Guest Reviews
- Richard (8/5): Very nice comfortable and food excellent -
- sophie (8/5): -
- Marion (4/5): Enjoyed our stay although as a paying guest some hospitalty 'must haves' need improvement. - Most of the staff were welcoming and friendly. Bar and Food service was excellent but disappointing to see the night before's glasses and ashtrays still in the outside area every morning sometimes for most of the day and the area had not been cleaned or tidied. The guest experience was disappointing and to be fair, staff didn't appear to have much knowledge or experience in catering for guests needs. We had a few issues with the bathroom and replenishing of basics like tea and coffee etc and there was no hair dryer as advertised. 90% of the time the TV had no signal and there was no Internet connection as back up.
Such a shame as a bit more attention to detail for staying guests, and the place could be a little goldmine.
- Guest (8/5): - Value for money, spacious bedroom, excellent staff. The shower/toilet room needed a little doing up (bathroom rail and hooks), but it was really clean though.
- Bruce (10/5): Awesome - loved the hotel. - The hotel had a great environment. Good value for money. Meals were excellent. The only complaint we would have would be the length of time taken to provide the meals once the order was taken. It took three quarters of an hour to get our meal.

- Gordon (1/5): Awful am waiting compensation it was horrific - I submitted a compliant The list is huge
- Stilgoe (7/5): Good - The breakfast was very good and value for the money. The location was OK for what it for.The staff was very friendly. If I knew it done meals I would have booked. Would stop again.
- Henderson (5/5): Passable - The food is amazing, the chef here has some serious talent.
Great menu, lots to choose from. Found out 2 hours after checking in the shower and skin didn't work.
Spoke to staff and was offered a second room to shower in. This was great until the morning of check out when we found our shower things outside our room and the door closed to us.
We were told it was a new issue with the boiler and that they could get a plumber out but there would be no guarantee it would be fixed within our stay (1 night, hence we accepted the second room to shower in) but upon reading other reviews it seems it's abut of an ongoing problem.
We can't grumble too much as we were given a complimentary meal on the night of our stay for the inconvenience and as I have said the chef is fantastic!
- Lord (10/5): Exceptional - Cannot fault. Clean, comfy, friendly and top location. Having to leave was upsetting.... š„
- Dean (8/5): Great staff very friendly and professional. The food that they serve on the pub was good value for money and tasty.clean - It was a bit out of the way for myself but if you have a car that will take care of that problem
- Lucy (9/5): A warm and friendly welcome. - The room was very clean, comfortable and welcoming.
The food was very reasonably priced, cooked fresh when ordered and arrived at the table hot and nicely presented.
Staff are friendly and always willing to help. Made to feel very welcome on arrival. It may be helpful to have some instructions on how to work the TV. Great choice of channels but experienced a lot of 'buffering' and disruption when trying to watch it.
- Geri (10/5): Exceptional -

- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Perfect venue midway between Middlesbrough and Redcar which is where we were going to -
- Charlotte (3/5): Served a purpose - Good parking Bed sheet dirty with huge stain so bad we slept on top of the duvet. The bed seemed to have a hole in and on futher investigation we found up to 3 bed slats missing .
- Lawrence (5/5): Passable -
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (6/5): Friendly Staff - Friendly, helpful staff. Food good value. The whole place is looking rather scruffy and in need of thorough improvement and redecoration.
- Bianca (5/5): Decent - The pub downstairs was very nice, quiet location. Rather dirty than clean, conflicting check in time (I was messaged by someone in the morning when I would like to check in, but when I arrived at the property at around 14 PM I was told I canāt check in until 16 PM), smelled funny.
- Ry (10/5): Exceptional -

- Alan (1/5): Our experience at the Half Moon. - The Half Moon was clean. Booked 18th May until 21st May 25 we left after one night , the bed that looked grand was very uncomfortable and we experienced intermittent noise all night which was extractor fan noise and had virtually no sleep , we paid for a breakfast and we simply couldn't eat it , plenty there but awful and we waited over 35 minutes no other customers were there and we were polite to the young chap who had cooked the breakfast and not complained by then we were frazzled by lack of sleep and couldn't wait to leave. We complained to the management by message and asked for a refund or partial refund but it fell on deaf ears and my version of events was questioned , but why would I pay £157 for accommodation and £18 and leave after one night ? , I did mention in our message exchange that customer service wasn't their strong point and if you are reading this half moon management you have my permission to let people see our message exchange on booking.com.
- Michael (9/5): Incredible food, lovely staff, would recommend - Incredible food, lovely staff, exceptional value for money. Location was perfect for me as I could walk to where I was working, but that might not be so relevant to others. WiFi was a little patchy but useable. It is a pub, so there can be some noise into the night.
- Ry (10/5): Exceptional -

- Ian (9/5): Good value stay. Would stay again. - Staff 100% / Food In Pub Restaurant 100% + !! Room was good once heater was on for some time, however pub restaurant was cold all of the time.
- Caitlin (9/5): Superb - Lovely staff who couldn't do more for me. I had an amazing sleep. The food and drinks were good and the breakfast was great value for money! Will definitely be staying again. Thank you so much for a great stay āŗļø
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - It was perfect All was good
- Gary (10/5): Great budget room in good location - Location Nothing, everything was good
- Sian (10/5): Exceptional - Great stay, clean rooms with a comfy bed. Staff were lovely nothing was too much bother and a delicious breakfast at great prices. We will try book here again next year when we are back!
- Alan (5/5): It was good enough for our needs at this time - The breakfast was very good They had no gluten free bread although we had said I was a Ceoliac
- Adam (4/5): Good for one night. - Staff were incredibly lovely. From check-in to a drink at the bar when we came back. Nothing was too much trouble! Friendly, welcoming and just genuinely nice people.
Bed was comfortable.
Room was warm.
Bar area was lovely and inviting. Upon entering the room, we encountered a few issues. The toilet was dripping into a plastic box. There was no toilet roll (this was sorted promptly) . The previous guests toiletries were still in the shower, which indicates it wasn't clean. When arriving, we washed our hands, and the hot tap was loose. When turning on the shower in the afternoon, only a trickle of water came out, which was impossible to shower in, which proved a good thing as it didn't come with a hairdryer as advertised. There was also a half drank bottle of water, which made us unsure if the room was clean.
- Hawke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (8/5): A traditional British home from home experience. - Wonderful hosts, Super staff who couldnt be more welcoming and helpful, an axcellent breakfast option, just wish I had more time to finish the substantial meal and more time to enjoy it. A lovely place tucked just off the main drag contrasting immediately into a small village & traditional local Inn experience.
When further trips are in the offing to this region, this will be my goal destination.
- Claire (8/5): Comfortable with great staff - The room was a good size and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable. Nice soft big towels in the room. Water provided and tea making facilities were also good. The staff were incredible. The lady who showed me to my room went above and beyond. Turned the heater on to make it cosy and got me a plug for my phone charger as i forgot mine, which i really appreciated. Lovely stay, was slightly noisy during the night but would definitely return. Slept well.
- Sean (8/5): Would definitely stay again. - Fantastic view from the bedroom at the back and very friendly staff. Good evening food too - didnāt have breakfast.
- Bethan (10/5): Quiet B&B - Quiet little pub with a room upstairs perfect for what we needed, it was close to the social club we were attending for a 40th. Road wasn't busy outside and there was no noise at all! Very clean with water and cuppas in our room. I woke up so confused as to where I was because the bed was that comfy I thought I was at home! Car park at the back and I also hada breakfast the following morning which was absolutely lush! Can't complain!
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Massive breakfast but a bit greasy for some.
No hot water from the sink tap at first but came on eventually.
- Caroline (7/5): Good -
- Peter (7/5): Great value for money a lot of noise in the room. - Good location, good sized room and well presented. Hot tap on basin in the bathroom was loose needs some attention, lot of noise from the music downstairs in the room.
- Ross (8/5): Comfortable stay. Lovely staff. - The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was fab. Fresh cooked and tasty.
Facilities were basic, as expected, for the price, however very clean and comfortable. Second night a bit noisy...probably other guests and not really the fault of the accommodation. However, it did result in a broken night's sleep.
Also, there didn't appear to be a smoke alarm in the room.
Beverage tray was not refreshed for the second night.
- Ry (9/5): Superb -
- Ry (8/5): Very good -
- Katrina (3/5): Disappointing - Staff were friendly - location was ok Shower was either extremely hot or freezing cold no matter how much I tried to adjust the controls so couldnāt have a shower
Strands of Hair on bedside table and bed
Noisy guests coming up to the rooms after midnight - could hear them far to easily so couldnāt get to sleep
- Heather (3/5): disappointing - Bed appeared not to have been changed since the last guest
Walls were very thin so could hear the TV in the room next door (loud enough to identify the actors!)
- Ry (9/5): Superb -
- Samantha (8/5): Very good - Price and location for work. Room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Food in the pub was lovely Shower was dreadful. No water pressure and temperature fluctuated between scalding and cold
- William (5/5): Passable - The shower does not work if the kitchen staff is running water very disappointing,
- John (10/5): Lovely hotel and staff couldnāt fault anything - Top class English breakfast
Great location for me personally as I was visiting family on the outskirts of Middlesbrough
My room had everything I needed including a comfy bed and bonus it was pet friendly so I could take my Labrador with me
Would recommend and I will definitely be staying there again Nothing
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lyndon (6/5): Very loud - Really nice setting and bed is so comfy Walls are extremely thin and you can hear EVERYTHING
- Joanne (7/5): Bit Disappointed - The staff were very friendly.
The bed was lovely and clean and comfortable. For what it was, I thought it was a little overpriced.
They gave us a key to come in the side door so we didn't have to go through the bar, which was fine.
But when you opened the door, the smell of damp hit you straight away .
The entrance wasn't clean, and the stairscase was in desperate need of a paint .
There was no smoke alarm and all the electric items in the room weren't Pat Tested which was a little but of a worry
- Lauren (9/5): Great facilities, nice staff, quiet room. Great stay. -
- Robert (7/5): Good -
- Mike (7/5): Good - Landlady and Staff were very friendly
The rooms are Basic , but they do the best they can .
- Maxine (9/5): Great staff. Great location : ) - I have family who live in Marske and Guisborough, so it's an ideal location.
15 minutes each each way.
Nice pub and super friendly staff.
Pretty village location.

- John (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (7/5): Nice little place. - Staff were absolutely lovely, Isabel (sorry if that's wrong) was wonderful and helpful!
Few little hiccups dealt with fantastic! Shower was cold no matter what we done to it.
- Angela (10/5): Excellent staff nothing was to much for them.meals excellent Set in a beautiful village. Definitely stay again. - Excellent accommodation would definitely stay again. Clean and Tidy comfortable
- Adetayo (1/5): Bad - In case of emergency,no one to talk to either response to phone within the Room and reception.
- Michael (5/5): Cheap but flawed - Nice clean room , quiet No staff a.m . Scruffy private entrance.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Evelyn (7/5): The location was convenient for my purpose and my stay was comfortable. - I had breakfast and dinner and both were excellent. The portions were generous, the service was prompt and the food was well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful and made me feel welcome. My room was comfortable and mostly clean. The toilet in the private bathroom had dried faeces on the back of the pan. The hot tap was loose and the shelf above the hand basin could have been higher, it made using the basin a little awkward. There was nowhere in the shower to put anything but a bar of soap and the cubicle by necessity was very small. Having said this the room was adequate for a short stay and the staff more than made up for any shortcomings in the accommodation. I did find it noisy with people walking around above and beside me, music playing in the bar and voices carried throughout the building.
- John (7/5): Served our needs - Good location, comfortable bed, food excellent Bathroom could do with being refurbished, was clean though
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- David (8/5): Just an overnight stay, we would definitely stay at the Half Moon again - The team have only recently taken over the pub so some things are still being worked on but they are all so friendly, welcoming and working very hard for guests. The breakfast (only £9 for a full English) was excellent. Nothing
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Hannah (5/5): Passable - The property is situated in a small village with nice views into the countryside. The establishment is a new bnb service and unfortunately there are still some things needed to be completed in order for this to be a comfortable stay. Our toilet didnāt flush, which meant we couldnāt really use the bathroom facilities.
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Kayna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and tidy food was amazing staff was friendly
- Ian (10/5): Excellent - Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely clean room with a very comfy bed. Excellent food, and great value for money. Our only criticism is that the TV needs setting up properly.
- Allan (8/5): Very good -
- Liz (7/5): Good - The staff were outstanding. Curtis made the stay wonderful. He was wonderfully attentive, very professional and friendly TV needs fixing.
- Sharon (9/5): Will stay again - Lovely location, staff amazing Could not get tv to work š©
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Really comfortable bed, kind and helpful staff... and the food was phenomenal! Will definitely be coming back! I get up early anyway, but the curtains could do with having a liner in. Can't think of anything else!
