Guest Reviews
- Janet (8/5): Great. Very comfortable. - Breakfast was great. Staff friendly. Locations good. Although don’t expect a working village as there is only the pub.
- Carys (10/5): Gorgeous country pub stay for a wedding! - Gorgeous country pub, great room and the owners/staff were so lovely. Breakfast selection was really good, as was the pub’s food menu generally (very good for allergens too). Nothing - all was great!
- Laura (7/5): - Comfortable room and a good place to break the journey up to Scotland. The room was over the bar, so there some noise until after last orders.
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Wood (10/5): - Beer garden and room was lovely Cereals and toast would be a nice option for breakfast
- SHENMARLIN (9/5): Great place to stay, nice and clean and comfortable - Friendly staff, nice room with great facilities, great food
- Adrian (9/5): Great location for overnight stop on journey from Highlands back to Wiltshire. - Location for stopover.
Excellent dinner and breakfast freshly cooked. Nothing.
- Michael (9/5): great - great place to stay there were no gripes
- Brian (8/5): -
- Ellie (1/5): Got no sleep unfortunately - Very noisy, the pub was making noise until about 1am, then people came up to the room and were also noisy.
Room not big enough for family if 4, the pull out bed was too small for 2 children.
- Paul G (9/5): - Welcoming staff. Very comfortable room. Spacious bathroom
- Derek (7/5): -
- Alastair (9/5): Excellent stop over going north or south - Clean comfortable great staff great food
- Patrick (10/5): 😁👍 - Second time I've stayed, great all-round & I would highly recommend the New Crown Inn. The food portions a bit big for me.😂
- Brian (7/5): -
- Gillian (10/5): Lovely inn in a beautiful village with clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms, thoughtful toiletries, and ve - The inn was absolutely lovely. It’s located in a beautiful village with so much charm and character. The rooms were spotless, very comfortable, and beautifully decorated. I especially appreciated the thoughtful toiletries provided, and the bed was extremely comfortable which made for a great night’s sleep. The food and drinks were exceptional and really added to the overall experience. What really made the stay special was the staff — everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it. The only small downside was that I could hear some noise from the bar downstairs, although this is to be expected in an inn with a lively atmosphere. My dad stayed in another room and didn’t hear anything at all, so I think it was just the location of my room and it being a Saturday night.
- Patrick (10/5): Great Place.😁 - Great place to stay & I will definitely stay here next time I'm in the area. Having to leave.
- Jody (8/5): Very good. - Breakfast was good although portions on the large size for us.
Owners very helpful and friendly Would have liked to have had cereal/fruit and yoghurt choice at breakfast.
- Mandy (10/5): Ideal overnight stay after a long weekend at Center parcs - Breakfast was great and cooked to order at a time chosen by us, our room was on the front so road side, we chose to open the window as we like a colder room to sleep so noise from morning movement was probably louder but didn’t stop us sleeping well As it was only an over night stop, we couldn’t find anything to fault this location, we didn’t have an evening meal but looked good
- Roger (9/5): - Very comfortable, recently refurbished rooms. Food was excellent and plentiful (I cycled there, so was hungry). Team at this family run inn were welcoming. No complaints.
- Alastair (10/5): Great place, will be back many more times - Great place this. Lovely quiet rooms at the back, super pub menu with separate dining area, parking out front, really friendly staff. Absolutely nothing not to like about this place, all located in an exquisite village a couple of miles off the A66 Nothing
- Mike (9/5): - Lovely food, good drinks selection and friendly welcoming host's. I will definitely stay again if I'm in the area
- David (10/5): - Clean comfortable and lovely staff Storm damage to the aerial meant the tv didn't work fully, although for us this was not an issue, and not much people can when it is storm damage.
- Kamilla (9/5): Luxury tucked away in Cumbria - Staff were super friendly, bed linen excellent quality and breakfast was exceptional! This is honestly likely personal preference but the mattress was so soft and we are too larger people so ended up with one of us on the floor.
- jade (9/5): - Great venue and lovely little bar. Rooms were really clean
- Andrew (6/5): - Nice and pleasant parking was poor room was small and I had to ask for more milk and tea instead of the room being serviced each day it was left and I ran out of tea and milk which I had to get myself food we really good but one night it took over 50 mins for the food to arrive when asked where my food was I was told that they had 50 covers in the beer garden dogs need to be better controlled and not as noisy Tiny room had too ask twice for more tea and milk and then I had to get it myself room was never serviced tiny bed
- Angela (10/5): Cosy stay great value - Friendly welcome, shown to my room, secure modern room. Great location for a stopover going North from the South
- Stuart (10/5): A must visit if in the area - Lovely location Excellent accommodation Great food Friendly staff Nothing
- Chris (8/5): -
- Matthew (9/5): -
- Jeremy (7/5): We enjoyed our stay in spite of a few minor niggles. - Pleasant dining area. Good, cooked breakfast. Good coffee. Lovely pub atmosphere on arrival. Good location. Good choice of evening meals and drinks.
Plenty of hot water. Good shower. There were no obvious cereals or toast and preserves. We had to wait about half an hour for our cooked breakfast to arrive.
The sink plug in the room was faulty and the mirror light did not work.
- David (8/5): Superb staff nothing too much trouble. - Clean and traditional countryside pub excellent staff and good food.
- Sam (9/5): -
- gordon (10/5): - Lovely friendly staff very helpful Nothing
- Oli (9/5): -
- Sam (9/5): - Staff were really nice and friendly Shower could be better
- Joanne (8/5): - Good location, good food and staff were brilliant. The TV wouldn't change onto it or channel 4 or 5
.other than that it was a lovely place to stay.
- Amanda (8/5): really convenient location, very pretty surrounds, and super smart facilities, evening food v good. - the room was to a pretty high standard for a country pub style, all clean and tidy, with spotless shower room, and good amount of space for a single too. just be aware that as in the case when I stayed there was a private party in the bar, a fair amount of customers in high spirits were very audible throughout, so not really possible to get an early night, once the pub was closed it was super quiet. not a complaint just something to be mindful of. The cooked breakfast was really really swimming in fat/oil, I also found the breakfast menu a bit limited, if a vegetarian, would have been very restrictive., such a shame as the evening food had been good. If someone had asked me I would have complained but I didnt see anyone once my food had been left at my table.
- Ally (10/5): Lovely friendly local inn - Lovely lively pub. Excellent food and comfortable rooms.
- Panagiotis (10/5): -
- Eugen (10/5): -
- KM (10/5): Will definitely be back - Great location. The village is beautiful and really easy to get to.
Beds were huge and the rooms were quiet.
Food was amazing and the staff and locals are very friendly.
- Linzi (10/5): -
- Phil (10/5): - Great hosts and lovely room. Food was excellent aswell Nothing
- Mark (9/5): Brilliant food and stay in a traditional pub in the Eden Valley - Breakfast and dinner were great. Staff are so friendly. Room was very comfy. Brilliant location for anglers right near the rivers Eden and Lyvennet.
- katy (9/5): Can’t really fault it. - Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Lovely atmosphere in the bar/restaurant and good food. It was a bit chilly.
- Peter (9/5): New Crown Inn shows how important a pub is to a village community, enjoyed my stay . - Good quality products in bathrooms
Food was excellent Rooms above bar area - some noise .
- Paul (6/5): Could have been a great stay except for the tv and cold room - Clean, nice room, great staff, great pub Tv didn’t work in the room
Staff were attentive but no tv,
Room was cold no heating on
- Janet (9/5): -
- Nicola (8/5): Lovely clean and comfy room -
- Alix (9/5): - Comfortable, clean and peaceful nights sleep Nothing
- Angela (9/5): Stunning location, beautiful rooms and delicious food, friendly and inviting staff - Beautiful and quiet location. Staff super friendly and attentive. Absolutely delicious food ( breakfast and evening meal ). Beautiful and very clean rooms. Nice bar evening atmosphere. Nothing really. It was rather cold in the room and after messing with the radiators for a little bit I gave up but heard the staff mentioning at breakfast to some other guests who said they had been cold that the thermostat must have been turned down in the hallway by other guests so know for next time
- Janet (8/5): Nice stay will return - The hotel was clean and the room was a good size as was the shower.
The food in the pub was excellent. You you hear noise from the bar but this stopped at a reasonable time.
- SUSAN (8/5): -
- Mike (8/5): Pros and Cons. - Nicely presented with attractive doors and facilities As a type 2 diabetic sweetener in the room would be welcomed - and there are lots of us.
An anti slip bath mat for optional use in the shower . This as I found the floor very smooth and slippery with soapy residue - almost tumbled.
- celia (8/5): -
- Melanie (8/5): - Nice room I thought it was in Appleby itself but it's actually 5 miles away.
- Craig (9/5): - Lovely bedroom & evening meal was great.
- YasminAli18 (8/5): Great value for money! - Great stay, incredible staff, really lovely room that'svery well cleaned! Great value for price, will stay again. Just that the tv was tiny and also didn't work.
- Kim (10/5): We was made very welcome would go there again - Very cosy staff was lovely N/A
- James (8/5): - Its location Bedroom was on the small side
- Andy (10/5): An amazing hidden gem with amazing food, staff and facilities. - The property is clean, tidy and really well kept. The room itself was really nice. It was spotless!! The food was amazing and so were the staff!! Nothing.. I’m going to stay again!!
- John (8/5): Very relaxing and good nights sleep, minor issues not really a problem. - Breakfast bacon roll coffe and juice was excellent considering the excellent rate charged for the room.
The staff and locals nice and friendly and made me feal relaxed. Bedroom door would not lock from outside but i did not try to hard as i knew my belongings would be safe in the room, a plug that stayed shut on the wash hand basin would be better for water usage. No channels available on TV.
- Mark (9/5): I stayed at the Inn for a local family occasion and look forward to the opportunity of staying here again. - Cosy and comfortable with great food and friendly staff. The Inn is also the hub of village life and popular with the locals so you also get a warm, friendly atmosphere. You can eat and drink in the cosy bar sitting in the corner by the fire. Or if you want a quieter or more formal meal such as a family occasion have a table in the restaurant area.
The food was very good with generous portions, especially the full English breakfast! The bedroom was very comfortable with a piping hot en-suite shower. The property is obviously an inn and popular with locals. So if you were an early to bed type you would expect to hear some laughter and chatter from the bar downstairs. But nothing that disturbed me. If anything it added to the warm, friendly atmosphere of the property!
- Rd (10/5): Well worth the money the food was lovely would very friendly staff - Food was excellent staff was very friendly and so was the old boys at the bar🤣 shower was good The bed wasn’t great.
tv Ariel wasn’t working due to a storm so that couldn’t be helped
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Donnahunter (10/5): Perfect stop off travelling between England & scotland - Great friendly pub, clean & comfy bed, hot shower, great food. It’s a popular pub so expect some chatter until 11, didn’t bother us.
- Tim (8/5): Very good value for money. Clean, comfortable and quiet. Pub has a good menu and food is excellent - Excellent food. Room clean and well presented. Quiet surroundings The room was bit chilly.
- PAUL (8/5): An ideal stop over and staff were very helpful. Rooms clean and tidy. Would recommend - Staff very helpful and a true independent pub/restaurant with accommodation. Food was excellent.
- Rob (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Lovely place to stay. Rooms refurbished and very clean. Good Breakfast. Good access to The Pennine Way.
- Paige (10/5): Perfect! Would recommend to anyone :) -
- Adrian (9/5): -
- Tatjana (10/5): -
- Armstrong (8/5): -
- Viv (10/5): A Great Place to Stay - I have stayed here twice now. It's a lovely country pub in a peaceful village location but within easy reach of Appleby/A6/A66/Lakes. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Again, my evening meal was very tasty and plentiful along with the breakfast. My room was clean and comfortable and has everything that you would expect (in a room). Overall, it is great value for money and I will stay again!
- Darren (8/5): The room was perfect for my needs, the bed, despite being a single was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious an - Very modern, clean and comfortable The noise downstairs in the pub was a little loud but it was to be expected on a Friday night.
- Carly (10/5): The most welcoming, friendly place! - I cannot fault the staff! I have never been somewhere so welcoming and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us in anyway they could! I also was out at a wedding and called back to get some taxi recommendations and straight away they were suggesting and helping, even when we were out!
We stayed for food on the Friday night and it was so tasty and amazing! The value for money from this place is incredible! N/A
- Heather (8/5): Handy Stopover on route - comfortable room, lovely meal in the restaurant, and nice breakfast, friendly staff
- Robert (8/5): We would go back! - Great Location. Thomas, the owner is very friendly, with many years experence. Can have a conversation on any subject. Very willing to help. Room said to have to have a "street view", but was overlooking the back yard. Didn't worry us,
- Beverly (10/5): - Very comfy largish room, soft carpet, nicely decorated. Very clean and nice ensuite. Tea, coffee n biscuits all well supplied. Dining facilities on site wonderful and great beer. Staff were exceptional. Parking close by on street or out front. Quiet village. Hotel was out of Appleby a bit further than expected, but that was our fault for not reading area properly. However, the area was lovely and quiet.
- Patricia (9/5): - Beautifly decorated and good food
- Jessica (9/5): Kind staff good breakfast . Good price - Bed very comfortable and nice staff room a tad small but nature of property

- Craig (8/5): Charming pub with fantastically decorated rooms - Located within a few miles at extremely competitive price Single bed although comfortable was a bit small
- Jason (9/5): Great stay for nieces wedding - Staff really friendly and helpful, breakfast good and food in the restaurant really enjoyed. Thomas was a great host, giving us numbers for a hairdresser and taxi, which we used on our stay and actually drove us to the wedding venue when our taxi broke down. Plus messaged us to say that the taxi would pick us up later, using another vehicle.
