make up for the great location of the house.
- Noah (3/5): A challenging homestay, but we’ll located - Reading the hosts responses to reviews is strongly advisable!!!
The location is convenient, it is close to shops, eateries, transport and parks.
The wifi in the homestay is consistent and the room is a good size. Towels and bedding were provided. The road traffic is not particularly busy.
Communication with the host before the stay was timely. The host was accommodating when I was going to be five minutes late for checkin, although she had to leave so wasn’t in. The same cannot he said about checkin which was still within the hour allocated. The guest spaces and the house in general are incompatible with a straightforward, practical or comfortable stay.
One set of keys are provided, if there are two of you you’ll need to synchronise.
The host is very house proud, and it is clear much effort has been invested in the decor, however, the fragility or delicacy of the decor requires extreme vigilance.
An extensive list of rules are provided prior to check-in, these are further explained upon arrival. As home-stays come some rules are standard. In this instance some rules are certainly not standard, and many are painstakingly particular. The large amount of rules are inordinate with the majority being related to design choices rather than the houses’ periodic history.
The tone of the verbal and written communication by the host frequently lacks professionalism. The implementation of rules and their elaboration are often accusatory and lacking in courtesy.
The bedroom is cluttered with un-dusted personal and familial effects, and there is no privacy lock on the door. Decorative items needlessly add extra rules (cactus, chest of drawers) and are better suited to a museum.
The bathroom is also cluttered, the mosaic floor is artistic but not practical for hygiene. The towel railings have rules, but weren’t available as they were being used for host laundry. Privacy is limited.
Getting luggage to the room is complicated because of the rules, anything larger than a cabin bag would risk contact with the walls and paint.
The kitchen access usage is not coherent. We thankfully didn’t need to cook, only food prep (sandwiches, wraps..). The fridge has an available shelf available however, food hygiene in the rest of the fridge is poor. We used the kitchen to roll our wraps (no cooking, cutting or warming up food). We first did this on the turned OFF hob, and were directed to a work surface - which was fine and reasonable.
- Floris (7/5): Good - The central position is very confortable: bus stop, underground and other many services suck as bar, supermarkets, poste office, banks, etc. are very close to this house.
The bedroom is very confortable and the bed too big! I can't pay with my credit card, but only by cash
- C (10/5): Cozy Flat with Character and the Best Location - The host was really friendly and sweet. She is very motherly in that she tried to tend to our needs to the best of her abilities and helped where she could. The flat was really cozy and uniquely designed. The bathroom was my favorite part. The design was unlike anything I've seen before. The flat gives off a very artsy vibe. I have no complaints. I stayed with my boyfriend and we loved it.
- Chung (10/5): Exceptional - Location is near Camden Town, a fantastic and amazing tourist attraction. The host is funny, talkative and very kind to us. Nothing.
- Adam (10/5): Affordable stay in a lovely home - The entire stay was a pleasure. A lot of love, care and time have gone into making the space beautiful. I have no complaints
- Christine (8/5): For a stay in Camden The Blue Door is a good place to stay. - The location was perfect for getting around - close to the tube station and very close to the high street with great access to good places to eat and drink. It is within in walking distance of Euston Station, if you don't mind a 20 minute walk dragging a suitcase behind you. The landlady is well versed in the arts scene so can give lots of tips of exhibitions and concerts to go to. The Blue Door is a proper homestay with a live in landlady who has a fun collection of 'stuff'. If you're looking for boring and sterile surroundings best go somewhere else. And don't knock the plaster! I am no fan of steep staircases. They're not steeper than normal for that period of house.
- Amato (5/5): Passable - The location Is great and the bathroom really big. I Lydia's manners about all the rules that we have to follow weren't nice. It was really unconfortable the way she explained everything. Maybe she had bad guests in the past but, we are polite and careful with everything, and she judged us before knowing us.
- Miles (6/5): Not for someone who likes the simplicity of hotels - just a quick walk away from Mornington Crescent tube. You need to be aware you are definitely staying in someone’s home, in what feels like a son’s bedroom with his Lego and medals. Lidia is obviously very house proud and there are lots of house rules if you’re going to stay here. She would not show me the room before I handed over cash for the room and would not give a receipt.
- Traoloch (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vitor (8/5): Good, but can change some things. - The place was very clean and easy to find, the bathroom is very big and clean. Some house rules are taken very severely, making the stay tense even uncomfortable. The room offers a drawer to put your clothes, but maybe a bigger closet instead of the drawer would be better.
- Rob (10/5): Exceptional - Lidia was very personable and accommodating
- Gabor (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The host, Lidia, the house, the room, the facilities and the location.
- Anchit (7/5): Good -
- Diego (10/5): Everything it’s good. - The location it’s very good, Lidia it’s very friendly for us, the room it’s very comfortable and the bed it’s very good, the bathrooms was very clean and nice. 100% recommended. nothing, everything was good.
- Ignacio (7/5): Good - The area is nice and the room has enough space I didn't feel that the place was professionally managed. The owner insisted in being paid in cash and refused to give a receipt. The room and toilet is full with personal items that didn't make you feel like you are in your place. All this would be OK if the final price matched this amateur facilities.
