- Nicola (10/5): A beautiful stay in a charming B&B peaceful, welcoming & unforgettable. - Beautiful B&B can not fault this place. We had the master room as I wanted to include a bath to soak in after spending a day hiking. The bed was so comfortable & the room was immaculate. Breakfast delicious! Lovely homemade carrot cake left out to enjoy- tea & coffee always available. If it’s a peaceful stay you’re looking for this is the place. Much nicer than the coming & goings noise of a hotel. Johns b&b is a home from home … perfect !

The host was excellent and the room was comfortable and had everything I needed. LED light in the bedroom smoke detector illuminated the room at night.

- Suwat (9/5): All excellent !! - + Room size
+ Cleanliness
+ Breakfast
+ Homemade Carrot cakes
+ Friendly Host - a bit far location because we brought 2 big suitcases, recommend to split your stuffs for staying.
- Cheryl (7/5): Nice B&B with very friendly owner - Lovely welcome from John and loved the little welcome carrot cakes. Rooms and breakfast room were lovely. Great location for doing the Edale Sklyline We’d asked if it was possible for a takeaway breakfast as we were leaving early for our hike. They said it should be fine but said it wasn’t possible when we arrived. They did leave some muesli and fruit out for us but we needed it to takeaway. Top pillows were extremely lumpy & definitely need replacing. Room was very cold despite the heating being on. Thankfully there was another quilt in the wardrobe. Road noise was loud right through the night. Bring earplugs! We felt like it was overpriced for the experience we had.
- Hutchinson (10/5): Perfect - What a little gem of a find. Perfectly located with easy access to walks and good amenities nearby. Communication before I arrived was excellent and John was welcoming and helpful when I got there. My room was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Beautiful linen, fitted sheets (hurrah!) and a lovely hot shower. Breakfast was delicious and set me up for my walk. I was planning to walk up Win Hill but due to high winds John advised against and gave me a lovely alternative. I highly recommend and would love to return.
- Tony (10/5): A warm welcome! - John was a welcoming and friendly host, always attentive to the needs of his guests. He understands what people want to get the best out of their stay, whether that be walking or cycling in the area. Expect great breakfasts, comfy beds , a decent shower and cake at the end of your day out! Nothing.
- Derek (9/5): Really good and an excellent place to stay. - Breakfast was excellent , location too. A very friendly warm welcome too with good pre-arrival communication and an extra nicety was the cake on arrival and the nondairy milk too. Its a personal preference, but our only comment would be that it would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room itself particularly for the morning. (Only this subtracts from the absolute top rating).
- Kitty (10/5): Excellent place to stay! - We loved the warm welcome of John and invitation to be in the room downstairs to relax, drink tea and sit on the couch and read books. John also gave us a great challenge to cycle and gave us just the right ideas to explore the hills around Hope Valley Everything was good!
- Chris (10/5): -
- Neil (8/5): Virtually Perfect - A lovely, well-maintained B&B.
Ideally situated just up the road from Castleton. Some small details were that even though tea/coffee making facilities were downstairs, it would have been nice to have these in our room. Also, the breakfast was well presented and nice to eat, apart from the dried-out bacon. Apart from this we had a nice time in Thorndene.
- Kate (10/5): Highly recommend! - A beautiful home. Spotlessly clean. Our room had character and very tastefully decorated. Bed was comfortable and had a great night sleep. The ensuite was again, spotless with a great shower. Our host, John, was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was great with a wide choice on the menu. It really felt like nothing was too much trouble. There was nothing to not like.
- Michelle (10/5): Beautiful property and breakfast was perfect start of the day - Perfect location
- CHRIS (9/5): -
- Wendy (10/5): - Lovely place. John the owner was really helpful, nothing was too much trouble. bedroom and ensuite were large, spacious, and exceptionally clean and comfortable.superb breakfast all in all a really lovely place to stay. Didn't try the cake but will next time Norhing
- Joan (10/5): Highly recommend Thorndene B&B as a clean, comfortable base to explore the Hope Valley. - Very welcoming host, provided good information about hiking in the area. Wonderful breakfasts and teacakes in the afternoon. Access to a small refrigerator and microwave was handy. All good!
- Helen (10/5): Excellent Accommodation - John was an excellent host, making me feel very welcome and even making sure I had breakfast despite my early start the one morning. The accommodation is neat and tidy with everything you need. Will definitely be back!
- Philip (9/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Fantastic place for walkers to stay in the heart of the Peak District - Breakfast was lovely and the room as luxurious as I thought it would be. John was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. It was in an ideal location for walking in the local area.
- Richard (10/5): -
- John (8/5): Good value B&B in great location - Good size room in a good quality B&B. Great location.
- David (10/5): The best choice for a stay in beautiful Derbyshire. Don’t pass this one up! Loved our stay! - John, the owner was an exceptional host. Friendly, helpful! Gave great recommendations of places to visit. For example he recommended a visit to Haddon Hall which became perhaps our favorite place in the area. The property is beautifully located, and the breakfast ordering was easily accomplished the nights before and served exactly on time. Food was delicious! Bed was extremely comfortable, and the bathroom and facilities were first rate. You can’t go wrong here. Nothing negative to say. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

- su (9/5): Great little place with plenty to do nearby - Very Friendly hosts, very comfortable room and in a lovely area. Would highly recommend and definitely visit again Disappointed no tea making facilities in the room. Had to go downstairs to dining room to make a hot drink which put us off getting a drink in the morning in case other guests were having breakfast

- Pieter (10/5): Very nice stay in this beautiful B&B - The place is fantastic, the surroundings majestic, the host is wonderful, the rooms are grand and the breakfast is great
- Dr Nikolai (10/5): Dream bed and breakfast - Wonderful place and thanks to John we were in good hands. Very knowledgeable and pleasant gentleman, with rare cooking skills. Transportation can be tricky if you avoid cars, like us. The tourist buses are quite expensive, so it is suggested to plan logistics in advance.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Lovely B & B in a lovely location - Lovely place to stay with great hosts who made us feel very welcome. Room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The lovely homemade cake left out after a day out was a lovely touch and delicious. Breakfast was lovely too and freshly cooked to order with lots of choice.
Great location, easy to find with off road parking and close to lots of sights. John (host) was very knowledgeable and helpful and gave us some great advice.

I don't think there was anything not to like
