Guest Reviews
- YARROW (10/5): Weekend break, and a meal at the farmers dog! - A great place to stay.... Clean and comfortable
- Marie (8/5): - The main thing that stood out was the staff, so friendly. Restaurant very nice, relaxing bar. Faringdon bit run down.
- Schofield (8/5): A lovely place to stay in terms of service, food and location. - The Inn itself was lovely, with a beautiful dining area where we had a really tasty breakfast. All the staff were very friendly and offered great service. We had booked a twin room but when we saw it, it was absolutely tiny! It really wasn't worth the price paid so I enquired about getting moved. They were able to do this and we were moved to a 'family' room which was far more appropriate.
Whilst the room was very aesthetically pleasing, it wasn't hugely functional. There was no power socket in the bathroom so you had to use the hairdryer in the main room where there was a plug socket, but no mirror!
The towels (in both rooms) were very dingy - could do with an upgrade for sure.
- Robert (9/5): Excellent, friendly B&B -
- Alison (9/5): Fantastic night. Will definitely return. - Staff were excellent- friendly and polite and seemed to be actually enjoying their work! My dog was made a fuss of and there was a really good atmosphere. Room was spotless and comfortable - bed was amazing. Very happy with my stay!! There was no surface in the bathroom to put my toilet bad or toiletries
- Dianna (10/5): A most comfortable sleep in a historical inn. - I liked that the bus from Oxford dropped me at the door. The staff were all very helpful and accommodating. The history of the building was interesting and my room (solo traveler) was perfect for what I needed. I slept like an actual log! Very comfy mattress. The restaurant was beautiful. They did have a live cover band in the pub from about 10 until about 11, and though I didn't go down to see, it was not unpleasant music to hear from my room. I would stay again. I was a little disappointed in the food. I expect some challenges as I am gluten free, but this toast/roll was rock hard. And it also took a while for my food to arrive after I ordered.
- John (9/5): -
- Geoff (9/5): - Breakfast was very good.
Lovely presentation Not having to pay for an extra cup of coffee at breakfast time
- Robinson (10/5): -
- Jeff (8/5): -
- Bianca (8/5): - Food was excellent, as were the staff. Really lovely little place to stay, with clean rooms. It was quite noisy when we were trying to sleep. I expected it somewhat as we were in a pub, but after close, some people were sitting in the courtyard right underneath our room talking for around an hour really loudly. Saying that, staff did try to ask the patrons to keep it down.
- philip (9/5): We would revisit and stay if in the area - The very friendly atmosphere staff and locals in the evening bar Nothing really based on the fact that you are staying in old coach house
- ALAN (8/5): -
- Ian (8/5): - Q The bed was comfortable.
surprised there was not even one chair in the room!
- John (10/5): -
- Nic (7/5): Good place and nice pub, but think customer service could be improved in certain areas - Old rustic pub quarters, pleasant atmosphere and nice pub / bar snacks. Hardly any hot water both days from our shower which was a bit uncomfortable as it was cold during those two days being December. We had notified staff on both days . The Breakfast was not good on the 2nd day and we felt that that we should have been offered an alternative after we had stated the problem.
- Clifford (7/5): Excellent - Size of rooms USB charging points in rooms
- Steve (10/5): -
- Paul (5/5): - Breakfast was great. Very good full english and eggs benedict. Good portion size and nicely prepared Room was bit small, basic and noisy
- Ruth (8/5): -
- Michelle (7/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): -
- William (8/5): -
- Nette (9/5): Great stay at this hotel from start to finish - We had a great stay at this hotel from start to finish. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and made sure everything was as it should be throughout the visit. Rooms were spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped.
Everything was clean, well-maintained, and easy to access. Breakfast was fresh and offered plenty of choice.
The location was ideal, making it easy to explore the area while still feeling peaceful and relaxing when back at the hotel.
We would happily stay again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for comfort, great service, and excellent value.
- Ian (9/5): Excellent as always! - Excellent as always…
1st time I had taken dinner there, & it was incredible
Entertaining a business partner and everyone’s meal was exceptional
- Eve (10/5): -
- Robbie (5/5): - Walls thin, very noisy snorer next door
- Deborah (8/5): Lovely inn, would stay again - Comfortable inn with a nice, big room and comfortable bed. Staff friendly and food pretty good quality and tasty. Our shower could have functioned better and more space to put our things in the bathroom would have been good.
- Barley (8/5): We would happily stay here again and explore the area. - Friendly and helpful staff. Large well-appointed room with comfortable bed. Bathroom with good power shower. Delicious evening meal and breakfast. More hooks and shelves in the bathroom would have been helpful.
- Helen (10/5): Lovely pub in a great location with very friendly staff. - Old English charm!
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- Robert (8/5): An interesting old inn, which made a good place to stop touring round the area. -
- Annette (10/5): A wonderful stay and an opportunity not to be missed. - What an absolute privilege to stay in this magnificent old medieval heritage listed inn,so much history and still so authentic .
The room was spotlessly clean and gorgeous ,looking out into the courtyard and I had the best sleep in the most comfortable bed ever.
The staff were so lovely and told us some great stories about the hotel and the food was first class .
It is located right in the middle of the village with lovely walks close by .
- patrick (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Artemi (9/5): - Muy bien ubicado y el personal muy atento.
- Marion (10/5): We really recommend this hotel - We made the decision to stay here simply because it was on our route and it was the best decision we made on our whole road trip ( of 2 weeks ). The property is bursting with character, the food is amazing and the staff were so helpful and friendly; a real highlight of our trip. We loved everything!

- LucyEJ (10/5): Great hotel, exceptional food - We stayed in the Court Room, which was huge! Excellent value for money. Comfy sofas and bed, lovely big bath and a good shower. We ate there as well, and the food and service were exceptional. The two waiters were attentive and friendly, and the chef has to be commended for the standard of the food - we thought the curried/British fusion lamb dish was the dish of the day! Nothing!
- Leontine (8/5): -
- paul (1/5): Passable - The room was great The owner was rude and arrogant and the food was poor and overpriced
- Carolann (10/5): -
- Sylvain (8/5): - La chambre qui donne sur la cour intérieure L'accueil qui pourrait être largement mieux
- Kirsty (10/5): - The upgrade was fantastic, I was prepping for an interview and the added luxury was very well received, I loved the stay, the staff, the breakfast too was amazing. Thank you Was all wonderfully ❤️
- Chris (8/5): Very good - Nice staff / pleasant Breakfast room.
- Mark (2/5): If it was a tenth of the price you would be happy - overpriced! - Bed was comfy and food was nice. Rooms are cramped, smell of the bbq they have under the window, no air conditioning so you either sweat or listen to the people downstairs until late at night; Having an early night is impossible due to the noise! WiFi is rubbish. If you have mobility you will struggle due to the age of the building making all the stairs and floors are uneven. I also cracked my head on a low beam!
- Ian (10/5): A hidden gem.. I will certainly return - Since I didn't want to stay at a soul-less corporate hotel, a good friend who lives nearby said to try the Crown, though he knew very little about it, and had never even entered until he met me for lunch.
I had lunch & breakfast. Both meals were very high quality (portions - generous & hot!).
I regret having gone into Oxford for dinner. I should have stayed at the hotel. Next time..
Safe off-road parking
Staff are wonderful. Thanks to Polly, Daisy & Alina for making me feel welcome & at home.
Decor is classy / rustic but understated - very nice!
I understand that the building, under relatively new ownership, has been completely renovated during the past 3 years.
Spotlessly clean.
I was concerned that my room overlooking the courtyard bar tables might be noisy, but a few moments after I got to my room, the noise & chatter stopped.
It is a long time since I was shown to my room in the UK, as opposed to "here's your key, mate. Up the stairs on the right..." Little gestures like that go a long way, and won't be forgotten
I have an allergy to feathers, so Polly checked that my request had been fulfilled - it had..
I will certainly stay again for both business & pleasure
Thank you
Warm regards
ian
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- George (4/5): Disappointing -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Sean (9/5): Superb -
- Sean (9/5): Superb -
- Nina (5/5): Passable - Noisy bathroom fans, very thin walls.
Woken up by next door's bathroom fan (goes on automatically when light is on) that was rattling - and I am not a light sleeper:(.
Person underneath or next door -I must stress this- was very considerate and having a phone conversation at 10:30 pm. But it was clear form.his tone that he was trying to be very quiet - I assume he could hear other rooms and understood everyone could hear him.
I stayed on a very low season night
Despite that, could you imagine trying to sleep here on a busy day? Not for us.
Shame, lovely traditional Inn, but needs to invest in noise insulation 🥹 Very noisy, could not stay here again if I needed a good night sleep.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): A little difficult to get into the car park as there were bins and beer barrels along the sides as I - The staff were very good and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic but possibly a little too much as I’m getting older. I can’t quite eat as much but I would love to have the full breakfast but they look too much for me. Food excellent The shower room door in room 12 will not close properly appears to be possibly a problem with the top hinge not sure not a shower expert towels beautifully clean bedding beautifully clean lovely new carpet freshly decorated couldn’t ask for more first class.
- Katie (8/5): Quirky but comfortable and good value. - Good location for what I wanted. Room was comfortable and well-equipped. The bed was comfortable and made up each day, and tea and coffee etc all replenished without having to ask. Characterful building. Good value for money in the area. I arrived during a beer festival - they had warned me by email in advance, but there was loud rock music right below my bedroom window till 10pm and people drinking in the courtyard, again right outside the window, till midnight. It didn't affect me too much as I was out most of the day and evening. Obviously this would not be happening most weekends, but if it does, it's REALLY loud inside as there is no double glazing. The "characterful" old building meant quite a bit of noise inside too, from the creaky floorboards etc, which I particularly noticed with a corridor running along two sides of my room. Bring your earplugs, and you should be OK!
- David (5/5): Unmemorable - Food not served in the evening. Booking through Booking.com was a fiasco- external noise from staff in the morning - annoying See above
- Michael (3/5): Expensive for a poor night’s sleep but dinner was very good - Excellent food and staff We requested a quiet room but all bedrooms have only single glazing and overlook the courtyard where noisy drinkers continued until 2:30am so sleep was impossible until then.
Would not stay again or recommend to others.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Dave (9/5): Great hotel for Cotswold exploring. - Room was lovely, shower was powerfl, although it needs a slight repair to the shower head. Breakfast was very good. Location is great, very central. We stayed on Saturday night, and after visting all of the other pubs in Faringdon we came back to the Inn and enjoyed some excellent live music. The bar was busy with a great atmosphere.
A great place to stay and explore the Cotswolds. Slight damage to shower head in room.
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (8/5): Very good - Lovely room clean and comfortable There was no information ie meal times were things were
- Susan (8/5): An enjoyable stay - Lovely surroundings & a beautiful old building
The bed was the most comfortable I think I’ve ever slept in The shower in Room 3 needs fixing to the wall properly
- Self (6/5): Would stay again probably not on a Monday - Room comfortable, staff lovely and helpful But disappointed food wasn't available on the Monday evening as was looking forward to eating at the venue
- Michelle (6/5): Fine for what we needed - We were visiting family for the night and the location made it quite easy. The rooms are run down and trying to sleep above a loud pub wasn't easy. Staff were very nice and parking is available.
- Nicola (10/5): Happy guests - Everything great All good
- David (4/5): Generally OK with low points. Not a place I would stay again - First breakfast was full English, very nice. Pleasant quirky building. Nice clean market town Second breakfast avacado and eggs, cold. Young lady who checked me out ignorant and unfriendly. Bedside light not working.
- Caroline (8/5): Good value, great breakfast. - Good atmosphere. Great breakfast. Parking onsite.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (9/5): Nice traditional hotel in town centre - Nice size
- Sarah (7/5): A nice nights stay in the centre of Faringdon - Room although small was all we needed for one night. It was clean and water and coffee provided free of charge. Bathroom was average but adequate for the night. Staff helpful and enjoyed the location and character. Would have liked warning of live music on the Saturday night. In the end that and the courtyard noise didn’t keep us awake too long.
Breakfast was good but the “one cup of tea or coffee included” seemed unnecessary!
- Stockton (9/5): Superb - Enjoyed the comfort and friendliness of the staff both when I checked in and the following morning As all old places other people walking around makes noice, but not a complaint
- Ann (8/5): Lovely, characterful hotel, friendly and helpful staff - This was our second visit to The Old Crown Coaching Inn. The first was on our wedding night in January 1972!
53 years later it still looks much the same from the outside, although the interior has been updated, and has the usual facilities installed that we've come to expect.
The bar and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful.
A pleasant, characterful place to stay.
There were only a couple of minor points which I'm sure would have been dealt with had we been staying for more than one night. Bed wasn't very comfortable and duvet very thin, so not warm, (no spare blankets).
No instructions for coffee maker.
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - Location No Wi-Fi code or password information in the room or information about breakfast times or check out
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suzanne (9/5): Most enjoyable - Room well appointed, good dining and great pub. Staff most accommodating
- Cameron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (8/5): Pleasant weekend suited our needs - Location excellent suited our needs
Staff friendly and helpful
Breakfast good
Car park on site
Good atmosphere in pub Bathroom needed a shelf a light over mirror and more hooks for used towels
Only one hand towel provided
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional - We booked for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day - we were fortunate to be upgraded to the Coach Inn room which was absolutely amazing - the New Year’s Eve tasting menu was second to none compliments to the chef and all the staff who made our getaway just perfect
- Karl (10/5): Perfect and friendly people - Everything Nothing
- Jane (8/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful room lovely view Outside stair's for access
- Shaun (10/5): Wonderful stay in a great market town - Excellent service Nothing.
- Susan (5/5): Passable - Location Bfast thought was included then charged 40 pound not worth it
- Richards (9/5): Superb -
- Jennison (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the authenticity of the Guesthouse, pub, and village. The staff was excellent and incredibly accommodating. Great food and wine, cozy atmosphere. They were very accommodating of our vegan and gluten free diets, which was a pleasant surprise.
- Joanne (5/5): Passable - Food ok Uneven floors. Nearly fell a couple of times. Very basic room . Not worth the money. Wooden bed was creaking all night.
- Barry (3/5): Naff - Noisy bedroom above till3 am think it was staff bedrooms
- Ewen (10/5): I had varying set ups for accommodation for my European adventure, the Old Crown Coaching Inn SUPERB - superb
- Karen (10/5): Enjoyable the staff were friendly and helpful nice location I would stay there again - Clean warm lovely olde Wolde There’s nothing I didn’t like
- Burnham (8/5): Very good -
- Tracey (7/5): Ideal location, comfortable stay. - Parking, great coffee facilities in the room, lovely restaurant and breakfast was great Bathrooms looked tired no hand soap.
- Chris (8/5): Nice cosy hotel in centre - In centre of Farringdon , lovely old building. , cosy We booked a late check out. 12 but at 11.00 am they want us to move room , we got ready quick and left in 15 mins ,, didn’t spoil stay but appeared a bit strange. Would’ve been more ashore than it’s worth for an hour. doing.
- Colin (8/5): Very good -
- Annie (5/5): Second time we’ve stayed but we won’t be returning. - Location
Character
Breakfast With exception of restaurant, staff not especially welcoming or friendly. On arrival, made to feel it was inconvenient and, by the way, ‘there’s no hand towels in your room - we’ve run out’.
Bathroom very basic but at least clean.
- Adam (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend it to anyone - It was lovely and we were upgraded to the best room for free We loved everything
- James (10/5): Would stay again! - Spacious and Clean Food was a bit too pricey for what it was.
But I did think the food was on point and was delicious.
