Guest Reviews
- Riana Prins (8/5): Stunning view - Cozy fireplace and stunning views Nothing
- somyalo (1/5): -
- Charles (6/5): Lovely location but needs a good cleaning a serious overhaul. - The setting is superb. The view of the waves breaking on the rocks is magnificent!
The beds were comfortable. It was rather run-down and a little bit grubby. The whole place needed a thorough clean. For example the teapot was dirty - we couldn’t use it. The pots needed washing before we could use them. The cupboards smelled a bit mouldy - needed airing. The dining room chairs were uncomfortable and so were the outdoor chairs (only three cushions for the four chairs, so if there were six of you staying there you were in trouble!). Too many nick-nacks standing around, and religious texts everywhere.
Steps at odd places could cause serious tripping - need to mark them with bright, luminous strips to make them visible.
- Melissa (10/5): Magical, stunning, peaceful - Magical, exceptional place. Peaceful, gorgeous and the house was perfect for our little family of 5.
Loved everything about the place, the beach was hypnotic. Clean, well stocked, INCREDIBLE We had to leave so quickly :-( but will be back as soon as we can
- Lyn (6/5): It was ok. However by the ocean - The location Dirty
- Roxanne (8/5): -
- Keith (7/5): I loved the fact that the property is so close to the ocean. You step outside and enjoy - It's very close to the ocean and this creates such a vibe for people who want to experience peace The toilet system in the front bathroom must be sorted as we struggled to get the flush system to work even after talking to the host. While we used the front bathroom, it's more convenient using the one opposite the rooms.
- SHAUN (6/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Perfect! Wish we could stay longer. - This is probably the best ocean view property in Betty's Bay.
The home is spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable few days.
We've spent most of our time staring at the gorgeous views.
There are book cases full of interesting books and lots of comfortable spaces to sit and relax.
We will definitely return. There is a conventional stove, which I'm not used to.
It is just my preference (prefer gas).
- Shaun (8/5): - Good Location wasted 2 hour's the Friday trying to locate the key, ended up waiting a long time at the security reception office which was a long drive away
- Michelle (8/5): We had a peaceful and relaxing stay, hope to return. - Lovely location, private, quiet, enjoyed the sound of the ocean, all facilities catered for No problems or reasons to complain
- Janine (10/5): Vitamin sea family holiday - I loved that it was right by the sea. It was peaceful. The kitchen had everything you needed. The hist was very friendly
- Tefu (10/5): I loved my stay . The area is quiet and beautiful, a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature! The house is literally on - Great property, the location is to die for Furniture can be upgraded! Please add a TV

- Yusri (9/5): I highly recommend Heaven’s Gate to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in Betty’s Bay. I will def - The house is in an amazing spot with both ocean and mountain views. Just a few steps take you straight to the water, and the surrounding scenery makes it a perfect place to relax. I especially enjoyed making use of the indoor fireplace at night and the outdoor braai area during the day. Honestly, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like. The home was clean, well-equipped, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The host was there to welcome me on arrival and was incredibly warm and accommodating. The home was spotless, cozy, and had a lovely homely feeling, with all the amenities I needed—including WiFi.
- Du Preez (8/5): - View is exceptional, breaking of serve on rocks right in front of living room. Good beds and bedding. 3 different colors / styles of curtains in my room.
- Sibongile (8/5): A well situated house with a beautiful view - This place has the best view of the ocean. It is a lovely old home with some interesting old furniture. Quite a few areas that can't be accessed. This can be a bit uncomfortable as you wouldn't know what's behind those closed doors.
- Firaz (9/5): - Amazing views private and secluded. Really great for family or a weekend getaway.
- Mark (8/5): A place to unwind and take in the view all day long. - Location, location, location. Just magical having a front row seat to such a beautiful display of waves crashing over the rocks, endless rainbows over the water, nature on display in all its glory. The indoor fireplace was lovely for the rainy days, just remember to bring plenty of wood. The large windows allow you to take in the view all day long. Could do with a refresh as its a bit dated but that didn’t make our stay any less enjoyable.
- Nichaela (8/5): Beautiful house - The spot is absolutely beautiful. Stunning views and you can hear the sound of the ocean from every room. The house was very cute and had the things we needed to make the stay fun. The host was very friendly. It was a really good experience. It would've been great if the place had more board games. Something like uno, dominoes and monopoly to play since there's no tv.
- Lucheal (8/5): Very good -
- Jitesh (3/5): Poor - The location of the house is stunning, but the house itself is extremely dated and could use some redoing.
- Swanepoel (10/5): Couldn’t have asked for a better get away. Absolutely stunning views, wish to come again and stay for a week! Thank you -
- Gawie (9/5): Perfectly peaceful - Absolutely peaceful, if the location was closer to the sea it would be underwater. "Caretaker" friendly and eager to assist. Absolute minor issue, TV very old, so does not support USB or HDMI, so bring your own tablet/screen.
- Breadline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Du (7/5): It was a pleasant & relaxing stay. - The area that we stayed in is in the start of Betties it seemed to be much quieter and we loved it.
The view was amazing, Great size rooms. Loved the ease to get to the rocks in front of the house- Christiaan loved exploring the rocks first thing in the mornings.
Indoor fireplace was great and we spent many hours relaxing indoors watching the ocean with the fire going.
The toilet paper provided was just enough to last our 3 night stay so if you are going for a two night you should get through without having to buy more. The outside braai area has a deck above it so it does not offer any protection from the rain. It was raining the entire weekend but not cold at all, we would have loved to be able to still sit outside and braai. Perhaps something to consider in the future to add additional roofing.
Ensure to bring your own wood for the first night. A basket is provided but with 3 small stumps in.
The TV is a box TV and seemed not to operate correctly, we did bring our laptops with and were able to stream from them as the internet seemed to hold up well just not when everyone was on their phones.
- An-ria (8/5): Very good - The view is amazing!! Could do with a little touch up
- Ian (10/5): best ever!!! - My favourite spot at Betty's by far to stay, right on the highwater mark, soothing sound and smell of the see on your doorstop!! Talitha is amazing, super welcoming and commutation was top notch, please read her directions to get to the house, google and ways gets confused, super safe, great big kitchen, dining area and lounge, comfortable beds, perfect place if you want to get away from the city and people!!!! nothing
- Nicola (10/5): Good for the soul - Best views every loved the location.
- Johan (9/5): Superb -
- Kim (10/5): Best R&R with private ocean views & access - This accommodation was a blessing. Totally away from the bustling world. Did not switch the TV on, was bliss. Good WiFi to keep in touch though. The relentless waves crashing and never ending, could watch the ocean and climb the rocks and swim in the rock pools without any interference. Comfortable and perfect setting for a much needed rest and relaxation. All glory to The Most High. Excellent value for money. Thank you for accommodating me with the small things too. God bless you and this household. 🙏 The time to leave. Could move in there permanently.
- Fran (5/5): Passable - The location was good, so close to watch the waves
- Grove (10/5): Exceptional - Superb
- Paul (7/5): Rather outdated but nice views and good value for money - The location of Heaven's door is perfect, being located on the sea front and with sufficient privacy. All basic facilities were available. The manager, Thalita, was friendly and supportive. The interior and furniture is rather outdated (sixties/seventies) with too many memorabilia from the previous occupants and it is due for an overhaul. It felt like visiting you grand pa.The faded glory is however compensated by a very reasonable daily rent, which is why I rate it good value for money. We had several windy days while the terrace has no wind or rain protection which made it impossible to sit on the terrace.
- Madkour (9/5): Superb - Our family enjoyed the peace and tranquility. The views of the waves crashing on the rocks are mesmerizing. The privacy was a great bonus. The house has a lot of charm. The kids were a little put off that there was no flat screen TV to stream from.
