Guest Reviews
- Nicola (1/5): Absolutely appalling - Almost every aspect of the property was dirty - the crockery in the cupboards, the pictures on the walls, the walls themselves, the skirting boards, the soft furnishings, the kitchen counters and the floors. There was mould in the grout between the tiles and hair stuck in the bodged trim on the kitchen counter. Plug sockets on the wall near the cooker were covered in congealed fat and dirt. It was cold with no way of properly heating it up because the night storage heaters had been turned off at the wall.
Attached photos show just some examples of the dirt and stains. All photos were taken before we had used any kitchen equipment. All crockery and cutlery had to be washed thoroughly before use.
It was a deeply unpleasant stay and a complete rip-off. The 'Finest Retreats' (Filthiest Retreats might be more apt) after-sales process is poor
- Sandra (5/5): Good location and very good value for a basic stay. - The location was fabulous and easy to get in with lock box. It did heat up quickly with fan heater fire place in lounge. Didn’t like shared outdoor space with access to neighbours garden not ideal with dogs as not fenced off. The beds were uncomfortable, the double bed mattress dipped into the middle and the bunk beds squeaked, rattled and moved when someone moved on it. The place smelt of old smoke, it was very cold on entry the sofa and chairs had stains and worn in places which were hidden by cushions and there is glass in the bathroom door which isn’t pleasant for anyone when someone is sat on the toilet.
- Bamford (10/5): Home from home - Lovely little home from home house, lovely area lots of walks and things to do and villagers are so lovely and welcoming. Everything was great
- Kevin (6/5): Great location, needs improvements - The proeprty was in a fantastic location for hiking. Overall good amount of space for a few people Thee property hadn't been accessed (cleaned) that day as when we arrived there was a pile of letters on the doorstep which did mean the property was stupidly cold. Additionally the heating is ran off a timer which has been set to come on over night which meant the first night we slept with a few extra blankets and sadly the message I sent to ask how we manually override was new responded to.
- Glyn (7/5): - The house is exactly what we expected of a basic holiday let in the area. Some aspects of the property are a bit dated and maybe a little scruffy but the fact that they allow dogs makes up for this. Parking is on the street and we never had a problem parking close to the house. The village is nice and we have stayed there several times before. The speed of the traffic through the village is a little annoying but that is no fault of the property.
- Scott (7/5): Beautiful cottage and location. - Beautiful cottage and location Tiny back garden plus neigh our peering through the kitchen window occasionally.
- glyn (4/5): Not cleaned. Damp and in need of decorating - The property had not been cleaned and there were cobwebs every where even after it was cleaned over 2 hours later. There was a large damp patch on ceiling and down the wall in the main bedroom. The furniture in the lounge was stained. The staff were very apologetic and offered us compensation. We've been informed Finest Retreats that the property is not being listed until remedial work and decorating is completed. Hopefully the property will be greatly improved because it does have good potential and is in a great location. See above
- Jette (7/5): Great place, like being in someones home. - The central placement of the place was nice. There where a washing machine - that was nice. The directions was way of, and it was very difficult to find the place. If it just said - "the house is in front of the Star pub," that would have been a great help. The living room was filled with a lot of decoration stuff, but just made it seem to crowded for us according to relaxing. The tv had a scratch. The bathup plug wasn't tight.
- Donna (7/5): Lovely little house but needs some TLC. - Penetrating damp in the bedrooms. Main bedroom ceiling was wet with flaking paint which was cascading down the wall and soaking the wallpaper. I am unsure if there is a leaking pipe in the loft but it was very bad.
- Linda (7/5): A very enjoyable stay in a lovely cosy cottage. with a few issues that can be rectified to improve holiday makers exp - A cosy cottage in a with some newly decorated rooms in a good location in a lovely village with the Coop and a few local shops and pubs just around the corner and buses to Bakewell, Buxton and Castleton. We were able to do some lovely walks directly from the cottage. Mostly we were able to park outside or a little way down the road.
The sofas and beds were comfortable and heating quickly warmed the lounge although the storage heaters were useful as well. The small kitchen was very well equipped and the washing machine was useful as we were there for 11 nights. We were grateful for the complimentary, teas, coffee and a good selection of biscuits and toiletries. There was plenty of hotwater for washing and showers. There was no furniture in the second bedroom where the bunk beds were although there was space for a small wardrobe or set of drawers. The rubbish bin outside was full and had not been emptied. The washing machine leaked from tthe front seal and looked like this was not a new issue. We had to wash a few plates and cutlery before using them.
- Aaron (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (7/5): Great location, straightforward basic accommodation. - An old stone cottage in the interesting historical village of Tideswell. Several decent pubs including the welcoming Star Inn across the street. The interior is fairly basic and utilitarian and rather unloved, although there were some nice welcoming touches like biscuits and toiletries. Sofas not comfortable, awkward room layouts, and old fashioned storage heaters made it all seem a bit austere. The small second bedroom has bunk beds but these seemed quite sturdy and would be ok for a smaller adult. If you want a straightforward place to sleep in a good location in the Peak District, this place is fine. If you want a charming comfortable cottage where the accommodation is part of the experience, this house is probably not the one to pick.
- Robbie (10/5): Exceptional -
