Guest Reviews
- Mersiha (7/5): Good -
- Robbie (1/5): Worst rooms I’ve ever seen in my life. I travel allover the county with work and I’ve never seen room as filthy in all m - Absolutely nothing, filthy Cobwebs in the rooms with spiders allover. Mould allover the shower and bath.
- Giovanna (7/5): Perfect area. - Location was perfect for a wedding we were attending. Quite quiet too.
- Susan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Anonymous (1/5): Don’t waste your money, we left about an hour after checking in - Nothing like the photos advertised on the website Room smelt of bleach, dirty stains on the walls, hairs on the bed.
- Rob (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anonymous (3/5): Reminded me of the motels you see in the movies. The ones you can rent by the hour. - The bedding was clean and they did put ample toilet rolls in. The outside is a mess and the rooms were not much better.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Our stay was made good by the staff being so helpful and doing there best to meet our needs. - Our room was clean and very comfy. All good The blind didn’t work but we managed.
- Lesley (5/5): Needed a bed for 2 nights and that’s about what I got! - The room was clean and ok for what I needed, a bed for the night Check in, reception smelt of smoke and receptionist typed £1,095 instead of £109, when I pulled him up he said type it yourself??
- Adam (1/5): Avoid if you value cleanliness or comfort - Stayed here for just 8 hours and honestly, that was more than enough. The place felt very seedy from the moment we arrived. The cleanliness was seriously lacking — the room didn’t feel fresh or hygienic, and some of the areas looked like they hadn’t had a proper clean in quite some time. For the price we paid, we expected at least basic standards, but it was massively overpriced for what was essentially a very uncomfortable and sketchy experience. Definitely wouldn’t recommend, even for a short stay.
- Karen (4/5): Cheap, but not cheerful - It was clean, the bed was comfy, Paula on front desk was amazing. The shower worked Sadly what spoilt this trip the most was the lack of communication between Head Office, ourselves and the hotel. I spent 4 hours sorting out a reasonable price for the dogs to stay, to find out this hadn’t been properly agreed. So after a long drive this was a stress we really didn’t need. There was a lack of towels and a mug, which we did point out but it wasn’t remedied. Cheap for the room, but be careful if you are taking dogs as that fee is extortionate. The room was very hot
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect 👌🏻
- Fran (1/5): Very disappointing - Nothing
It is a very poorly maintained, unwelcoming place The property is grubby, unclean and very poorly maintained.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Anthony (4/5): Disappointing - It was dam very old needs replacing all inside
- Dale (7/5): Good -
- Leonard (3/5): Overpriced 1* - Not a lot, being honest. First appearance as u drive in looks like a scrap yard static caravan and old vehicles left to rot.
Stunk of smoke in the reception building 🤮
The building its self deteriorating with the upper section safety rails/fencing panel some missing and some hanging down held up with some wiring that runs below the lower buildings.
The room.we stayed in had a gap a mouse could limbo underneath
Although the shower was very hot
Mattress was a cheap sprung one
Only one mug for tea or coffee
The bins were all rammed and were the same 2 days after arriving
General maintenance of.the outside the building very poor needs a good sort out grass cutting and general rubbish
I wouldn't recommend a stay here unless your homeless or in desperate need
😫
- Christopher (6/5): Served its purpose. Cheap and cheerful, no frills attached - Room available at short notice just for one night. Convenient. Ease of booking. No frills. For £53 for one night we weren't expecting it to be luxurious. No breakfast available, but we were warned.
- Steve (7/5): Good -
- Jenny (4/5): Hills have eyes/ bates motel vibe - It’s was to a basic level of cleanliness around a 5/10. For me the bed had clean white sheets and the toilet was clean. Where to start…. The place looks good to start with on here and the pictures, it’s very deceiving!!
It gives bates motel vibes, it’s extremely basic and definitely isn’t worth the £50 a night stay. There is constant moving about and banging from other guest, the place has a name for itself locally (knocking shop).
The area it’s placed in, if you didn’t drive you couldn’t get anywhere as when I looked for public transport a guy said the bus is usually only twice a day along here and then your lucky!
The WiFi drops out all the time, however this could be that I was placed right at the end of the block, downstairs and the closest to the duel carriage way at the back and side of the premises with vehicles travelling all minute long very close to you.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Shan (5/5): Passable - Bed was comfy Covered in bites, like flea bites down my legs.
My partner couldn’t believe how hot the rooms are and no air con or fan provided. Literally a sweat box.
Just run down. Really weird vibe to this “hotel”. Said I didn’t check in and got charged a no show fee when we literally stayed at the hotel. Rang and staff come across rude.
- Teejay (7/5): Good value. - Clean cheap room. Good value for money. You could hear the neighbour hotel stayers clearly.
Caravan outside the room??
- Iain (5/5): Passable -
- Richard (10/5): Very pleasant family run hotel. - It's very similar to a US motel, the staff are very polite, it's a family-run hotel, during our stay, the hotel was being fully redecorated with no noise disturbance when at the hotel, there is no eatery on site, but there are plenty of good choices just a short drive away. I will definitely be returning. My only point would be the amount of vehicles coming and going during the night, mainly taxi's waiting for their next call, maybe worth considering a room key accessible barrier at a future date to limit vehicles to staff and guests only.
- Atm (10/5): Exceptional -
- Person (8/5): Exactly as 'stated on the tin' - no complaints at all, in fact, nothing but praise. - This motel was simply superb for the money. The lady that checked me in was really lovely. She gave me a better room with no extra charges. The room was excellent, clean, tidy, with fresh towels and cosmetics. The bed provided was very comfortable and evereything was clean and tidy. I have no complaints at all for less than £50 per night. The location is out of the way, although very close to a busy main road, which was surprisingly loud at times. The motel site itself is excellent, with good parking facilities and surrounded by trees. I really don't have any complaints. It was obvious that the Motel has been undergoing a degree of refurbishment in places. There is clearly a little way to go. But, overall, it was fine. I noted a number of poor reviews online, from my perspective most seemed unwarrented. Yes there is a caravan, ice cream van, and a couple of other vehicles in the car park - so what?!!?? There was stil ample secure parking, and it made no difference to my stay. If you want luxury, go elsewhere. If you want a nice comfortable stay at remarkably competitive prices, then the Hotel Rafiya is perfectly fine.
- Mirshakar (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - For the price, the room was fine. Clean and ready for us arriving It was very basic.
- Nick (1/5): Bad - Nothing Reception on arrival wanted me to pay by bank transfer instead of card to personnel account (dont know if he is owner or not) only 1 plug working , only 1 mug 1 hand towel 1 shower/ bath towel. No mattress protector, bed was too soft, pillows like bricks. Only spent 1 night instead of 2 as its the worse place I've ever been to.
- Alastair (7/5): Good -
- Graham (4/5): Passable for low budget - Fairly convenient, inexpensive The buildings are tatty but it seems some improvements may be being made.
There were no light bulbs in the bedside lamps!! Very annoying that the main light had to be used prior to settling down for the night.
No 13A sockets next to the bed.
Bathroom in need of smartening up. Flooring and around bath screen.
- Husein (5/5): Passable -
- Robert (1/5): Bad -
- Anonymous (1/5): At least I stayed somewhere dry. - I didn't find anything I liked with this location.
Smoking staff when I turned up.
Reception guy on the phone dealing with his car issue whilst booking me in.
Terrible attitude from him and I think a chef or fellow worker there, very intimidating. Summary of Room Condition and Impact on Stay
Upon arrival, I was immediately disappointed and concerned by the overall condition of the room, which was far below any reasonable standard for guest accommodation. The following issues were identified:
Mould on the ceiling as you enter the room
Staining around the base of the bed
Holes in the skirting and walls, with missing vent covers
Light fittings not working
A loose bath tap and no hot water
Flaking paint in the bathroom, with rough, untidy repainting
Screws protruding from makeshift skirting made from laminate flooring offcuts
A towel shelf that was falling off the wall
A mattress with broken springs, making it incredibly uncomfortable to sleep on
The room was not only unsightly and unhygienic but in several cases unsafe, with multiple health and safety risks that should never be present in a room that is being sold to paying guests. I was forced to stay in this room as it was a rebooking due to a last-minute cancellation caused by flooding at another hotel. By the time I arrived, it was too late in the day to arrange alternative accommodation.
The impact on my stay has been significant. I was unable to relax, rest properly, or feel comfortable in the room. Basic expectations—such as cleanliness, safety, and working facilities—were not met. I felt let down and, frankly, appalled that this room was being offered via Booking.com without proper inspection or quality control. It has caused me inconvenience, physical discomfort, and considerable frustration.
I am requesting that this matter be formally investigated and appropriate action taken, including a refund or compensation, as the room provided was not fit for purpose.
- Julia (1/5): Don't go - Nothing terrible place applying for a refund This place was disgusting dirty room dirty bed linen found fleas didn't stay promised refund still trying to get hold of booking.com
Will never use again
- Mwenya (2/5): Very poor - Location was ok for us The reception had a foul smell of cigarettes and the member of staff on reception did not give a welcoming or even pleasant approach, he was quite rude. The whole hotel was unwelcoming and in need of a lot of maintenance and clean up. The room smelt of a foul smell coming from the bathroom. There was no remote for the tv and the shower was cold. I know was a budget hotel but not worth the money. Would have left but we just needed a quick rest for the night so just accepted the situation.

- Julie (1/5): I never want to stay again - Nothing It was unlit, unwelcoming and rundown
- Mitchbbbbb (1/5): Terrible worst place should be shut down by health and safety - Nothing Absolutely filthy lifted pillows to find chewed up bits of wood and rats droppings and yellow piss stains from the rats the staff didn't even batter an eyelid just offered another room 4 rooms we checked and everyone of them either had broken heating broken telly or was dirty avoid this place we only used it for 1 of our drivers to stop.over for the night never seen anything as bad as this

- Scott (3/5): Once Rex had been put back in his box I could check in then be told no foo at this moment in time had to find alterna - It was be very cheap.. No food available near by..
- Mannion (1/5): Feels like a prison cell - The hotel is well located and cheap. Clean toilet and sink. Where to start!! The whole place is beyond tired, it's grotty. Vertical blinds in the window didn't close properly so people going past could see in. Whole room feels like a prison cell. No furnishings or homely touches, aignificanrly dated furniture. Although the toilet and sink were clean, the bath was disgusting. Hair in the plughole, random black marks on it. TV didn't even have all the free channels.
- Zaheen (1/5): Didn’t stay waste of money and journey, the way it was described it wasn’t the same in person - Nothing It was very dirty and unkempt
- Philip (3/5): Poor -
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and Simple.
- Aizel (4/5): Won’t go back - Location, not many travelodge nearer and available More like a motel. Individual rooms you can access from the car park. Looked dodgy. Very basic. Smelled of smoke. Hairs in bath. Smudges of stains on bathroom door. Yuck. Mouldy too. Very cheap mattress. Floor looks like those use to cover an industrial warehouse.
- Smout (1/5): Do not stay here!!!!! - Absolutely nothing The bed wasn't comfy and the actual condition of the place was vile ! We sound piss on the bathroom floor mold everywhere and pubes on the bed and toilet seat the mugs that are left for us to use hadn't been cleaned either it still had tea residue in the bottom it was disctisting !! The photos I've put on aren't even the worst of it I have several videos of more things we found will be gettingmy money back!
- Kaushik (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (1/5): Please avoid, Travelodge is heaven compared to this place. - Liked the receptionist, she was nice Bed was broken, large spiders around the ceiling, walls are very thin including the above room with sudden loud sounds and all night a loud humming noise above, water was pouring all night from above and crashing in front of our room as it was raining.
- U-matt (6/5): It is okay for an urgent stay. but if you have an another option, choose that one - the location was close to where I want to be in the next morning. Hot shower was good, The room and the bathroom was clean. towels were clean. The heater in the room was not working, it might be not working for ages. The outside temperature was 11 celcius so I had to stay in the bed to keep myself warm. I requested a heater but I got nothing from reception. Heat and sound insulation of the windows and the door was very poor.
- Rob (3/5): meh - WiFi wasn't working, Bar/restaurant were closed.
