Guest Reviews
- Jenny (8/5): Superb canal boat stay - Beautiful location and really enjoyable stay - quirky and cute. Bruce was great - answered our questions straightaway and was incredibly helpful. The lock on the canal boat door was a little loose but we didn't have lots of valuables and it was a safe spot so didn't matter too much
- Jack (7/5): - Lovely little hideaway, has everything you need. Toilet door could be replaced, no privacy at all if you are staying with a partner.
- Michael (7/5): -
- Rhian (3/5): Peaceful stay, very basic - Location was fabulous and owner very helpful The canal boat was quite grubby. The toilet handle was broken. The shower mixer tap didn't work - it was either very hot or cold. There was no tea or coffee. There was no name on the boat for us to identify it - we just tried the key box. The solar lights outside didn't work. A deep clean and lick of paint would have helped. My partner is 6'2 and couldn't stand up, couldn't sit on the toilet nor fit in the shower. Perhaps a height restriction should be mentioned.
- Holly (1/5): Not the cozy experience that we expected - N/A No water, pipes frozen
No chemical in the porta toilet
Floor moved and rotting
Carpet very worn
No sheet on bed one left but didn’t fit
Logs left but didn’t fit in the fire and nothing left to chop them up
Tv didn’t work
Windows didn’t stay shut
Not a nice cozy experience like expected.
- Nicola (8/5): - Was in a great location so peaceful and away from our busy life but only a quick trip to the lovely town of Skipton . The host Bruce was readily available to help when needed. Wasn't anything to dislike really. Only improvement would be to improve the water availability. However host left us water and it definitely didn't spoil our trip. And was informed prior.
- Maskell (10/5): -
- Fiona (9/5): Definately cosy and relaxing - Something out of the ordinary. Very quiet and peaceful. Bring everything you need....no shop to pop to !! A bit tricky to find...best not arrive after dark !
- Martyn (8/5): Very good -
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional - We got a little lost (due to my terrible sense of direction) but Bruce the boat owner was only a phone call away and was so helpful. Easy enough to find and parking is available nearby, about a 5 minute walk away to the boat.
This was a surprise trip for my partner's birthday. Some balloons were kindly left inside the boat for when we arrived which was such a nice and thoughtful touch.
Location is lovely, very peaceful and relaxing. The boat had everything we needed and although space is limited as expected, it still felt very roomy and comfortable. We woke up to a swan with her cygnets at
the window which was very cute!
Couldn't have asked for more, definitely recommend and would love to stay again. Nothing to fault! Thank you for a lovely stay 😊
- Zoe (10/5): I had a lovely time away on the boat waking up to geese n goslings n seeing swans was amazing. Few steps away over small - The location was great. The instructions to get everything working were easy to understand. Basic but worth the money to stay on a boat. Need bit tlc
- Laithascotty (7/5): Beautiful peaceful location by the river - Location absolutely beautiful and peaceful, my first time staying in a narrow boat and I loved the surroundings although there were other boats there and would have preferred to be alone. As expected, very small and cramped, the bed was a disaster as it was cushions on planks and they kept sliding off so I was lying on the hard boards. Don't make the same mistake I made if you arrive in the evening which is to light the wood burner, the heat it gave off was phenomenal in such a small space and I lay for half the night feeling like I could hardly breathe lol 😆 Also no hot water so cant wash, not a problem for me as I was only staying one night but at £80 per night I think the owner needs to get some of these issues sorted out, I see previous reviews have also mentioned it
- Tinasparkles (9/5): Peaceful - Exactly as listed. Cosy and secluded. A brilliant back-to-basics stay enjoying the simple things - the sound of the canal, wind in the trees, birdsong and the rain on the roof.
Delicious fish and chips from the Frying Yorkshireman, public toilets in Gargrave for those who need a bit more than the chemical loo experience!
Great guest instructions and helpful owner..
Cool box/fridge efficient.
- Sarah (10/5): We had a wonderful stay,it was beautiful, peaceful and tranquil xx -
- Alan (4/5): Disappointing - I looked forward to an unusual night's stay instead of usual hotel or bandb. Never got to experience a stay on the boat as confused messaging meant I was in one location but the boat was moored elsewhere. Thankfully I managed to secure alternative accommodation and have since resolved matters with the boat owner to our mutual satisfaction.
Thank you to Bruce - the boT owner.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb - Lovely peaceful stay, everything you need for the night! Basic but as to be expected with the type of accommodation ! Beautiful location was very relaxing! Was a little tricky to find!
- Sharon (6/5): Quirky boat, Easy to find clear directions. - It was easy to find with great directions. It’s was something different. The fire was a great touch and the supply of wood was nice. Very quirky place but could do with a bit TLC Bed was a bit uncomfortable.
No Water supply which we were aware and water was left for us. But wouldn’t stop us going again
- Kim (3/5): Poor - Location beautiful No running water at all on the boat had to use water from a bottle was not told this until we got there shower block was few miles away half the electric sockets were not working very unkempt
- Karen (8/5): Lovely spot on the Leeds Liverpool Canal, booked an extra day to enjoy the glorious weather - Location stunning. Wild life in abundance, a taster for staying on a narrowboat Upgrade of facilties on boat and a little TLC would enhance the stay. But knew it wouldn't be hotel standards as it's a small character Narrow boat.
- John (2/5): I paid £100 to stay in this property and when booking and looking at the photos on the website I thought it was nice but - The location was the only thing we liked about the property and that was the main reason we booked it. The property was very dirty inside and out and looked like it hadn’t been used or cleaned for ages. The bins were still full of rubbish. There was no running water at the property so we were unable to shower or even wash our hands after using the toilet. Although the property was advertised as a non smoking property there was a distinctive smell of cigarette smoke inside.
- Mick (8/5): A relaxing break - Excellent location.
The log burner was a treat and made it so cosy at night Not having water was a bit of a challenge but we were told about this before we arrived.
- Amanda (9/5): Superb - It was a nice expierence Nothing.
We had a nice trip.
- Loretta (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location. I had such a lovely stay xx
- Melanie (7/5): Good -
- Lee (8/5): Just as cozy as the name suggests. - Just booked for 1 night at the last minute. Spoke to the host, as the directions diddn't come through straight away, and was advised that he's having trouble with the water supply, so it was up to us if we still wanted to stay. As it was 1 night, we agreed. Glad we did, it was set in such a relaxing spot on the canal, with parking 1 minute walk away. The boat is lovely and cosy, be it a little shabby in places, but that added to the vibe imo. Has a cooker, most things you need to cook with, a fridge and the owner had put the fire on in preparation for our arrival so it was lovely and warm. Definitely read the instructions he sends you on how to keep the fire going, very useful. I had no trouble locating the parking as others have mentioned, but maybe send a 'what 3 words' address to help future customers. Lovely 40 min walk down the towpath into Gargrave village for nice pubs and supplies. Water supply not working, but was advised of this before staying.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Location, wood burning stove, something different Chemical toilet flush was broken
- Paul (8/5): Very happy with our stay, Bruce was great on the phone giving directions. - Excellent location and quaint setup.
- Harrop (9/5): Superb -
- Russell (1/5): DID NOT STAY - There was nothing to like as we did not stay The boat was in a very secluded place which was fine by us. The way you had to lock your self in was ridiculous it had one single slide across bolt a bit like you might get in a loo. There was not way was this secure enough for the location. The boat had cobwebs and mould. There were mould spots on the bedding, although i accept effort had been made to wash them off but they could still be seen.
We did not stay as it was not safe or hygienic. We contact the owner and his response by email is that narrow boats are not for everyone. Again i accept this but i have spent years on narrow boats as my brother owned one.
- Karen (7/5): Lovely to try something different. Would recommend. - It was definitely cosy, nice to do something different and while the location was quiet and peaceful, it wasn't far from a nearby village. It was relaxing and the surrounding scenery was lovely. Communication was good and we had everything we needed for a 1 night stay.
- Vikki (10/5): Fun and relaxing. The swans kept us entertained too! If you’re going take some food for the swans! - The location was idyllic. I would definitely stay again. The parking was tricky but we managed it in the end.
- Mick (7/5): Great little boat - love the hole boat thing....like fools we took our 2 labs with us not enough space but that's not the boats fault...for a couple brilliant ..wildlife is fantastic. swans owls 👍👍 water system is a bit dodgy..nothing that a dip in the canal can't sort out ha ha (joke)
- Dawn (8/5): Very good - Very peaceful and beautiful location in the countryside. Bruce was very helpful providing directions. Would love to stay again.
- Walvin (10/5): Fantastic holiday plenty of Scenery And.
A lot of places to visit - Fantastic scenery Just a bit too small
- Fradge (7/5): Sweet Little Boat - Lovely Quiet Spot.
Peaceful, Quirky, loved the wood burning stove was lovely and cosy, soon warmed the place up. Smaller than I thought. Big enough for two. Very retro and basic, needs some tlc . Quite hard to find but we got there in the end.
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely and peaceful location
- Richard (7/5): Good - Beautiful location - quiet, lots of nature all around and we loved the walk up the canal into Gargrave As you might expect the space is not large but we thought there were a few relatively small changes and repairs which were needed.
- Dawn (7/5): Week of tranquility. - Location not too far from Skipton.very tranquil spot. The facilities on board were a little lacking. If being used as a Airbnb, then a table(foldind)would have been appreciated. Also info on local sights and eateries as not a lot of space for cooking..
Storage needed, a small rest of drawers even ...there is potential for a stunning little hideaway.. just needs small things finished..
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Liz (6/5): First time staying on a narrowboat, & it won’t be the last! 😊 - We loved the location & ability to speak to owner for a welcome handover. There could have been a small table on the wall to R of log burner. 2 people could then sit at it for meals - one on end of cushioned sofa & the other on the fold out chair.
A coupe of lower shelves each side of the bow door to put cups on would also be useful.
- Ward (10/5): Exceptional - Great host, Great location ɓoat was lovely and fully kitted out.
- Wands (5/5): Passable - Location peaceful sorrundings Toilet smelled paper tissues still in bottom from previous use outside bin on stern deck was full of rubbish inside could do with re furb no table or anything to put brews etc on when sat on sofas
- Martin (1/5): Very disappointed, dated and very poor décor. Bed was very uncomfortable. - Had to phone the owner several times trying to find the boat as the instructions were very poor.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (8/5): Very good - quaint barge very cosy on canal lots of wildlife very secluded and quiet good value for money sleeping was a bit uncomfortable and shower not great bit far from shops and pub
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - An absolutely stunning location, while the accommodation is basic, it was perfect for our needs. If you are looking for a secluded and quiet spot surrounded by beautiful countryside, it is the perfect getaway.
- Ellie (9/5): Had a great stay, would recommend! -
- Cheryl (8/5): Very good -
- Luke (8/5): We both loved it and it was a unique and enjoyable experience that we will be looking to do more of in future because of - Lovely location, both where the boat is moored and the nearby town of gargraveThe boat itself was amazing. Plenty of information provided beforehand. There wasnt really anything unpleasant about the stay. The boat was in good condition. The only comments i have are,
Some instruction on how to dispose of the ashes from the stove as it got full quick. And there wasnt any sign of a fire extinguisher.
Other than that it was amazing
