- Caroline (8/5): Lovely - We liked the whole feel of the property, how it was decorated, how it felt , welcoming . All the staff were welcoming , professional and friendly The location is set right next to a busy road , our rooms window was on the road . Which was noisy through the night with passing Lorry’s whether the window was open or closed . If we stay again we will request a room facing the back
- Carol (9/5): Really enjoyed our 2 night stay. Would recommend and would stay again. - Spacious bedroom. Spacious bathroom. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Traffic noise from main road.
- Steve (10/5): Very comfortable and welcoming hotel with bar and restaurant. - Good sized double room with modern bathroom. Very clean and all facilities as advertised. Large car park at the rear. Continental breakfast included in price was sufficient. Cooked options are extra. Very pleasant bar and restaurant. Evening meal was very good and option to dine outside welcomed in very warm weather. Noise from bar below can be heard (it is a pub/ restaurant) but this ceased before 10pm.
- Sue (10/5): Lovely place, had everything we needed. Staff were very accommodating and the room was spacious and comfy. - Lovely place, had everything we needed. Staff were very accommodating and the room was spacious and comfy.

- Jen Ming (10/5): A good relaxing place to stop - Bed was comfortable, parking spot was convenient, staffs were very welcoming and dinner at the inn was very good. It also came with light breakfast. The Inn locates on a busy streets, yet no sounds at night, also easy in and out.
- Arti (10/5): - Great food, friendly staff, comfy rooms, continental breakfast included with room price
- Robin (8/5): Great place. - Great location, good food and evening staff, very well looked after. The morning staff was grumpy and I didn’t feel welcomed which was the opposite to the evening.
- Ivor (10/5): Perfect for a 1 night stay - Location for my work men & myself. Lean, good food comfortable rooms. Nothing not to like
- Tracey (10/5): Lovely pub.nice food and a decent Port - Gorgeous breakfast
- Sharon (8/5): Pleasant enough. - The staff were amazing and the food was great. Our room, no.4 was very noisy and the bed although comfy needed better pillows and it kept coming away from the wall

- Christopher Paul (8/5): -
- ALAN (8/5): We had a pleasant stay - Great pub, rooms & food It’s on quite a busy road
- Jordan (8/5): - Super location for proximity to Garthmyl Hall. Amazing breakfast at very reasonable price and super friendly staff. The hotel is very close to a busy main road which is challenging for light sleepers like myself.
- Terri (8/5): - Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was lovely too. No complaints.

- Sarah (7/5): It was nice but Ifeel it could of been nicer - The food at night time was exceptional and very good. Bed was comfortable and very roomy Staff on arrival seemed surprised to see us and a little abrupt. The room had cobwebs in each corner of the room and the tv had clean me written on it. The bin had been used prior to us entering the room. The bath water was like warm. Shower leaked. Breakfast was okay but only included cereal and toast. For the price I expected cooked breakfast. Had too ask twice for toast.
- Rachel (10/5): Comfy beds, clean rooms & friendly staff - One of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. The room was clean, warm, and the staff were amazing - really friendly and helpful.
- Catalina (9/5): Everything was fine, but the Wi-Fi was not working properly - Everything's great The Wi-Fi was not working properly
- Keith (10/5): Totally exceeded my expectations, superb restaurant. - This pub/ restaurant is fantastic. The rooms are very comfortable, nicely decorated. It is the staff and the restaurant that really make this place outstanding. The food and wine are excellent and the staff brilliant. I highly recommend it.
- Fiona (9/5): A very comfortable inn with fabulous staff - This inn is comfortable, nicely furnished and remarkably clean. The staff are especially welcoming and friendly. Our room was spacious and the ensuite modern, and our dogs were made welcome. It wasn’t our first time staying and we were pleased to be accommodated at the rear of the property this time as it is situated at the side of a busy road. The front was noisy.
I didn’t enjoy our evening meal as much as 2 years ago, probably because I am on a restricted diet and the meal I chose thinking it would be the best option for me, arrived totally fried and swimming in fat.
- Eckersley (7/5): - Character, clean and friendly The bar closed at 10-15pm . You expect an inn to stay open when people are still in the bar to stay open until at least 11pm!
- Catherine (10/5): Excellent & looking forward to the next time. - I’m a frequent visitor. Cannot fault it at all. Nothing to report.
- Claire (10/5): - It was perfect for where we needed to be, and it was spotlessly clean We had some beautiful food in the evening and I was catered for fabulously but unfortunately having coeliac disease it can be an issue and I was glutened at breakfast and as a result have been unwell for the last 4 days
- Angela (1/5): Disappointed that we turned up and because of their restaurant being fully booked, we would not be able to served at din - Appears lovely, but didn’t get to experience it Arrived early (1pm) and planned on enjoying their bar and restaurant while we waited for the check-in time. Unfortunately we were told there were two booking slots 3:45 & 5:15 to have lunch or dinner. Even as guests of the inn, we were not able to eat at a normal ’dinner time’. As only 2 guests, it was really disappointing that we could not be accommodated. Surely their kitchen can handle 2 guests (paying for a nights accommodation too).
- Lee (8/5): -
- Ruby (9/5): - Spotlessly clean friendly Nothing all good
Be careful going down fire escape to get out especially if you tall
- Holly (9/5): -
- Laura (8/5): Lovely room, clean and great location (5min walk) to Garthmyl Hall for a wedding. Offered continental breakfast but we d - Great location for a wedding at Garthmyl Hall. Wouldn’t let us into the room even though it was ready unless you paid early check in fee.
- Suzanne (9/5): Wasn't expecting such a comfortable, clean and sparkling place to stay, excellent staff too. - The place was spotless - in the bar/restaurant and in our room/bathroom. Very comfortable bed, great shower. Good continental breakfast. Very pleasant staff, clearly motivated in their jobs. Good bustling atmosphere, clearly liked by number of people coming in. Nowhere to put washbag in bathroom, didn't really want to put it on the back of the loo.
- Ruth (10/5): -
- Caroline (7/5): Fine as a stopover but would not go out of my way to stay again - The room was quite smart. Continental breakfast included good coffee, flaky croissants, toast and fruit. Restaurant food was good quality and the three course option good value When we arrived the piped music on the patio area was some kind of rap music. I know I'm an old fogey but it's not what I expect for Sunday lunch service in a country pub. The rap/ night club music went on for a while but had calmed down to rock and pop classics by the evening. Staff were overworked and took a while to attend to us and show us our room. Service in the restaurant in the evening was stretched too. It was a busy bank holiday weekend and staff were doing their best. The bed was light, on castors and not attached to the headboard. Leaning against the headboard, the bed slid forward on the smooth polished floor depositing me and my Scrabble pieces in the chasm between bed and wall. We found and applied the brakes on the castors and this improved but didn't totally remedy the situation. Any more adventurous bed action might have had serious consequences. Fortunately after a long day cycling I didn't feel the need to experiment. Secure storage for bikes would have been appreciated

- Chris (8/5): Overall a good overnight stay with the one criticism. - All rooms spotless. Bedroom well appointed and comfortable. Staff really were first class throughout. Food good. We had a room at the front immediately abutting the main road. We could not cope with the traffic noise especially the “ thunder trucks” which seemed to run all night. Whilst we would certainly stay again there is no way we would accept the same room. Sleeping was very difficult. Sad to criticise what was otherwise a very good stopover one night stay.
- Leon (9/5): -
- michael (8/5): -
- Alison (4/5): Very noisy Very hot disappointed. - Very clean & staff helpful. Exceptionally noisy right next to a very busy main road so unable to open window to try & cool room down needs Air-con installing. Very hot with winter duvet & no summer sheets available.
A Cooked breakfast was an extra charge which was not mentioned on there website poor continental was provided in the price.
- Nina (8/5): Overall excellent facilities, food and staff. - Overall very good, Friendly staff, decent breakfast, comfortable bed, clean bathroom. Noisy room due to location next to busy road. It was a very humid and hot night so the window would have been open too but for the noise from the road all night. To be fair a very good fan was provided in the room, which made things much more tolerable.
- Ascroft (10/5): Lovely Accommodation - Beautiful room, welcoming friendly staff. Perfect location for attending a wedding at Garthmyl Hall next door.
- Gillian (10/5): Third stay did not disapoint - Breakfast & evening meal excellent No carpet in room above so you can hear every footstep.
- Andy (10/5): -
- John (5/5): Not for us! - Food good and staff helpful. Position, right on a main road with a lot of noise day and night.
Dowdy bedroom and poor stair carpet.
Hard to believe it was Inn of the year 2025, what can the others be like?
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Perfect stay for stopover travelling through the area - Very clean modern room, friendly staff and great breakfast
- alan (10/5): -
- Kelly Morris 1977 (10/5): - The staff were amazing, we had a medical issue in route and wouldn't arrive until very late, they're were fab and ensured everything was perfect for us. Can't thank them enough
- Amanda (8/5): - Staff were great.
Portions at breakfast were huge- it felt wasteful, when we asked the staff they said breakfast had been criticised previously for being too small, so they had doubled the content. Maybe they need to be more specific on the menu and offer 2 sizes at 2 prices.
- Ralph (8/5): A convenient and comfortable base for exploring Montgomery - Friendly and helpful staff.
Good meals.
Large car park
Very comfortable ground floor room (especially for elderly guests!) The location on a busy road was a problem in the very warm weather - traffic noise was a bit disturbing at night
with window open (very necessary). But this is probably insoluble!
We did not use the shower because the floor was very slippery. There should be a safety mat.
- Martin (9/5): -
- Donna (10/5): - It’s very clean, comfortable and cosy too. So feels like home from home. Food is excellent too.
- Ratcliffe (8/5): -
- julian (5/5): Brief - Love the different rooms - been there a couple of times! The quality of the meals is suboptimal!
- John (8/5): Comfortable stay the room was nicely decorated and spotless. The breakfast was disappointing the worst scrambled eggs I - Nice modern rooms. Good facilities and comforts beds. The door to the bathroom was sticking and needed sorting out as it didn’t close properly.
- SUSAN (8/5): Pub with character and great location - Friendly staff excellent location and good car parking
We ate there in the evening and the food was very good
- Livingstone (6/5): Comfortable bed. - Friendly helpful staff Room 4 traffic noise awful.
Music heard from 7 ish from elsewhere
Floor under corner of toilet door should be cleaned.
Curtains in room do not block out light from HGV’s or cars. Or daylight.
- Keith (8/5): A nice pub with rooms with friendly staff. - The location was great for me as I was attending a wedding nearby.
The staff were very polite and helpful. Large carpark. Being directly on a fast main road the traffic noise was quite loud even during the night.
My single room was very small and the sink in the bathroom was ridiculously small leading to water constantly running onto the floor.
- James (4/5): -
- Angela (9/5): -
- Stephanie (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Lovely fresh room and bathroom - Lovely clean room and bathroom, a credit to the staff. Ate lunch there but not breakfast, very good quality (gammon. ) Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Plenty of parking. If going to Garthmyl hall it’s a short walk along the main road, there’s a grass verge some of the way and then quite a walk up a hill along the drive to the Hall itself. Recommend flat shoes! Stairs may be difficult for some, both inside and outside if coming in late, and in the dark.
- Alison (9/5): We enjoyed every moment of our stay and are looking forward to staying at the Nags Head another time - We didn't have breakfast, but we ate in the restaurant in the evenings. The food was absolutely superb! The staff are so very friendly and the Nags Head is immaculately clean and tidy. It is perfectly placed for easy access plus car parking, and is located next to a canal which provided a lovely quiet after dinner stroll. Nothing.
- mike (5/5): It was good enough for one night stay but would not stay longer - Clean rooms it was on our route The last orders at the bar was at 8.30 pm which we found out when we went to order
The rooms on the front are very noise y from the traffic passing starts very early in the morning
The continental breakfast was a Coffee, Cereal ,Croissant some fruit and fruit juice No toast no meats or cheese or Breads ,poor choice
- Eleanor (8/5): -
- Jo (9/5): Charming place with lovely staff, great service and delicious food. - I first stopped at The Nags Head more than 2 years ago when we stopped for lunch on the way to taking my son to university. It has become our regular food stop as it's roughly halfway and we've never had a bad experience. This time, I decided to treat myself and stay overnight en route to collecting him and it really was a treat. The single room is obviously quite small but it does not feel cramped and has everything you need. The facilities were excellent. The staff were welcoming and friendly as always, the room was spotless and the service was great. I would definitely stay again. The continental breakfast included in the price was a bit limited. The fruit consisted of whole bananas, tangerines and apples, some pastries, cereal and a variety of flavoured yogurts and juices. The hot options however are reasonably priced. I had mushroom Benedict for £7.50 and it was delicious. It wouldn't put me off staying again.
- Steven (10/5): great business stay - lovely place to stay nothing
- Martin (8/5): Excellent stop over when travelling north with great food. - Great location. Comfortable room. We thought that the proximity to the road would disturb us - it didn't. Excellent food too and a super breakfast.
- Matthias (9/5): -
- James (9/5): - No availability in the restaurant on Sunday evening and only Sunday lunch menu.
- Stephen (10/5): Friendly clean and delicious food! - Really nice little niche , team really friendly room very clean None
- Colin Grave (9/5): We loved this hotel and would be more than happy to stay there again - The staff worked very hard and were extremely accommodating. The food was excellent and the bar was well stocked. Our room was a good size and had an en suite with both a shower and a bath. The car park was a good size and certainly ample for the size of the hotel. We travelled on motorbikes and parking was easy. A rear entrance to the upstairs rooms meant we didn't have to walk through the hotel. Pleasant walks along the adjacent canal and around the surrounding countryside. Lots of wildlife. Lots of road noise from around 4am onwards
- David (8/5): -
- Rafal (10/5): -
- Paula (8/5): Great hotel, but closes too early. - Lovely hotel, recently modernised, large rooms, great shower. Be careful if you are staying on a weeknight, we advised the hotel we would be there just around 9:15, as the weather held us up. We were then advised the kitchen would be closed, so had to stop to get some food before we got there, as we had 2 children who were hungry. The hotel were calling us at 9:30, telling us they wanted to lock up. We got there at 9:45 & clearly we were keeping the staff member there. It was a disappointing arrival after such a long journey.
There was continental breakfast included in the price, however for the cost of the rooms, I think a cooked breakfast should have been included.
- Karon (10/5): Exalant - We booked there at the last minute. After being let down off another place . But they say everything happens for a reason. Lucky for us becaus it really was an exceptional place The staff were really friendly they couldnt do enough for us . It wasreally clean annd the room that we were in was huge and so comfortable. And the food was really good nice portion sizes. We just totaly enjoyed every part of our mini brake
- Catherine (5/5): - Ideal location for work needs food was excellent The bedroom one engineer stayed in was over the bar and loud music could be heard until midnight so not a good nights sleep for workers.
- Steve (7/5): Very nice staff and excellent food - Lots of character Road to the front of the property was busy throughout the night and hence noisy
- Steven (10/5): Excellent experience - Excellent experience, staff are friendly and you can tell they've received valuable training.
- Alison (9/5): -
- Gallagher (10/5): - Friendly helpful staff offered a warm welcome. Restaurant very good. Very enjoyable stay.
- julian (8/5): -
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Steven (10/5): - Comfy hotel, great food, lovely staff Nothing
- Henry (10/5): -
- Lora (9/5): Really lovely hotel with great food. - The room was spotless, really lovely decor and comfy. All the staff were lovely, really welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal here and the food was outstanding as was the breakfast. We opted to pay the extra to have a cooked breakfast and it was worth it. With the hotel's location (proximity to the road) there was inevitable road noise but with the windows closed it was barely noticeable and certainly didn't keep us awake. A fan in the room meant that in warmer temps the windows can be kept closed.
- Ian (10/5): I Really enjoyed my stay at the Nags Head, the staff were friendly and really helpful. The food was great and had a good - A nice gastro pub with very old architecture and lots of character. I can’t say I disliked anything.
- Richard (9/5): -
- Nathalie (6/5): Clean and comfortable but staff less than helpful - Clean and well equipped rooms Attitude of staff when we politely asked if our room booking could be transferred to the next night as it was during storm Darrah in December and the wedding we were attending next door had to be postponed to the next day. We were told they needed 24 hours notice of cancellation. These were exceptional circumstances and half of Wales were without power and trees blocking roads etc. we only found out that morning that we a) couldn’t get to the venue and b) wedding postponed due to storm! They eventually agreed to move the booking - no compassion or empathy at all
- Gary (8/5): - Room, restaurant, bar Breakfast (continental only), location (noisy road)
- Heather (9/5): -
