- peter (8/5): Overall good - Breskfast was very good Bed was a bit short
- Sally (8/5): -
- Gill (8/5): -
- Deeya (8/5): Great place to get away, such wonderful staff. - The staff were so hospitable, we arrived late, past the kitchen open hours, and had food with us, the staff were kind enough to warm this in the kitchen for us (microwave was broken).
The rooms were comfortable, clean and perfect for a night or 2. Loved the location, perfect country, middle of nowhere stay. WiFi didn't really work in the rooms at all.
Breakfast was rather salty.
TV remote and info pack was missing in 1 room.
Rooms were a little cold in the late night, only 1 of the 3 rooms we booked had a heater.
- Bujar (10/5): - The room was big and clean! Wifi, wifi didn't work!
- Karen (6/5): -
- Martyn74 (6/5): - Staff friendly & nice bar area Room 4 All of which was reported to the staff, sadly unable to rectify at the time of stay.
Gesture of good will by way of dinner was offered.
Accommodation needs a deep clean sadly the more you look the more you find...thankfully the bathroom was ok all be it the toilet seat wasn't secure along with empty soap bottle in shower.
Do not be tempted to look under the bed!!!
Mattress on bed was shot springs showing through as mentioned in other reviews!
No guest information in the room.
WiFi in room was switched off when pub closed.
No remote control in room when asked for a Samsung remote i was given an LG which needless to say didn't work.
Breakfast doesn't start until 9am, should have read the reviews!
Carpet & curtains worn and a bit tatty I'm places, dirty window sil, radiator and top of wardrobe dusty / cobwebs.
Picture in room said it all sadly.
Could have been so much better with some care & attention.

- Gill (5/5): Wouldnât go again - Parking was easy The restaurant was closed and we werenât told before we went
The drapes on the bed were old and grubby
On the landing the window was absolutely disgusting with flies spiders awful
Stains on the toilet seat
- Heather (9/5): A very comfy stay with nice and friendly staff - Ideal location whilst out and about on a through walking weekend. The room was comfy and had all the facilities you needed. With a good selection of bar meals to choose from for a evening meal. Nothing
- Ivan (10/5): -
- Jack (8/5): -
- Denise (9/5): A lovely peaceful and friendly place to stay in a charming village. - Lovely old building, nice position in the centre of the village.
Nice proximity to the Bluebell Railway.
Front of House made us feel special, looked after us very well, food and service was lovely. Couldnât fault any aspect of our stay.
Definitely will consider staying one day again. Nothing
- DBVD (6/5): - Convenient location near the south of England showground. Very characterful property, friendly welcome.
Bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom! Shower was great Double room was on a slant, which made it difficult to sleep, I don't think the room had been used for a while, as the kettle had dust on it, the cups were dirty, and the teaspoons were stuck together. We weren't in a position to ask for these things to be corrected.
- walder (8/5): -
- Dominic (6/5): - Service was fantastic
- Michael (10/5): Ideal after long hot day at S of England Showground. Will be our first choice when we return - Great food on fish Friday. Beautiful location. Good ale and wine. Service friendly and relaxed but efficient
- Esther (6/5): A quick stay whilst travelling through, watch out for the bed in room four - Lovely welcome and great food, nice towels and linen. The village is cute. The bed sloped with the room, at a pretty acute angle so sleep was not good. The shower wasnât very good either and hot water unreliable.
- Zyllah (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely building, great staff, good food, great location. Would recommend Shower was a bit cooler than we like but it's an old building!!
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - Lovely characterfull period pub with accommodation. Very good restaurant with excellent food, very friendly and extremely helpful staff.
The room was fine except for poor WiFi that I was unable to connect to.
Although reasonable Wi-Fi down in the restaurant.
The hot water system was a little slow, in heating up, although as long as you are patient, there is plenty of hot water.
Some lights above the mirror in the bathroom didn't seem to work. However there was adequate lighting.
Overall good, a lovely village location and I was particularly grateful for the very helpful and friendly staff. I would recommend.
Thank you
- Emma (10/5): Amazing customer service and staff - The staff were amazing, very friendly and accommodating, really couldn't ask for better customer service. The bathroom was huge with a lovely big bath and overhead shower and the bed was very comfortable. The location is beautiful with a lovely back patio and plenty of space for parking. My partner is gluten free and the kitchen was very accommodating and the breakfast was delicious although a more varied gf dinner menu would be amazing. Breakfast isn't served until 9 which was fine for us as we didn't need to be anywhere super early but if we had an early start this would have been an issue.
- Ben (9/5): Lovely staff, awesome food at the restaurant. Wish I could have stayed longer. - Comfy and cosy
- Helena (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were all so lovely and welcoming. It felt like nothing would be too much trouble. Very accommodating with breakfast timings.
Food was absolutely exceptional. Amazing quality ingredients and prepared to perfection. Some big ol cobwebs in the room around the windows/curtains
- Robin (9/5): Welcoming and comfortable. - Jules and staff were very welcoming. Nice, friendly pub.
Stayed 2 nights - very comfortable. Bit cold for breakfast before log fires lit.
- Mark (9/5): Comfortable, quiet and friendly place to stay - Friendly, cosy place to stay. Good sized room and bathroom. Quiet location.
Convenient for our stay as we were attending a wedding 2 miles away.
Tea / coffee making facilities in the room.
Excellent full English breakfast, tea in a tea pot! Oil heater in the room as normally heating apparently not functioning. However this heating was adequate.
Unable to close window vent as shut off flap missing.
No cereal or jams offered for breakfast. (Didnât ask for though)
- Milanie (6/5): Staff were very pleasant - The heating was not working when we arrived in the property, the room was cold, we were provided portable heater not warm enough thatâs our only issue
- Ashley (6/5): Pleasant - The staff were excellent and the food/drink in the pub was very good. The rooms advertised on booking.com were not evident in the hotel. Advertised are spacioys rooms with 4 poster beds, our room was a small, cramped double bed room with limited space, the bathroom was larger than the bedroom! The room was also cold due to only having a small electrical radiator for heating.
- Kelly (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (1/5): No communication no food /no hot water /no heating - Location No heating no hot water no food
- Dean (9/5): Superb - All
Of it
- Clare (7/5): Good -
- Tiffany (8/5): Lovely Stay we will be back - Lovely friendly staff, fantastic breakfast great location for the Spartan at pippingford, would 100% recommend the Crown in just a few little extra touches here and there needed. A very safe and comfortable night had. There really wasn't anything to not like perhaps maybe give the picture of the lions a clean in the bar area by the 2 seater table, maybe have extra toilet roll in the bathroom, and also replace all the handles back onto the cupboards and draws in the bedroom.
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location for what I needed to visit The Green Man & St Giles Church..
4 poster bed ! Lovely room & exceptional staff. Appreciated the personal attention & thanks for arranging taxi back to Gatwick airport.
Room also had a kettle w coffee & tea. Chef made my breakfast to order each morning.
TV in room. 0..everything perfect for exceptional visit.
- Neil (8/5): We would stay here again - Very friendly staff and owner. Full English saw us through to dinner!!
- Mark (8/5): Enjoyable with a great breakfast - Staff were superb and the best breakfast we have had. Location was great and fantastic view over the cricket pitch.
Very clean and comfortable. The was comfortable but could have been a king size !
Few places to put stuff down such as a small desk - but minor issue.
- Derek (10/5): Excellent 10/10 - Village location, good food & lovely staff. WiFi poor reception in room- falling in & out
- Andrew (10/5): Great spot - Good parking & great room and food
- Caroline (9/5): Very comfortable stay in this hotel. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. - Excellent restaurant, good choice of dishes, including catering for vegetarian. Breakfast was great, and it seemed we could ask for anything, but it would have been helpful to have seen a menu.
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (6/5): Passable - Good location for our purposes Carpet was worn and tired
Meals were stodgy English fare
Bed was just ok but needs renewing
- Russell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (4/5): Needs the POLIZZI touch - Quaint village location close to where weâre were working for 2 days Stair case leading to rooms dirty/ clutter on landing/ apparently only one room key and therefor room was not cleaned/ kitchen door left open had to squeeze past to get to the bar / cups in room too small for coffee pods and therefor over flowed/ room relatively clean as was the bath - would question marks in the toilet/ breakfast not available as we had an early start definitely not value for money @ÂŁ210 for 2 nights - wonât recommend or return
- Carolyn (6/5): Pretty pub and location. Ok for a nights stop. - The Crown is a lovely old building in a beautiful location overlooking the cricket pitch to the rear and the green to the front. The staff were friendly and helpful. I felt reasonably comfortable staying there on my own. The food and drink were generally good. Towels and toiletries were nice and it was nice to have bottled water and a coffee machine available. Bed linen was crisp and comfortable The bedroom areas away from the main pub felt a little neglected. The entrance hallway to the rooms was really quite unclean with cleaning buckets and mops in the corners and I didnât enjoy having to negotiate the gap by the wedged open kitchen door to get to the rooms.
And generally just a little lacking in attention to detail. I suspect, looking at the cleaning log, that my room hadnât been used for a while, but the information book with the WiFi code etc was missing from the room, the bathroom lightbulb was failing (flashing) and unusable , the coffee pods provided were old and tasted stale & the mattress could do with replacing as it was quite saggy.
- David (7/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay will definitely use again if visiting this area - Location was perfect as we were going to Gravetye manor for William Robinson garden festival we also visited Nymans & Borde hill gardens all within half an hour drive away from accommodation. The Breakfast & Evening meal was excellent & The Staff made you feel very welcome & could not have been more attentive. Could not work coffee maker in room but that was just us not understanding how it worked.
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were really friendly No taxi company local... taxi journey foe 4 miles was ÂŁ25.00 not the crowns fault, that's rural life I guess
- Tessa (7/5): very good - Location good did not have breakfast
- John (10/5): Lovely stay with friendly staff - The hotel was really comfortable and the bed was great, comfortable and lovely linen and pillows. Jules was super friendly and helpful and the meals we had were very good. Our room looked over the green and the cricket pitch, really lovely position. Everything was fine, good parking and nice surroundings. Minor thing...breakfast didn't start until after 9.00 which meant we only had one breakfast as we had appointments and needed to leave the hotel by 9 am. That was excellent though!
- David (10/5): Everything you need - Pleasant location, clean and friendly
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (8/5): Great location, great accommodation, great meals, good beer, helpful staff. - Architecture, location, very helpful staff, great meals. Nothing of consequence
- Gina (10/5): Lovely quiet relaxing stay - Easy to find
Great location to the show ground
Scrumptious supper with very good menu
Very friendly
My breakfast was delicious
Bed was comfy
Room was adequate and clean
Good parking
Lovely and quiet Stand in Bath for shower but nit picking I enjoyed my brief stay
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely setting, great room. Nice breakfast
- Justin (7/5): good country pub, well located, excellent for seeing the Bluebell Railway - breakfast was great.
location great bed could have been a bit larger
- Sheena (6/5): Pleasant - Spacious and clean Bed slopes down as floor slopes down!
- Jeff (8/5): Very good - Very welcom, good food Internet poor.
- Linda (10/5): Relaxing , beautiful surroundings, friendly - Fabulous food , added bonus of a cricket pitch on the doorstep Nothing
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Room clean and comfortable None
- Meriel (9/5): Good country pub overlooking village cricket pitch - Friendly staff, quiet, really excellent breakfast (specially pork and hop sausage) The entrance to the rooms was up some back stairs via a door saying staff only - we couldn't find the way to breakfast
- Marie (10/5): Beautiful property, great location and food was lovely and a good choice. - Beautiful surroundings and really friendly staff Nothing about the property but taxis are very expensive if you are staying here and attending the wedding venue down the road.
- Richard (10/5): A very pleasant stay. Thank you very much to all at The Crown. - Very friendly staff, good food, comfortable bed and convenient location. Would certainly return.
- Hilary (9/5): Superb - Welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent and plentiful breakfast made using local ingredients eg sausages made by local butcher.
Comfy bed and quiet room despite being above the pub.
- Marcus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lesley (5/5): Overpriced for outdated facilities - The carpets need cleaning. The room wasnât serviced after one nightâs stay. There were no biscuits, hardly any toiletries. Needs modernising and a good scrub. Carpet was dirty on stairs. Access blocked with boxes.
- David (8/5): second time iâve stayed at reg crown - lovely location, great breakfast and meals room could have been warmer and internet service/ wifi very poor
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
