Guest Reviews
- LynneB (10/5): A beautiful, quiet village setting for a comfortable stay in a luxurious, spacious cottage. - Clean, spacious accommodation with large, comfortable bed and super-equipped kitchen with milk, butter, cereals, tea/coffees selection provided, plus extra towels for our stay. Mark was very welcoming, kind and helpful throughout.
- Marlies (10/5): - A wonderful, quiet, comfortable, well equiped and spacious little cottage. The little deck outside was perfect for breakfast in the sun. The host and his wife were very fiendly and provided us with complimentary basics for breakfast and made us feel right at home. It was definitely one of the highlights during our stay in the UK.
- Cusdin (10/5): -
- Fiona (9/5): Lovely place, lots of room, good facilities, quiet location, full of character. -
- Richard (10/5): Gem of Glastonbury - The property is so well equipped , has everything you could need , the interior is very thoughtfully laid out spacious and very comfortable, the host Mark is very friendly very welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area .
A must book in the Glastonbury area !
We took two children with us 8 + 10 and get had two very comfortable chair beds in the lounge N/A
- Anonymous (10/5): Far above anything else in this market - Self catering but the generous supply of provisions provided was superior to anything encountered in 60 years of self catering throughout England and Wales. This includes annual visits to Somerton for several decades to visit family and
we usually stay in Lynch House B&B in town for two nights. Could not enjoy the superb breakfast there for longer and we
are very pleased that we were able to secure The Forge for four nights At our age and my medical issues the steps from the bedroom to the bathroom were a problem but we managed and will visit again if we can
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb - The atmosphere and the comfort. The owner was nice and welcoming. The location is peaceful and very close to many point of attractions. The cottage offers many facilities which we did not expect such as a towel drier or a slow cooker for instance. There was an issue with hot water as the supply was not sufficient and had to take a cold shower. Not a great experience: it put me off. Apparently the hot water is not sufficient in the morning due to the high demand in the area at that time. Hot running water should be a basic nowadays and I hope the owner can sort this out. I guess in winter could be a real trouble.
- Lucy (10/5): I would recommend this property! Excellent! - This is an exceptional cottage which has been renovated to a very high standard. It was very clean, beautifully decorated and everything you need for a holiday! The sat nav took me right to within 50m of the property although I couldn’t see a sign with the name of the property! (probably my poor eye sight!!)
- Matthew (10/5): A fantastic, hidden little gem! - In a very beautiful and peaceful part of the country, what’s not to like about this fantastic little gem? A comfortable and spacious guest house which the time and effort put into making it such is very apparent throughout. From the characterful interior to the very cosy beds, It’s immaculately clean and perfectly equipped with everything you could need for your stay. The friendly hosts are very hospitable and generous, with mark greeting on arrival and insuring you have everything you need, even leaving complimentary little goodies as well. You are made to feel exceptionally welcome from the start and this made our stay all the more pleasurable and relaxed.
The property itself is surrounded by beautiful walks in the Countryside right from the front door, and is in close proximity to a fantastic local pub/restaurant and a short way from the beautiful street and Clark’s village.
The Old Forge was a wonderful find for us, one which we will be sure to return to in the near future. Many thanks to Mark and his lovely wife for having us. There is nothing to not like about the Old Forge unless you’re looking for a city break.
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful stay in every way! - Wonderful location, very comfortable and clean, great facilities, and very friendly and helpful hosts. A fantastic stay all round!! Thank you! No negatives!
- Jacqueline (10/5): A truly beautiful place to relax in Somerset, highly recommend - A beautiful property in an amazing location
- Lake (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - Great location great people definitely say again
- Huw (10/5): Hope to be back again soon - Great location, easy parking and a short walk to where we needed to go. The fire helps keep the place warm and cosy and the bed is very comfortable. Great facilities
- Huw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jill (10/5): Lovely property in an extremely quiet location - The facilities were great. Due to the property being an old forge the exposed brickwork inside meant it was rather dusty which triggered my dust allergy.
- Carole (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation was spacious and really comfortable especially the super king-size bed.. Mark is a fabulous host and the provision of everything we needed for breakfast plus a bottle of prosecco was a great bonus. Highly recommended with everything you could need and more. As an older couple who often need the loo in the middle of the night having the bathroom at the opposite end of the accommodation from the bedroom was a bit inconvenient but it didn't spoil our stay and we'd return anytime we were back in the area.
- Andrew (10/5): The old village forge delightfully transformed into the perfect holiday cottage. - Staying here was a remarkable experience. What a winning blend of old rustic charm and every modern convenience in a roomy, spotless, tasteful and immensely comfortable environment. Congratulations, Mark! You have spared no effort in making this the perfect getaway and being the attentive and personable host. Absolutely nothing! Everything was perfect - no exaggeration.
- Laura (10/5): We will be back! - Everything we needed was there and more. Great extras such as eggs, fruit & bread. So thoughtful and helpful! Nothing.
- Stephanie (10/5): Mark was an excellent host. Place was lovely a clean, was quiet and just a really nice property over all. Mark greeted u - Lovely little place had everything you needed, loved the log burner. N/a
- Chris (10/5): Amazing and thankyou again Mark - The property is beautiful and loved the little extras that Mark supplied…..even lighting the fire for us whilst we were out.
Don’t be deceived by the pictures as it’s much larger than it looks.
Thanks Mark we will be stopping again If we were to be really picky the place could do with a proper clean as there were areas that had been missed i.e behind the sofa and mirrors. It didn’t really bother us but could be an issue for anyone else staying.
- Heather (10/5): Lovely cottage in a great location - Lovely quiet location with plenty of things to do in the area. We couldn't find a tea pot which would have been nice.
- Karena (7/5): Good -
- Maria (10/5): Wonderful host - amazing property everything we needed. - Very clean and so cosy Nothing.
- Joti (10/5): Amazing property very close to Clarks Village Outlet - *Lovely cottage with quality furnishings
*Thoughtful and generous host
*Cosy and quiet
*Excellent value
*Bigger than suggested by photos
- Debra (10/5): One of the best places we have stayed in, in recent years. - The accommodation was quite jaw droppingly good. The Old Forge was steeped in character but combined this with a modern look coupled with good quality furnishings and fittings. Mark was an excellent host. I can honestly say that I have no negative issues. A slightly bigger fridge perhaps for guests who will want to stay for longer which we certainly will next time as it is so good.
- Suzanne (10/5): Fabulous couldn't have been better - Fabulous host,
great property
and the location was super quiet and peaceful It was very hot during our stay and the bedroom was very warm. The host had provided a fan which did help. We couldn't open the vellum windows in case bugs came in
- Josephine (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely friendly welcome from the host. Lovely spacious property. Felt like a little mini home from home. Bed was so so comfy. Had a great night sleep. Mark provided provisions for breakfast which was most welcome.
We didn't get a chance to drink the complementary pressecco but we will next time!
Great property for a longer stay as it was so well fitted out. Can't think of anything
- Nishant (9/5): Great little place to stay in Somerton! - The place was very comfortable and exactly as advertised. Plenty of space and very well stocked up! Not much to say here haha
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - An exceptional place to stay. The Old Forge is a charming property set in a beautiful and quiet location, just a short drive from Street and Somerton.
What makes this place exceptional is the attention to detail with the facilities available and extensive welcome pack/ goodies provided.
An immaculately clean and comfortable property. Mark is a very welcoming host. Nothing.
- Darren (10/5): Really exceptional place and experience. Highly recommended! - Mark & Zoe were very friendly and welcomed us so warmly. The space was so beautiful, spacious, tidy and cool and unique. They also had some nice food in the fridge, bread and some delicious teas which were welcomed after a long day of driving. Incredible place!
- Karen (10/5): Stunningly beautiful property, a must stay!! - From the moment we arrived it was stunning. From the friendly greet to the fresh fruit, bread, milk and Prosecco. The property brickwork was stunning along with the story of the old forge and the before photograph. The attention to detail is extremely good. Very clean and everything you could ever ask for. We had an amazing stay and the super king size bed gave us the best 2 nights sleep. Thank you for an amazing stay Nothing, stunning inside and out
