Guest Reviews
- Rahul (1/5): Bad - Absolutely nothing except for location This is the worst property I have stayed in .
There were red ants all over the room .
Although we booked the highest category suits , still the room was not at all clean . There was water leaking from the roof . We were travelling with 2 babies and the hotel was absolutely non supportive . They heavily charged for baby milk and food and denied giving anything after 10pm . They didn’t even gave us basic utensils and cutlery so that we can make ready to make food for babies after 9 pm . We paid soo much for a night and the hotel denied giving us basic services .
Absolute shitty hotel .
I would be glad if we get any amount of refund
- Heshan (1/5): - This hotel is absolutely worthless. We paid 272€ for both nights and we cancelled after one night and got a refund. Im sri lankan and my girl friend is german and we booked this hotel for a nice experience but this ruined our mood. We were the only guests in the hotel. In the night one of the hotel staff decided to have his own karaoke party, and had a huge loud speaker playing sinhala songs and he was singing with a microphone with his friend. There were no other workers in this hotel apart from this guy and his friend at that time to even complain. The music was absolutely loud we couldnt even sleep we even heard it in our room at the 2nd floor. Once I told him to stop it he did. Then the next day they decided not to give us the buffet because we were the only people in the hotel as guests. So they gave us an a la carte with their own serving. They messed up this as well. The food was very cold and the sausages were so dry. We told them to put onions in our breakfast two times but they didnt. I dont know why the staff even get paid. We asked for water and they took 15 minutes to bring us water. Oh and we had to pay for the water as well. My girlfriend accidently left her cap in the pool bed and when we inquired about it the hotel said the workers never found the cap. They said they asked all the workers. We were the only guests in the hotel so there is no one that could have taken this Ralph Lauren cap other than a worker there. later I showed the video evidence of where the cap was and told them to check the cctv cameras. And suddenly they said they found a the cap in the breakfast area. So definitely they found that a worker took it and made it appear in the breakfast area where we never took the cap to. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
- GV (6/5): Patenkinamai. - Pusryčiai kaip 5 žvaigždučių viešbučiui skurdoki,mažai vaisių,patiekalai atšalę.Už normalę kavą reikia mokėti atskirai arba turi gerti birzgalą. Neturėrų 5 žvaigždučių viešbutis imti pinigus per pusryčius už kavą.Paprašėme iškepti blynelių pasakė,kad šiandien nekepame nors kitiems mačiau nunešė.

- Kamlesh (10/5): -
- Lea (10/5): - Really nice hotel :-)
Loved the bath tub on the balcony :-)
Everyone was super lovely and welcoming
- Jamie (9/5): Lovely hotel, pleasant staff - Lovely room, very clean, very pleasant staff, pool and private beach are lovely The hot food at breakfast was only ever lukewarm not hot, it was little bit of a walk from the centre but this kept it quite quiet
- Nuno (9/5): -
- Anna (1/5): - В ванной все в плесени, в номере грязно, постоянно выключался свет (из-за этого ночью переставал работать кондиционер). На завтраке есть почти нечего

- Madhura (7/5): Great location, but a run down hotel. - The location is good, the facilities are good. They were very helpful with a small passport related emergency. The hotel is a little run down, with some stained linens and irregular housekeeping. They would provide water bottles but would say that we needed to pay extra for them; however, they did provide them the one time they cleaned our room. The bathroom vents need deep cleaning because they smell bad. The food is average. The tea and coffee are served cold during breakfast, and so are the curries. The place does not seem to be value for money.

Auch der Pool und Strand waren toll.
- Dana (9/5): - The food, the staff, the facilities, the view and the pool, the private beach ⛱️ the room was big enough with two balconies. Everything was really good 👍🏼 😌 recommended 👌
- Lex25Z (8/5): -
- Samantha (7/5): - The room's view was spectacular & I was told it was the best room in the hotel. The staff were friendly & the food was tasty. It is an older hotel so there were some minor issues with heavy rain seeping through the window/door & small harmless bugs creeping in which isn't so bad as I've witnessed this at new hotels as well & it can be the norm in tropical countries. The bathroom was functional but the appearance as well as other minor concerns perhaps could be improved, as it is a beautiful location & a nice hotel other than that.
- gola (9/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): - Ocean view room was fantastic, getting both sunrise and sunset. Location is somewhat away from the main town but easily accessible via a TukTuk. The immediate beach is not as beautiful as other nearby ones.
- Joanne (9/5): A family group for a 10-day holiday. - We were a family group in four rooms. We enjoyed having the beach and pool as options when we were relaxing and the location was a short tuk tuk (or motor scooter for those braver than me) to some great restaurants, bars, and cafes. Also close to spots for surfing L, snorkelling and other activities. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff very kind and professional. The water off the beach was quite murky compared to other places we swam although it was still lovely for a swim. One of the rooms smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. Ahungama generally was much more expensive than we expected which was probably due to the time of year - but was still a bit of a shock.
- Matthew (7/5): - Views, facilities, friendly staff Cleanliness was poor - air vents for example in room and breakfast lounge. Expensive for quality of rooms offered
- Matthew (7/5): - Location, friendly staff, facilities Certain items like bathroom ceiling vents or breakfast room ceiling vents need deep cleaning

- Marius (9/5): It was a successfull decision to take the accomodation at the Garton' s Cape Hotel. I'd like to - My room had a spectacular sea-view, I mentioned this special request (to have a sea-view position); my request
was more than respected. From my balcony, it seemed that I saw the whole shore detail and the Ocean water.
The room was a quiet one, clean and safe.
The breakfast was as good as it's possible in the visited country, anyway acording to the Hotel Classification.
The Reception and Hotel Manager Head - Mr. Indika - is a very kind, instructed and rapid and deep understanding person.
Everything went excelent in this Hotel, so I will come again to be hosted here.
- Saranjit (5/5): A 3star hotel rates 5star on Booking.com - Beach Dated. Limited options for Breakfast. Unfriendly staff. Rated 5star on Bookings but this hotel is definitely not a 5star standard…false rating on Bookings
- Татьяна (10/5): Красивый отель на берегу океана. - Прекрасный отель с бассейном и вкусной кухней. Повар прекрасно готовит блинчики с кокосом. Все было хорошо.
- Tim (8/5): -
- Asanka (10/5): -
- Sana (9/5): It was good - The location was beautiful Nothing
Merci

- Rohan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (6/5): Dated hotel in beachside location - Right in a lovely beach with sun loungers under the trees. Very helpful waiter at breakfast (on day one I asked what the Sri Lankan breakfast option was. There wasn’t one so on day two he organised one for me without my asking). Lifeguard very attentive. It was very dated. Holes in sheets, doors to balcony didn’t close, pool area was uneven and full of water that was so hot you couldn’t walk round pool.
- Farah (2/5): Very poor -
- Vinod (8/5): Very good -
- Suhail (8/5): Very good -
- Gagan (10/5): Excellent option at Ahangama - We were extremely pleased with the hotel, the staff was very courteous and prompt, good location and they had lot of options of water sports like Snorkelling. We would highly recommend this hotel to our friends and family Water pressure in the room in all the taps
- Aline (8/5): Loved our stay and will come back this year! - location, staff, food/restaurant, room Restaurant is expensif
- Louise (10/5): Really enjoyable stay, would recommend. - Gorgeous hotel. Right on the sea front. Lovely big rooms with beautiful view of the sea. Delicious breakfast and other food ordered in the evening.
Such friendly, helpful staff. Gorgeous swimming pool with view of the sea. Would recommend. Just that it was a 30 min walk into the middle of Ahangama but there were still good food options approx 10 min walk away.
Also the pillows: too flat with one but too high with two! Maybe consider some slightly firmer pillows.
- Pinidu (9/5): View and sea are awesome - The location and view are awesome The staff were not helpful at the breakfast buffet. They were very lethargic.
- Khaled (7/5): Good -
- Dee-anne (8/5): Very good - Private section of the beach was amazing! The pool was also stunning!
- Eddy (8/5): Very good -
- Ellie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Niamh (3/5): Poor - Pool area was lovely but felt the staff were never there to order from, always had to walk into reception in my bikini to order food and drinks to the pool. We also booked massages in the spa thinking it would a proper spa like vibe but turns out it’s only a room rented out by other spas. We really enjoyed the massage but just didn’t feel like we were in a spa. Breakfast was very good and had something for everyone on the menu. Over all comparing to other hotels I stayed in around Sri Lanka i felt the staff could have been more friendly. Location, felt you had to get a tuk tuk everywhere
- Madushanka (10/5): Heaven on Earth - The whole place was wonderful. Didn't have much time to stay there.
- Abdel (10/5): Exceptional - I have enjoyed my stay and would like to the thank the manager for being very supportive. The view from the room was stunning. nothing
- Abdel (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel located in an amazing place, with stunning views, friendly staff. i loved my stay with them and i will come back for sure.
- Elie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darren (8/5): Enjoyable break to enjoy the beaches and end the trip! - Nice pool overlooking the ocean, great private beach with sunbeds and table service, good ocean views and decent breakfast and good food from the menu reasonably priced. We had a leak in our room when we arrived and there were bugs from the light in my sons room. The staff were excellent in getting both issues dealt with immediately which is a credit to them and that the hotel knows what it's doing and the staff care.
- Solveiga (10/5): Directly on the beach - Very good place, directly on the beach, very helpfull and nice staff. Nothing
- Hoda (7/5): Good -
- Bailool (4/5): Sad experiance unfortunately - The view is beautiful
Breakfast was decent 1. The room was not cleaned well specially the floor and there was dust on the tea cups glass shelve
2. Stains on the curtain up & down
3.One light was not working so we had to call them to replace the pulp
4. They gave us blanket for our kid that has dark reddish brownish spot
5.There was spots on the kettle that haven t been cleaned plus ants around it so we asked them to replace it
6. There was water dripping next to the bathroom water hose
7. The dinner that we had there was tastless and not worth the money at all specially the pizza..it was not looking or tasting like pizza at all despite the fact that it took them long time 2 make it.
8.In the last day they were after us to give them ONE laundry bag that we were using for our dirty clothes saying " its hotel property" ..all the hotels that we stayed before in different parts of the world did not have an issue of that EXCEPT this hotel. It is shameful that the hotel asked its guests to return a used laundry bag and not by one but by 3 different staff at the time of checkout.
9.Staff are not very friendly and they look sad most of the time.
- Anwarsyed (8/5): Very good - Excellent views, private beach, super friendly and helpful staff (special thanks to Sudesh), confortable facilities. Highly recommended.
- Sergey (5/5): Passable -
- Yariv (10/5): ❤️ - Everything!!! This place is amazing Nothing, perfect hotel
- Gaurav (9/5): Nice place with amazing staff - The view from the room is nice from the upper floor rooms. A beautiful and a clean swimming pool. Adjacent beach is great with some part surrounded by rocks thus having a controlled flow of waves, making it a perfect spot for swimming and enjoying the waves at the same time. Food is amazing and so is the staff. Loved the fact that everyday breakfast had some different items unlike some of the places which have same buffet everyday. Other facilities like Table tennis, pool table, archery etc. were in decent condition too. Dilshan from the reception was very helpful in making our stay comfortable and addressing our requirements. - Air conditioning in the TT and pool table room was mostly turned off making it too hot to play there.
- Lack of sea activities like kayaking which are expected to be available in such resorts.
- Keitha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Neeraj (9/5): Excellent choice - We absolutely loved the property and staff’s attention.
We have been on a 9 day trip to SL and this was the best property that we stayed in.
The room was huge, with excellent design and decor, and lovely ocean views.
The staff were friendly and very helpful with everything we asked of them. The range of breakfast options was great for a hotel of this volume (low). My partner’s dietary requirements are gluten-free / dairy free food… and she generally struggled throughout our trip, but the chef did their best to provide alternatives .
The private beach and the swimming pool were definitely worthwhile
It is away from the hustle bustle of Ahangama’s hotspots … but that was a positive for us.
- Svetlana (6/5): True 3 star hotel! - The staff was good. Very good! The location is good. Depends on what u want. If u have a car, it doesn't matter. It is near the bus station. Staff did an excellent job with what they were given. View is good. Price for the room is really too high. The building is a bit old and the facilities are too. Prices are like at the 5 star hotel. Cashews nuts 4.000 Lkr , really. Though food was good but really pricy
And it is not a season to be so gready:)
- Floyd (10/5): Great property. Very clean. Very friendly staff. - Fantastic views. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Very clean property. Beach was great and so was the pool. Great hotel. Would definately reccommend it. Would stay here again. There was nothing we didnt like. It ticked all the boxes.
- Raul (7/5): Good -
- Maurizio (9/5): Superb -
- Inha (10/5): Best hotel for calm vacation in SriLanka - The place where u can easily swim which is not always easy in Srilanka. Here the ocean is calm. Balcony view is wow. Swimming pool is very clean. Food also very nice. Hotel is helping in everything. I tried 5 different hotels in SriLanka and this was the best for me. Here u can swim, tan, enjoy the ocean view from the private beach and from our panoramic suite. So relaxing. They clean the rooms every day and provide with everything you need. The only problem we faced was big cockroaches. I saw them 3 times. Thanks god we caught all of them.
- Rita (3/5): Poor -
- Ajay (7/5): Good - Beach
- Ian (1/5): Poor all round quality - Nothing Everything nothing was upto a decent standard looked cheap not worth the money
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - The beautiful location on the beach, the nice staff and the comfortable pool area.
- Yuliya (9/5): Superb -
- Mathias (10/5): Very nice luxury boutique hotel vibe on an amazing beach, close to ahagama. - Everything. Great beach with an amazeballs island in front. Good service, very dedicated staff. Great food, drinks and rooms.
- Eleonora (10/5): The best one. Absolutely love. - Everything was just perfect. Had a Panoramic room and the view is fantastic. Food in the restaurant was very delicious. Service is great, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Amazing beach in front of the hotel too.
- Sachinthana (9/5): Superb -
- Tracey (9/5): Stunning place overall - watching the fishermen going out at night and returning in the morning was so lovely - a snippe - Modern hotel with a sparkling clean pool.
Beautiful private beach - not too busy.
Rooms cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels.
Very helpful staff who could speak English and help in any way they could.
Quiet area but only a 500 tuk tuk ride from the town where you could buy cheap locally made pottery, baskets, coconut mugs and sculptures.
Fresh fish laid out - you choose they cook at DILS.
Buffet food was ok but tended to be cold.
Breakfast was excellent with western and Sri Lankan offered.
Comfortable bed. Balcony with a sea view.
Restaurant on the top floor with 360 view through ‘all glass’ surround.
Lift to easily access everywhere.
I would come back!!! Just that the food was often cold when it should have been hot!
- Ishan (9/5): Wonderful Beach Escape - My stay at Garton's Cape booked through Booking.com was fantastic! The beach views were stunning, the room was spacious and clean, and the food was delicious. The staff was super friendly, and it was great value for money. Can't wait to go back!
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional - Second time around at Garton's Cape definitely didn't disappoint!
Rooms were spacious and well-equipped with lovely views over Devil's Rock and beyond.
Staff were very helpful and conscientious throughout.
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Theodora (9/5): Superb - Clean space, and welcoming staff!
- Avital (7/5): Beautiful hotel. Location a bit remote. Skip the restaurant. - The hotel is situated on what looks like a lovely private beach. There is a pool overlooking the ocean and we had the room on the ground floor which gave us private access to the pool and beach area. The staff were very friendly and the lobby area was beautiful. The location of the hotel isn't ideal if you want to explore the culinary scene in Ahangama (and believe me, there is much to explore from this amazing casual East Falafel, Turkish Sisters, to the fancier Tel-Aviv style Citra resturant). The main surfing beach along with all the attractions are a 10 minute tuktuk ride away, and we simply didn't have energy for the haggling (the hotels never help you find a driver who would give you a fair price; it's like their in cahoots to get you for every dollar), so we chose to have dinner at the hotel restaurant, which we regretted. The place was almost empty, and the atmosphere was sad. I had a Caesar salad which was just mayo mixed with bacon chips and lettuce (no parmesan at all) and some weird-tasting prawns. My partner had some stir-fry, which was really lacking in terms of sauce. I had an extremely salty and equally expensive margarita. We left wishing we had gotten out for dinner. Their Sri-Lankan style dishes looked good, but after 3 weeks of curry, we just wanted something more familiar. Breakfast was ok.
- Sophia (8/5): Very good - Absolutely loved our Panoramic View Room with direct views of the ocean and the private beach. The sounds of waves were magical and great contribution for a deep nightly sleeps. We also enjoyed the pool next to lapping waves. Some of the best foods we had are served at the hotel restaurant. Staff were all amazing, hospitable, polite and friendly and they made our stay. Super comfy beds. Great location as only a few minutes away from the fabulous Kabalana Beach. Furniture is a tad run down and could do with updating.
- Sweena (7/5): Amazing sea view property with fair facilities and a comfortable stay. - Sea view Limited facilities.
Limited food options
- Piotr (10/5): Excellent staff / I left my watch by the beach which was promptly returned by the waiting staff to the front desk - Excellent staff / both at the front desk and around the property.
- Amber (10/5): Beautiful location and pool - Beautiful hotel with wonderful pool and private beach. Staff was attentive and management checked in with us frequently. Sadly I had to leave sooner than expected with a sick toddler (needed to fly home earlier for her doctor). But everything was lovely for our one night and I would have happily stayed longer. Bathrooms are a bit small.

- Knicho78 (9/5): Very nice stay, has an amazing view of the ocean, quite expensive - It was a lovely stay at Gartons Cape. We booked the Panoramic Suite, which is huge and has two balconies looking out to sea. The hotel is on the coastal edge offering a fantastic view.
We went in late April, which was a very quite period, at one point we were the only guests there.
The food is good, room service was at times slow but very hospitable. The staff are very nice. The weather, but that's not the fault of the hotel.
We read some comments beforehand about the road noise, which from the one side of the room with the doors open you can hear the road, BUT there is a second balcony in the Panoramic Suite overlooking the sea and is better anyway.
However if using the hotels beach area and sun loungers, noise from the road will not lead to a peaceful experience.
The mattress was very uncomfortable, which after complaining the manager had it replaced for one that was very comfortable and made a huge difference to our stay.
We had an experience with Tuk Tuk driver territory wars with the so called designated hotel driver angry with the driver we had booked in from outside. We booked someone else because the hotel driver wasn't available, and suggested to do so by reception staff. It ended with the other driver being evicted and we had to use the hotel driver, which was also far more expensive than others. He did however have a change of tune, apologised, was very kind, gave us a free drink at sunset. Therefore all is forgiven. The hotel staff should have been clear and more helpful when the situation escalated.
